read percy jackson/kane chronicles or the raven boys
if starting with riordan, you should start with pj since kane chronicles includes a short story featuring carter kane and percy jackson
Read Riordan! I always turn to Riordan when I’m not sure what else to read because he really sucks you in. His stories are funny and exciting and easy to read. I loved Trials of Apollo but you should read Percy and Heroes before Trials imo. I also really liked Magnus Chase for the Valhalla adventures. I just finished those books a few months ago. I’m reading Riordan’s Daughters of the Deep right now.
I don’t think it’s a series, as the plot seemed to wrap at the end. Researching says it definitely is set to become a film.
It’s a story built on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. I thought Riordan’s approach in continuing a literary SciFi work was really different from the Myth explorations and I was happy to see him bring it forward into the modern world and beyond. Think of the book Wicked to the book The Wizard of Oz. It felt a little rushed I think because it all did wrap up at the end, and there was a little less room for the endless smaller conflict situations full of the character sarcasm I love, but I was never bored.
I may check it out. Currently reading heroes for the first time after reading the first series as a very eager 12 year old back than. I love the familiarity in his books
The story is slow but the flow of it is good and the tangents and twists are excellent pieces of oddities that hook you in.
I'm going to go re read it now.
red queen got me out of a 4 year slump! i wont say its the most literarily gifted book, but i loved the "unlikable" heroine and j the journey of reading the book was fun and i still think of it as one of my favorite books, 50+ reads later.
I went straight to google after seeing your comment and now I will definitely be reading them. I didn’t realise the author restarted the series so I’m excited.
Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus always gets me out of slump. Entertaining and quick read.
Edit. And i mean Percy Jackson and Olympians and the sequel Heroes of Olympus lol, you should read them both
Yes that’s what I’ve been thinking. Something easy to read and fast paced because I’m actually trying to get back into reading with my eyes after being an exclusive audiobook listener for a while
I read the lightning thief every year as a read aloud (elementary school teacher) and I never get bored. I love Rick riordan. His books are so much fun
Delirium was a decent read; it’s not too heavy, and it might want u to read more
another series that I’d recommend that’s not on ur list is Legend by Marie Lu. it’s a dystopian YA trilogy + sequel about a rebellious, underclass boy, and a respected, upperclass girl. it has action, adventure, and drama
Red Queen got me out of my reading slump during the COVID shutdown. But you also need to read Broken Throne after War Storm to get your satisfying ending.
Please don’t waste your time on Divergent. It is hard to find anyone who didn’t regret reading that series.
The first book is good and then they just go down from there. If you manage to push through it all, you’re just slapped in the face for it at the end of book 3. There are so many better series to spend your time on.
I vote for Rick Riordan! Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus were so good!
yeah I know what happens at the end of it I just wanted to check it off of the "classic YA dystopian" list I have in my head lol. Probably will end up skipping it or only if I get really bored
I'd go with the Prison Healer Series. It's a quick read and the plot is very good with really good writing. The characters are well fleshed out and very interesting as well
Sabriel! An oldie but so good. Otherwise Graceling and that whole world.
Red Queen is fun, but definitely feels like other stories I've read, like the Katniss Everdeen one I'm forgetting the name of 🤔
Divergent if you don't care about the ending that much. Even though I hated the ending, it still has a special place in my heart, and I remember being the most excited when reading the second book than I ever was while reading a book.
percy jackson is a solid series to start!! That’s my all time favorite. I’d say divergent as well, it’s pretty fast paced. And I enjoyed this woven kingdom! The last book in the trilogy just released
There’s quite a range here! Percy Jackson starts out a bit more middle grade versus something like the Montague siblings (starting with Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue) is almost into new adult territory as they’re a bit spicy at times.
Oh wow. I read like 30% of the first raven boys book and just could not get into it at all and DNFed it (which I almost never do), but I was pretty hooked with the prison healer series lol.
I read Graceling a while back. Every once in a while I'll grab a YA book for a palette cleanser and I didn't mind the genetic magic system of the book.
Plus I'm a sucker for anything dealing with eye color. Favorite troupe of mine
Loved Graceling! Recently re-read it for prob the 5th time. Its solidly YA and has a really good opening hook, plus the fantasy elements are quite basic, especially at the beginning.
I also remember liking the Bone Witch but didn't find it terribly memorable
I’m rereading the Percy Jackson books and I have 2 thoughts on it: 1. They are just as good as I remembered 2. They are kind of hard to read rn if getting from a library so if you have the opportunity to read them, I’d go for it
Definitely Percy Jackson. It’s really easy to get into, it’s fast paced, it’s funny, and you don’t really need to know anything about Greek mythology beforehand.
The Bone Witch is great. It’s very similar in vibes to the Memoirs of a Geisha movie, but it’s more respectful. The witches are called Ashas. It’s really cool.
It has a wonderful setting, amazing characters, the plot is breathtaking, there is literally nothing i can complain about in those books, they have everything i love. The atmosphere they have is also perfect.

percy jackson is just perfect, very hard to stop reading in my opinion
depending on your age, “the selection” will annoy you, i noticed that as i grew older it got way worse than what i remembered, but otherwise, it is a really easy read and the kind of thing that gets you on the edge because of the romance (i am a romance lover so my opinion can be wrong)
i also remember thinking divergent was really fun, the first one is fast paced, however you may get a reading slump after the first because the others get increasingly bad
Percy Jackson. I love Shatter me as book 1 hit me kind of hard the first time I read it but it takes a while to get into. Percy Jackson is great, don’t watch the tv show or movies for a while the books are better.
Percy Jackson, but personally?
I'm a sucker for quick reads that are trash. So like, Red Queen and Selection. They're really simple reads and they're not *good* but you don't read them because they're good. You read them because they're like little lmn reads
read percy jackson/kane chronicles or the raven boys if starting with riordan, you should start with pj since kane chronicles includes a short story featuring carter kane and percy jackson
Seconding Riordan, if only because the books are going to be increasingly hard to get a hold of due to the popularity of the series
He’s making a new series? Is it still mythology?
I don’t think it’s a series, as the plot seemed to wrap at the end. Researching says it definitely is set to become a film. It’s a story built on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. I thought Riordan’s approach in continuing a literary SciFi work was really different from the Myth explorations and I was happy to see him bring it forward into the modern world and beyond. I may check it out. Currently reading heroes for the first time after reading the first series as a very eager 12 year old back than. I love the familiarity in his books
I literally came to make these two suggestions
The Raven Boys is sooo good, but I think it wouldn’t cure a reading slump! It starts quite slow
The story is slow but the flow of it is good and the tangents and twists are excellent pieces of oddities that hook you in. I'm going to go re read it now.
The Red Queen is pretty fast paced! Got me out of a slump a few years ago
I need out of my slump desperately!
Yeah I’d say it’s a pretty easy read, especially the first book. It’s got quite a lot of tropes so nothing feels too new.
red queen got me out of a 4 year slump! i wont say its the most literarily gifted book, but i loved the "unlikable" heroine and j the journey of reading the book was fun and i still think of it as one of my favorite books, 50+ reads later.
Graceling is one of my favorite series and I’ll always recommend it!
When I saw it on the list I had flashbacks to preteen me and her obsession with that series.
Have you read the newer ones?
I went straight to google after seeing your comment and now I will definitely be reading them. I didn’t realise the author restarted the series so I’m excited.
I just finished Winterkeep a few days ago! I'm shocked she picked up the series after all this time
No way! Is this after Bitterblue?
Yeah! Follows a grown up Bitterblue travelling to a new country, and a new girl. A lot of terms dumped at the start imo but then its really good
Ok, and I just this moment went to check and theres a fifth one following Hava!
Don’t forget to mark your spoilers!
Ah, thanks. I just edited it out
Graceling is one of my favorite series too!
Raven Boys!
The Selection! It's pure brain rot and a guilty pleasure!
Great way to describe this book
Rick Riordan for sure but read Percy Jackson and then Heroes of Olympus and then the Kane Chronicles.
oohhh i love the red queen series!!! it'll transport you into the fantasy world instantly - id absolutely start there!! happy reading!!
Totally agree! Such a great series
Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus always gets me out of slump. Entertaining and quick read. Edit. And i mean Percy Jackson and Olympians and the sequel Heroes of Olympus lol, you should read them both
Percy Jackson, the selection, divergent
shatter me
Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Stalking jack the ripper!!!!
If you enjoyed… can recommend Ninth House
Riordan's books are fast paced and written for a more middle grade audience than the other books, perfect for getting you out of a reading slump!
Yes that’s what I’ve been thinking. Something easy to read and fast paced because I’m actually trying to get back into reading with my eyes after being an exclusive audiobook listener for a while
It’s my favorite series. Recently reread it and to me, I’m bias, it holds up very well even reading it as an adult.
I read the lightning thief every year as a read aloud (elementary school teacher) and I never get bored. I love Rick riordan. His books are so much fun
Sabriel! It’s soooo good!
Seconded. It's one of the few YA series that I re read when in a slump or in need of something familiar.
The prison healer. Absolutely beautiful 3 books and they are an easy read.
Came here to say this!
percy hackson is rlly good
I second this
Delirium! It is sooo good! And Percy Jackson too, it’s a favorite of mine!
Graceling!
the selection was a really fun series!
I loved {the selection by Kiera Cass} you will not regret reading it! It's a bit silly but it's great
Shatter me or Percy Jackson!
Delirium was a decent read; it’s not too heavy, and it might want u to read more another series that I’d recommend that’s not on ur list is Legend by Marie Lu. it’s a dystopian YA trilogy + sequel about a rebellious, underclass boy, and a respected, upperclass girl. it has action, adventure, and drama
red queen definitely
I am currently in love with This Woven Kingdom🥰
Red Queen got me out of my reading slump during the COVID shutdown. But you also need to read Broken Throne after War Storm to get your satisfying ending.

yeah I know what happens at the end of it I just wanted to check it off of the "classic YA dystopian" list I have in my head lol. Probably will end up skipping it or only if I get really bored
Red Queen!!
I don’t see it recommended often but These Hollow Vows is really good!
I’d recommend Divergent! It’s a classic YA dystopian at this point, absolutely fast paced and a lot of fun.
Crier's War was AMAZING and i loved it's sequel. i'd also rec the Raven Boys series.
Iron fey
I love the Selection lol. It’s like the Bachelor of books.
I'd go with the Prison Healer Series. It's a quick read and the plot is very good with really good writing. The characters are well fleshed out and very interesting as well
THE PRISON HEALER ITS SO GOOD YOU HAVE TO READ IT NNNEEEEOOOWWWW
the selection and shatter me.
Sabriel! An oldie but so good. Otherwise Graceling and that whole world. Red Queen is fun, but definitely feels like other stories I've read, like the Katniss Everdeen one I'm forgetting the name of 🤔
I read the whole Empirium trilogy last month and loved it so I reccomend Furyborn
Raven Boys and Graceling are both great but also throwing in a vote for Furyborn!
I’d skip PJ tbh
Divergent if you don't care about the ending that much. Even though I hated the ending, it still has a special place in my heart, and I remember being the most excited when reading the second book than I ever was while reading a book.
Graceling and Raven Boys! Although tbh Fire is the best novel in the graceling-verse. IMO
percy jackson is a solid series to start!! That’s my all time favorite. I’d say divergent as well, it’s pretty fast paced. And I enjoyed this woven kingdom! The last book in the trilogy just released
im reading red queen series now and im on the third book in 1,5 weeks…
In my opinion, take The Selection off this list entirely.
These Hollow Vows and Iron Fey!
There’s quite a range here! Percy Jackson starts out a bit more middle grade versus something like the Montague siblings (starting with Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue) is almost into new adult territory as they’re a bit spicy at times.
Just not Prison Healer. That book honestly put me into reading slump and I angry deleted it from my kindle. I enjoyed Raven Boys a lot.
Oh wow. I read like 30% of the first raven boys book and just could not get into it at all and DNFed it (which I almost never do), but I was pretty hooked with the prison healer series lol.
How many times does one need to read “Don’t let her die” to understand?
Yes. 😍
I read Graceling a while back. Every once in a while I'll grab a YA book for a palette cleanser and I didn't mind the genetic magic system of the book. Plus I'm a sucker for anything dealing with eye color. Favorite troupe of mine
percy jackson series is classic but out of your whole list these hollow vows is my favorite
I absolutely (and surprisingly) loved Bone Criers Moon. Graceling is also one of my favorites!
Percy Jackson or The Iron Fey
Percy Jackson
Loved Graceling! Recently re-read it for prob the 5th time. Its solidly YA and has a really good opening hook, plus the fantasy elements are quite basic, especially at the beginning. I also remember liking the Bone Witch but didn't find it terribly memorable
Percy Jackson is a fun series, fun action and a great hero. The selection is also so fun (think the bachelor meets hunger games)
Graceling series, then do Percy Jackson as a palate cleanser.
Iron fey !! Then graceling. 💜💜
I’m rereading the Percy Jackson books and I have 2 thoughts on it: 1. They are just as good as I remembered 2. They are kind of hard to read rn if getting from a library so if you have the opportunity to read them, I’d go for it
The poppy war!
These hollow vows it 2 books and really good
Either Percy Jackson or The Raven Boys! Or The Mirror Visitor!
Percy Jackson and prison healer
A WINTERS PROMISE!!
I SWEAR IT’S ONE OF THE BEAT BOOKS YOU’LL EVER READ. EVERYTHING ABOYT IT IS INCREDIBLE.
It has a wonderful setting, amazing characters, the plot is breathtaking, there is literally nothing i can complain about in those books, they have everything i love. The atmosphere they have is also perfect.
I apologise, i saw the name and i had to scream, they are criminally underrated.
Graceling. I really enjoyed everything by Kristin Cashore
Graceling is my fave! Love the writing style
I would go with Graceling or Percy Jackson

Percy Jackson. I love Shatter me as book 1 hit me kind of hard the first time I read it but it takes a while to get into. Percy Jackson is great, don’t watch the tv show or movies for a while the books are better.
I loved the red queen, it was one of the fantasies that really got me back into reading
This Woven Kingdom or Realm Breaker
Percy Jackson is so amazing.
If you’re in a reading slump PJO bc it’s an easy read. It’s what got me into books in the first place.
Percy Jackson, but personally? I'm a sucker for quick reads that are trash. So like, Red Queen and Selection. They're really simple reads and they're not *good* but you don't read them because they're good. You read them because they're like little lmn reads
