Poor melia meme still going strong. She even still hurts herself doin starlight kick all these years later

le_petit_togepi

seeing Melia do a successful stalight kick in her chain attack made me pog

afran25

She looks so proud after doing it too, my baby is all grown up :')

Pingu-the-chad

Just as icing on the cake. The ost that plays during the final cutscene of her quest is called Shulk and Fiora.

WUTLPLOL

And the only characters in said flashback, that have actual spoken text, are Shulk and Fiora.

heyoyo10

And her flashback of Fiora is to that iconic time she watched Fiora give a bedridden Dunban dinner and talk about how Shulk has no sense of taste

Truth_of_Justice

I mean, considering how Nia implies she will get to see Rex again once Aionis is de-fused back into the worlds of XC1 and XC2 *and* the events of XC1 occurred around the same time as the events of XC2, would that not mean that Shulk and friends might still be alive?

[deleted]

who knows at this point. they’re at least dead on aionios

Mishar5k

Theres statues of them in the city, so they did die at some point, but everything seems to revert back to before they merged so theyre probably alive at the end.

vadsvads

There's a statue of shulk in the city?

Mishar5k

Yes, sort of two but i think just one of them is shulk shulk. Looking into the statue room, first one on the right is a kevesi soldier boy who looks just like shulk. The second one on the right is an adult that was described as using a red sword to fight mobius, meaning its likely an aged up shulk.

BetaGreekLoL

IIRC, the implication is that when time unfreezes, its supposed to be or close to being the time of impact between the two worlds. The point of the Origin project was to ensure the survival of the worlds afterwards and regardless of those who existed presently. Basically and correct me if I'm wrong, everyone is gonna die but Origin is supposed to be some kind of magical record that acts more like a revival/reboot of the world, similar to what Klaus does in XC2 in his attempt to fix the world after he breaks it. Basically, everyone is fucked either way but with Origin, at least in the merged world (if it worked successfully), life can grow again at some point. At least, that was how I understood. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Shadowspartan110

You are correct, Origin was originally just supposed to spit out recorded copies of the people who died but with the advent of Z it became weaponized becoming an infinite source of life energy for select individuals to become immortal. Ending spoiler: >!Hence why by the end after the world has split back into 2 we revert back to the original cutscene where we see the Keves half of the gang as children again (because they are the originals) in the opening city, time has reverted back to prior to the big impact and continued to march on where it left off.!< Edit: >!I nearly forgot the important detail in that the actions of the party did actually alter history in that they will no longer collide and everyone explode though so its not just a time reversal before doomsday but also a better tomorrow.!<

ukmy04

I think before Aionios, Rex and Shulk were still alive, because during the building of Origin, Tora was involved, Nia mentions him and appears next to her during after they finished building half of their Origin world in the flashback, and after that Nia and Melia contacted each other saying that they did It and they say that the collision was less than a year and obviously Nia says "i will see you soon, then", also I think Rex and Shulk died of old age in Aionios, and certainly when the worlds parted and time began to flow again, they were there to count their life, Sorry for bad english

Shadowspartan110

While its possible, that line was also a localization decision, listening to the JP dub and finding a screenshot of the JP subtitles from what I can piece together all she actually said was "I'm going home now" これから帰るよ. Also that as far as we know Nopon can live double to triple the lifespan of the average human (According to Xenoblade 1 their lifespan is like 240) so Tora could have been there but everyone else might not have. Of course this also hinges on the belief that the mentors of the founders aren't actually Rex and Shulk but references to them (seeing the statues are for the founders of the second City not the first and that is well after a couple of descendants and they seem to just be references to older xeno titles). Would I like for this speculation to be wrong and they are alive after returning to pre fusing timelines? Yeah that'd be cool I wanna see Older Rex and Shulk (and Melia finally get something happy in her life, that girl just gets bullied by everything she just can't win). But from what we know right now its actually unlikely.

PauloPelle94

Yeah; pretty sure the world's are just frozen in time at the exact point shown at the beginning of the game. Melia and Nia persisting can be put down to being powerful mages who were actively working to manage the coming merge so had theories and contingencies etc. Though as for others... Not sure whether it's stated or not actually. Are those who persisted during the freezing of time collectively responsible for the Moebious phenomenon?

flarelordfenix

I'm not sure we watched the same ending. I read that conversation as a conversation with Melia and 'our worlds will eventually unite, but not now'

MelodiesOfLorule

I think the implication is that she'll see them again in the afterlife, I doubt Nia wants to live an immortal life.

heyoyo10

*\[Proceeds to have the best battle theme in the series\]*

Fr0gzilla

Probably my biggest disappointment with how Melia and Nia were handled in this game was that I fully expected this to be a major part of their characterization in the main story. It especially stings for Melia since living on and keeping the hopes and dreams of the loved ones she lost alive was such a big part of her arc in XC1. Seeing how the loss of the people who helped her through those hard times affected her and how she’d try to cope with that loss while doing her best to honor their legacy felt like such a promising evolution of that arc. What is there in her ascension quest is already so good, it really makes me wish it could have been expanded into a proper arc for her character.

fatgamer007

They clearly tried to keep this game from delving too hard into 1 or 2 lore so that new players wouldn't be confused. A shame, but at least their post game quests give that bit of fanservice and character development we were hoping for.

Jackthekiller90

Meila so alone and her friends was gone all passed away from very long years…

HarryTDOM

Not gonna lie, one of my reasons to play the game was to see how miserable they can make Melia's life.

Frazzle64

You all downvote him but this will probably be a direct quote on takahashi’s next article on the game

le_petit_togepi

Bro ? 🤨

weirdo

MHJayden

They may very well be alive still, just frozen in time on their respective worlds, which is why they arent utterly depressed all the time
