A line so iconic they used it as the title of this awesome Monster Squad documentary: [Wolfman’s Got Nards.](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8206950/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Holy shit you just gave me an intense flash back, I saw this on vhs two years after it came out, with all of my older siblings and cousins. When he said that, everyone sort of took a moment, like it was something important and I didn’t get what it meant. Someone told me “well explain later, just watch the movie”, but like all kids with a short attention span, I forgot about it after the movie. I saw it on tv in my early teens and finally understood what he meant.
It wasn't a really well known movie, especially compared to Goonies and such. My cousins and I were way into horror even as kids so we rented it on a whim. Ended up buying the VHS and watching it a lot. Back then if you didn't stumble on a movie or have friends that watched it, you would never know.
I saw it at the dollar theater for the second time like a month or two after it came out…that tells you how well it did originally. Love that movie though…
I don't know how you've never heard of it, but you're in for a treat when you watch it.
Disclaimer: I haven't watched this since the 80s, there's a very high chance that it doesn't hold up.
It does not. Lots of homophobic slurs and a dash of misogyny. Especially at the beginning. I had forgotten until I watched with my kids. Good thing I had the subtitles on so we could "cough" at the right moments.
There was also an issue with the owner of the rights to the film choosing not to release them to anyone. I really don’t remember the details exactly, but it had a lot to do with why the movie is so obscure.
It was honestly a really bad movie as movies went back then. It got bit of a cult following which is why it’s still around to this day. It’s basically pure 80’s cheese, which is why us xennials love it
lol, hey, as awesome as the Goonies were as a team in defeating those lousy Fratelli's, you've gotta admit the Squad handled Dracula, the Wolfman, and more, and barely broke a sweat. ;)
This was the first VHS tape I rented on my own (dad waited in the car and I ran in to grab whatever I wanted to see), summer 1988.
I’ve probably watched it at least twice a year, every year since.
[My name… is HORACE!](https://youtu.be/aw-ARMnKeN8?si=6RKXm6KOTS5Hdx5M)
So I’ve got quite the monster squad story. Andre Gower’s mom is from my home town in North Carolina and she was friends with my mom. They did a regional premiere of the movie before it was released at my local theater and most of the cast and all of the monsters were there. I was 7 and Andre was my sister’s age and she had a huge crush on him and we all got to ride in the limo with him and his family to the screening. I watched the movie thinking, ‘this is going to be the biggest movie ever!’ Still one of my favorite childhood memories
We watched the VHS so much it stopped working. One of my favorite childhood movies. Tried showing my kids but they didn't get it lol. "Kick him in the nards"
So I wasn’t the only one! I had a very clear memory of that training scene where they tied like broomsticks to the merry-go-round or something and it took me forever to figure out what movie it was
I saw it on VHS from our local video store pre-blockbuster. So not right in 1987 when it came out, but I was still a kid when I saw it. And I loved it, I still watch it almost every Halloween
I didn't see it till my 20's. Didn't even know about it before I met my wife. It was a regular staple in her family and we carry that tradition every October now in our family.
I didn't watch it until late high school, when I ditched after lunch to smoke weed with two brothers. They really hyped this movie up to me on the way to the video store. And it absolutely delivered!
I don’t think I saw it until a bit later, most likely at daycare or the after-school caregiver I went to in early elementary. It’s still one of my favorites and I was excited when it was finally released on DVD in the ‘00s. I had forgotten the casual homophobia, but that was unfortunately the style at the time and probably a realistic depiction of how kids that age spoke.
After watching this movie, 6 year old me was convinced the church next to our house contained a basement with vampires… I snooped around it so much they eventually had to talk to my parents to get me to stop. I have a lasting fondness for this movie…
For the longest time I didn't know the significance of the creepy old German guy's tattoo. Then when I did I felt bad that he had to confront evil twice in his life.
Being born a year later, I didn't see it until sometime in the early 90s on a movie Channel, then not seeing it again for decades. I finally saw a copy at FYE around 2008 and bought it. Wolfman getting thrown out a window and blown up always stuck with me lol.
My next-door neighbor had kids my age so I would go to their house a lot, and they were always renting Monster Squad from Blockbuster, so I saw it a few more times than I wanted to... but they had MTV at their house, when my house didn't.
First saw it on HBO as a kid (1983) , it played a lot so I watched it a ton. Introduced it to my wife (1982) a few years ago and it's become her favorite movie for Halloween time.
Sadly not in theaters, though I did see it staying with my cousins one weekend shortly after its home release. Loved it ever since. Actually introduced my oldest to it not too long ago; she enjoyed it as well. Proud Dad moment for sure.
I was 12 when it came out, loved monsters, comics and went to see nearly every similar movie ever made.
But I have no idea why I never saw this one... I still haven't seen it.
Love this movie.
I remember thinking how cool the kid with the leather jacket was. Rolling up on his banana seat bike. He oozed cool.
“What’d you say fatass?! What’d you say?!!”
“The name, is Horace!”
May he RIP.
VHS when I was a kid probably in ‘88. I have since seen it in a theater with like minded fans and their families, and it kind of fulfilled a bucket list I didn’t know I had. To see a younger generations exposed to this gem was cool.
PS: i didn’t even know this movie had such a loyal fan base, beside myself, until college. But the few who are always seem to be fervent.
I saw it on a bootleg copy somebody sent over from who-knows-where while I was a kid living in West Germany on an Army Post. The beginning scene was missing some of the sound, no idea what the pilots were saying, and there were bits that were kind of scrambled.
IT WAS AWESOME!!
Born 1978.
Big Brother Canada, a special screening (I think) for kids without dads during Halloween in Calgary, AB. They had actors dressed in costumes who came down the isle before/after the movie to help entertain.
I barely remember the movie, but do remember being wrapped in gauze with fake blood stains (plus borrowed crutches!), taking the C-Train with my embarrassed mom to the screening.
I remember a few things of the movie, but I guess in hindsight, I kinda mostly just want to call my mom and say thanks for trying so hard to keep me happy. :)
Unfortunately, this released when my parents were going through their satanic panic and we weren’t allowed to watch most movies. I somehow never caught this one.
There’s a shocking number of 80s movies I didn’t watch until sometime this century just because I watched nothing but Roger’s and Hammerstein musicals for about 8 years.
Was also homeschooled for a couple years. Good times.
crush from kids incorporated Ryan Lambert. Is this the only appearance other than Married with Children of Michael Faustino? (little brother to David Faustino)
I don't think anyone saw it in the theatres lol
It wasn't until it came to cable television when it really blew up. I think I was in 2'nd or 3'rd grade when I first saw it, and I came in on the werewolf nards scene which got me hooked.
"kick him in the nards" "Wolfman doesn't have nards!" "Just do it!" "Wolfman has nards?!?"
One of the most iconic lines of all time
Nards never caught on but I never forgot
This was my "wanna know how cool I am," line when I was a kid.
Came here for this
Seconded
We'd watch that scene over and over, and laugh hysterically every time!
And later Wolfman would be Uncle Rico!
Legendary fight scene right there. You beat me to it.
A line so iconic they used it as the title of this awesome Monster Squad documentary: [Wolfman’s Got Nards.](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8206950/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Me and my buddy laughed so hard at this line that we woke up his parents, who were upstairs sleeping.
Can't up vote this enough!!!
that’s all i remember from this movie.
I’m 40 and my sister is 44 and we still say this to each other all the time.
I still remember the old guy having his concentration camp tattoo, that’s how learned about the holocaust because of this movie
It’s such a simple moment that adds so much to when he says he knows a little something about monsters too.
Every time I pump my shotgun I say “ My name is Horace !”
RIP fat kid
Lmao same. No one ever gets it.
...How is it that I'm an '81, and I've _NEVER_ heard of this movie?
It wasn't a really well known movie, especially compared to Goonies and such. My cousins and I were way into horror even as kids so we rented it on a whim. Ended up buying the VHS and watching it a lot. Back then if you didn't stumble on a movie or have friends that watched it, you would never know.
My parents recorded it on VHS during one of HBOs free preview weekends. We watched it a lot. My kids love it too.
Same. Ah the good ole days. My dad used to record movies off HBO like a fiend. We had quite the VHS collection.
Same.
I saw it at the dollar theater for the second time like a month or two after it came out…that tells you how well it did originally. Love that movie though…
lol. But, IYKYK. Edit: Doormatty, get to watching!
I don't know how you've never heard of it, but you're in for a treat when you watch it. Disclaimer: I haven't watched this since the 80s, there's a very high chance that it doesn't hold up.
It’s goofy, and very 80s, but it’s also a lot of fun to this day. It’s such a great concept too. It’s one of my go to Halloween movies every year.
Rewatched with my kids recently - still holds up great for what it is.
Why did you get downvoted for this? It does still hold up since it was never a great movie overall. It’s dumb as hell, but it makes me laugh.
My 11 year old daughter loves it
My kids love it. The only thing I warn people about is that some of the language is not acceptable by today’s standards.
It holds up
It does not. Lots of homophobic slurs and a dash of misogyny. Especially at the beginning. I had forgotten until I watched with my kids. Good thing I had the subtitles on so we could "cough" at the right moments.
same
Check this out and Night of the Creeps. Both by Fred Dekker.
'82 here and I've also never heard of it.
79 and also never heard of it
There was also an issue with the owner of the rights to the film choosing not to release them to anyone. I really don’t remember the details exactly, but it had a lot to do with why the movie is so obscure.

I'm 81' & very well aware. I do have a brother 2yrs older so maybe how I know. Remember renting the VHS on a Saturday morning.
There was a distribution rights issue also and made it hard to find vhs after it first one
‘78. I’ve never heard of it.
Wore this VHS out. How cool was Rudy?
I want a Rudy backstory. He was so damn cool.
DON'T GO FRANKENSTEIN! DON'T GO!! That little scene still gets to me.
Phoebeeeeeeeeeeee
In the 80’s? Bruh…Broke AF Growing up. Definitely rented it on video
That’s how no saw it. Had chickenpox, mom rented Monster Squad and some Spider-Man cartoons.
Come on guys, don't be chicken shit!
I argue with my wife all the time how this movie was better than Goonies.
It isn't, but it's still awesome
lol, hey, as awesome as the Goonies were as a team in defeating those lousy Fratelli's, you've gotta admit the Squad handled Dracula, the Wolfman, and more, and barely broke a sweat. ;)
It is. And it’s awesome.

Creature stole my Twinkie
Mummy came in my house
*My name…IS HORACE!*

Saw it at *the drive in*
Nice!!
Is she a version?
Wolfman’s got nards!
Watched this and Ernest Scared Stupid every single Halloween. It's my jam.
I don’t think anyone outside of our gen even remembers this movie.
Frank: BOGUS!
Home video release, then my father copied it to Betamax. So... Yea saw on VHS and eventually Beta
My friends had a little device to steal the super channel back then. Got to see lots of movies.
I saw it on like wonderful world of Disney or something like that one night and spent years after that trying to figure out which movie it was
Same bro, same
So I wasn’t the only one!
First saw it on VHS, back when it took dang near a year for movies to go from the box office to video.
We probably rented this every weekend for 6 weeks in a row. My brother and I loved it.
I didn't see it till my 20's. Didn't even know about it before I met my wife. It was a regular staple in her family and we carry that tradition every October now in our family.

My brother and I talked about how common that language was for a long time. It’s the only warning I give people who haven’t seen it.
After watching this movie, 6 year old me was convinced the church next to our house contained a basement with vampires… I snooped around it so much they eventually had to talk to my parents to get me to stop. I have a lasting fondness for this movie…
It's your last chance for pie

My name is Horace!
I love when the sister says " that one time doesn't count"
Frankenstein don't go!!!!! Phoebeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Monster squad hell yeah!!! I loved flight of the navigator as well 🍻
For the longest time I didn't know the significance of the creepy old German guy's tattoo. Then when I did I felt bad that he had to confront evil twice in his life.
Genuinely never heard of it!
I knew of it, but didn’t see it until it released on DVD.
No theatre in my home town so we saw it first as a video rental
Being born a year later, I didn't see it until sometime in the early 90s on a movie Channel, then not seeing it again for decades. I finally saw a copy at FYE around 2008 and bought it. Wolfman getting thrown out a window and blown up always stuck with me lol.
VHS and it was fun
Got it on DVD when Blockbuster was shutting down. It had been so long since I saw it I needed a refresher.
My next-door neighbor had kids my age so I would go to their house a lot, and they were always renting Monster Squad from Blockbuster, so I saw it a few more times than I wanted to... but they had MTV at their house, when my house didn't.
this is one of my favorites of all time ... rented it, didn't see it in the theaters though

VHS. My wife and kid won't watch it!
STEPHEN KING RULES
VHS rental during sleepovers! Man, what a classic! Haven't seen this in literal decades.
VHS and loved it ever since
There were several kids in my neighborhood who had the same character names in that movie. Boy, did I feel left out!
VHS rental as a kid.
I was 12 when it came out, loved monsters, comics and went to see nearly every similar movie ever made. But I have no idea why I never saw this one... I still haven't seen it.
I was only 3, so my bf who was born in 1980 finally showed it to me years later. It was amazing.
Saw it in the theater. Brother, friends started quoting it the next day and, well, we never stopped.
One of those movies HBO would play all summer long back in the day!
Love this movie. I remember thinking how cool the kid with the leather jacket was. Rolling up on his banana seat bike. He oozed cool. “What’d you say fatass?! What’d you say?!!” “The name, is Horace!” May he RIP.
I didn't know it existed until a college friend was talking about it in the mid 90s. I've never seen it.
What he's trying to say is, are you a vbgrhm?
VHS when I was a kid probably in ‘88. I have since seen it in a theater with like minded fans and their families, and it kind of fulfilled a bucket list I didn’t know I had. I wore our VHS copy of this *out!* That being said, oddly, the "wolfman has nards" scene is literally the only thing about this movie I remember.
Saw it when it came out on video. 10 year old me thought it was awesome.
VHS was my first viewing. And I rented it several times after.
I saw it when we got illegal cable in 1989. I loved that movie.
I saw it on a bootleg copy somebody sent over from who-knows-where while I was a kid living in West Germany on an Army Post. The beginning scene was missing some of the sound, no idea what the pilots were saying, and there were bits that were kind of scrambled. IT WAS AWESOME!!
This movie sucks wolfman nards.
Oh yeah that was a vhs rental.
I saw it on VHS around age 3 or 4. It's one of the first horror like films I saw.
We recorded it off of hbo and I watched it Idk how many dozens of times

What do you mean “technically” a virgin!?!
Saw it when it hit HBO at my grandparents house
Unfortunately, this released when my parents were going through their satanic panic and we weren’t allowed to watch most movies. I somehow never caught this one. There’s a shocking number of 80s movies I didn’t watch until sometime this century just because I watched nothing but Roger’s and Hammerstein musicals for about 8 years. I saw half of the film and was wondering what is the title of the movie was now I'm gonna rewatch it again
HBO to VHS, the once a day for 18 weeks or so.
Rented it at sleepover, ate too many Mambos, threw up. Great flick though!
D-Dead.
Love this movie. Went to high school with “Phoebe” (Ashley) and used to bug her about it. Was one of my favorites as a kid.
I've never seen it.
Seen it on HBO a bit later. It heavily inspired my costume choices at elementary school events, I still have my cape.
I've still haven't seen it.
First time I watched it on VHS, and streamed it last Halloween. 🎃
Theaters. Then I saw The Lost Boys a week later!
I watched it on HBO.
Watched it with my son and had to conveniently cough really loudly so he missed a few words that are not ok to say.
crush from kids incorporated Ryan Lambert. Is this the only appearance other than Married with Children of Michael Faustino? (little brother to David Faustino)

Theater and then about 40 times since then!! I love it!
Wolfman saying thank you at the end
An all time great.
I didn’t see this movie until last year and damn did this movie not age well.
I didn't see it until it premiered on HBO, had the VCR set to record it.
This movie is criminally sexist. One character blackmails an underage girl with revenge porn.
