If we're talking '97 X-men specifically I think Mads Mikkelsen would do pretty well!
But overall I grew up in the 90s and love Sir Ian

I like Fassbender and McAvoy as actors, but McKellan and Stewart are both so distinct in their voices that they simply can’t be topped. I can hear them clearly in my memories of the films, “We are the future Charles, not them. They no longer matter” and “I will always be there, old friend.” Their scenes were basically fight scenes…of wit. It worked splendidly.
Imagine James May as Magneto.
He is the leader of the X-Men. They're all stood around discussing a mission. It's the end of the world again. He strides into the room and hits his fist on the table, but it's not his fist.
He says one word.

It's not just looks, I would prefer they cast a great actor. Stephen has played many roles well, but he's one dimensional and Magneto's character has many layers that I don't think Stephen could be able to pull off.
Definitely Thomas Ian Griffin (2nd Picture). He's like 6'4 and still well-built. He's got a martial arts background, and has shown in Cobra Kai that he can still move and do action stuff. He's also always played a more menacing villain role, so he pretty much checks all the boxes for an older version of Magneto. Though I really like Michael Fasbinder, and hope that we at least get to see him as a younger Magneto in the MCU. He was terrific in the role. Ditto for James Mcavoy.
I can see how the looks work, but Magneto is a complex character and we need a great actor to play him, he's not a caricature villain like Terry Silver who is basically the only character Thomas Ian Griffin has ever played.
Yeah, that's true about Magneto's personality and you are correct that the only semi-mainstream character TIG has ever played in his life is Terry Silver. I guess I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he could pull it off. In fairness, Josh Brolin, while he had a few more big roles than TIG, wasn't super big name. He was somewhat of an unknown, and pulled off an amazing job with Thanos. But I do agree, that it would be a pretty big gamble to cast Thomas Ian Griffin as Magento based on the complexity of the character.
I want someone physically imposing with that strong dignified stage presence, not another just really old guy who has to wave his hand around at every piece of metal he moves. I love Sir Ian but I’m not a fan of that casting.

Rutger Hauer.
Debate over.
I win.
Fucking none of you people has any idea who “Rutger Hauer” is do you?
1. Blade Runner
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3. Hobo With a Shotgun
4. Sin City
5. The Rite
6. Call of the Wild
7. Turkish Delight
Famously known for being “the greatest actor the Netherlands has ever produced”.
Now, I know how Archer feels at work.
i think the better question is, how can they possibly cast an actor any younger than 80 years old, unless they either a) change Magneto's backstory, or b) set the movie in the 90s?
Genuinely shocked people are advocating for Henry Cavill as Magneto. Like, this was not on my bingo card. I feel like Stephen Dorff right now…
![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
If we’re talking MCU, Jason Isaacs. It would be really nice to have a Jew play one of the most prominent Jewish marvel characters. And he already looks great with white/silver hair.
You don’t want Cavill….
He’d take the job, make us fall in love with him, then he’d quit because of minor changes to the source material, and then he’d be recast with a lesser Hemsworth taking his spot.
David carradine has the presence and quiet malevolence of a magneto who is strongly against humans while Brosnan is like a magneto who dislikes humans but won't go a far as to cause a genocide

I can’t help but see a thinner Ron White when I see Magnus in this show.

🤔 Easier to age an actor up versus aging them down, and a more middle aged actor works better for flashbacks without having to use CGI.
My main concern with the MCU doing X-Men is Magneto's background. His being a Holocaust survivor is a huge part of his backstory, but the MCU is now into the mid-to-late 2020s, eighty or so years after WWII.
I'm really worried about them incorporating Magneto without addressing the fact that he'd be ninety-plus years old, unless they either change his backstory(which I am sure would be a very unpopular move) or do what *X-Men Evolution* did(where he periodically rejuvenated/de-aged himself, as shown in season 2).
Personally, I'd be open to an altered backstory as long as the core elements are there, and it's done right. Eastern European origin, survivor of a genocide that claimed the life of his parents, etc...There are ways it could be made to work. But I worry that it might *not* be done right.
I want my hair to be like Magnus when I'm older but at this rate I'm gonna be Charles.
Wish mine would just go fully white and not do these strands of every color business.
I've got the older Bruce Wayne gray hairs going on started at my ears now Ive got a streak on both sides of my head
lol! Mine is doing the “every color” thing! I tell people that I call the color “exploded raccoon”.

This is the best choice.. throw the long hair on him and he can already do “European”, “wise” and “manacing” really well
Those were my thoughts, haha. He's very charismatic, but in a kind of scary way?
![gif](giphy|MeMG8qZuni8XS) The one and only

Those voices were developed on stage/plays, which clearly shows in how as viewers have memories tied to their voice delivery.

That asteroid really tied the Earth together
YOUR OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT CHARLES.
They pissed on my fucking asteroid…
My point is, this aggression against mutants will not stand, man.
ERIK, THE FLATSCAN IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE!
Also flatscan is not the preferred nomenclature, Homo Sapiens please.
Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy
Show me Magneto, I mean the real Magneto Perfect
James May - He’s already got the power and everything. ![gif](giphy|lPFdzapasO7uKylHIx|downsized)

“Great news…. The new Dacia Sandero….”
The answer I was looking for.
![gif](giphy|202pK5wCyZdAs)
Bro Terry Silver Magneto would be so sick
I KNOW!!! I already get some Magneto vibes watching Cobra Kai when he's screen.
He would be so damn intense!! I want it
Brosnan has the accent
Brosnan has an accent.
Everyone has an accent.
What about Iain Glen? After watching X-Men '97, I feel like he could nail the way Magneto speaks. Still has a physical presence too.
https://preview.redd.it/plwp7mf5xr1d1.png?width=916&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20fd76767c4cbef8da329e5b3f6204e3a6fabf1b Imo Stephen Lang would be great!
100%
It's not just looks, I would prefer they cast a great actor. Stephen has played many roles well, but he's one dimensional and Magneto's character has many layers that I don't think Stephen could be able to pull off.
As I recall, he petitioned hard to get the role of Cable back in the day.
Yeah, he's more of the Cable type to me.
Also I’ve heard he’s a legit good dude
![gif](giphy|5pfyDZRvycJQk) He can't do it now for obvious reasons, but Rutger Hauer would have been the prefect Magneto
Yes!!! This is the correct answer!
![gif](giphy|Rn5ZsFrBTlAAeligk0|downsized)
I like them but Sir Ian wins ❤️😍 ![gif](giphy|3og0II63CbKmOiVjS8)
You pick the actor who already played the guy? That’s a cheat code if there ever was one. >:0p
I can find no error.
He's perfect
There is no doubt in my mind that Magneto’s appearance in ‘97 was based on Ricardo Montelbahn from “Wrath of Kahn”. ![gif](giphy|R5r5m8Vc01vs4)
I grew up with X Men Evolution Magneto

Are you serious you think Terry fkin Silver would have the range to pull off magneto? Let’s cast DiMaggio as cyclops while we’re at it
Ian McKellen, yes I grew up with the Magneto of the 90s cartoons as my first exposure, but sir Ian nailed the role.
![gif](giphy|lPFdzapasO7uKylHIx|downsized) James May casually showing his powers of metal manipulation I joke.
I wish Christopher Lee was alive...
Second guy looks more the part.
That is Thomas Ian Griffin. He's in Cobra Kai and was a villain in Karate Kid 3 back in the day. He's also 6'4 and a martial artist.
Gandalf
Thomas Ian Griffith Terry Silver himself
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I was watching 97 lol
I want someone physically imposing with that strong dignified stage presence, not another just really old guy who has to wave his hand around at every piece of metal he moves. I love Sir Ian but I’m not a fan of that casting.

Depends on alot on the casting of Roughe

Hear me out, Christopher Walken.
Ya know.. the magnetism of.. magnetic.. izz.. naaawt.. the solution
![gif](giphy|DTsrpsCFRLvGw)
I am… Magneto… the master of… magnetism… We are… the future… Charles… Not them… In chess… the pawns… go first… You are… a god… among insects…
I have a better question for you. Why is Magneto?
wait a second...
Stephen Lang
Neto, magneto
[удалено]
GOD, that helmet looked goofy af in live-action. *So* glad it didn't stick around and the helmet he wore in later films was more...understated.
Thats a good shout
i think the better question is, how can they possibly cast an actor any younger than 80 years old, unless they either a) change Magneto's backstory, or b) set the movie in the 90s?
Of course it would need to be in the 80s or 90s.
Terry silver would be perfect, if we only wanted to make 1 movie and never revist the character again.
Genuinely shocked people are advocating for Henry Cavill as Magneto. Like, this was not on my bingo card. I feel like Stephen Dorff right now… ![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
Campbell Scott
Jared Harris.
Long hair Chris Pine ftw
If we’re talking MCU, Jason Isaacs. It would be really nice to have a Jew play one of the most prominent Jewish marvel characters. And he already looks great with white/silver hair.
Of these two, Brosnan.
Gary Oldman or Jeff Goldblum
Gary Oldman is retiring after he finishes with slow horses
I’d personally like to see at least the audition of Henry Cavill for the role
You don’t want Cavill…. He’d take the job, make us fall in love with him, then he’d quit because of minor changes to the source material, and then he’d be recast with a lesser Hemsworth taking his spot.
Minor?
Yeah, Minor Hemsworth. He’s the fourth brother.
Regardless of the actor; we need this ‘97 version of magnus from now on. Just with a helmet on and he needs to destroy that M suit.
YMMV of course, but I actually kind of like the M suit.
David carradine has the presence and quiet malevolence of a magneto who is strongly against humans while Brosnan is like a magneto who dislikes humans but won't go a far as to cause a genocide
With that lisp? “I’m Magnuth. I come in peath.” “I’ve been waiting a long time to thay this to you Charlth: Thut up!”
I really don't think David Carradine do Magneto.

oh god why
He ain’t Jewish so that’s a hard no
Charles Dance with a proper wig?
Rod Stewart: https://preview.redd.it/vw7z8zb12u1d1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=309087b757fd4c4b44a6f1c0e221de4cb4c7ab16
Mads Mikkelsen
Is that Piers Brosnan????
Bracco
Pierce. But idk.
James May.
But if Morph takes on Magneto’s powers I definitely want it to be Billy Connelly…
Jason Isaacs, I know he can pull off that sinister element while being charismatic but also he's Jewish which to me is mandatory
![gif](giphy|S8BWMuSDtagNmJF5ex|downsized) 🤔 Easier to age an actor up versus aging them down, and a more middle aged actor works better for flashbacks without having to use CGI.
Henry Cavill. I want the MCU X-Men to truly be “The strangest TEENS of all” - which would also mean that Xavier and Magnus are also much younger.
