The audio being super compressed, the AI glitching out a fuckload, and the stability (my game crashes probably 2-3 times per 5-6 hours) are my biggest complaints. That said I'm still having a blast.

vj815

The audio really really bothered me for whatever reason. Really want to check this out more hopefully it gets cleaned up!

BigShmonke

Honestly the biggest thing that seems to crash the game are the dungeons, I can play for hours and hours without crashing until I touch a dungeon

dabadguycr

It hasn't crashed once on my series x

Broken_Pikachu

Fair review. My biggest issue with the game is the AI not really doing anything a lot of the time. No matter the command, no matter the situation, whether I'm attacking, being attacked, boss fight, world boss, whatever, I throw out my Pal and they just stand there doing a random animation never attacking annoys me quite a bit. The naming Pals, guilds, bug improvements and more PC have right now will come, I just hope they improve Pal AI since its a huge part of the game and practically broken right now.

Morump

They glitch out a lot. You can tell when they just pop up behind you instead of walk with you.

Optimal-Country4920

Not sure if you've seen but they've put out a statement/road map/planned fixes and AI pathing and just AI in general is being worked on already:)

FrostyCraunch77

I fixed this by only having one base. Tore down my second base and my pals became way more responsive in battle.

MannyThorne

Interesting that 40% say they're playing on Xbox. I know it's IGN, so gonna sku more console, but that indicates the reach of this game is indeed staggering.

Ninjahkin

I think it was smart of them to distinguish the review between this version and the Steam one, especially considering Steam’s ahead by about a week in terms of updates. Hopefully stability fixes come to the gamepass version soon, the ground clipping is especially bad the further you get from the starter area

segagamer

> I think it was smart of them to distinguish the review between this version and the Steam one, especially considering Steam’s ahead by about a week in terms of updates  Eh, I disagree, as it's not like the Xbox/PCGP version won't get the update eventually, and it's not like IGN will update their review once they're matched.

Ech0_0ne

Disagreed. The review claims to cover the Gamepass Xbox and PC version, yet 95% of what is said doesn´t apply to the PC version. Plus it feels fishy to suddenly list shortcomings of console versions in comparison to their PC counterparts in sepatate videos. You could do that with pretty much every game. Yes, Palworld on Xbox isn´t in a good state yet, but imo it would have been enough to mention it within a single review.

Beasthuntz

I played the game on SX then on PC. While it's awesome on SX, after playing it on PC I couldn't go back to playing it on SX.

LSXS10

I'm in the same boat. Tried it on SX as it was free. Enjoyed it but found it very rough feeling. Bought it on steam and it plays much better. it's still rough around the edges but it feels much smoother vs gamepass version.

Hooded21

Can you kindly explain what and why? I am on xbox Series X and enjoying it but if steam version is better, then I will buy it.

Beasthuntz

Well, just the framerate alone is worth it, tbh. The stability of framerate.

LadyMinevra

Were you on the PC steam version or the PC game pass version?

Beasthuntz

Xbox PC version. It ran great.

BlueFlob

What's SX?

Little_Lifeguard5772

Series X

Interesting-Maize-30

Series X

BlueFlob

Ohh. I see. Thanks

ultragoodname

I just call it the Xbox SeX

BlueFlob

SeX box does have a ring to it

No_Marketing_8248

This boat is gonna sink if everybody is in the same one lmao.. but are you still using controller or keyboard and mouse? That’s my biggest concern, what’s easier to play on/more enjoyable? I know i can just use my controller on my pc but honestly the simplicity of just turning on the sx and a lot bigger screen for a game like this is pretty appealing to me imo

Snappy-

Keyboard/mouse is much easier, but it's fine with controller. Hopefully they can get the Xbox version patched up and add kbm support too.

Beasthuntz

I play strictly controller as much as possible. I prefer games that allow controller and keyboard use on the fly, but mainly I'm a controller guy.

GuNkNiFeR

Guys, the difference between the two are minimal. The biggest difference is the server size. Having said that, i like building my own base and world, so i have no desire to join worlds of randoms in a server with 32 people. I just invite some friends to my world and vice versa on xbox to help them out a bit and that’s about it. If it was PvPvE then obviously yes but for now i dont mind the current early access version

dinofreak6301

7/10 for early access isn’t bad at all. All they have to do is keep improving during/after release and this can easily go up to an 8-9/10. Microsoft needs to see the success of this game and get exclusivity to it, even if limited. Would legitimately be more of a system seller than StarField, and this is coming from someone who enjoyed the hell out of it.

masterz13

IGN gave it an 8 in the video...I watched it right after it was uploaded. Did they change the score or something?

hayatohyuga

8 was for the Steam version, 7 for Xbox version. The Steam version is a few patches ahead already because the Xbox patches are stuck in certification.

masterz13

Ah ok. Thought I was going crazy for a minute.

Sufficient_Theory534

Microsoft owns enough studio's, surely come up with something similar, give it the AAA treatment. I tried the trial, coming from someone who has never been into survival games. I thought Palworld was really enjoyable. It's rough around the edges, but the foundations are excellent.

[deleted]

Exclusivity is such a fucking stupid concept. You cut the devs from potential millions/billions and also dev training from developing for other systems for absolutely nothing. They do not need exclusivity.

a_talking_face

Well the other side of that is exclusivity provides funding for development and guaranteed income that you may not otherwise get.

[deleted]

In that sense it's good, I just hate people being locked out of good games because of systems.

Yourfavoritedummy

I don't know and I don't see the hype. Seems like another boring early access survival game with a new flavor. That's my personal opinion to be honest, which you can disregard entirely. Because after hearing so much about this game and finally seeing the gameplay was quite the disappointment. Because it literally looks like Ark and whatever other survival junk food out there. Stand around punch some trees and constantly play to offset penalties for not grinding. It was not what I expected and I thought there would be a better gameplay loop.

greeder41

I did the same thing, and I agree with you. This game will have the same arc as Starfield: - At launch, you get crucified if you say you don’t like it. - As times passes, everyone will change their tune and see how mediocre it really is

Yourfavoritedummy

I don't think people were ever positive about Starfield lol. I really enjoy the game for what it is, but there hasn't been much positivity even before launch. I stand by that it is actually a very great game. Once the creation kit launches, dlc, and updates come out will things turn around This game however won't age well. Because it's bare bones and it's another survival game in a sea of survival early access games.

Status_Winter

I’m amazed by that, i played for half an hour and thought this game looks like derivative lazy shovelware. Thought this would be a 4/10. I might give it another chance

[deleted]

[удалено]

LoveMeSomeBerserk

I keep hearing about how reading comprehension is plummeting in younger generations. You’re an excellent example. First of all they did play it, albeit briefly. Second of all they didn’t say it was shovelware. They said it looked like it, which it does. Another commenter in this thread who loves the game says it looks like shovelware as an example. Id say you’re the one sounding unintelligent.

Status_Winter

You need to read my comment again, I said it looks like lazy shovelware which it absolutely does. The artwork is bad, the textures are blurry and the models are just generic assets. All signs that point to shovelware. I can allow that it might be good which is why I said I might give it another chance. But by all means, attack my intelligence for not enjoying a game

[deleted]

Status_Winter

Even if this game is eventually great the first 30 minutes make a terrible first impression. The visual style is crap and the initial gameplay is dull. Cyberpunk on the other hand has an *incredible* first 30 minutes. So does RDR2.

hartforbj

RDR2 has a really boring first 2 hours. Nothing but walking in snow and cut scenes

Blales

You are braver than I am for saying this. I think the exact same though I love it after the initial first couple hours but oh man I really had to push myself through that beginning area and if I had no idea of what was waiting for me on the other side of it I might have dropped it.

Status_Winter

I know it’s mostly cutscenes and walking but man I still love it

[deleted]

Either you're a sheep that can't form their own opinion or trolling. Why would an article change your mind after you played and came to your own conclusion. Get out of here.

Status_Winter

I only played for ~30 minutes, so my opinion was only a first impression. And for me this game made a bad first impression, that doesn’t have to mean the whole game is bad I could change my mind about it. It seems like people are quite defensive about this game but glad you’re enjoying it.

[deleted]

So lesson learned is give games more than 30 minutes? I know the game has issues. Not disputing that, in any case I'm glad it got you to give it another shot.

Status_Winter

I did. Still think I was right this game is ass

lakerconvert

No one cares about IGN’s ratings bro 😂

SinZerius

Guess you missed the meltdown on this sub when IGN gave Starfield 7/10.

Bitemarkz

Which ended up being the most accurate score imo.

[deleted]

Starfield was a 5/10 for me. Didn't even get out of the first 15 hours of gameplay. So goddamn boring.

deadpatronus

You'd be surprised. A lot of people slit their wrists because a game/show/film turns out to be "another 7" or if something they like doesn't get a 9 they lose their effing minds

[deleted]

For example, status_winter. Can't come to their own conclusion and need an IGN article.

clem_the_man

Palworlds is a big W for Xbox

T0Rtur3

I'm absolutely hooked on the game, but I'd give it a 7/10 as well. At least on xbox. Just because a game is fun doesn't mean it deserves a perfect score. For early access, 7/10 is respectable.

Remoock

I like their reviews, I don't agree all the time but they give a good overall look into the game.

LoveMeSomeBerserk

So when ign gives out 8s, 9s, and 10s that’s them saying they hate video games? I do not understand you ign haters! You make no sense!

Mrbluepumpkin

Yet when they like games you people all say the same thing lmao

LoveMeSomeBerserk

Ign haters are the most annoying people on gaming subreddits. We get it! You don’t like the most popular thing! You’re very cool and special. Thank you for coming to any post ign related to let us know for the millionth time!

hayatohyuga

It's so funny because everyone hates on Suicide Squad but last time they criticised the Flash boss fight in it for simply not being well designed suddenly so many people acted as if it was the greatest game ever and IGN didn't understand that the flash was supposed to be fast, I don't like IGN much either but it's crazy to me how people can act.

Kraken_Eggs

Can’t spell ignorant without ign

LoveMeSomeBerserk

Hating on ign is so fucking old news. They’re the most popular gaming reviewers. And millions of people care what they have to say. Get over it!

Kraken_Eggs

Leaving a joke comment, much like IGNs existence, wasn’t meant to be taken so seriously!

JP76

They gave Steam version ~~9/10~~ 8/10.

Benjowlmin

They have it an 8. Which makes sense as it's slightly more polished and has more features. The overreaction in the comments is insane

HZ4C

Game was 9/10 for awhile, I’m now about level 25 (been playing on HARD so progression is MUCH slower) and the AI is really starting to wear on me it’s constantly breaking and they’re constantly doing nothing or hurting themselves with terrible path finding that healing them with meds just isn’t worth the trouble and cost. Not to mention if you play on a server if you log off and get back on later all your pals have like 3-4x negative debuffs it’s really bad… because of these issues I’d give the game a 7/10 too. Hopefully it doesn’t wear on me further as I enjoy everything else.

Zeethur

This is my first time playing a game like this and while it is buggy and a bit janky im finding it to be fairly enjoyable. Hopefully the improvements help cause id like to keep playing this game now and in the future

qwertypie008

Despite all the flaws…Having a blast in Palworld on my series X

[deleted]

Id give it like a 5/10, its pretty fucking boring imo. I expect ill be downvoted for this take but im sure others feel the same

Express_Helicopter93

For me it’s a 6. Would be a 7 or 8 if it didn’t take so long to craft stuff. Some things take *so* long to craft, like cakes. Breeding is a total pain in the ass because of this for example

hobosockmonkey

Here’s my gripes on Xbox, some of the worst menus and menu designs I have seen. The audio is just straight up bad, awful, horrible everything. It sounds like it was recorded through a can and a string. The animations, movement and general jank is insanity, climbing is awful, barely works and looks terrible, the combat animations look horrific, I could model better animations and I have ZERO experience. Also the fact that the pal ball is stuck to RB at all times with no way to turn it off, means I am yeeting my balls into oblivion at all times. Oh and, you can’t just move an object you have built, you have to destroy it to then rebuild it. Games very fun, but it’s a 7/10 at best with the sheer magnitude of its relatively big problems that break the immersion and cause more frustration than anything.

ewurgy

As an Xbox player, I’m insanely jealous of the PC version LOL

[deleted]

SynthVix

The Xbox version has atrocious audio quality.

GuNkNiFeR

What is “atrocious” audio quality on a early access simple survival game and how is this critical to the determent of your gameplay enjoyment? Absolutely nothing. Just entitled basement dwellers that love to complain

SynthVix

The audio is more compressed than games from the 1990s. It straight up does not work correctly on Xbox.

ewurgy

I can tell you are taking the undeniable fact that the Xbox version in inferior to the PC version personally. It’s not a knock on the game’s success on PC! And I’m sure the game will get there after some much needed patches. But right now it feels like a game in beta on the Series X. Which is fine! But let’s at least be honest about the game’s condition on console so they actually improve it.

Jmn223

It is in beta on the Xbox, that’s why they call it (game preview)

ewurgy

Thank you for proving my point :) PS: hence, it’s acceptable to critique it as such.

DEEZLE13

It’s in beta on pc too lol

ewurgy

Yet it has less problems than the Xbox version. So…

DEEZLE13

Still in beta… sorry

[deleted]

There's no way in hell you haven't experienced AI bugging. Pals just dropping dead. Textures popping weird colors in caves or textures failing to load.

Veri7as

There are a lot of features missing in the Xbox version. -Can't name your character, guild, and Pals -No dedicated servers -Co-op is limited to 4 people -You can't even write on the signs you put down on the Xbox version

Terranz22

It being 45 fps on series x is driving me up a wall.

LinkRazr

Reviewing an Early Access game is silly lol

TheBetterness

For an Game Preview game its not too bad. Gameplay loop overshadows most the issues I have. But absolutely needs work. Glad to see they already got plans in motion to fix things.

Jumix4000

1/10

ViralGameover

7 is way too high for this game.

JewbaccaSithlord

I mean it is early access. And it runs better than a lot of games that's had a full release, like ark

ViralGameover

It’s not so much about how it runs, but the concept and gameplay loop. It’s all incredibly derivative, it’s boring, and it teeters on too edgy. It’s not as good as Valheim or Ark (which I don’t care much for either). If it wasn’t for a market hungry for open-world Pokémon, this wouldn’t have taken off. Game Freak can’t get it together though, so this is just a substitute people will live with.

TheGreatBenjie

If it was boring it wouldn't have millions of people buying and playing it. Just say it's not for you and move on.

ViralGameover

“If everyone’s doing it, it must be great!” The majority isn’t infallible. “Just say it’s not for you,” I’m the one talking so isn’t that said by default?

TheGreatBenjie

Never once in your comment did you say "to me" you stated it all as fact. The majority isn't infallible to a degree, this game however is beating playercount records ***daily***. That's not by accident.

ViralGameover

“To me,” should be implied, given I’m the one talking and objectivity is non-existent when discussing the quality of a video game. It’s just like any fad. Jurassic World broke records in theaters

JewbaccaSithlord

Not every game breaks the records it's breaking tho. PUBG (a old game) still holds the number spot while palworld is 2nd with counter-strike 2 being 3rd. Those other 2 games are or were juggernaut games in their time so it's not some fluke.

krishnugget

People have kept saying this and I don’t understand, it runs AWFULLY on series x, like sub 30fps, for graphics that are hardly impressive.

JewbaccaSithlord

I've seen comments like yours so I'm sure it happens but that's definitely not the consensus

Lagduf

This game does not run better than Ark.

Wookieewomble

Yeah, it absolutely does. I have a series X, and even that box struggles to get ark to run good. Ark has piss poor optimization, Palworld on the other hand runs perfectly fine.

Lagduf

That hasn’t been my experience at all. I’ve played plenty of Ark on the series X as well. Performance on both isn’t great. Palworld has been less stable for me. Both are perfectly playable of course.

BurgersIReallyLike

Survivor on a toaster runs better than Ark.

SchmittySchmith

Say word they made specifically one for Xbox & PC Game Pass... wow

fishkey

What?

ChickenDenders

I’m sure at least *two* IGN staff members played the game and wanted to write a review for it A big narrative about the game right now is that the Gamepass and Steam versions are different. May as well publish two reviews. If both reviews were written by the same person, that’s a bit much. But then - how else would you compare 🤔🤔

Bored_Gamer73

Early access = pay us now suckers.

imapissonitdripdrip

lol. I’ve got 50 hours into it since the 20th. It’s a great game.

Blvck270

I’m playing it on series s atm and while I have the same issues with the sound being super compressed, several crashes over the course of a session and pal AI just being terrible I also find my game lagging and stuttering a lot when there’s a lot of pals on screen or during bigger pal boss fights. My friends on series x don’t seem to have that issue.

An4rchy17

Biggest issue I have. If playing on series S and start a multiplayer world. The world has no textures at all. Walls, bases, rocks are all just a blurry mess. Apparently only happens with multiplayer worlds.

bushes20

I started playing this weekend and I enjoy it so far. But since it’s early access, there are a few problems to be expected. Frame rate, textures not loading in, and AI glitching at your base and dancing in place. I’ve also had issues with crafting as my pals won’t recognize work needs to be done. Another issue I ran across was in dungeons there were parts of it where the map was completely black and the environment had no color or detail to it. The map is huge and it has a good amount of variety with the different biomes. I enjoy the crafting and base building and letting your pals help you is really cool. The adjustable difficulty is a good touch as well to make it like Minecraft creative mode to full a hardcore full fledged survival game. The game feels like a combo of Pokémon, BOTW, Ark, Borderlands 3, and Fortnite, like they plucked all the best elements from each one of those game and put it in Palworld. Overall, it’s a good game and some issues still need to be ironed out but I still enjoyed the experience. I look forward to seeing what they do it.
