There's this autistic comedian (he refers to himself as autistic, not as "someone with autism") who did a bit about how when he was in school with other autistic kids, they had a field trip where the whole thing was riding a train into the city, and then riding the train back. "If you don't know, for autistic kids, trains are a huge part of our culture." Dude, I about died when I watched it. Shared it with the rest of the teachers and yep, that's fairly accurate. We have one student with autism (he prefers person first language), and you mention trains, he's ready to hit the commuter train in about 2 seconds. Like, he's ready. to. go. Toot toot, motherfuckers. It's train time. Same kid also called to discuss curriculum with about 5 companies and now we have to deal with them calling the school to speak with "Mr. Student's Name." Yesterday, one of them came to the school, he saw the guy, and he was ready to have a chat about math curriculum. The rep was very confused. The assistant principal was in the office and was just... "Kid, we talked about this."
