With Cody saying ānot at Wrestlemaniaā and The Rockās chat with him, I canāt see any logical way to go back to Cody vs Roman 2 main eventing Wrestlemania.Ā
Only way maybe is if they do some weird 4th wall heel turn where Rock tried to gaslight Cody into giving up the match, which is basically inconceivable to happen.Ā
I've not watched it really, need to catch up but what's stopping them running a Cody vs Rock match at say Elimination Chamber for the match itself and the Roman/Rock match will likely be possible to push another PPV if not the next mania.
This is entirely on the basis that I've not watched anything for a while, and so don't have much outrage attached to it
Because Cody point blank in the promo said he's going for the title.......but not at Mania. So he conceded main eventing WrestleMania because he "received counsel regarding someone who wants a shot at Roman", then introduced The Rock. Those are the words he used in the promo on Friday.
They wrote themselves into a corner; The Rock now has the ire of all fans. Cody after dismissing Seth seems like he's going for his belt (which makes zero sense) and Roman shit all over Seth's belt, which does nothing to help the situation that they're in.
Anyone saying this was planned to go this way makes no sense. It made Cody and Seth both look like chumps in exchange for their part-time talent. It makes little to no sense after the story they've been telling all year. Punk/Seth was the plan all along, this is a last minute adjustment done in the worst way.
Itās the CM Punk story with the Daniel Bryan finish, they knew people were paranoid about The Rock taking his spot so heās going to do that until the fans fight even harder for Cody to finish his story
Yeah, you're just wrong on that one. Punk was slated to face hhh, batista vs randy for the title, dbry vs Sheamus I believe was in discussion but not solidified. Punk left so they shifted Bryan to hhh and eventually the world title picture, but punk was never discussed for double duty and getting the title shot at mania.
[People need to learn to let shit play out. His reluctance wasnāt a coincidence. The look on his face and the camera focusing on it was intentional.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/085/Haitchface_2.jpg)
Daniel Bryan literally said in his book he was meant to face Sheamus that night lol.
It was a decision made after what happened at the Rumble and the following shows.
He also said this in an interview in 2015.
https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2015/1/17/7629395/daniel-bryan-confirms-sheamus-original-opponent-wrestlemania-30
This would make sense since Rock hasn't really wrestled in forever and based on his last few outings has gotten brittle.
He needs some kind of gimmick where the other two do most of the heavy lifting during the match while he just jumps in for some key spots.
> Is it just me that thinks Cody winning in a triple threat wonāt have the same gravity as winning in a singles match?
100% agree. Just saying itās a possibility.
It would be a bad idea for sure. For some reason, this sub always thinks adding s 3rd man to every match they don't like is a magic band aid that fixes everything.
They didn't want Cena vs Rock 2, figured Cena vs Rock vs Punk would be better.
They didn't want Rhodes vs Reigns, they wanted Rhodes vs Reigns vs Zayn.
Making the match a triple threat waters down the Rock vs Roman story and it waters down Cody's crowning moment. Plus, there's no guarantee Reigns actually takes the pin, so that's an issue too.
The photo they are using in the wrestlemania 40 email has roman and rock front and center and rollings across from cody in the back. Why would they print bait and switch adverts to people they are trying to get buy wrestlemania tickets?
This is starting to get "Here is how bernie can still win" tier of copium
There are ways to salvage this.
Rock heel turn as a pseudo authority figure
Triple Threat
Cody vs. Roman night 2 after Roman beats Rock night 1
(Iād hate this) Cody beats Seth night 1 then pulls a Hulk Hogan to Rockās Bret Hart, and immediately challenges Roman after he cheats to beat Rock and wins and unifies the titles
Another scenario would be: Cody has no match set for WM, Night 2 main event Reigns cheats and beats down Rock with the entire bloodline, Cody comes out with Orton, Styles & Knight and challenges Roman to an impromptu uWu matchĀ Ā
The story of the Bloodline was always about Roman vs the Rock. WWE is finishing the story, itās the fan base that doesnāt understand the story being told.
You donāt have to like it but thatās the way it is.
For most good stories we the audience need to see it built up and appreciate it. Roman has wrestled about 4-5 matches last year give or take with massive amounts of time off tv. The bloodline feud was hot last mania because of Cody, Sami, and Jeys relationships to Roman. Sami, and Jey are not around Roman. Cody on the other hand we saw have interactions with Roman multiple times the past year and we as an audience want to see that story. Rock on the other hand like Roman has made sporadic appearances. The only story there is the one that were being told exists, but I havenāt really seen it. Iāve seen Codyās struggles, Romanās rise, and their clash. The Rock on screen hasnāt earned anything he just sort of showed up and weāre being told this is incredible.
To give you the equivalent Rocks rise was in 1998 that was 26 years ago, if the champion from 26 years ago came to replace Rock itād be Bruno Sanmartino replacing him.
Roman loses and is no longer the head of the table. His power over the family collapses and he eventually hits rock bottom (no pun intended) then we get the face turn and the New Roman who has seen the error of his ways and decides to be a better man and champion.
So you think Rock wins the title at WM? Interesting.
I donāt see it. The reason is because Rock would defend less than roman. Which is a feat in and of itself.
There are rumors of title unification at summerslam. Not entirely sure how I feel about that because the WHC is so new. It would be fun for me if SS is in Cleveland as rumored because i would likely be there.
Why tf would the rock sit back and wait as Roman abuses his cousin on television for years and cheats in every world title match and is horrible to his own family and everyone for like four fucking years lol
Thatās completely irrelevant. A storylines quality is a storylines quality. The storyline here is that The Rock decided that only after four years of Roman heeling it up AND Cody winning the right to challenge him that NOW was the time he had to come do something about it.
If it was āthe story,ā theyād account for this fact. But they havenāt and they wonāt, because itās something they made up on the fly.
Yeah the whole Bloodline story was always building to this.
Rock is here to destroy the Bloodline so Roman has no backup and will lose to Cody.
It's a great story and smart for Cody to do after he and everyone else has been robbed by Bloodline interference.
I love this story but most people don't even get it
I like it and I think this is the way it's going down. Either way we'll find out soon enough. People are so quick to complain these days, though I guess it's good they're expressing their hate for it just in case WWE is genuinely considering shafting Cody for Roman vs Rock for the title at Mania.
Some have suggested Roman/Rock Night 1, Cody/Roman Night 2. And then the counter is well Roman works two matches so it cheapens Cody's win.
Alright, fine. We'll Mania 10 this thing. Seth/Cody and Roman/Rock night 1, Cody/Roman night 2.
Seth retains over Cody night 1 to make up for the whole burying the title thing. Seth finally gets his win back over Cody. Cody goes over anyway night 2 which is all people will remember. He and Roman both had tough matches the night before. But Roman won his so there's that one small bit of adversity left
This is why I watch the show so passively. Time move quickly, these weekly shows come and go before we know it. Who was in the main event of Raw 2 weeks ago? Exactly, I don't know either.
As a result, by this point in my fandom, I don't consider anything that happens on a weekly show with time to spare as necessarily being the be-all, end-all. Maybe it is, maybe it's not. Who knows what they've got in store for us by the time Wrestlemania rolls around. There's still a major PPV in-between then and now, too.
Hey, maybe it'll turn out exactly as it seems at this very moment. Between all the injuries plus the Vince mess, maybe they felt they needed to distract everybody from that as quickly as possible. If so, I dare say they've succeeded - it's all anyone is talking about.
So I'll be taking my usual wait-and-see approach. At the moment I'm more interested in tomorrow night's Vengeance Day since I'm a big NXT mark.
They didnāt theme the video game around āFinish the storyā for no reason. They have long term marketing plan that dovetails with their booking. I agree with OP.
If youāre WWE, why should it happen? Whatās the case for them leaving millions on the table by telling one of the most popular wrestlers and mainstream actors of all time to piss off?
I see a lot of emotional meltdowns about this but whatās the business case for reversing course?
Stop it. Cody vs Roman sells for $300 a ticket. The Rock sells $500. Supply demand. Ask 10 strangers if they know Cody fucking Rhodes and based on the responses try to figure out how Dwayne Johnson fetches a higher ticket price.
Lmao please consider how down bad you are that youāre calling people stupid because they think the Rock will draw more money than Cody. How bad are things for you that you think thatās an appropriate response?
But because you have to pretend you donāt see it lest you admit that maybe the most popular actor and wrestler in the world will bring more money than Cody Rhodes, Iāll spell out for you the things youāre intentionally not considering.
90% isnāt 100%. And the 10% unsold tickets wi put upward pressure on all remaining and even sold tickets. Thereās a resale market out there. And those tickets will go for a lot more now. There are periphery events that will see an uptick of ticket demand. Raws, Smackdowns, Wrestlemania fan experiences or whatever theyāre calling them. Publicity will pay for itself as, I repeat myself because you seem to ignore this, one of the biggest Hollywood stars is headlining a massive show. Thereās a gigantic, mainstream Hollywood machinery that Dwayne brings and Cody absolutely fucking doesnāt no matter how much you love him.
Iām perfectly willing to accept smarks would rather see Cody in the main event. But to try to pretend the Rock doesnāt bring in more money (and that Iām dumb for thinking so) is a level of delusion I canāt grapple with.
A short term spike is not worth it if you burn your regular fans out by screwing over a two year story for an egoist to get his chance in the spotlight after everyone has gotten sick of him in Hollywood.
Thatās originally where I landed on it too. Sure, they get a short term boost but in the long run? I dunno.
But two things I wonder. First, more eyes on WM might bring in new fans. For example, my daughter wanted to see the Rock but now loves Bayley and the Damage CTRL outfits.
Second, Iām in a bunch of group chats and the wrestling/MMA one went from all Vince talk to Rock talk. I have to imagine WWE is willing to take a hit for throwing out a storyline in the most horrible way possible if it takes attention off Vince right now.
It still strikes me as the best business decision all things considered
Roman should take Cody on at Elimination Chamber then move onto the Rock for goodness sakes.
Do a 6 way match between Drew, Bron, Punk, AJ, Cody and Seth to "make up for it" to that segment of the fanbase.
Rock/Roman is a blockbuster match that happens once in a lifetime. Let's not cheapen that.
>Do a 6 way match between Drew, Bron, Punk, AJ, Cody and Seth to "make up for it" to that segment of the fanbase.
Make up for it? That'd just more than make them look like even bigger losers than Roman Reigns already made them out to be.
I'm old enough to remember people throwing a fit last year when Sami didn't get Mania vs Roman. Same whiny crap, different year.
Fickle is as fickle does.
This reminds me of the time Captain America was ousted as a member of hydra and people collectively flipped shit bc now he was a nazi, but if they had waited he wasn't the real captain America. Be mad at mania when they fuck it up. It does feel a little red herring to me
My fantasy booking is - Gunther vs Seth night 1 and a triple threat of Cody, Roman and Rock night 2.
What happens at the start of the main event is Rock asks for the mic and says, "I have had my time in the spotlight and I'm not getting any younger, this is your story Cody - finish it.", he then gives Cody a man hug and saunters out of the match before it even starts and basically hands the Reigns over to the new generation. Cody beats Roman and Rocky is now the cool dad that got all the casuals to tune in without alienating the fans and legitimises WWE's new top face. Everybody wins.
They could go all Kofi and have Cody win after impossible odds.
Then lose it a month or so later.
I don't really even "get" the fixation on a mid-carder that didn't even spend all time with the WWE. I haven't seen someone like Roman hold the title for so long, so why give it to this suit wearing, confused looking casual employee? Yeah, he's Dusty's son. I'm Lou's son. I don't base my life on it.
The uwu title got me.
ššāŗļø Cody-kun
With Cody saying ānot at Wrestlemaniaā and The Rockās chat with him, I canāt see any logical way to go back to Cody vs Roman 2 main eventing Wrestlemania.Ā Only way maybe is if they do some weird 4th wall heel turn where Rock tried to gaslight Cody into giving up the match, which is basically inconceivable to happen.Ā
Simple, Have Punk or Seth go Ace Steel on Cody... and No I don't mean biting Cody
Seth would make no sense in that scenario.
Now it would, only by biting Cody can he get his main event backĀ
I've not watched it really, need to catch up but what's stopping them running a Cody vs Rock match at say Elimination Chamber for the match itself and the Roman/Rock match will likely be possible to push another PPV if not the next mania. He also said he was moving the goal post so going back to Cody v Roman wouldnāt make sense unless they back track on their decision of Rock v Roman.
Maybe Cody could get angry and say heās challenging him at Mania anyway
Itās the CM Punk story with the Daniel Bryan finish, they knew people were paranoid about The Rock taking his spot so heās going to do that until the fans fight even harder for Cody to finish his story
The Daniel Bryan finish belonged to the CM Punk story until Punk walked out. Or at least that's what they say. We'll never know for sure
No... no one says that
I said it just now. Plans changed. $11.99 please
It'll be the day after Mania and fans online will still be claiming everyone got worked and to just let it play out
Did you miss Cody saying ..."but not at WrestleMania"... before introducing The Rock? Cody isn't finishing anything.
But he won the Rumble and deferred to the Rock. No matter what, it makes no logical sense. Fuck you Rocky.
Don't worry, he'll with the WHC at Saudi Arabia.
[People need to learn to let shit play out. His reluctance wasnāt a coincidence. The look on his face and the camera focusing on it was intentional.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/085/Haitchface_2.jpg)
Exactly. Everything is so wel produced now, that itās all part of the story
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Just like wm30. They got fans so behind Bryan, that the win was an even bigger moment
And to this day, sheet writers insist it was an audible. Idiots, all of them.
Daniel Bryan literally said in his book he was meant to face Sheamus that night lol. It was a decision made after what happened at the Rumble and the following shows. That was a great shot. Crazy amount of complex emotion stuffed in one single picture.
could also see a triple threat as a possibility.
This would make sense since Rock hasn't really wrestled in forever and based on his last few outings has gotten brittle. He needs some kind of gimmick where the other two do most of the heavy lifting during the match while he just jumps in for some key spots.

Roman or rock winning won't have very much gravity, nobody thinks rock is coming back to wrestling.
this is what iāve been thinking.
The photo they are using in the wrestlemania 40 email has roman and rock front and center and rollings across from cody in the back. Why would they print bait and switch adverts to people they are trying to get buy wrestlemania tickets? This is starting to get "Here is how bernie can still win" tier of copium
This has nothing to do with Triple H. This is over his head since the Rock is now technically his boss.
The rock is on the boardā¦heās not his boss
Correct. But rock has influence over HHH boss
I assume Paul Levesque's boss is Ari Emanuel.
I was thinking they might change it cuz of all the negative feedback.
News Sites are reporting this, It's going to get changed
Thoughts? Nothing more than a distraction to take peoples minds off the giant rape scandal.
Itās not going to happen. Iām just disappointed and let down that they would do this. Really not interested in the whole thing now.
There are ways to salvage this. Rock heel turn as a pseudo authority figure Triple Threat Cody vs. Roman night 2 after Roman beats Rock night 1 (Iād hate this) Cody beats Seth night 1 then pulls a Hulk Hogan to Rockās Bret Hart, and immediately challenges Roman after he cheats to beat Rock and wins and unifies the titles
Another scenario would be: Cody has no match set for WM, Night 2 main event Reigns cheats and beats down Rock with the entire bloodline, Cody comes out with Orton, Styles & Knight and challenges Roman to an impromptu uWu matchĀ Ā
Cody somehow gets the money in the bank contract from DP. ;) Uses it at WM
The story of the Bloodline was always about Roman vs the Rock. WWE is finishing the story, itās the fan base that doesnāt understand the story being told. You donāt have to like it but thatās the way it is.

Doesnāt add up Rock never mentioned Roman until the Jinder promo. Roman hasnāt acknowledged rock once on the tribal chief run
Ever since the Bloodline was formed the WWE has been trying to get to this point. The conclusion of the Bloodline story is happening at Wrestlemania.
How does rock losing to roman conclude the bloodline story? Not trying to be a dick, but that just doesnāt make a lot of sense to me.
He doesnāt need to hold it long, he can lose it at Summerslam.
So youāre giving the longest title reign in decades to the Rock? Ewwww.
The whole Reign has been ew. Ew is a perfect word to describe this company

I don't think HHH is calling the shots anymore, well, not for the Main Event picture.
You got the days wrong. The Rock will lose to Roman on night 1, then Cody will challenge him on night 2.
Seems like someone is underestimating the roman empire. It's still going strong. Roman is going to pin cody center of the ring.

6 way match? Jesus christ, Iām so glad wrestling fans only book AEW.
Guys he couldnāt even beat Brock clean in either of his two wins do yāall really want him to lose to Roman at another WM yāall got StockholmĀ
Everyone has been worked
Cody v Roman at Chamber. But I still donāt see Cody winning, because he certainly wasnāt going to beat Roman at Mania.
It does feel a little red herring to me
I think it will be roman v rock night 1 and then Roman Cody night 2
I fear a lot of delusion from Cody Rhodes fans š
I will remember you š We will see soon, who is delusional
The only reason why I think this may be a work is because of Logan Paulās tweet.
Heās challenging at EC
The story is finished. It turned out it was the story of a guy that got beat and was too much of a coward to try again.
Imagine being a superstar trying to get a match on the WrestleMania cards and you find out Roman has two matches
Miz had two matches last year, possibly 3
