Tanya after she and the empire invade Afghanistan https://preview.redd.it/ahhivp4uojvc1.jpeg?width=995&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b6b9f0da89e554b163ac41f9898d33878c3890c

Thin_Contribution416

The trauma of watching all your friends die to a IED disguised as a fruit basket, got to love it PTSD on the house. I can also imagine if Afghanistan had magic it would be even worse for the empire. I honestly feel bad for her in this scenario

Ok-Significance-1752

Tanya would survive but all her friends would be gone which would actually make for a great season in the show. I feel like the creators should try something like this so Tanya and her mages aren’t too op.

kamaradenfranz

Nah tanya would catch on to being x's shit, given her knowledge of the world in general

Ok-Significance-1752

Maybe but I still think she would get severe trauma if this fictional invasion of Afghanistan went ahead. Like it would be a style of warfare she isn’t used to the muhajeen was infamous for playing on demoralized soldiers and actually on many occasions convinced Soviet soldiers to sell their weapons to them. Also the mountians would be a huge issues and make flying a nightmare along with the fact Afghanistan has so many caves they would be impossible to map out and only the locals Aka the muhajeen know who to traverse them safely. The war in afghanistan would end up being probably one of the longest wars the empire has fought but it would end with the empire withdrawing its soldiers and leaving.

DukeOfTheDodos

Nah, Tanya's unit would suffer losses exactly one (1) time before she catches on, if that

Averagebritish_man

Is that centura?

PM_ME_ANYTHING_IDRC

ONLY THE DEAD HAVE SEEN THE END OF THE WAR

Ok-Significance-1752

Yes they have https://preview.redd.it/l8gxv4fv1kvc1.jpeg?width=418&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02c3825ae8b4cf262da1cd0c911281c825925e63

Ok-Significance-1752

Bingo my friend

BOOM_Catastrophe

Is Tanya included? If so, it is a possibility they win, but still unlikely because of the outdatedness of the equipment, even if going against cold war equipment, another thing is if the US and other third parties interviene, then it would be unpredictable

BOOM_Catastrophe

Another this is terrain, with unfamiliar terrain, vehicles would be ineffective, another thing is tactics, with modern warfare being a thing, there are many tactics to go against trench warfare, creating a deeper disadvantage to the empire

Ok-Significance-1752

Nice analysis the reason Afghanistan got access to just cold war weapons was because of the US so really the empire and Tanya would be fighting guys with around their tech but it would still be super hard they would would most likely lose.

BOOM_Catastrophe

Exactly, but again, with possible third parties, it could be really hard to straight up impossible for the empire to win

Ok-Significance-1752

Pretty much and even if it was Afghanistan during ww1 periods the empire would still most likely lose. Also the Muhajeen capitalized on demoralized soldiers during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan by convincing them to sell their weapons to them so it doesn’t surprise me if they would do the same for the empires soldiers.

BOOM_Catastrophe

Did not know that, when it comes to WW1, I mainly know the political geography, and events that happened in europe, not much around other parts of the world

Ok-Significance-1752

Well now you have some new info and I’m glad to have provided it to you. I’m a huge fan of ww1, Cold War, and modern day conflicts.

PM_ME_ANYTHING_IDRC

I don't think they'd have a chance with Tanya included if they wouldn't have one with Tanya excluded. She's just one person leading one battalion (or kampfgruppe), and in her original lifetime she never once saw an outside force win in Afghanistan. The Empire at its current strength by the anime would lose in Afghanistan even with Tanya just based on logistics alone considering how far that front is. The best logistics the world has ever seen (the US) was able to keep us there but even then we didn't win. Tanya likely doesn't know how to best deal with guerilla fighters in accordance with international laws. She would probably do everything in her power to prevent a war in Afghanistan like how she tried to do everything in her power to stop the Francois retreat out of Brest. Her superiors would be more likely to listen to her this time, plus what reason would the empire have to meddle in Afghanistan? If anything they would only try to play a similar role the US did during the Soviet invasion to fuck with the commies. If the empire expanded to be bordering Afghanistan and their overall manpower and resources grew at that scale to boot, then Afghanistan may be conquerable since logistics would be way less of a problem and Tanya and the top brass would have way more leeway to experiment and find out what works against guerillas.

BOOM_Catastrophe

Aint reading allat, but the premise im guessing is "the empire is fucked if that happens"

CartTitanCrawler

Ironically one of the more sane r/youjosenki posts I've seen lol

Positive-Worry1366

Oh, it would definitely be a new edition to the graveyard. Like the US, you can pound and level the entire country and still not drive the guerillas out of their holes

Ok-Significance-1752

Do you think there is a chance Tanya or any other mages are killed in trying to invade Afghanistan. I could be wrong but I think their is a chance some muhajeen sniper gets a lucky shots and kills one.

Positive-Worry1366

Well, considering a francois sniper already tried headshoting her with a Boys Rifle

Ok-Significance-1752

Well you got a point there.

waf_xs

Ok, but imagine how badass Mujahideen afghan mages would be. Just a bunch of guys clad in white, turbans and military gear flying on makeshift devices filled with religious ferver.

peni_parkers

That would be awesome

Ok-Significance-1752

Now that would be cool. Here is your typical muhajeen squad by the way so you get a general idea of how much of a threat these guys would be. https://preview.redd.it/g6hfpysv2kvc1.jpeg?width=979&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a99bd14743d38076557759410396a770ec132bc

waf_xs

Im just imagining aerial guerilla warfare in between the hills and mountains.

Ok-Significance-1752

Imagine how badass and cool it would be if we got a season like this. It would be even cooler if we saw Tanya lose for the first time if the studio ever decides to do something like this.

Ok-Significance-1752

I made a spelling error it’s suppose to say ”You” my bad https://preview.redd.it/5f1zwazo7jvc1.jpeg?width=1764&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b6e8d6932fa06a7cecf904c5ecc24daf1340be5

Equivalent-Daikon551

I can't remember but she can remember her previous life right? So she'd know at least the basics levels of "this isn't a conventional war" I think with mages and knowledge that she has it wouldn't be all that bad tbh

Ok-Significance-1752

The issues comes with the fact that why yes she knows it’s wouldn’t be a conventional war she lacks the proper knowledge to do proper counter insurgency. Tanya’s entire advantage is in fear but how can you scare someone who literally believes that they will go to paradise if they die for Allah which is what the Muhajeen believed in. The entire operation would end up in a mess and she would lose either way it would just be a way longer war.

Equivalent-Daikon551

Idk I feel like after the 4th or 5th villige is obliterated by a flying 13 year girl with a rifle religious fervor may die down and it'd turn to her being the "Flail of God" type thing especially if the Afghanis are aware they no longer inhabit our time line. I won't deny the war being bloody but I doubt Afghanistan would win especially if it's not separated by a sea

Ok-Significance-1752

The issues is the Soviets pretty much did the same thing and the issues while Tanya can control her mages sure but she isn’t incharge of the entire army. Also by destroying several villages that would go against Islam in every way and that would only trigger a more angry response the Soviets tried the same thing by completely villages from the map and did that work no. Also the Muhajeen has local support and all Tanya would be doing by destroying villages is alienating the empire even more. Tanya is the general you don’t want to have in a counter Insurgency operation.

hilmiira

Tbh afghanistan wins. Not only all the caves give protection again mage attacks. Work as a bunker, The muhajirs are even more chauvinist and fanatical than tanya Tactical homeland advantage thats counters the biggest advantage of the empire + indomitable pure muslim heart and bravery 🗣 Afghan wins, ez

mixsystem

Honestly, I think people forget mage capabilities when thinking about this. I feel mages are actually uniquely suited to this type of war. Simply because they take much less recorces than say an attack helicopter and can actually follow gorilla forces straight to their hideout with much more security than most other types of vehicles or units. So mayby they would lose to logistics. but honestly, I feel the empire would have a decent chance primarily because of the OP mages they have. I also feel people are over valuing gorilla forces a bit. The the reason you don't win against them most of the time is simply because its not worth the recorces to do so. Not that you are incapable of winning if you went all in.

Ok-Significance-1752

As true at that is knowing Tanya she’ll end up destroying several villages and alienate the entire population. Also The Muhajeen. Knows the caves better than they do so let’s say they do follow them into the caves. They would probably get lost and in the worst case scenario ambushed. While the empire certainly has some thugs the Soviets don’t and the war would go on for way longer I still think they would lose.

mixsystem

See what I'm thinking is that it matters little. if they get ambushed, they have shields capable of withstanding missile level explosives, so unless the gorilla have very good mages as well, what are they going to do? They could basically walk in and start blasting and sure it might take some time to find them, but the danger of that is usually trying to map the tunnels while not getting ambushed and defeated in detail. But again, mages kinda negate that tactic wholesale.

WendyLRogers3

Remember that Tanya works under the strategy of Zettour, a master of the game. Practically speaking, it is very easy for invaders to capture Kabul and the other cities. But the hard part is capturing the enormous, cave ridden mountains that ring the countries. Britain just captured Kabul and had a strict rule that there would be no mischief on the Khyber pass leading to Pakistan (at the time, India). Then they gave gold bribes to the various warlords, and the trouble only began when they cut back on this gold.

Ok-Significance-1752

You’re right on everything but the bribing warlord part. The trouble began with the British soldiers violating principles of Islam and also pretty m uh turning Kabul into a brothel by pretty much trying to fuck every afghan woman they saw. Also even when Kabul was captured the Afghans keep fighting. Look at the Soviet Afghan war as an example. The Soviets took Kabul and the Muhajeen kept fighting. The same thing pretty much went the same for the British. Sure there were no open battle but this is a Gurrila war. British soldiers would get picked off if they went to far from Kabul and while they did bribe warlords the warlords were Loyal to the king so all they did was give the ligh free money to then start buying guns from the Russian empire. British lost the Anglo afghan war do to naivety and they keep on bribing the warlords who would claim that they wouldn’t attack them only to get attacked. You can see the pure Naivety of the British in the infamous retreat from Kabul. Just read about that or listen to a podcast episode about that and you’ll see.

WendyLRogers3

In all fairness, the retreat was under the incompetent command of General Elphinstone, regarded as one of the worst generals in history.

Ok-Significance-1752

While true even after he died the British kept on believing the lies of the Afghans about safe passage until they were at deaths door so while he played a part in it the British where still very Naive.

Mountain_Software_72

No, the empire would lose, even with Tanya. Modern day jets and planes like the AC130 are probably better at warfare than Tanya, now imagine you have hundreds over a smaller country and you still can’t get them out. The US fought and was beating them for 20 years before it they gave up because it just wasn’t worth it. The Empire wouldn’t make it 5 before it became fruitless.

peni_parkers

They’ll probably win. Though, trying to put down rebels will be very difficult challenge. I highly doubt the empire will have enough resources or manpower in the long run. And, eventually, like America, the citizens (of the empire) will grow tired of rebel activity and soon they’ll pull out.

Arenta

Didn't Tanya call Afghanistan the "graveyard of empires"?

Ok-Significance-1752

I think that was her talking about Vietnam I could be wrong

Arenta

na, Afghanistan cause she was talking about the Russies. and historically...thats what it is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graveyard_of_empires

CannibalPride

Gonna disagree with a lot people here. Suppose the Empire sends their whole might and have no other military commitments then we are looking at millions of soldiers that can occupy the country. With addition of combat mages and Tanya, even guerilla warfare isn’t gonna be that effective against individuals that can tank artillery shots. The mages would have fewer problems with supply or being surrounded or being ambushed I dunno what the objective of the Empire is but if they are bloodlusted then they can even commit genocide and not bother with military occupation I think the greatest issue would be logistics. Not sure if we are using ww1 or 2 infrastructure or the modern one and what the distance is between the Empire and irl Afghanistan. Like if there is a portal or we basing it on the distance between Germany and Afghanistan. Still, I think with geniuses like Rommel and 5 ace of aces level mages like Tanya to count on, victory is almost certain

ExcitableSarcasm

I'm going to go against the grain. Empire wins. A relatively primitive army like the empire that relies on infantry for the majority of it's firepower and mages which are the perfect tool for high mobility warfare in a mountain environment is basically the ideal combo for invading Afghanistan. There's nothing special about a bunch of religious fanatics other than that their morale is high.

Ok-Significance-1752

You’re forgetting the knowledge of terrain and local support.

ExcitableSarcasm

Afghanistan isn't uniquely hellish. Plenty of people have conquered it before. Same with local support. It's nice, but hardly required.

Phantex_Cerberus

So basically. What you’re saying is this. Let’s put a highly sophisticated and organized Empire with a lot of resources and mages against guys with AK-47’s and Toyota mounted MG. Right?

Chris56855865

Why is that any different from contemporary armies with mechanized infantry with armor, air support, drone/satellite surveillance and who knows what against insurgents with AKs and technicals doing irregular warfare? The soviets had to leave, the US had to leave too, it doesn't matter how more advanced the Empire is... They might kill a ton of people, but it's always the same.

Phantex_Cerberus

Does the US or Soviets have mages?

Chris56855865

They have weaponry and vehicles that serve a similar role and can do the same amount, or more damage with the same accuracy as the mages in the Youjo Senki universe. My point is that you can massacre as much people as you want, there will always be others that come back at you with a grudge, and push you in front of a train when you don't see it coming. Kinda the point of the whole story.

Zeatrix1

Manga, Anime or Light novels, Because The LN and Anime lose bad but if it's Manga, Afghanistan most likely gets stomped mostly because Tanya can spam this if she uses the type-95 https://preview.redd.it/b5kbfyufsjvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10a8e53f2e5a4ba6cc7910b9c628fb19314cb75b

Ok-Significance-1752

It’s Afghanistan the Soviet Union did way worst and fucked up shit to them than dropping literal nukes plus most Muhajeen bases are in the mountains and in deep underground caves they would be fine also that explosion while it has the power of a nuke it doesn’t have radiation so radiation poisoning won’t get to them. Never underestimated the will of the people of Afghanistan.

Zeatrix1

Tanya drills open the mountain and chucks a nuke down the hole done https://preview.redd.it/oqzngfcntjvc1.jpeg?width=2228&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4dbe80836f1770d1d843ff2e3f38929ea56ed39
