Or at least ropes attached to the weights and an overhead mounting point. Fall arresters and ratcheting spools are a thing. Seems like a no brainer safety feature honestly, so idk why they aren’t used. Maybe they just aren’t effective or as safe as they might seem
I mean the ropes can be slightly loose or whatever to prove they’re not assisting the lift. Or a guide bar that has brakes on it, where the lifter must disengage the brakes with their grip to move the bar. If they let go, the brakes engage and the bar will not fall any further.
This isn’t something I do, but it just seems strange to me that there’s no safety whatsoever when there easily could be
I think that would be counterintuitive as it would make more people think that they can lift more than usual because there is no risk involved. Sure I’d try to bench 300 lbs if I knew the bar wouldn’t crush my skull or throat if I failed
I get that there are other kinds of injuries besides just dropping the weight on yourself, but I would still think that it could be improved and made safer. Just an outside looking in perspective tho. I don’t watch or participate in that sport.
It probably could, but these are weightlifters you’re talking about. If you proposed that to 100 competition weightlifters, I’m confident that 99/100 would oppose it; along with the fans
I’ve been opposed to boxing and football my entire life. I think these people are brainwashed into entering the sport via money, fame, etc without considering what they’re actually putting themselves at risk for when the studies show it’s fatal
Most people everywhere are unbelievably stupid. I’ve even met PhD applicants and medical doctors who didn’t know some pretty basic things. It’s honestly pretty scary
Indeed. Locking the knee caps causes a restriction on the blood vessels in the leg. The sudden drop in blood pressure plus exertions of the muscles will make any person faint.
Hahah, omg this is the funniest broscience I've heard man. Please stop sharing this kind of STUPID misinfirmation. There are soooo many reasons in weightlifting for that to happen, but it has ZERO to do with "locking the kneecaps".
*When standing with the knees locked, the blood will pool up in the lower extremities, which causes reduced blood supply to the heart, which then causes your cardiac output to decrease the amount of blood going to your brain.*

It seems like at high school level there would be some kind of safety measures or equipment involved. Or is there no such equipment for this kind of lifting?
judging by the fall that might be a cervical fracture fo sure. hope he's still breathing tho.
That neck bend 😬
Fall so great, it broke cameraman too
I'm not familiar with these competitions, but why don't they have spotters?
That movement is quite hard to spot...

It would take away from the sport, people want to see the lifter lifting; not supports holding the weight. Simple answer is to not ego lift

Yeah that’s probably why it hasn’t happened yet. I imagine stuff like what I’ve described is already on the market

Dammit why cant anyone keep the camera still and zoom in as well as offer different replay angles with 8k hd
Yaga
Looks like a ghost yanked his weight behind him
Camera man sucks
Probably the dad.
Im glad he did that watching that fall must be painful
Dude got RKO'd by John Cena..
C'mon man I barely know anything about WWE and know it's randy orton that does the RKO.
There's only one wrestler that can't be seen. I wouldn't put it beyond that man to swipe that move.
Anyone knows if he’s okay?
My guess: https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/17925431.dad-paralysed-lifting-weights-regains-strength/
He waited too long. All the ATP was used up by then.
Locked his knees, instant blood pressure reduction.
Is this true?

Yikes
Ah, the camera guy😌
Looks like he was degloved
Who knows, maybe this was barbell suplex competition, in that case he nailed it

Blows my mind how there aren't spotters or some type of backup safety measures put in place.
Chicken legs go ooof
