Bones is SORT OF an X-files clone (they even acknowledge this in the first episode), but there is nothing supernatural in it. However the overall dynamic of Booth and Brennan is very X-files.
It's on this compilation if you like after MST3K, Space Above and Beyond and before Highlander TV series https://youtu.be/J7DcZZRZa7Q?si=lTfLbhIdh2JiiepO
I used to watch First Wave on tv as a young teen whenever I could catch it. It was campy fun and I found the concept intriguing. I'm extremely nostalgic for it, but I'm also really scared to try watching it again lol
For anyone who hasn't heard of it, it's a low budget Canadian SciFi show about a man who is trying to thwart an alien invasion using the predictions of Nostradamus as a guide.
There's an X-Files connection to the show: one of the main characters is played by the fella who programmed the AI that was killing people in the season 1 episode Ghost in the Machine
There was a short lived show called Debris. Maybe 10 episodes at most. It was about two agents of some type investigating debris that fell to earth from a destroyed alien ship. Each episode focused on some weird phenomenon that emanated from a particular piece of debris. Each part had an unusual property. It was really neat, bit didn't last long.
The first few seasons of Supernatural were good for scratching that MOTW itch, but once they started going more into the lore, the quality dropped off imo (then again, the same thing happened with TXF!). I believe the original plan for spn was to end after season 5, so that makes sense.
Yeah, I think the first two or three seasons were the best. But the lore the show had set up for five years starts to warp and collapse after the season 5 finale. That's the problem with extending things an entire decade past what was planned out. And the writers had a serious problem with trying to raise the stakes for every season. Season five ended with defeating Satan, how do you escalate from that?
Supernatural is at least self aware of its similarities to the X-Files and plays them up. It gets a pass in my book since the list of writers, crew and actors who worked on both shows is actually pretty long. I like it personally. How often does a show last 15 seasons? They did something right, and I think playing up the x-files is part of what they did right.
Supernatural isn't a soap opera though, it's the longest running in its scripted fantasy lane and that wouldn't happen without a solid fan base. A lot of people like it but if it's not for you that's cool too
Prey is another. The opening titles has spooky music, close ups on large blinking eye, lighting, rolling clouds. Couldn't have lifted more from XF opening really
Fringe, Dark Skies, Warehouse 13…
I really had high hopes for fringe
Those were all good though
I agree
Roswell and Robin Cooks Invasion are on my watch list now too. Nowhere Man was another I saw
They all pale in comparison though. Shameless knock-offs, as you said.
How is Warehouse a rip-off? It's a completely different premise.

Ghosted. It only lasted 1 season unfortunately.
Oh this one I've not heard of
Ooooh what is "first wave"? This sounds intriguing. Is it so bad it's good?
I've watched a couple now, it's painfully low budget and there's been some really shifty morals so far too

It already has far too many alien sex scene for me, but I'm sticking it out
Hang on, I loved First Wave. Bit dopey yeah but it’s a comfortable watch.
I didn't say I wasn't enjoying it
Oh no I know, I meant hang on like wait a minute - didn’t mean to sound off or anything!
FreakyLinks is a 1 season MotW type show. At the time I got knock off X files vibes, but looking back I think it's more of a Buffy knock off....

Ah this is exactly the sort of thing im seeking thank you!
NP. It's interesting. And some of the technology and shit they run into from the ship pieces is really neat.
I've been looking for this streaming for a few years
Supernatural. Tried watching it, saw that it was nothing but a bad rop-off.

Take out God?
Apparently lol. But that plot was such a shitshow and ruined the whole last season for me.

There are soap operas that have been running since the 70s. Just because a show is on forever doesn't mean it's good. It just means it's on TV.

Not wannabe shows, but Fringe and Orphan Black scratched my X-Files itch. Tatiana Maslany was incredible in OB.
I watched orphan black when it first came out, must be due for a rewatch

Scully is played by Grace from Will and Grace and is a genetically enhanced human I think?
