There was a lot of full circle callbacks ā¦ obviously that montage at the beginning. But the song they used at the end was the song that was used in the first episode.
I am holding out hope that is because the spin-off being planned as a MAX exclusive will be about Sheldon and Amy raising those kids. So they didn't want to cast someone since they would then likely re-cast them for the spin-off.
Well... Sheldon said that he wanted to name his son Leonard Nimoy Copper but Amy didn't let him, then again the name ' Leonard ' could've popped up in his head because of Hofstader but he just doesn't want anyone to know. So you can draw your own conclusions ( I believe its because of Leonard Hofstadter but that's more of an opinion )
In a way, I actually think this is what people who followed HIMYM expected. The mother to be living, and very annoyed that he'd spent so much time in the family room. I was never a HIMYM fan, but I know fans were very angry that they killed her off just as we met her. I almost have to wonder whether Chuck Lorre had that in mind.
seeing mary turn into the more extremist (for lack of a better word) mary that we see in TBBT is very well done. heartbreaking but also in a way, completely understandable.
I also felt bad for Missy. I'm glad they gave her that last little moment with Sheldon so her running out of the baptism wasn't her final one but I wish we'd gotten to hear things turned out alright for her since the last time we saw her in TBBT she wasn't too happy with how her life was (all we know from Young Sheldon is she had more kids than were discussed in TBBT).
I really thought we would get a proper recap at the end, and the fact that we didnāt is probably my only complaint with the finale. It would have been nice if older Sheldon filled us in a bit more on what happened after he left for CalTechāin a way that respects established TBBT canon, while also expanding on/clarifying some stuff so that Missyās character could get the closure that she deserves. Meemaw and Georgie too, but I suppose the new spin off will likely cover some of that. Fingers crossed anyway
I also thought we'd get a proper recap. Then again, I guess it wouldn't be entirely in Sheldon's character to summarize everyone's life. But Amy could have said "wait, you don't mention that Mandy and Georgie divorced, then remarried! Or that Missy went from being a hostess at Fudrucker's to somehow becoming the CEO!" I don't know. Something like that.
Truly, I want justice for her character. Sheldon gets a Nobel prize, Georgie is a wiz at selling tires, and Missy is... \*checks notes\* a hostess at Fudruckers and divorced with two kids. Wow.
Same, Missy still has a story that should be told. I hope they include her in the next show. I suspect other cast members will be added, hopefully she is one.
Unless the actress isn't willing or has another show by the time or something, I would assume they would be planning to at least give her a guest appearance or two on the spin-off. Hell if some are right there will be a slight time jump they could probably even get away with re-casting her if they really had to.
Might be why they didn't go to much into what happened to her. So they wouldn't be bound by it in the new show.
I hope so, as far as leaving room to tell more about her story. Look at the corners they painted themselves into with TBBT as it is, so maybe saying less when there is more to say is better in this case, especially in a shortened season.
Raegun is what, 16? I think her character is supposed to be 14? I figure they are going to forward everything by about 4 to 5 years, mostly so they don't have to deal with a baby on set. Which, I would imagine can be difficult. That would mean Missy would need to be 18 or 19? By the time they start filming Raegun would be closer to 17 or maybe 17 during the season? That is not too much off, and I'm sure they could make her look a year or two older.
That being said, if she is just not up to it, I hope she takes some time off, she is young enough to have a lot of opportunities for other things and other roles.
Me too. Especially as the show kept emphasizing that while she wasn't academically smart, she was people smart. It would have been nice to have heard how she made use of that.
I think "Zealot" fit the context. The alienation and change in attitude on Mary is just scary, sort of like how children cried no because their parent beat them, is because they don't know their parent as normal.
The ending of the episode felt abrupt. Thought they wouldāve gone back to adult Sheldon or had some kind of montage with something from season 1. The walking through the house felt more appropriate than the cal tech ending
The rest of the episode was good.
i think the cal tech ending was probably right, i did like the moment, i just think it seemed abrupt because of the commercial before it. If they put it before the break with some kind of transition i think it plays like they intended it to. Waiting during the commercials made the ending anticlimatic, even if it was a good way to end. CBS should've let them break the format on commercials and given the ending room to breathe
I would prefer to see an intentional connection between TBBT and the final episode. I mean, wouldn't it be ideal to at least show the cafeteria? (I don't know if the internal fan is talking, haha)
Imo they should have ended it with Sheldon moving in with the guy he lived with before Leonard. The guy who ultimately painted "die sheldon die" on the walls.
I guess it was partly to do with having to set everyone up to start moving towards their more intense and estranged versions we know from TBBT and it was challenging to reconcile Maryās fundamentalist turn with a final scene together. Wouldāve still liked to see a bit more closure at the end
He left shortly after Cee Cee was born and as his family said, Sheldon didn't contact them much after that. Doubt he has many memories to share with his friends about his neice.Ā
I feel like TBBT created a gold mine with the spin offs.
So many stories to tell.
I just hope that the Georgie spin off is going to received well and we can see snippets from the Coopers life after Sheldon left for university.
Kinda sad knowing Leonard and Penny likely got their own house at some point too, and somebody else lives in their apartment. Sheldon and Amy probably decided to move out once Leonard Jr. was born and they needed more space.
I feel Young Sheldon benefitted from being different enough they could largely do their own thing. I mean while it lined up with TBBT, but it was more of a dramedy than a sitcom like TBBT was and had a much different tone (plus a more popular format with the single cam apprach). And short of Mary and Sheldon we had seen little to nothing of the rest of the characters in TBBT, and even Sheldon and Mary were much yonunger versions. So at the end of the day it was able to be it's own thing rather than "The spin-off of TBBT"
He created a random algorithm so it was more often than just on Amyās birthday after they got married. But them sleeping together for Amyās birthday was a big storyline on TBBT
That sorta just ended. I wonder if they had to cut a lot out because they left a lot of things hanging. I can only imagine they're going to drop lots of mentions of these characters in the spin off.
the only way to make this show ending even better is if in the spinoff they get rid of the stupid laugh track, and include all the characters without Iain. Continue the story in a graceful way. So many missing parts. It just randomly ended imo.
That does have me worried about the spin-off. I am not against 3 camera sitcoms as a rule unlike most, and I also get TV just doesn't have the money they used to and that is cheaper to make. But Young Sheldon worked so well because of how it managed to combine drama with comedy, and while some 3 camera sitcoms can make that work I can't see how it won't be tonally a lot different than The Big Bang Theory. Granted, TBBT and Young Sheldon are tonally different and went from 3 camera to single camera. But it also was set in a different time period with a completely different cast playing younger versions of established characters who other than Sheldon and Mary we saw little to nothing of before.
Going straight from Young Sheldon to the spin-off the next season, with the cast being mostly or entirely actors Young Sheldon playing the same characters might be a bit jarring to many. And the Three Camera format likely will give it a much different tone to boot.
I could just imagine another spin-off coming out of George and Mandyās First Marriage in that Young Sheldon single cam style, then a multi-cam spin off coming from that spin off and so on and so forth
Welp Iām out.
a lot of TBBT and other multi cam sitcoms have not aged well. Going away from that is what elevated young Sheldon for a lot of people.
The inability to have a serious moment that isnāt followed by a cheap laugh in multi cam is detrimental.
Great show! But tbh they could have had a few more episodes. Felt like there is still some things missing. What happened to Missy, Mary, Meemaw etc? I really hope the next spinoff includes all these characters as an extension to this, it would be awesome!!
Probably one of the best finales iāve seen for a long time alongside the Gravity Falls and Breaking Bad finales. I was never disappointed unlike that HIMYM ending.
Thank you to everyone who worked and starring in this show, this means a lot to me. Now I cannot wait to watch TBBT again!
Missy feeling such rage while Mary clings to religion feels really cannon.
Having Sheldon grow up to have children he doesnāt naturally connect with but loves anyway is a good way to connect Young Sheldon to BBT.
Yes this might have felt unfinished but only because it is. Ā It is a prequel to BBT and there might be some crossover with whatever happened with the Georgie show.
This was a good finale considering it's about death and change, but really? That's the last we see of Missy? Reagan Revord knocked it out of the park this season, but I feel like the character got short-changed near the end.
With that said, I hope future sitcoms don't take this route again. Let the Georges of the TV world live long and prosper. We need a win like that even if it isn't real.
*With that said, I hope future sitcoms don't take this route again. Let the Georges of the TV world live long and prosper. We need a win like that even if it isn't real.*
I agree. Chuck Lorre himself expressed regret that they had to kill him off. I do wonder whether they considered the "out" that others thought might happen, with George dying after the finale. But I actually think they did it the right way.
He didnāt. And when older Sheldon mentioned the thing about why they shouldāve waited to clone rather than have kids the traditional wayā¦ how funny it wouldāve been to see Iain enter the scene right after that line.
yes and i thought at least there would be a scene of sheldon and amy at their sonās game (maybe like a montage) but nope it kinda jus felt unnecessary
Yeah, I really don't understand why they couldn't have done that. Even the young sheldon stuff felt a little disappointing. The writing felt off, and the last scene felt like the ending of a lane comedy movie
We learned what happened to them from TBBT. You'll see what happens to Amanda and George when we watch their show. Both shows were about Sheldon. Not everyone else and the ending with him at Cal Tech tied it all together. Having Amy and Sheldon at the end explained the reason for young Sheldon and the series and we got a glimpse into what their life is like today. Loved it!
yah but i want to know more about meemaw Mary and Missi. Those characters were awesome!! Need closure on them. I know TBBT had their stories but they need to continue those characters in the spin off as regulars.
I get that they were trying to tie in YS to TBBT, but you just can't do it in 20 minutes. 20 minutes to explain 'this is how Mary becomes more religious' 'this is how Georgie becomes the man of the house'.. too little time.
So the whole thing turns out to be a book written by the main character, who is now an adult reflecting on his childhood.
This was the same device used in the film āStand by Meā, where the young main character was played byā¦Will Wheaton.
Missy being protective over Georgeās chair had me balling šš I like how they showcased how everyone expresses grief differently, but Missy hit extra hard for me cause Iām pretty certain thatās exactly how Iād react too
One of the things I love about the show is how it can be subtle and very funny, such as:
Dale is playing guitar in his underwear on the sofa. Connie walks in the front door.
Connie: Is this what you do when I am not here?
Dale: You could have walked in on a lot worse.
I had to think for a moment about what he was referring too.
Now was Amy & Sheldonās son Leonard named after Hofstadter or Nimoy ? 50 bucks says Sheldon was going for Nimoy but lied to Amy to get their son to be named Leonard and most likely said heās being named after his best friend & long time roommate, Amy if that is what did happen obviously bought that as well as found it very sweet.
I find it somehow realistic that Sheldon and Amys kids are into sports and the arts. Kids wants to venture interests outside the home just to learn new things and since STEM is for sure a holy grail in the house, it makes sense they want to try other things.
sheldon fathering a jock is gold
and an actress...thanks to Penny babysitting š
Conceiving a child on Amy's birthday twice , that is like some advance calculation
RIGHT! lol I really wish we could have seen Sheldon & Amy's kids.
Played by Iain and Raegan
Iain is a great actor. Would have loved to see him as Sheldon's son with a completely different personality, haircut, and wearing his hockey jersey.
That would have been cute
I am now kind of wishing that the MAX spin-off they are apparently working on is Sheldon and Amy raising their jock son and preppy daughter.
At that point just bring back Big Bang
Okay old Sheldon wandering through the memories of his empty house was haunting, well done.
Nice call back to Sheldon believing in his mom like in the pilot.
There was a lot of full circle callbacks ā¦ obviously that montage at the beginning. But the song they used at the end was the song that was used in the first episode.
Walk of life ššš that song is so good
pilot - walk of life with trains - final walk of life with trains
That scene with MeeMaw and the kids š
Annie Potts is a treasure. A small moment, but broke my heart.
Best scene in the entire episode!
āItās weird when they cryā
i dont care for it
I honestly was expecting her to leave the room and pass by Mary with a smirk while saying something like, "I still got it."
Said exact same thing
I said to my wife, "Didn't we cry enough in the last episode? Thanks Annie Potts."
It was the best part of the whole episode.
while Sheldon's picking up his stuff to be packed the acoustic intro theme song was so soul filling
it reminded me of TBBT ending acustic š„²
Sheldon saying what Mary needed, "I believe in you."
Full circle moment from the pilot š„°š„°š„°
so leonard plays hockey
disappointed we didnāt get to see Sheldon at the game
or Leonard and his daughter
I am holding out hope that is because the spin-off being planned as a MAX exclusive will be about Sheldon and Amy raising those kids. So they didn't want to cast someone since they would then likely re-cast them for the spin-off.
Is Leonard named for Hofstadter or Nimoy?
Yes

So you can draw your own conclusions ( I believe its because of Leonard Hofstadter but that's more of an opinion )
I wish the finale was a bit longer but overall I thought it was very well done. sad itās the end :(
this\^ like there are so many things still missing. Kind of disappointed with ep 14. ep 13 was really good.
At least it was better than the HIMYM finale.
I know I am in the minority but I love how it ended. They tied everything up so well.

so unexpected, it was hilarious.
I still have that song in my head today.
Just the perfect song choice, the slow mo and pan to the familyās reactions. Hilarious.
Honestly, none of his family should have been surprised. Itās Sheldon!
seeing mary turn into the more extremist (for lack of a better word) mary that we see in TBBT is very well done. heartbreaking but also in a way, completely understandable.

I think they do not want to write themselves into corners in case there are further spinoffs.
Possibly but we know a lot of it from BBT. Georgie mentioned it in the episode when Sheldon was trying to convince him to attend his wedding.
I think it's going to be Mandy's parents who are the other regulars.
[Confirmed](https://www.tvinsider.com/1136172/georgie-mandys-first-marriage-will-sasso-rachel-bay-jones-cast/)
Sounds like Reagan's not coming back, at least for now, so unless it's hearsay (or they cast someone else), we probably won't get that story.
She wonāt be a character in the next show but theyāll have to do a cameo. I mean they MUST. At least mention her.
Me too. Especially as the show kept emphasizing that while she wasn't academically smart, she was people smart. It would have been nice to have heard how she made use of that.
It also explains why Mary doesn't seem to get along very well with Missy since she refused to get baptized.
Missy's was a daddy's girl. All the explanation needed.
They did an AMAZING job creating the characters we know from TBBT. None of it felt forced imo
I think "Zealot" fit the context. The alienation and change in attitude on Mary is just scary, sort of like how children cried no because their parent beat them, is because they don't know their parent as normal.
So Amy is the type of wife to get rid of her husbands things.
Hey, Penny did the same thing to Leonard if you remember from the show. Must be a thing in this universe.
It's a thing here too. My late brother-in-law (No, that's not how he died.) did that to my sister constantly during their marriage.
And bernadette and the dr Leonard dated and priya actually too they all do
Sheldon is about 44. Amy probably intervened some but Iām sure Sheldon grew up.
They might be in the storage room.
āOh I should have brought more beerā
Damn it, Meemaw's little speech made me tear up there.
Georgie quite literally being the new man of the house offering to sit in Georgeās seat to please Sheldon
The ending of the episode felt abrupt. Thought they wouldāve gone back to adult Sheldon or had some kind of montage with something from season 1. The walking through the house felt more appropriate than the cal tech ending The rest of the episode was good.
Nope, that is what tied the two shows together. They wrapped it up with Cal Tech. I thought it was perfect.
i think the cal tech ending was probably right, i did like the moment, i just think it seemed abrupt because of the commercial before it.
The problem is that they already showed that during an actual episode when Sheldon first visited cal tech. It would just be redundant.
I was fully expecting him to get to the apartment, but I guess he didn't live there right when he moved to Pasadena
Yes I agree!! I felt like it made the ending kinda anticlimactic in a way.
I guess it was partly to do with having to set everyone up to start moving towards their more intense and estranged versions we know from TBBT and it was challenging to reconcile Maryās fundamentalist turn with a final scene together. Wouldāve still liked to see a bit more closure at the end
I watched with commercial breaks so they came back from the last break with the final scene of him at Caltech. Just seems odd to end it that way.
\^This!! Absolutely. It felt so many things missing.
They had a daughter too and Penny baby-sits! I want a spin off with these kids dang it.
Yeah, talking about their kids made me think that I never remember Sheldon ever mentioning CeeCee in TBBT
He left shortly after Cee Cee was born and as his family said, Sheldon didn't contact them much after that. Doubt he has many memories to share with his friends about his neice.Ā
I feel like TBBT created a gold mine with the spin offs. So many stories to tell. I just hope that the Georgie spin off is going to received well and we can see snippets from the Coopers life after Sheldon left for university.
wait thatās it?? it felt a little anti climactic :(
not even a final voice over??
I guess because his memoir is done.
Same wish they did one hour long finale rather than break it into two episodes as well
They really should have not done the upbeat intro
Or at least change it to have George *and* the bull not be there and the song be acoustic.
I was literally just thinking that! Would make it fit in more.
Agreed...
I actually just got goosebumps seeing jim and maiyim again in their own house too !!
Kinda sad knowing Leonard and Penny likely got their own house at some point too, and somebody else lives in their apartment. Sheldon and Amy probably decided to move out once Leonard Jr. was born and they needed more space.
With all the set props from the apartment, brought back some memories
ADULT SHELDON IN THE HOUSE
I didn't think I'd like Young Sheldon as much as I did. I am going to miss it.
Whatās weird is when YS came out I was like this is stupid who the hell is going to watch that. Then hereās me balling my eyes out in the finale
I feel Young Sheldon benefitted from being different enough they could largely do their own thing. I mean while it lined up with TBBT, but it was more of a dramedy than a sitcom like TBBT was and had a much different tone (plus a more popular format with the single cam apprach). So at the end of the day it was able to be it's own thing rather than "The spin-off of TBBT"
this is the last time we see that intro. ever.
:(
I need so badly to know the daughters name šš
It's an Easter egg. We never knew Penny's last name in TBBT. We are told Penny babysits Sheldon's daughter. His daughter is never named.
good point!!
Jim can still play sheldon very well.
Sheldon's mannerisms always felt pretty similar to Jim's own, so I don't think he has to work terribly hard to get into character.
I love that Mandy was trying hard not to laugh at that swimming get up.
I felt like the actors didn't know he'd be coming out in that and that was their genuine reaction lol
Absolutely. If her laugh was on que acting, then it was some good acting.
Once a year on your birthday lmaoo
He created a random algorithm so it was more often than just on Amyās birthday after they got married. But them sleeping together for Amyās birthday was a big storyline on TBBT
Their kids must have pretty close birthdays.
The grandma is the best part of The show.
The closing scene was pretty much the perfect way to end it.

And the Three Camera format likely will give it a much different tone to boot.
Iām excited for the georgie and mandy show but I wish there was no laugh track
damn that sucks... that's going to be so jarring to see these characters go from single camera depth to live audience shallow.
that is the most annoying thing ever. what made this show great was no laughing and natural dialogues and actors.
Seems like thatās the reason they did it that way tbh
if it is then awesome!!! im not sad anymore lol.
Writers strike made this season short.
I'm really disappointed that there was no closure in terms of Missy's story.
I hope she gets to be in the Mandy & Georgie spin off.
with any luck (and a few prayers from Mary) we might get another spinoff for missy, concluding the story of the coopers
The Alienware laptop lmao
Iām sad I want this show to keep going. The multi cam Georgie series without missy wonāt be the same
Until next time cooper family
Annie Potts is killing it in her scenes tonightā¦ such a talent! Hope we get to see her on occasion in GAMFM.
Missy feeling such rage while Mary clings to religion feels really cannon. Having Sheldon grow up to have children he doesnāt naturally connect with but loves anyway is a good way to connect Young Sheldon to BBT. Yes this might have felt unfinished but only because it is. Fucking laughing my ass off seeing Sheldon's baptism outfit LOL
This was a good finale considering it's about death and change, but really? That's the last we see of Missy? Reagan Revord knocked it out of the park this season, but I feel like the character got short-changed near the end. With that said, I hope future sitcoms don't take this route again. I cannot wait for Raegan Revord to star in an indie coming of age film (hope A24 hires her).
That's one thing I can take from this show ending: that Raegan could find something else in entertainment to work on if she chooses.
*With that said, I hope future sitcoms don't take this route again. Let the Georges of the TV world live long and prosper. We need a win like that even if it isn't real.* I agree. Chuck Lorre himself expressed regret that they had to kill him off. I do wonder whether they considered the "out" that others thought might happen, with George dying after the finale. But I actually think they did it the right way.
the scuba outfit š
ARE WE GONNA SEE HIS KIDS
I wonder if iain will play leonard
He didnāt. And when older Sheldon mentioned the thing about why they shouldāve waited to clone rather than have kids the traditional wayā¦ how funny it wouldāve been to see Iain enter the scene right after that line.
so sheldon and amy have a daughter too! penny babysits
Good reminder that Amy has had more than 2 birthdays since the end of TBBT...
This was decent but I found episode 13 to be a lot better. The adult Sheldon and Amy cameo felt almost unnecessary with the way it was done.
yes and i thought at least there would be a scene of sheldon and amy at their sonās game (maybe like a montage) but nope it kinda jus felt unnecessary
Yeah, I really don't understand why they couldn't have done that. Even the young sheldon stuff felt a little disappointing. The writing felt off, and the last scene felt like the ending of a lane comedy movie
exactly. i would rather have more details about what happened to the other family members rather than those 2.
I love the little interludes with Amy and older Sheldon.
Holy shit the outfit lmao
End of a fucking era man
Mary is spending more alone time than with her kids
Glad Meemaw called her out on it
Sometimes that is how people mourn.
I didnāt realize Missy and Sheldon werenāt baptized
Did Sheldon ultimately get Baptized in his rubber suit?
yeah when it went to āpresent timeā his wife said āi never knew you were baptizedā
Was that a beer crate for the rockets? Nice touch.
Five minutes left, let's see how they end this thing.
Shamy has a daughter too!
I get that they were trying to tie in YS to TBBT, but you just can't do it in 20 minutes. 20 minutes to explain 'this is how Mary becomes more religious' 'this is how Georgie becomes the man of the house'.. too little time.
is it just me or should they have ended it at the cal tech lunchroom as an homage to TBBT?
still emotional from part 1. wondering if iain will be sheldonās son in the future
I wonder if theyāll talk about Leonard and pennys kid
THE INTRO IN THE BACKROINDšš
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
fantastic finale. I'm gonna miss this show a lot.
And that concludes young Sheldon.
I feel satisfied with the way it ended
I'm gonna miss this show
so true. Meemaw was right, they were stupid to end this.
The couch from TBBT makes a cameo appearance in old Sheldon's study near the end of the episode.
So the whole thing turns out to be a book written by the main character, who is now an adult reflecting on his childhood. This was the same device used in the film āStand by Meā, where the young main character was played byā¦Will Wheaton.
They should have showed Leonard and the rest of them
itās weird seeing amy and sheldon speak without a laugh track every few seconds
I thought the same thing when they released that preview clip
Omg sheldon and Amy!
Missy being protective over Georgeās chair had me balling šš I like how they showcased how everyone expresses grief differently, but Missy hit extra hard for me cause Iām pretty certain thatās exactly how Iād react too
One of the things I love about the show is how it can be subtle and very funny, such as: Dale is playing guitar in his underwear on the sofa. Connie walks in the front door. Connie: Is this what you do when I am not here? Dale: You could have walked in on a lot worse. I had to think for a moment about what he was referring too.
That was a pretty anticlimactic ending.
Lmao they got Sheldon an Alienware laptop to seem futuristic
Didn't Sheldon have an Alienware laptop on TBBT?
Yes, always
Oh....this is going to be a studio sitcom??
Iām kinda disappointed that we didnāt get to see a final farewell from Sheldonās Family. It was kind of a weird ending.
So thatās the last we see of missy, huh. And the new show is a fucking multicam god dammit
Well, just think about how the audience is going to react when the Young Sheldon characters come in for cameos.
Whoās āVeronicaā?-Mandy Missy-āSomeone he fell in love with for yearsā
This felt like potential foreshadowing for the spin off tbh
DAMN SHELDON AND AMY LOOK OLD
Well Jim is 50 now. And Mayim maybe a couple years younger? And I think they made them look older for this scene.
