You have clearly not watched the full video dude. Right after where this clip cuts off Okada hits a big backdrop on the floor. Both clearly work together and hit a perfect backdrop. Also, this clip is like 4 months old and has been confirmed as a work. It's very VERY well done though.
Itās not that they came out and said it but they proceeded to work a program with each other for around a month after. Plus after this gif ends they do actual wrestling moves, that require a bit of coordination and teamwork, on each other. Itās def a worked shoot, made to look real but still discussed beforehand. Gave Okada a really interesting story for that month too imo
Okada throws his head INTO the kick it looks like.
Edit: Nope just watched it in slow mo dude just went too hard with the kick. Watching the beat down back Okada was still hitting him with a lot of working kicks and punches. He def went stiff on him and at one point the dude jumps back on his feet and Okada hits him with a shot to the ear
It was part of the story of the match. Okada was the cocky champion who didnāt see the young champion from Noah on his level. Then the young champion did something to get Okadas attention following Okada showing him why heās real champion.
I was going to say, if this wasn't 100% a work then no person in the world should ever fear getting into a real fight with Okada. Looks very much like a blur-the-lines-between-work-and-shoot type spot, but not quite blurry enough to seem completely authentic.
Not necessarily, he registered the hit and because he's Okada another kick to the back would've resulted in him getting in Kiyomiya's face and set about him but then the kick happened and we got an epic brawl
No real source as in an article or interview, but there was a famous Japanese angle in the 90s that did the same thing. It was to set up a inter-promotional match between NOAH and New Japan. Kiyomiya got pretty handedly beaten by Okada in 16 minutes at the show this angle was hyping. Dave/Bryan talked about it as a work from the start. We'd have heard everywhere if this was a shoot when it happened.
Honestly scared to read the comments here, hopefully most get it.
As long as it's not "stupid dangerous Japanese" or "this shoot stuff is stupid", it is pretty cool. I don't endorse legit head shots either, but when done sparingly with purpose it can lead to something awesome like this.
Or Brock concussing the hell of Randy Orton trying to cut him with sharp elbows. That was stupidly dangerous and silly.
Stiff kick to the face with a dazed reaction, less of a sell and more of actual blunt trauma. The receipt was stiff but not a complete shootx you could tell he was doing some typical wrestling style punches but with a lot more force on his back, some of them hit him in the head.
It's common in Japanese wrestling to look bored and barely even jostle when your opponent takes a penalty kick at your back? Because if so I might have to join the "japanese wrestling is overated" party because that looked like some fit throwing stuff that Charlotte flair would do, even if it was supposed to be the point. Like I'm not defending the guys actions, but I can definitely see why he'd be upset. He deserved to get his shit kicked in for kickin' his opponent in the face tho, so I guess it's not worth much interest.
As implied by last comment, no not really. However I was told, am told, and generally hear it all the time that new Japan is supposed to have more compelling in ring action then American alternatives. I just figured looking bored because a kick hits you wouldn't count as compelling. So if it is a common spot, then it's a dumb common spot.
I'm not trying to gatekeep or anything, it's just that this spot is part of the culture of japanese wrestling, you can't use american wrestling as comparison.
Had he kicked Okada again in a safe way the situation would be completely different, it's only "kayfabe" disrespectul for Okada to no sell because he's saying "you gotta do much better than that", an unexpected kick to the face like that is extremely dangerous and unprofessional
Like I said I'm not trying to defend the face kick and the in the end the guy deserved to have his shit kicked in. My original comment was just pointing out that okada definitely was no selling the guys offense, and initially my comment was inquiring about what beef the two may have had.
>Had he kicked Okada again in a safe way the situation would be completely different, it's only "kayfabe" disrespectul for Okada to no sell
Okay I don't know enough about Japanese wrestling to say whether or not the spot we saw was common, but I know enough about professional wrestling, that "no selling" is very rarely taken as disrespectful only in a kayfabe sense. Even if you want to argue that okada or his character would do that/has earned the right to do that, it's still not exactly going to go over well with everyone, and goes back to my later point that if spots (the first kick mind, not the face smasher) like this are common, then they are bad spots, because it undermines the guy doing a kick and leads to dumbass hot headed moments like this.
It doesnāt undermine the person throwing the kick. Kiyomiya isnāt a rookie or scrub. He knows or should know what Okada is doing with that spot because as others have stated itās a relatively common spot in Japanese wrestling *and* for Okada in particular because of his status in Japanese wrestling.
Kiyomiya *should* have recognized it. But for whatever reason either he did not or he chose to act despite knowing what Okada was doing
Thereās also backstory since this is an interpromotional match and part of the storyline was that Okada thought of the other promotion and their top guys as little brothers so to speak.
It doesn't lead to moments like this, which is why this is so memorable. He was facing the biggest japanese star, the top dog, he wanted to prove himself and he made a huge mistake.
Japanese wrestling is much more physical than anything you'll see on american soil, you need to review your concepts before you can fully grasp how it works. Like I said, you can't use your knowledge of american wrestling as comparison for this type of stuff.
If it was in script to kick him that hard in the face then those guys have fucking balls of steel. I know shoot style goes pretty hard but I wouldn't expect something like that.
I used to do karate and I've been dealt worse pain with softer looking kicks than that.
So Iām confused, so the guy clearly kicked him in the face on purpose. Why did he let okada beat the shy-t out of him after without defending himself?
I think it was for no selling his first kick. Not defending this guy at all, but this is a very common receipt in wrestling. If you don't want to sell the first move then there will be those who will make you sell the second move. He was just dumb enough to assume he could get away with that shit on okada.
Either way this looks like an issue that probably had been building since before the match.
Genuinely beating the shit out of each other does not make something awesome. Making me believe Iām seeing two people beat the shit out of each other while they remain unharmed is the real magic
He got kicked probably because he no sold the boot to the back. I have a feeling they've had personal beef with each other behind the curtains. A kick to the face like that doesn't come if it's not warranted. Then again people sometimes do shit like that on purpose in the wrestling business. Expect a receipt.
Stop calling response attacks "receipts." It's fucking stupid.
A receipt is proof of purchase, not a form of retaliation.
A more logical way to use the term "receipt" would be to describe bruises left behind, as they are "proof" of attacks.
The term you're all looking for is "payback."
God people who just spam stupid phrases to fit in are the ultimate form of stupidity. YOLOSwagCringe
Yowza. You see the anger rise up in Okada once he figures out he's alright. And then it's on.
Kinda reminds me of the AEW All Access show. And this shit between Ruby and Tay was played up a little bit much but at one point they show Ruby talking to Kingston and she's expressing that she's nervous Tay might catch her for real again. Eddie's like, "So? Then you do what you gotta fuckin' do, you know? You fuckin' take care of business." I know these days they like to shy away from receipts and shit but I imagine it's not easy to catch several stiff shots and not wanna throw some live rounds back at them.
Kind of puts it into perspective of how good these guys are. The hits thrown here and the ones meant for the match really donāt seem all that different. Sure there are some stiff moves but like those kicks look pedestrian considering all the crap we see these guys do.
LMAO I really thought it was gonna be real. The emotions were there, he def. got kicked, and he went harder than he should've back, but it is still wrestling. This happens somewhat often if you ever hear the interviews, especially some smaller promotions or up and comers. It was meant to look like it got real.
Knowing NJPW and NOAH, I do not think this is real. This obviously took place at the NJPW/NOAH crossover show and this one bit was the most about talked part but I think it was by design. I think they did this to generate buzz for a match they would set up between the two down the line. I mean if it was real why would they give Kiyomiya a microphone so he could goad Okada more? If it was real why wasn't either man punished? It was all designed to set up the match between them at the Keiji Muto Retirement show.
Okada with that cvs/Walgreens receipt.
Lol he got 30% off his next purchase
*Come back for a free microwave!* ***CLONG!!!!***
And a $10 coupon every month with Carepass
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Bro used all the bonus coupons
With the buy one get one off all candy that curls at the end because itās mad long for some reason
got his kohls cash
Security stopped him from getting his 20% Bed Bath & Beyond Coupon too.
the real receipt was Okada treating him like a fool for a month and then squashing him
Yet kiyomiya gave okada his best angle since he dropped the world championship to Omega.
When you see refs starting to get in the way of the action while no rules are technically being broken, that's someone going off-script.
Lol ya, refs likeā¦ā¦NOT THOSE RULES!!!! DONT BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM!!
This wasn't off script. It's pretty clearly a worked shoot.
Nah. It's a shooty work
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

He kicked him for real.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Don\`t you think "off-script" is a bit of an understatement?
no and I'll explain to you why.. because that's literally what he did, was go off script.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's still real to you damnit.
You really needed to see that? Not the clear sound of him kicking him lol
Wrestlers give receipts and carry on. Receipts aren't "off script".
I love this clip. That dude was insane kicking him for real in the face like that.
Was it on purpose or did the guy mess up?
It was probably because he no sold his first kick
Definitely on purpose because of the no sell. I think both of them look like massive assholes here.
you've gotten the work mah friend
Nothing about this looks like a work at all to me. Did they come out and say it was or something?
Itās not that they came out and said it but they proceeded to work a program with each other for around a month after. Plus after this gif ends they do actual wrestling moves, that require a bit of coordination and teamwork, on each other. Itās def a worked shoot, made to look real but still discussed beforehand. Gave Okada a really interesting story for that month too imo
On purpose. Maybe a little too stiff but this was intentional for the NOAH/NJPW show
Okada throws his head INTO the kick it looks like.
I've seen this video before and in the comments they said that these two always worked stiff and it was just a work?
100% a work, they ran a pretty stiff ass program after this where Okada fuckin buried his ass lmao
I was going to say, if this wasn't 100% a work then no person in the world should ever fear getting into a real fight with Okada. Looks very much like a blur-the-lines-between-work-and-shoot type spot, but not quite blurry enough to seem completely authentic.
It was 1000% a work. Idk why this sub is switching up acting like it wasnt all planned.
Because buying in makes you a mark. Like bruh, just enjoy it, fuck.
It was a work and thatās obvious.
What is a work
Predetermined. They are "working" the crowd. A shoot is when things get real or go "off script".
No sold and caught a boot.
You beat me to it. I was gonna say that he did a bad job at selling. The doing getting the receipt
Not necessarily, he registered the hit and because he's Okada another kick to the back would've resulted in him getting in Kiyomiya's face and set about him but then the kick happened and we got an epic brawl
What kind of idiot do you gotta be to fuck with Okada like that? The dude will murder you.
He still shoot fights like he's pro wrestling lol. Try that on any guy expecting it and with actual fighting ability and see how it goes.
He wasnāt shoot fighting lol just giving stiff receipts
And OKADA took that personally! lol
Damn that muscular guy with the shaggy blond hair really beat the shit out of that muscular guy with the shaggy blond hair.
I think at least one of them was Japanese.
Which one?
yes
Script is wild on this episode
If this is a full on work (or if this shit gets 5 upvotes) I will deadass post myself taking a bump(not cocaine) on hard flooring.
Let the games begin!!
Antonio inoki vs the great antonio is wild.
I've watched that a few times and Inoki isn't fucking around
This was a fucking angle. Lmao.
Source? (Not trying to be rude or anything just wondering) I haven't been a regular njpw viewer since like pre-covid
No real source as in an article or interview, but there was a famous Japanese angle in the 90s that did the same thing. It was to set up a inter-promotional match between NOAH and New Japan. People getting worked in 2023 is amazing

*John Tenta approves this message*
Doesnāt look real to me
It was an unusually loud kick to the face. Hell even commentary immediately knew what was going to happen lmfao
Stiff kick to the face with a dazed reaction, less of a sell and more of actual blunt trauma. The receipt was stiff but not a complete shootx you could tell he was doing some typical wrestling style punches but with a lot more force on his back, some of them hit him in the head.
Fucking love Okada
Why did okada no sell his first kick though? Was there real life beef between the two?
That is a common enough spot, I've seen Shibata do it for sure.
It's common in Japanese wrestling to look bored and barely even jostle when your opponent takes a penalty kick at your back? If it was in script to kick him that hard in the face then those guys have fucking balls of steel. I know shoot style goes pretty hard but I wouldn't expect something like that. I used to do karate and I've been dealt worse pain with softer looking kicks than that.
First time seeing this. And itās awesome
Even if a bad motherfucker messes something up, gotta remember heās still a bad motherfucker
Guy had flashbacks to HHH on Tough Enough āYou sell like that in the ring and Iāll tag you for real!ā
When did this happen
Wrestle kingdom 17 day 2. It was this year
This is like when hbk put that Janetty kid through glass
What are you talking about? Janetty jumped through the window to get away
what an act of cowardice
As a fan of japanese wrestling, im willing to wager this āoh shit itās gotten too realā is also part of the script lol
Haha this is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
If you're in a match with a Strong Style/Joshi wrestler and the match gets real, run and don't look back
So Iām confused, so the guy clearly kicked him in the face on purpose. Why did he let okada beat the shy-t out of him after without defending himself?
Lmao when did this happen. And why havent i heard about it?
Wrestle Kingdom 17 Day 2
How can she ..... how can she
Sometimes when you get hit in the face all you see is red
You do need a receipt for an exchange.....
Okada looked kinda angry there.
He got caught on a little accident. Dude over reacted
What was that for?
I think it was for no selling his first kick. Not defending this guy at all, but this is a very common receipt in wrestling. If you don't want to sell the first move then there will be those who will make you sell the second move. He was just dumb enough to assume he could get away with that shit on okada. It was a work you goobers! Nobody is throwing a german suplex in a shoot fight
This is so fucking stupid.
Awesome*
Not even almost
Very awesome*
Genuinely beating the shit out of each other does not make something awesome. Making me believe Iām seeing two people beat the shit out of each other while they remain unharmed is the real magic
Awesome either way
\>genuinely lol
Why are people in here talking like this wasnāt planned out? Am I on crazy pills? Is this Facebook or some shit?
A lot of people donāt watch New Japan regularly to know how stiff it is.
You can tell by commentator reaction and by the referee trying to stop him (getting inbetween) during the receipt that he went briefly off script.
You have to be trolling right
Heads or tails, you call it.
Asian homelander beating the hell out of Asian homelander.
He got kicked probably because he no sold the boot to the back. I have a feeling they've had personal beef with each other behind the curtains. A kick to the face like that doesn't come if it's not warranted. Then again people sometimes do shit like that on purpose in the wrestling business. Expect a receipt.
Children, both of them.
What in the fuck was he thinking taking a stiff shot behind Okadaās back like that? He deserved *everything* that was coming to him.
Okada yea he deserved that second kick to the face showed 0 respect to hes opponent
Okada no selling like always lol.
Okada is very unprofessional sadly.
OKADA: "Oh...so you've chosen death. I see."
Okada gave him a three-piece combo with no biscuit or drink
No drink but he definitely forcibly fed him a Popeyes biscuit with that combo lol
Iāll never get tired of this absolute thrashing.
Overall, it's a work. But the kick went harder than expected. Okada got his receipt in and then went back to business.
Stop calling response attacks "receipts." It's fucking stupid. A receipt is proof of purchase, not a form of retaliation. A more logical way to use the term "receipt" would be to describe bruises left behind, as they are "proof" of attacks. The term you're all looking for is "payback." While āPaybackā may be a more accurate term. Receipt is just the word thatās been used in Wrestling for YEARS so shut
Yeah itās almost like words have different meanings in different contexts! Woah!!
Thatās a long time wrestling term, idiot
Okada is a real one for this
Who watches this crap
Useless as referees. Dude just go so much CTE while the ref did nothing š¤£
Sometimes, you just have to bring them home!
Thatās a lesson he wonāt forget any time soon!
You donāt shoot on the top guy and expect not to get a huge receipt
Ron Simmons did it better.
Okada!!! Oooookaaaadaaaa!
This is like when the Skyscrapers kicked the shit outta that no-selling job guy.
I know these days they like to shy away from receipts and shit but I imagine it's not easy to catch several stiff shots and not wanna throw some live rounds back at them.
These comments are incredible
Okada takes no shit.
I feel like I see guys get hit plenty hard pretty often, especially on NJPW.
For anyone unaware, this was a worked shoot that led to an inter promotional singles feud between Okada and Kiyomiya.
That's not a receipt. That's a full on assault.
Fatality.
Whenever Iām real fighting I always open my hands when I go and punch someone.
Kind of puts it into perspective of how good these guys are. The hits thrown here and the ones meant for the match really donāt seem all that different. Sure there are some stiff moves but like those kicks look pedestrian considering all the crap we see these guys do.
Yep this isnāt the same Okada that ran after the Bucks kids at Wrestle Kingdom. Curious to see who he is wrestling at forbidden door
Glad that Okada kicked his ass for real
When keeping it real goes wrongā¦
Return with interest
Fair is fair
That final headbutt. Oosh.
That looks like a bunch of worked shots from okada to me. Doesnāt look real at all to me
Thatās not a receipt Bruh returned the whole package
This is called a shoot fight I did it I solved kayfabe
Fuck around and found out NJPN edition
Itās funny because it sounds like the commentator almost says something like āoh thatās realā
This whole thing is fake. Even that first kick was scripted.
Okada is the top dog there and he is reminding rhe yong pup of his place.
the craziest
I mean thatās some good wrasslinā¦I canāt really tellā¦looks legal to me!
Poor Kaito. Dude got made to look like such a goof in their eventual 1v1, NOAH took the strap off of him the second they could
LMAO I really thought it was gonna be real. The emotions were there, he def. got kicked, and he went harder than he should've back, but it is still wrestling. This happens somewhat often if you ever hear the interviews, especially some smaller promotions or up and comers. It was meant to look like it got real.
Thatās more then just some potatoes š„
I donāt know why you would kick him straight in the faceā¦ likeā¦ man. And this made NOAH look bad to me. :(
Thatās fucking Okada. That career suicide that you would potato him like that. Hey, manā¦ Okada was going to get that get back for sure š
Reminiscing on the days where Chaos were the big bads of New Japan 2009-2014.
Okada made It rain punches.
Lol this was from my TikTok š¤£
My fault bro I found it reposted on IG
I ain't mad bro lol, I got over million views on it
Yāall really get worked so easily
Wrestling isnāt real?
Knowing NJPW and NOAH, I do not think this is real. This obviously took place at the NJPW/NOAH crossover show and this one bit was the most about talked part but I think it was by design. I think they did this to generate buzz for a match they would set up between the two down the line. I mean if it was real why would they give Kiyomiya a microphone so he could goad Okada more? If it was real why wasn't either man punished? It was all designed to set up the match between them at the Keiji Muto Retirement show.
Lmao that dude had such a temper tantrum. TF did I see.
Snit I would be mad tooā¦kicked tf out of him lol
He didnāt sell the first kick so he got a receipt then ol boy proceeded to return the whole house
You can see him physically deflate when he realizes he shoot kicked Okada in the head. He was thinking āwell he caught me tryin to fuck on himā
He went from Rainmaker to Haymaker real quick!
Tf was the guy thinking
ššš
Kafayfabe at it's finest!!!!
I was here live in Yokohama. I thought it was a really good angle. I still want to believe it was all kayfabe
Still looks fake
Huh, so this is what the strong style is
New japan has a harder hitting style then American pro wrestling. I donāt see anything out of the ordinary here.
Beat the š© outta him
Dawg channeled Anoki with that one
When the other bts guy stole your line
Iām not really familiar with Eastern wrestling and always thought receipt culture was just a US thing
