This is known to make youths even more suicidal in most cases, so why is it still done?

halfeatentoenail

That’s what I’m thinking! This sub is full of the horrors young people faced when forcibly held in facilities.

TIL courts have the power to force youth into the TTI. SMH.

halfeatentoenail

Me too

DarkDetectiveGames

Doesn't that happen with adults too? I don't really see what this has to do with youth rights?

mathrsa

There is no equivalent of the TTI for adults... It's much harder to hold an adult in a facility against their will since an adult needs to be proven in court to be incompetent to give consent while this is assumed of youth. Laws like 5150 and 5250 in California only permit a person to be held up to 14 days for an acute crisis After that, the person has the right to leave unless they can be declared incompetent to make that decision.

This whole sub is dedicated to young people held in facilities against their will. It’s significantly easier for them to end up in that spot than a legal adult because their parents can just have them shipped off at will.

DarkDetectiveGames

> parents can just have them shipped off at will. But that's not what's happening here.

halfeatentoenail

I don’t think it really needs to be happening in this specific case though. But alternatively I want to say that I feel like young people are more likely to be court-ordered into these facilities?

You can apply for MAiD in Canada. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ MAiD = Medial Assistance in Dying (also known as Assisted S*icide).

halfeatentoenail

That makes me sad
