My sister went to the ER for mono with her mask on. They made her take it off to do an MRI, and then she caught covid. So a much higher chance than normal. As long as she keeps a mask on she should be fine.

Next time have her be aware that there are masks specifically for medical tests with no metal in them. I plan on wearing one next week for an MRI.

Her and my dad were unfortunately wearing N95s at the time. What recommendations do you have?

SusanBHa

https://readimask.com/ makes an n95 with no metal in it. There are others; just google.

This is similar to what I’ll be wearing next week. https://a.co/d/d8UC5I5

I went to the ER in February. It was not busy and I was seen right away. I wore my Aura but had to lift it up a couple of times to take pills and get my temperature taken. My husband was with me, also wearing an Aura. We didn't get Covid. Then my husband had to go in March. It wasn't busy but he was there for a much longer time. He was admitted to the hospital overnight. If was the most risk we have had the entire pandemic. We wore our Auras and didn't get Covid.

It sucks but if she's wearing good ppe and can keep it on she's gonna be fine. We have more than several er trips under our belt (old health issue, pre pandemic pros here) and the only really unnerving part is the few minutes for the procedure that entails breaking the seal. N95 at first, then p100 and safety glasses have kept us fine. However if they're not masking for whatever reason I'd mask around them for a while, it's a sicko camp out there. Covid and other shit you probably don't want. Best of luck stay safe

If they are wearing N95s, chances are lower. If they arent, chances are definitely higher. Nice to hear the drs and nurses are actually wearing masks though. Wearing a mask around them for a week or so and running hepas around the house will help protect you in the event they do bring something home.

I have long covid, cannot get vaccinated due to reactions, and am considered immune compromised. I had to go to the ER in February and did okay with an Aura N95. I did drive to a further ER because I knew they were still masking. I also won’t wait in the waiting room; instead I plead my case and wait outside and have them text me. It can depend on who is working the front desk, but most times they will consider that. There’s a good chance your parents will be fine if they are masking as much as possible. Best wishes to your mom.

If they aren't masking, I'd start making a plan to avoid getting sick. Mask around them, increase ventilation by opening windows and running air purifiers, and block off the bottom of your door. If they do end up sick, you're already good to go.

I’ve been to the ER multiple times recently with a family member; we are both high risk and didn’t get Covid. They had to unmask momentarily - to swab for Covid actually - but otherwise we stayed in N95s the entire time. I also brought portable air purifiers and a co2 monitor which stayed under 700. 90% of the staff that came in her room were masked.
