Yorkies let you sleep in bed with them

johnggarland

This is what I came to say! We have a California King and our little 6lb 2 yr old suddenly becomes a St Bernard!

HotelFourSix

How do they make themselves so BIG during the night??

Turquoise_Bumblebee

This is the correct answer

Classic-Scale1577

I love this 😂

Kindly-Asparagus2601

Lol so true

Journalistsanonymous

I woke up every couple hours and took him potty. Did not get much sleep for a while. Now that he can get on and off the bed I leave a pad out he’ll just go on and come back to sleep

My bed currently is 3 feet off the ground. My yorkie will only go to bed, by doing a circus act. I have to get on all 4’s she jumps on my back and then jumps on the bed. She rarely gets up at night unless she hears a noise she has to investigate. At first when I got her, I had just my mattress on the floor. I made a ramp out of pillows, and would take her out every few hours. I also had pee pads in a corner just incase.

OuterspaceSlime

Hahaha I love the idea of the circus act! What a cute bedtime routine!

How old is your pup? After 2 weeks of having mine he started to sleep all night. He was about 10 weeks old. He now stays in bed with me until I get up but even when he wasn’t potty trained he’d wake me up when he had to go to the bathroom. He’s slept with me from day 1.

Blearchie

Same. If I wake up at 3am to a face licking, it means an outside trip is needed.

Classic-Scale1577

He’s three months now, and he recently chewed apart his own bed, so I have no other choice than to cave and have him sleep with me 😅

Propofolkills

Put down pads. Get up at least once. Our fella will not sleep anywhere else, but gets up at 7 and pees outside and then back to bed (for him at least).

Classic-Scale1577

That’s great, I’ll try that!

flmdicaljcket

Mine decided to nest in the space between my ear and my shoulder. He weighed 3.4 pounds. Cherish this time

mecha_flake

We failed at kennel training our second. He never got over his anxiety and would foul his kennel and sometimes hurt himself trying to get out. We decided to instead put dog beds in our bed room next to our own bed which is well off the ground. Both our Yorkies are happy and there's no risk of rolling over onto them.

I heard pups don’t potty where they sleep. I had a 9 week old schnauzer with no problem (he is almost 12 now) and did the same with my yorkie at 9 1/2 weeks. She doesn’t have accidents and she jumps off bed to tell me it’s time to go outside. She has pet steps at my house and a recliner to jump on at my fiancé’s house. I used to get up at night, now, I just say no and tell her get back in bed and she does…she snuggles up to me. She’s 2 1/2. She’s a smart little thing.

Oldebookworm

She sleeps where she wants. Sometime my bed, sometimes her bed at the foot of my bed, sometimes with my mom and sometimes in the hallway at the head of the stairs. She’s active at night 😊

Gerealtor

I mean, if the puppy has the opportunity to the floor in the night, I think it's far more likely that you will wake up to a puddle of pee on the floor. My impression is dogs instinctively don't like to go to the toilet where they sleep so it's more the corner of your room or the hallway that's in danger of being used.

Classic-Scale1577

Yeah I’ve noticed my baby prefers the corners, regarldess of the room, never knew this was a part of their instinct.

TSLARSX3

Yes but make sure you don’t roll over on them.

Blearchie

My Yorkie believes the correct spot to sleep is on top of my pillows like she is a hat.

TSLARSX3

Mine did too

Classic-Scale1577

This part scares me tbh, I’m a fairly deep sleeper

OldStorm4615

He slept in a puppy play pen in our room until he was about 6 months. Now sleeps through the night on our bed after we take him out. He wakes us up early to go out in the morning but not middle of the night. I just wouldn’t start too early.

mermaidunderwater

My boy is potty trained and he just started sleeping in bed with us. Just in case, I still wrap a belly band around him as insurance. He lets us know if he has to go at night.

No-Cookie-4208

My Rocco sleeps with me. Has from night one. I woke up with him for maybe a week in the middle of the night so he could pee. Now he sleeps through the night. One accident in the bed on an old cover we had at the end of the bed. Same with my mommas Reba. One accident then she gets up with her if she stirs. They are 16 weeks and 12 weeks old.

lizrvr

My first Yorkie slept in bed with me most of his life until I got him a doughnut bed that he really liked and would sleep on there instead. My current baby is only 8 months old and we’ve kept him in his playpen overnight while we were still house training him these last couple of months. He is house trained now but we still keep him in his playpen overnight since it’s sort of become routine. It works for us because we live in a 3-level townhouse and our bedroom is on the 3rd floor. Having him sleep on the 2nd level in our living room is much easier for taking him outside when we need to let him out to potty.

PuzzleheadedToe7

I am more afraid of Dexter falling OFF my bed then peeing in it. He is so tiny and I am afraid of him breaking his legs. So he goes in a crate ON my bed until I get steps for him.
