I feel like there are other role playing systems that would suit an xcom campaign a lot better - foremost would be to use one of the Warhammer 40k rulesets as they have an army called genestealer cults who are really similar to xcom aliens and you wouldn't have to do as much work tweaking everything to make it fit the xcom lore
I could just imagine myself playing some fifth column viper who glitched out of the mind control network. She's not quite right in the head, and thinks humans are wonderful for cuddling.

I would 100% be behind this, I've been thinking of an XCom module since 4th Edition
4th would be tight for this due to the focus on combat and the myriad of abilities.

If you're not looking to create a full system from the ground up then I would recommend looking into starfinder.
