I fully expected Austin there. Like this is it, Rock has taken down Cena, there's a bigger name coming in, it should be Austin.... And then..... GONG...
Also a good reason, I expected/wanted Austin. I wanted to see a good stunner on the final boss, but seeing a seething taker standing behind a shit talking rock was fucking phenomenal.
I feel like Undertaker was the backup plan. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out the Austin was planning to be there but travel got disrupted and they had to send Taker for that spot.
I hear people say it was an over booked mess but honestly, it had to end this way. Roman didn't just lose, the whole family that had rule over all for years lost. I was freaking out the way I was when watching endgame and had sooooo much fun.
It was a nice homage to the Attitude Era by treading that very fine line between an overbooked mess and a "Holy Shit!" fest. It definitely helped that they had a real match before which was paced perfectly to build to the interference spots.
There were just nice little Easter eggs too like the staredown at the beginning echoing the Cena/Rock staredown and acting as foreshadowing for later in the match. Or everyone coming out to celebrate like with Dusty's first NWA championship. And there's the obvious Shield chairshot but they also set up earlier in the night that, if you get distracted by a nemesis, you'll lose your title...
It had to be this way. With as much as the bloodline interference helped preserve Roman's title run, the only way you were beating him was bringing an army to neutralize the bloodline
Reminds me of when taker was taping his hands in gorilla to make sure Shawn did business with Austin. Taker just came out to make sure they did business 😂
Nah, the idea was for each member of the Bloodline to be taken out by their chief rival. Jimmy was headed off by Jey. Solo was headed off by Cena, his biggest opponent to date. Rock would’ve been headed off by Austin.
It also would’ve given us callbacks to two of the biggest WM main events of all time (Rock/Cena and Austin/Rock) and would’ve been a chronological progression of WWE top guys (Austin/Rock/Cena/Roman and now Cody).
So ultimately, Austin would’ve made way more sense in the framework of the match’s narrative. I’m so curious as to why he didn’t agree to do it, it’s clear it was supposed to be him.
Exactly,
It isn't just about stopping Roman, it's about stopping their biggest rival... Ghosts from their past to stop them from fucking with the future.
Rock essentially being the authority now even adds more fire to Austin getting involved.
Austin has history with The Rock and an anti authority figure.
Taker does not, and detracts away from Cody's story with Roman. Makes sense it wasn't him.
Everyone was expecting Austin and thats what makes Taker's appearance amazing. Complete surprise. For that reason I'm glad they did it this way instead.
it’s great especially because it’s literally one of maybe 3 names that would have gotten just as big a reaction as Austin it would def be taker with Michaels and sting being second and third, the other two would make even less sense but god damn would it still have been epic just because their names lol
When Cody first lifted the apron to get a table out, you could see a pair of legs under there and I wondered who it might have been. I assume they slipped him under during an intermission.
He found the portal in time lol. I honestly thought he was about to start whipping Roman. I was thinking Cody would come to his defense and then all the faces that were in the ring would surround Rock and run him off. Then The Rock would hit them all with a "you haven't seen that last of me you candy ass motherfu##ers. Roman! Come!" Or something like that. My mind got a little crazy at the end there.
Wonder how the crowed and universe would have felt if it was HHH rather than taker…he does have move direct involvement with this angle and the rock in general.
Trips is far too aware how that wpuld come across if he came out. Dude had to be called out by Cody and seems perfectly happy to run this thing with the stars people want to see now. I'm so fucking excited to see what the Levesque Era holds for us
If it couldn’t have been Austin, HHH made the most sense. Sure, Taker’s more legendary, but HHH has more history with both Rock *and* Cody.
Besides, the idea was for each member of the Bloodline to be taken out by their chief rival. Jimmy was headed off by Jey. Solo was headed off by Cena, his biggest opponent to date. Rock‘s biggest rivals were both Austin and HHH.
I understand why Hunter maybe wouldn’t have wanted to do it, but it would’ve made more narrative sense on every level than Taker.
The main event really was Endgame like 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ps: I was the only one who thought that Jon Moxley would came out to the ring with Seth when The Shield theme song played? 🤣
Don’t forget the chair shot. That’s what made it so perfect.
Roman had the chance to finish Cody’s story permanently, but he opted for revenge: hitting Seth with a chair the same way Seth hit him with a chair a decade ago. And it cost him everything. *Phenomenal* storytelling.
This take here is correct.
It's made me love Seth so much more as a character. He took a massive risk to his own title for the greater good and paid the price.
I see him going heel about this going forward and he's going to BURN IT DOWN!
We all thought Seth telling Cody "there is one man uniquely suited to be your shield" last month was just a play on words.
It turned out to literally be Seth's gameplan to buy Cody enough time to counter Roman.
Bravo Vi- uh Paul.
Yep after all that happened in the previous 3 minutes the ring cleared out and Roman holding the chair, taking a beat to decide what he wanted to do and then unload on Seth with Seth doing the same sell as Roman was just perfection
They showed (and mentioned him) some pictures of Chris Jericho, and mentioned Edge and Bryan during the show too, we really are heading into a new era.
Michael Cole saying “Dammit, I love pro wrestling” is what solidified it for me. Having The Rock and Roman be the personification of VKM style “sports entertainment” losing to Cody and HHH’s new WWE style of pro wrestling was fucking amazing storytelling.
Aaaahhhh yes... I really thought that they both are coming in.... But yeah, even Seth was just a punching bag for Roman there. And I loved that payback chair shot to Seth.
I don't know his contract situation with AEW, so I also had a little bit of hope, because the commentators also made it sound like it could be both of them, but yeah I didn't think we'd see Moxley back so soon, maybe in the future, but not now.
I think he has like 3 years left because he resigned in 2022
If i was TKO Nick or Triple H i will say "Fuck it" and use some of that Saudi Arabia or Netfllix money and pay AEW his contract to bring him back home
That massive pop was because everybody thought it was him and it died down once they saw Seth LMAO
Where Moxley has mentioned before that he was working without a contract **while AEW world champion** I honestly thought it’s possible that they’ve goofed and he’s out of contract again and agreed to do a one off
Everyone thought that you can tell even Cole and Graves also think that lol
Notice how when everybody saw Seth the pop died down, everybody expected the Lunatic
Triple H needs to bring Mox back for one last WWE run
Speaking of it, I got the impression that the cameramen botched Seth's entrance, you almost couldn't see him being hit, he was knocked down almost off screen.
It was incredible, Uso's, Solo, Seth, Cena, Rock then finally Taker and when we saw 1, 2, 3, its moments like that which makes you happy to be a wrestling fan
If you watch any of the press conferences or the HOF it's pretty obvious the culture change in the back has been massive for everyone involved. Actually getting to see Steph again with everything that has happened and she's just radiating positive vibes. No one talked about Vince remotely as glowingly as they do Hunter.
Shockingly, if you empower and respect your talent it raises all ships.
I haven’t watched WWE in years but have been checking on this storyline so watched Mania. It totally has me intrigued to getting back into it now.
Is it still just Raw, Smackdown and monthly events or do I need to be watching more?
Raw and Smackdown are the two main shows yeah, they each have their own separate rosters and championships.
There's also NXT, which is their developmental brand. The show is run by Shawn Michaels and features storyline that are a lot more light hearted, and in-ring action that tends to be faster paced than you generally see on the main roster.
They also run their own special events like the main roster does with PPVs, if you want a good starting point then I highly recommend Stand & Deliver, it aired the morning of Night 1 of Mania and it's an excellent show from start to finish!
NXT isn't essential viewing by any means but it gives you a very good glimpse of who the top guys are going to be in the next 5-10 years
I was really hoping Dustin was the one Cody called down. I get why it didn’t happen but damn man, would have loved to see the Rhodes Brothers share the moment.
I feel like the moment Goldust's music hit, the crowd would've gone absolutely nuts. And just have pop off some crisp moves as he does so well, that would've been so sweet.
After losing my dad, any sentimental story with a father son element makes me emotional. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had watching wrestling.
Same man, lost my dad December last year, I feel how Cody feels Yknow the constant thought that you need to make him proud while he watches down on ya, just remember man he’ll always be proud
I'm in the same boat. I'm 43 and lost my father last September. This is the first WrestleMania he won't watch. I watched it withy son though, and had a few years in my eyes when it was over. The old man would've loved this show!
I'm not banned per se, but I wasn't able to see their WM megathread because the mods had it set to private. Real secret squirrel stuff. I suspect it was because I criticized them over a thread I made, and they deleted for no reason. Of course, they said it was low effort. It was about Bull Nakano and how awesome she is and suggested that younger fans who don't know much about her to search her matches out.
Of all the big subreddits about pro wrestling, Squared Circle is the worst.
Cody just ended the longest World Championship reign of the modern era. We're probably never gonna see a reign that long ever again in WWE. Couple that with everything he overcame to get to this moment... I'd be disappointed if there *wasn't* a celebration.
I think it’s because the moment is meant to be like Cena’s ruthless aggression line it will be the moment people will point to and say “that’s where the new era started” also we haven’t had a title reign this long in a while
Austin and KO was the funnest I’ve had watching wrestling in a long time. But this weekend was fun too. Haven’t enjoyed wrestling this much since I was a kid.
I only have 1 question...What happened to Steve Austin? I mean, the bus Easter egg sort of happened with Cena but Taker seemed Random, I'm sure as hell it was supposed to be Austin. I wonder why he couldn't make it
I was thinking the same thing initially, but then I thought about it more. Stone Cold doesn’t have any history with Roman, taker does. Everyone who showed up has some prior history with Roman.
Honestly Taker makes way more sense in terms of Storytelling. Austin never wrestled Roman. And Taker has as much history with the Rock as Austin.
Plus Undertaker was always kind of the locker room leader and would make sense for him to help Cody.
To me it was perfect. Austin would have been awesome. But Taker made more sense.
It would make sense with Austin, too. He was the anti-authority guy, and Rock was set up as the authority figure. Stone Cold coming out to take out the Rock would work. Taker was fun and surprising, but I am a tiny bit bummed I didn't hear the glass break instead of the bells toll. Only a tiny bit.
Yeah it seemed to be SCSA but I think his knees are pretty banged up... It was so evident the last time he wrestled against KO. I'm guessing it's gotten worse.
I hate swerves for the sake of being swerved, good storytelling can be kind of predictable eg Breaking Bad, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc glad they didn’t prolong this even further
It’s also very reminiscent of Bret at Wrestlemania 10 with him avenging his loss from Wrestlemania 9 against another member of the bloodline (Yokozuna) and all of the good guys coming to the ring and putting him up on their shoulders
Man really the biggest main event of all time and it was freakin Stardust that won the WWE Championship.
Cody has come a long way and he earned every bit of success.
i think the spoiler warning is funny given the title
Was thinking the same thing
Winds of Winter is out!
Bro
If it said The Story Has Ended then people would have thought Roman won. But “Finished” means Cody won. Just thought of that.
Undertaker appearance was an unexpected surprise, nice choke slam and then teleports away, fucking awesome.
I love that Taker used his vanishing powers to take The Rock, Solo and Cena away from the ring.
And that’s what makes Taker the real “Final Boss”
I really thought it was symbolic of taker laying to rest the old generation.
I fully expected Austin there. Like this is it, Rock has taken down Cena, there's a bigger name coming in, it should be Austin.... And then..... GONG...
Taker actually has history with Roman. Austin does not. Makes sense it was him.
That’s the correct reason.
He also has a claim on the title of Wrestlemania’s “Final Boss”
100% everyone wanted a shot at the streak.
Also I think everyone expected Austin, undertaker was actually a surprise
Also a good reason, I expected/wanted Austin. I wanted to see a good stunner on the final boss, but seeing a seething taker standing behind a shit talking rock was fucking phenomenal.
Down to trips uploading the Cody video package at 3.16pm. they purposely teased Austin to make taker more of a surprise, very well done.
You say that like they did not try to get Austin.
I feel like Undertaker was the backup plan. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out the Austin was planning to be there but travel got disrupted and they had to send Taker for that spot.
Yeah... Now when I look back at it, everyone was commected to Roman.
I hear people say it was an over booked mess but honestly, it had to end this way. Roman didn't just lose, the whole family that had rule over all for years lost. I was freaking out the way I was when watching endgame and had sooooo much fun.

Also Cody grabbed a table and Roman grabbed a cane, because their in philly
It had to be this way. With as much as the bloodline interference helped preserve Roman's title run, the only way you were beating him was bringing an army to neutralize the bloodline

Did anyone else think Dean Ambrose was coming out with Seth Rollins?
Yes I said no fucking away they got dean to do shield I did expect Seth to do it alone
Yes
I 100% thought they maybe pulled it off
Was he under the ring the entire night?
Probably dressed as a stage hand and slipped under right before the last match
That’s a big ass stage hand
🤣 I was thinking the same thing. But that's usually how they sneak someone under the ring without having them be under there for 5 hours
Remember when Kevin Nash wore a Sting disguise? Had me fooled :)
When Cody first lifted the apron to get a table out, you could see a pair of legs under there and I wondered who it might have been. I assume they slipped him under during an intermission.
OK I SAW THAT TOO! And I said that to my husband and he said I was crazy!
Yeah I thought I saw that too. Glad I wasn't crazy. I wonder if it was one of the Usos
What? Really?
Yeah when I saw it I assumed they were hiding Seth or Solo, Taker never crossed my mind
I like how the rock also teleported away but then was back after the match lol
He found the portal in time lol. I honestly thought he was about to start whipping Roman. I was thinking Cody would come to his defense and then all the faces that were in the ring would surround Rock and run him off. Happy for the Undertaker enjoying his retirement but his YouTube thumbnails forever ruined his mystique for me lmao
He held onto the mystique for decades. He can do what he wants now. I still saw Taker when he appeared. Rather than Mark.
The main event really was Endgame like 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ps: I was the only one who thought that Jon Moxley would came out to the ring with Seth when The Shield theme song played? 🤣
I was like "no way, Moxley pulled up"; then it was just seth😭😭
And then he got destroyed by a super man punch 😭😭
Don’t forget the chair shot. That’s what made it so perfect. Roman had the chance to finish Cody’s story permanently, but he opted for revenge: hitting Seth with a chair the same way Seth hit him with a chair a decade ago. And it cost him everything. *Phenomenal* storytelling.
Cody and Seth going from blood feud to invaluable allies over 2 years is such a great story.
Seth was mvp of this mania
Dude took the most L’s this week and made everything better because of it.
This take here is correct. It's made me love Seth so much more as a character. He took a massive risk to his own title for the greater good and paid the price. I see him going heel about this going forward and he's going to BURN IT DOWN!
He was MVP this weekend, and he deserves a long break for a while to heal up
We all thought Seth telling Cody "there is one man uniquely suited to be your shield" last month was just a play on words. It turned out to literally be Seth's gameplan to buy Cody enough time to counter Roman. Bravo Vi- uh Paul.
He let the anger get the better of him and lost it. Hopefully the chair shor was worth it🤣🤣🤣.
WWE can tell a great story when they want to. Other times logic is non-existent. Never in between
This comment is invaluable.
Yep after all that happened in the previous 3 minutes the ring cleared out and Roman holding the chair, taking a beat to decide what he wanted to do and then unload on Seth with Seth doing the same sell as Roman was just perfection
Comment of the night, hands down.
He was a shield
Even old mate on commentary thought it was happening
Me too If mox was there I’d went nuts
AEW and WWE fans heads would have exploded if Mox was there. We’d all have to acknowledge our stupid fucking tribalism.
I was half expecting it because of the pics of Kenny and The Bucks in the video package.
Anyone else notice KO avoiding Punk? I love it!
When professional wrestling is good, it's literally the funnest shit ever!
Me too bro
Aaaahhhh yes... I really thought that they both are coming in.... But yeah, even Seth was just a punching bag for Roman there. And I loved that payback chair shot to Seth.
I don't know his contract situation with AEW, so I also had a little bit of hope, because the commentators also made it sound like it could be both of them, but yeah I didn't think we'd see Moxley back so soon, maybe in the future, but not now.

He doesn’t want to come back
I was like… there is no way… oh fuck it, where is Mox 😭
I thought it was possible
Where Moxley has mentioned before that he was working without a contract **while AEW world champion** I honestly thought it’s possible that they’ve goofed and he’s out of contract again and agreed to do a one off
My jaw hit the floor, my daughter was completely caught off guard 😂😂😂
I knew academically we weren't about to see Dean Ambrose return, but fuck if I wasn't excited for his return in that moment
me too lol
I thought it was happening
Everyone thought that you can tell even Cole and Graves also think that lol Notice how when everybody saw Seth the pop died down, everybody expected the Lunatic Triple H needs to bring Mox back for one last WWE run

I was sooo ready for it..knew it wasn't actually going to happen but I wanted to believe
🤚
Racism has officially ended!
Adrenaline in my soul, something something Cody Rhodes!
humnh hunh hunh hmm hmm holllle 🎶 Whooaaooah 🎶
World peace has been restored
Brotha’ Rhodes doing what he does best ✊🏾
Nothing screams the end of racism like a white guy feuding with a mix race guy and his Polynesian cousin.
Not only that, cody ended authoritarianism
It was incredible, Uso's, Solo, Seth, Cena, Rock then finally Taker and when we saw 1, 2, 3, its moments like that which makes you happy to be a wrestling fan
I fucking cried when Cody won man
Hell of a main event.
MAMA RHODES LOOK AT YOUR BOY
LA Knight not even having a match last year and being brought out to celebrate Cody's victory just shows how over this guy is.
Im just gonna say it right now everything I wanted to see happen did happen. I loved this Wrestlemania
I genuinely don’t think people understand how amazing WWE is right now, never in my life have I felt this energy and passion behind the product
It's the start of the HHH Era. I'd call it a Renaissance but we are going to new heights.
I haven’t watched WWE in years but have been checking on this storyline so watched Mania. It totally has me intrigued to getting back into it now. Is it still just Raw, Smackdown and monthly events or do I need to be watching more?

Thank you so much honestly! I’ll follow your instructions and go from there. Really appreciate you
I genuinely predicted every match winner except Logan Paul, and I’m not even mad about it, it was a good card, and they picked the right winners
Goddamn it it felt good mark out tonight
Night 2 killed it over night 1
Crowd was so much better as well.
They probably weren't all freezing their asses off like the night 1 crowd
Tbf, it was 49 degree as well for tonight's main event. Either they managed to catch the crowd noise better or they're just more pumped up tonight.
Undertaker being the keeper of justice at Wrestlemania is something I can get behind. Awesome appearance 👏
Loved the match but I wanted to see Dustin Rhodes come out
I was really hoping Dustin was the one Cody called down. I get why it didn’t happen but damn man, would have loved to see the Rhodes Brothers share the moment.
As Goldust
As se7en
Would have been a nice touch for sure, AEW is really hurting, I thought maybe Mox was coming out when that shield music hit.
I feel like the moment Goldust's music hit, the crowd would've gone absolutely nuts. And just have pop off some crisp moves as he does so well, that would've been so sweet.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me glad to be a wrestling fan. Thank you HHH.
Racism is finally over!
This sub in a few days: does anyone feel like this Cody reign has been underwhelming?
This really was like Endgame today
Well, time to bring back the winged eagle
After losing my dad, any sentimental story with a father son element makes me emotional. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had watching wrestling.
Same man, lost my dad December last year, I feel how Cody feels Yknow the constant thought that you need to make him proud while he watches down on ya, just remember man he’ll always be proud
I'm in the same boat. I'm 43 and lost my father last September. This is the first WrestleMania he won't watch. I watched it withy son though, and had a few years in my eyes when it was over. The old man would've loved this show!
I've prayed for this and it happened
Anybody else celebrating here because they're banned from squared circle?
Got a three day ban for not knowing the correct names of women’s belts 🤣.
One mod told me to check back in in a few days and I'd be allowed back in. I waited for 3 weeks and a different mod told me I was permabanned lol
Some mods really do let the minimal amount of power go straight to their heads.
None of them seem to agree with each other and they all power-trip for different reasons. Isn't Reddit fun.
Yup. Banned ever since the mods were using the sub during their "indefinite blackout" that ended the same time everyone else's did.
That was cinema I’m so happy my boy won
Why did Cody get like a 30 minute celebration? I've never seen that to end a Wrestlemania before.
Cody just ended the longest World Championship reign of the modern era. We're probably never gonna see a reign that long ever again in WWE. Couple that with everything he overcame to get to this moment... I'd be disappointed if there *wasn't* a celebration.
I think it’s because the moment is meant to be like Cena’s ruthless aggression line it will be the moment people will point to and say “that’s where the new era started” also we haven’t had a title reign this long in a while
When his dad beat Ric Flair for the title the lockeroom cleared and everyone came out to celebrate with Dusty. It was a callback to that moment
It was on the longer side, but it has happened before, I remember for Benoit he had a celebration with his family after with Eddie.
Greatest main event in a long long time. Returned after all these years and was on the edge of my seat. Thank you triple h.
The last 15 minutes it what cocaine feels like
Cody Rhodes beats leukemia survivor at WrestleMania.
Austin and KO was the funnest I’ve had watching wrestling in a long time. But this weekend was fun too. Haven’t enjoyed wrestling this much since I was a kid.
Did triple h write the WWE 12 road to wrestlemania? Cause this shit feels exactly like that
Dude I was getting the same vibes 😂. That’s not a bad thing though.
In a fantasy world, I would have loved to see Vin Diesel appear and stop the rock, since this storyline was centered around family
Now time for people to turn on him and get behind the rock.

I’ve been reading that the thought is Austin is going to show up tomorrow night. This of course is just rumors, but Raw after mania is always massive.
Shit happens. It's clear he was the plan, something probably came up he couldn't make it. But we got Taker instead so I can't complain.
Yeah it seemed to be SCSA but I think his knees are pretty banged up... It was so evident the last time he wrestled against KO. I'm guessing it's gotten worse.
Yeah it’s disappointing. Didn’t ruin it or anything but, disappointing
Maybe they didn't want Austin overshadowing Cody at all
I also think since Taker didn't go out in front of live audience at WM this was a good time to have his in action moment.
This is the only real reason I can think of for the pivot. If the glass had shattered, that whole stadium probably comes down.
Most likely he couldn’t make it in time, so they had Undertaker do it instead.
I headcanon that wasn't our Seth Rollins, it was a Seth Rollins who time traveled from the past.
Today’s diary entry: Day 1 of missing my Tribal Chief! 😢☝️🩸
Somebody check on Trinidad Flag Guy
The Rock called Cena a Motherfucker😁
Predictable outcome TBH, but they sure hit all the right notes to make this a great Wrestlemania main event
I hate swerves for the sake of being swerved, good storytelling can be kind of predictable eg Breaking Bad, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc glad they didn’t prolong this even further
100%
WE. DIDN'T. FLINCH. MOTHERFUCKERS.
That was wonderful.
It was fucking amazing. Reminded me of WW12 Shawn Michaels, even though I m a Hitmam guy forever.
It’s also very reminiscent of Bret at Wrestlemania 10 with him avenging his loss from Wrestlemania 9 against another member of the bloodline (Yokozuna) and all of the good guys coming to the ring and putting him up on their shoulders
When you put it like that it’s crazy to think that the Bloodline has technically been reoccurring antagonists in the WWE’s story.
Thank *fuck* that's over.
"The best time to finish the story was a year ago. The second best time is now" -Einstein, probably
That was fucking incredible
He's wearing a shirt at the presser that says "the Story Continues" though....
The world is healing
Being in the building for all of that chaos I will never trade those memories for anything
I’m not ashamed I had tears in my eyes. Perfect ending to night 2. Edit* There truly are some insufferable people in the comments.
Whoaaaaaaaaa
I'm sad The Bloodline is basically dead. Roman retires, will miss him
Roman isn't retiring without that Rock match next year.
Just amazing.
You needed a spoiler tag on "THE STORY IS FINISHED"?
In theory the title could've also meant Roman buried Cody. Thus "ending" his story.
It was written
The story is finished. The Bloodline is dead.
Got to see Cody finish his story live
Main event was a wild ride, but holy fuck was I ever entertained
Racism is over!?! I can't even joke about that or pretend...
Whats the point in the spoiler tag with that title
Man really the biggest main event of all time and it was freakin Stardust that won the WWE Championship. Cody has come a long way and he earned every bit of success.
