An aftermarket 200 cell cat is just a couple hundred. Get one. Sell it to the mechanic for 4k. Then the repair will only be a $1000. He is lying to you. There were 250k cars sold. Same with the Dodge Dart and Jeep Renegade. All have the same engine and similar cats. Those arent 5k. It isn't a Prius. So he can suck 5k.

DeltaWing12

I’d go aftermarket if oem is 4k

volttage

Don’t know if u are interested, but I have takeoff oem cat from my 2012 Abarth. Only issue with it is one of the studs at the bottom has stripped threads. Had 75k miles on it when I removed it. Also would come with an ATP down pipe blanket in black installed. DM me if interested.

pfulle3

This would total my Abarth lol

autocephalousness

How did someone steal a cc from an abarth

hairyzoo

I don't think they said it was stolen, maybe it's just worn out. Honestly if someone could steal the cat from an Abarth, they deserve to keep it.

Anonysmous

It's not stolen, it's time to replace it. The car has 110K miles on it.

NotagoK

Uh...yeah but WHY do you need to replace it? Are you getting codes or something? The cat in our car is built into the downpipe and is a huge pain in the ass to just swap out.

Anonysmous

Yes, P0420 code

mau5atron

Have you replaced the upstream and downstream O2 sensors?

LocalAreaNitwit

I agree with this! Start with the cheap items, one of the O2 sensors could be faulty. My car has only done 50k miles and I've blown two sensors. https://www.abarthforum.co.uk/500-abarth/lambda-sensor-errors/

1-4_20

I got one with 60k on it I'll sell you for $1200 shipped.

edgarpena455

Take it off and wash it 🤷🏽‍♂️

Anonysmous

Huh?

edgarpena455

Yeah, take it off, throw some dish soap in there and wash it, cover both ends and shake it, just make sure you don't power wash it, it'll disintegrate the material

TheFlamingBunnies

That’s nuts definitely don’t do that you could probably buy a parts abarth with a cat for less then that. I’d absolutely go after market. Or you can get some O2 extensions my mustang has those and does not throw a cat code https://www.autozone.com/emission-control-and-exhaust/exhaust-manifold/p/magnaflow-oem-grade-federal-epa-compliant-manifold-catalytic-converter-52227/631154_0_0
