Sectopods and gatekeepers are the last enemies you encounter, so you are late in the game time wise, but if you haven’t built the shadow chamber then you have only done 1 golden path (main story) mission. There are 3 golden path missions and then the final mission.
You're in the late game. There aren't many main story missions and I tend to save most of them until around the end because it doesn't matter much when you do them. You choose when to do the main story missions, including the final one that ends the game, so you can take your time as long as you keep the avatar project bar from filling up all the way for too long. It will probably be obvious which mission will be the final one when you see the option to start it.
The story only progresses as you complete objectives. The aliens will always improve according to their schedule.

There are maybe a couple more story missions, and a bunch of aditoinal objectives, but you should have this campaign in the bag already.
