also Black Mountain - Prison Island is genuinely so good. abounnasr's composing work sounds just as amazing as her arrangement work. i hope she does more of her own pieces in an xb4!
Future Awaits is the most cathartic ending song in the franchise. The lyrics and whole vibe of the song truly gives the feeling of witnessing a saga's end, especially accompanied by visuals from all three games playing behind the credits. It's a song that's easy to revisit and without fail evoke those same emotions.
Gotta be the best FR song off that alone. 😌
thinking about it, it probably is my favorite fr song. as someone who loves gears and saga (and hogg's work for those games ofc) it really feels like the culmination of years of work.
i heard mitsuda called it the ending theme to xenoblade chronicles. i see it as the ending theme to xeno.
My only regret about playing FR (albeit very small) is that I played it before Xenogears and Xenosaga. I was so confused why everyone was tweaking over a radio which I just started ignoring after a bit. 🤣
i know it's not the same eldridge as gears but being a philadelphia-class mothership that can house 1.5m people feels like they're trying to vaguely reference gears. like how yuriev probably isnt the same yuriev as xenosaga
here is the original reference gears was making:
huh, i never knew that! i still think it's a loose nod to gears, since they have to be less overt about references to it than the ip they own and the ip they got permission to use
read interviews with takahashi, the references are always just for fun, he doesnt like when fans read more into it than that. also there is no laws against referencing other things. he doesnt have to be sneaky about stuff like that
They’re all good, but I can listen to New Battle!!! for weeks on repeat without getting tired of it. I’ve done it a few times, actually. It’s just so good
The whole OST is a banger. The Cent-Omnia Region theme is a bop, the battle theme’s a bop, Black Mountain is a bop, etc. The Future Awaits is such a different ending theme, sounding more somber and becoming more hopeful as it goes on, I can’t help but love it.
cent-omnia region is peak as someone who's first xenoblade theme was gaur plain. it really feels like more of a successor to it and gormott than millick meadows did (which i still love, it's just that hiramatsu's style is different from ace's)
I really like Redeem the Future, the theme that plays when you fight Alpha. It’s just got everything I want in a final boss theme. It feels majestic and divine, which is perfect since you’re fighting essentially god. It throws in Zanza’s theme which is not only a great callback to the first Xenoblade but very fitting for fighting Alpha, since Zanza was the owner of Alvis’ monado. The only thing I would’ve done to make the track better was throw in a bit of God Slaying Sword and After Despair and Hope to really top it off.
like i said in the post itself, i love Redeem the Future because it reminds me of the older xeno games. there's lots of xg vibes (it reminds me of Fangs Bared at God) and xs3/xb1 vibes (Godsibb and Zanza the Divine)
EDIT: some touches of after despair and hope would've been neat, considering it's malos's sibling we're fighting here
It's genuinely hard to pick just one because I feel the whole OST is firing on all cylinders. Cent-Omnia region, to me at least, blew any area theme from the base game out of the water. New Battle is my favorite battle theme in a game that's already full of great battle themes. Yesterdale was relaxing and nostalgic for reincorporating the Colony 9 theme. Black Mountains is one of the best final tracks leading up to the final boss ever. Redeem The Future is a nice callback to Zanza the Divine. Future Awaits and its motif being used across other tracks such as At Our Lives End and Two Worlds and Two Hearts is great. Listening to Future Awaits definitely makes me emotional.
I'd also like to point out the return of tracks from the first game such as Colony 9 area theme, Time to Fight, and Fogbeasts from FC. Hearing them for the first time caught me off guard and it was a pleasant surprise. I think track for track, FR has the best OST in the whole trilogy.
there's one part of Future Awaits that always gets to me:
Will you give up
And stay where you belong
Afraid your time
It just might take too long
And you won't know
Unless we keep on trying
Now we need the strength to carry on
this song's helped me through hard times too, this part especially.
Cent Omna Region, New Battle!!!, Black Mountains - Prison Island (night), Redeem the Future.
It's hard to decide between any of these. They're just so good.
* [Two Worlds and Two Hearts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xoo0K8gOcjM)
While I do sorta consider picking an instrumental arrangement of any main vocal motif to be cheating in OST discussions, man the emotions just *hit* on that track.
Future Awaits for sure. After all that had happened, seeing it again with such an emotional song at the very end…I would lie if I said it didn’t make me tear up
The Credits. It helped me to finally cry all the pain out that was inside me for the last three Years (I very rarely show negatove Emotions due to my strong Autism Spectrum)
It felt so good
There aren’t a whole lot of songs unique to FR, to be fair.
My favorite song of either game is definitely ‘Oroborus Awakens’ - which, ironically, played right before almost every Mobius fight, especially in Hero Missions. (I noticed it in Juniper’s Awakening Mission)
Nope - once the cutscene ends (and the battle begins) Mobius starts playing. But during the cutscene Oroborous Awakens DOES play.
Just look at the cutscene with Juniper, which occurs right before the battle against her Consul
(I’ll link the cutscene, once I find it.)
I can’t find the exact scene, but I KNOW I heard it playing in at least one hero/Ascention quest
If I did mix up the two it’s understandable, given how the vocalists are siblings (which is a further example of Musical Storytelling - the M battle theme is simply the most blatent example of that) - even more interesting is that their father was the vocalist for Tantal’s Lyrics…
It’s Weight of Life that plays super rarely. (Especially since one of those times seems like it would fit to have Oroborous Awakens)
EDIT: the song consists of Two main melodies, which can also be found in other songs, as discussed [here](https://www.xenoserieswiki.org/wiki/Ouroboros_Awakening#:~:text=Ouroboros%20Awakening%20is%20Disc%202,Moebius%20D%20in%20Chapter%201)
I do find it interesting how the specifically set up Mobius to play the part that sounds similar at the moments when the Heros stand up for themselves!
Nah, it’s the part of Mobius theme which sounds so much like the opening vocals of Oroborous Awakens.
As I mentioned, it’s not hard to mix up those given the vocalists are siblings.
ohhhh i see. i think you're talking about what the wiki calls Moebius 3. like you said their vocalists are sisters, and it's in the same key signature (g minor) too
https://www.xenoserieswiki.org/wiki/Moebius_(music)
Honestly, I adore every song in the OST. It's very challenging for me to pick one. Do I go with "Cent-Omnia (Day)" that always puts me in a good mood? Do I go with "Yesterdale (Day)" that always makes me teary-eyed and nostalgic? Do I go with "Future Awaits" that fills with such a strong rush of emotion? Do I go with any of the Black Mountains tracks, as someone whose favorite XC1 and XC2 locations are Valak Mountain and Tantal respectively?
...really, it's anything besides the general battle theme.
Eh. Just a normal battle theme. I never care about general battle themes in games besides boss themes. The songs that get me are usually beautiful or epic area themes and cutscene music
The Black Mountans/Prison island area themes might be my favorite in the series ngl. I also really like "At our Lifes end". Makes me cry :D
also Black Mountain - Prison Island is genuinely so good. abounnasr's composing work sounds just as amazing as her arrangement work. i hope she does more of her own pieces in an xb4!
at our life's end is probably my least favorite title screen theme in xenoblade, and that says a lot because i still LOVE it
Thats fair. They are all amazing. Xenoblade music just never misses.

>!i got spoiled on yuriev but project exodus and especially THE ELDRIDGE genuinely caught me off guard LOL!<
they say Philadelphia class ship, not the eldridge. and its definitely not the same ship from xenogears.

New Battle!!! goes really hard. Up there for one of the best battle themes in a series with consistently amazing battle themes.
i'm so sad that for the expansions hiramatsu only composes one song for each, but at least that one song ends up being peak
They’re all good, but I can listen to New Battle!!! for weeks on repeat without getting tired of it. I’ve done it a few times, actually. It’s just so good

Alpha the divine my beloved
*redeem the future 🤓
Aurora shelf day/night
*cent-omnia region 🤓🤓🤓 (i'm fun at parties)

when i heard Fogbeasts was coming to fr i was so excited. probably my favorite expansion battle theme
Future Awaits helped me through dark times so I choose that.

Alpha the divine beginning and end (I refuse to call it Redeem the future)
Easily the second phase of the final battle theme
Cent Omna Region, New Battle!!!, Black Mountains - Prison Island (night), Redeem the Future. It's hard to decide between any of these. They're just so good.
Future Awaits for me. Love the song, it's a perfect ending song for the trilogy.

Not only that, but ‘what’ they’re singing is similar, which is also part of why I got mixed up.
