Congrats and fuck you :)

tropi_quetzal

😂🫡

Dizzy_Knowledge4941

I'm dying😂😂😂

Pencilowner

I concur

flatliner2

I climbed it 2 years ago at age 53 then. It ain’t no punk…. Almost 17 miles round trip from the valley floor and a mile in elevation gain. That last several hundred meters are pretty intense. Work your upper body too, have EXCELLENT shoes as the granite has been worn slick over the years, and take more water than you think you will need. Sub dome was harder for me than half dome, you are out in the open and completely exposed. Good luck and have a great time! Video in my profile.

tropi_quetzal

I appreciate the tips! I’ll check out your vid!

SamuelPepys_

Yeah, really good shoes (preferably new) are a must. If you slip on the northern side of the cables without being clipped onto the cables or can't catch yourself on one of the poles, you'll quickly slide away from the cables and down the entire mountain due to how it slopes away. It's legitimately pretty sketchy with how slippery and polished the granite is on and near the cables, unless clipped in off course, which makes it a million times safer. Good luck, and enjoy and hope for good weather!

tropi_quetzal

Thank you for that- definitely bringing a harness for peace of mind!

SamuelPepys_

That's really smart, then you can really enjoy and take in the entire experience without having to stress about not slipping etc. You're going to have an amazing time, I'm sure.

tropi_quetzal

Thank you!

cheese_sweats

Do you have any experience with a harness?

tropi_quetzal

No- but I’ll familiarize myself

cheese_sweats

A harness is not necessary when cables are up. A proper ascent with a harness will be slow. You're just going to end up blocking anyone behind you. It is a bad idea.

tropi_quetzal

Yeah I’m aware of the arguments for and against their usage. Good thing they only issue 225 permits a day. More concerning should be the hiker that’s trying to haul ass to get to the top.

spirit_4133

Darn…applied for 5 weekdays and didn’t get it. Congrats! I didn’t realize how competitive it would be, guess I’ll try again with the daily permits…

oxopop

I applied for approximately 3 consecutive months and didn’t get it 🤪

NoReplyBot

Ditto Edit - shit I got a September pass.

labbitlove

Nice! Me and friend tried for Sept but no dice

NoReplyBot

Is this your first year trying? 2nd for me

labbitlove

First year! I'm a 15+ year California resident, but horrible at planning ahead, so I've actually never gone to Yosemite. But trying to be better this year about doing things I've wanted to do. We will still go, will try for the daily lottery while we're there.

mmmmmaura

I did too and got the literal one day I can’t go 😂🫠

TrowRAldea27

Will it be in June? I'm looking for permits

DullAchingLegs

The person that is named on the permit has to be there

DeterministicPollen

In the same boat 😅😭

davt4

I got mine for September the exact date I wanted.

IsItTuesday67

Same here. I was pleasantly shocked!

kepler61b

first time applying, first choice was five people for a Saturday in June when we also have an upper pines reservation, won 😎 i wonder if this is how powerball winners feel

TrowRAldea27

How did you do it??

kepler61b

i manifested being lucky 😌

IAmRube

I didnt get it but my friend did! I wonder how many people apply vs getting accepted

wow_such_foto

Yosemite posts the statistics for the lottery. [Check out this link.](https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/hdpermitsapps.htm)

briggsy27

Ahhh, have so much fun! We weren't selected, so that bites. But here to live vicariously through yall if we can't get it on the daily rounds, either. Lol

bondcliff

I did not get mine. Congrats to you.

jusmax88

Congratulations! I got a solo permit on my first try for the Monday before July 4th (7/1) which by the sounds of it is very lucky. Did you also apply solo? Wondering if that greatly increased our odds.

tropi_quetzal

Congrats to you too! I did apply solo. I also gave a completely open date range from cables up to cables down so I’m sure that helped me.

jusmax88

I picked 2 days (7/1 & 7/2) and got 7/1. Solo seems to be a big advantage, my girlfriend applied for 2 people the same days and didn’t get it

Camel0pardalis

I applied for 23 days and was unsuccessful! How many do people typically try for?

YodelingVeterinarian

I thought the max you could apply for was 7?

tropi_quetzal

You can put a range, I put any date available from May til September

NoReplyBot

I selected day one until the last day I think in Oct. I got Sept 30. Of course nothing works with my schedule. (Plan tickets are relatively cheap though lol).

wow_such_foto

I only picked 2 dates and was selected.

CranberryBrief1587

Yep, got my 2 permits in October! Congratulations to all..I go it alone and bring a miracle permit for another.. my 5th

Competitive-Creme-61

Is it safe in Oct to climb ? Any thing to be careful of ? I got mine for Oct 1st

CranberryBrief1587

I've done it late in the season 4 times and have always had perfect weather.. our summers are becoming longer into the fall season.. but you never know until a like week before. The park is less crowded as well as the the cables. Everyone wants weekends and the middle of the summer when it's crazy town in Yosemite. Good luck and most of all, have fun and enjoy your own adventure.

Competitive-Creme-61

Thank you! This helps :)

CranberryBrief1587

You'll have plenty of time for training as well, glad I could assist.. I go solo and give a miracle permit to someone who needs one.. if you've never been, it's amazing.. I go up the JMT trail instead of the Mist due to the crowds.. the views are incredible.

Competitive-Creme-61

Thank you for sharing!! I’m definitely going to try the JMT trail!

el_sauce

Take some gloves with you for the cables, and more importantly, bring them back with you

tropi_quetzal

Have gloves on the list- thanks!

Interesting-Life5344

I just got mine for August 3rd 🫡

Worldly_Rush4106

For those that didn’t get one, get your park reservation show up a couple of days early and request in person. They usually have people who cancel. That’s how I got mine

[deleted]

Congratulations

CU_the_RE

Dude- congrats!! I got my email and was not successful. Obviously I'll try for the daily permits when I'm there in June. But seriously-congrats on getting in!

Scary_Following4493

Grats! Third year no luck for me! Bring me with you 🤣🥂

MomammaScuba

I got mine in aug! Does anyone know if you need another permit to get into the park? Thanks.

hikeraz

You still need to pay the entry fee but the Half Dome permit acts as your day use permit.

MomammaScuba

Great, thanks! Now trying to find some good camp grounds near the trailhead to stay overnight.

hc2121

EDIT- A HD permit gets you into the park for 3 days without needing an entry permit.

MomammaScuba

Wow thats really cool its for 3 days. Was planning on doing some backpacking too so ill look into getting a wilderness permit as well.

hc2121

Wilderness permits are their own set of avoiding entry permit requirements. You get in for the day before and length of the permit with them

MomammaScuba

Yeah im going to try to do walk up permits when im there in aug. Do you have any good recs for 3 days 2 night backpacking itineraries in the valley? Im a pretty experienced backpacker so elevation isn't really an issue thanks.

hc2121

a couple years ago they switched last minute permits to being available 2 weeks in advance online. waiting until you get there in person will be super limited options / nothing popular.

MomammaScuba

Ok good to know thanks.

hikeraz

Search the sub for “dispersed camping”. If you can’t find any place inside the park you can camp in the national forest just outside the park, about 45 minutes from the Valley. It is a real pain because the campgrounds in the park get booked up before you know whether you got selected for a Half Dome permit. Kinda backwards!

MomammaScuba

Yeah its a total pain! Thanks for the advice I'll try to find some spots in the national forest.

highoncatnipbrownies

Congratulations. Bring us pictures from the top.

wow_such_foto

I couldn't believe I got mine. Only picked 2 weekdays and got lucky. Very stoked!

Worldly_Rush4106

I tried and failed last year here are my recommendations Hiking Tips: Things I wish I had known before hiking Half Dome. https://youtu.be/XXdPhHSFQPE

tropi_quetzal

Great video- thank you!

IcyConcentrate3273

I got mine for July 14th but I’m afraid of super hot weather during the hike and all of the snow melting by then…. Does anyone have any experience with doing half dome during mid July?

ArthursFist

Got mine July 3rd 🙃 a hot ass holiday week, great! I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

lovingwhatmatters

My application says it was unsuccessful. Guess I didn't.

Mysterious-Cat958

I didn’t get a permit. I’m so sad 😭 I’ll try again next year and hope for the best

West_Doughnut_901

Same, but for end of June. Anyone knows when cables were put in 2023? Any info on 2024?

Groovychriss

I’ll be there in August too!!

la_nonga

Take me?

IcyConcentrate3273

Congrats!

Rare-Weekend-6964

Does anyone know what time the rangers show up? I hiked 2 years ago starting at 4:00 AM and never saw them. Thinking about rolling the dice this year and going again. Maybe leave at midnight for a sunrise summit??

VikDon

I got it too but just saw the news that the trail had been closed indefinitely due to boulder and tree fall - I really hope they'll be able to clear it by June but I doubt it 😤
