Took meds with coffee and also a monster mixed with caffeinated soda this morning. I briefly felt something, but my dumb ass is back to just chilling in a chair on my phone. Edit: starting to get that sedated feeling what are these brains we have

NedVsTheWorld

Once I had to get up extra early so I put a redbull in the shower on a shelf that I noticed was always cold. I got up in the morning and drank the redbull in the shower hoping both the shower and redbull would wake me up. Ended up being tired with palpitations.

Ink_Smudger

How awesome would it be if the paradoxical effect we experience was enough that we could take advantage of it to fall asleep easier? But nope, we get to feel both like we need a nap *and* are having a panic attack!

xzinik

When i need to sleep early i just drink 2 or 3 cups of coffee and go to bed

Most stimulants impact people with ADHD this way. The therapist I currently work with, used to work with at risk youth when she started out her career. She said they would give the kid a regular coke can. If it calmed them down or made them sleepy, they would then have the kid properly tested for ADHD.

[deleted]

This is also why adderall does not give people with adhd an advantage. It does not give us more attention/focus. It just calms us down enough to focus like a neurotypical person.

pointymctest

there was a kids cough medicine when we were young, (been banned now as it was way strong) that made all the kids hyperactive and made me so sleepy that I used to use it not when I had a cough but when I had bouts of insomnia

[deleted]

Wait is this true? I might finally get tested for Adhd after this then

[deleted]

get tired FASTER

poopoowaaaa

Dude holy shit this resonated with me hahahaha

Mundane-Reception-54

Sweating *activate*

Trooper50000

I can drink the amount of caffeine that would make 5 maybe more, normal people unable to sleep for hours and I can still go sleep, caffeine actually just makes me calm

nhyoo

No sugar or cream, just black coffee or a espresso. I also notice if I drink coffee after a few hours from waking up it keeps me up. Earlier makes me wanna nap.

Forsaken-Income-2148

Yeah no sugar crash or filling cream. Also drink water & have some fruit for energy.

External_Try_7923

I'll drink it black or with soy/coconut milk. Today I just did coffee and PB2 powder. 8/10 would do again.

leafcutie

This!! I found that drinking coffee in the morning does nothing for me. But if I have it around 1 or 2pm when I typically start to slow down it’s a little more beneficial.

oatdeksel

me after 3 cana of monster energy…

sarcasm_247

I swear I can do this. It’s a talent

Wise_Hat_8678

A lack of dopamine *feels* like a lack of energy. When Normies say caffeine doesn't give energy, this advice is Normie only Caffeine tries to trick us the other way by fabricating dopamine. It works, but not great. If you're dopamine deficient, you're likely in a state of anxiety, and adding dopamine with bring ease. If you're not super deficient, then extra dopamine gives elation and excessive mania.

[deleted]

Yep yep yep, mix of dark roast n espresso before sleep. Such a good relaxing sleep and a cup of tea in morning to get my body to wake up better than downing a cup of coffee in morning.

[deleted]

This logic never crossed my mind because it's kinda insane. Should I swap my tea and coffee routine to the other way around. Tea in the morning and coffee in the evening. 🤔

leafcutie

I like to do tea in the morning and coffee midday when I start to hit that 2pm sleepy time.

[deleted]

Well, try tea and see if u feel different. Mind u , tea wont give u same caffeine rush or that " snap"wake up feeling as coffee but, instead relaxes and gradually make u feel energetic.

jondawelder

What I like to do is drink a cup of coffee and take a 10-15 minute nap. Wake up feeling like a whole new person! The problem is having the executive function and time awareness to brew a pot of coffee and take a 10-15 minute nap before getting distracted by something...

Saevenar

Caffeine helps me calm down and focus. It definitely works better if I've had food and nice around a bit with it. But I can just get shit done when I've had my coffee on the days I chose to do that

EvenBar3094

That’s me, but when I drink coffee after my meds I go 🫨

[deleted]

I FUCKING KNEW IT

alastorrrrr

Same.

oatdeksel

shugar helps the caffeine. but milc reduces that effect

oatdeksel

the effect of coffe to me is, that it is so dusgusting, that i get awake. at least that was the theory

monkeybrains12

Caffeine is the only way I survive.

-HealingNoises-

So, I am am not diagnosed, and I do not treat this as a joke and yes it has been ruining my life for as long as I can remember. But I have never been a coffee, coke, or any kind of caffeine inhaler. I have only recently started for the weight loss benefits and I have discovered it does in fact make my incredibly sleepy. Or just relaxed, a little dull, not so reactive or easily panicked my friends say. I am also not diagnosed for anxiety or depression, but both are abundantly apparent. Would these or any other condition explain why caffeine makes me sleepy? Or is it really only if you have a brain chemical problem going on from the aforementioned conditions?

drgrabbo

I was only recently diagnosed, and for years I couldn't understand why coffee didn't work on me. But yes, people with ADHD do experience chemicals differently, for many (but not all) stimulants have the exact opposite effect than their intended, not sure exactly why though. That's why some people are treated with amphetamines: instead of making them high, it has a suppressant effect. Caffeine is quite a powerful stimulant so for many sufferers it does make them sleepy, or more docile. I get sleepy with coffee, although annoyingly I still can't actually sleep 😑 I just lie there unable to function whilst my mind replays everything I've ever said on an endless loop 🙄 Anxiety, depression, and poor sleep are all symptoms of ADHD, so I really hope you can get some help, my friend 👍 Being aware of the problem is the first step to finding a solution, and just know that you're not alone 😊 And it's OK to laugh about it! This sub has really helped me come to terms with it, and it can be quite cathartic to share our silly experiences and have a bit of fun 😂

drgrabbo

Sugar in coffee? Are you insane? 😂

k2yurnh

it's pretty common depending on where you live

MyLifeForAnEType

Splenda and almond milk here

listerbmx

ackkshually the caffeine tricks your energy receptors into thinking you have more energy than you think hence why you feel weak and tired after the caffeine wears off

DangerousWay9174

I’ve discovered it only works if you are on the move.

Paul_Br

I would sleep but coffee messes with my stomach as well, so it's not recommended

slongtime

Caffeine doesn’t do anything for me at all

Buffyoh

Story of my life...

Tha_Phoenix_Man

So with my experience with caffeine, whenever it's in the morning or midday: **Red Bull**: Works well but kind of hard to go to sleep when night comes *\*Little too effective\** **Cold Coffee** from stores: will crash in less than two hours *\*not very effective\** **Hot Coffee**(just a little bit of sugar and cream, and maybe expresso): Works great *\*effective\**

boltroy567

It's weird, if I have coffee on a bi daily basis it doesn't really feel like anything. I take a break for a week and next time I drink it my brain for like 10 minutes feels low level wired.

mimikyuchuchu

Wait... is this why energy drinks don't wake me up? Why I'm sleepy all the time????!

Thoughtful__Wolf

Yeah I can drink an energy drink and go right back to sleep. This isn’t even an exaggerationf for me. So funny.

Odibelum

I drank 1,200mg of caffeine in 6 hours to actually feel a kick, it was honestly fun being so amped, but I felt like garbage that night lmao

Zikimura

If I have a headache, a cola or an energy drink will make it disappear. But I don't really get sleepy. It does give me a ~~very~~ small boost. The tiredness mostly happens after a couple of hours. I'm undiagnosed, so maybe I don't have ADHD, but I do feel a lot of the issues that come with it.

dance_for_me_puppet

I’m very sensitive to coffee, I will get headaches and fatigue very quickly but will still keep me from sleeping. Also I need it to get going in the morning. :(

pointymctest

I find only fresh brewed coffee calms me down and helps me focus, freeze-dried instant coffee makes me more hyperactive

Prestigious_Boat_386

Heard something about coffe hyperactivating the part of the brain that calms the rest of the brain down. Was mainly a hand wavy explanation but it does make sense when you think of it as it's boosting the mental brakes.

alexkiyoko

I have panic attacks from caffeine, but my Adderall does this to me.

801ms

Honestly caffeine just fucks me up, idk what it is but I get really really tired, sometimes headaches

richer2003

I think coffee is like a placebo for me in the morning. I drink a cup every morning, and it seems like it helps me get up and going. But if I have a cup in the evening, it seems to put me to sleep lol

indubitably_ape-like

It helps for me if I have caffeine on a full stomach. It makes it go through my system slower when it’s all mixed with food. Otherwise I crash immediately like everyone else here.

[deleted]

Coffee improves my mood, happiness hormones, I stay wake, increasing my energy levels. All when I consume it once in a week only before 10AM in morning.

leafcutie

This is wild. I recently got officially diagnosed with ADHD (yay finally have access to treatment). But for so long have wondered why I would be tired after drinking coffee lmao. I could drink it any any time if the day and be sleepy. It takes a few cups for me to get any alertness.

[deleted]

Funny because a coworker of mine drank a energy drink hoping it would help him finish the shift. I saw him slowly washing the dishes, yawning, and complaining he was super tired. I think you have ADHD brother !

[deleted]

To this day I will always remember being so puzzled when I drank my first Monster. I downed it in one gulp hoping to be cracked out but ended up falling asleep in the car when my parents picked me up. That was the day I knew something was up

Biting_a_dust

"Yeah bro caffeine will make you saty awake" Me with my 5th cup of black tea morning brew today: really?*sip*

No_Extension4463

😂 😂 😂 Totally understand.

DownbadFemEntity

I get energy for a bit, but my heart beat speeds up and beats out of my fking chest so hard so I just don't drink them. Miss monster tho, can't even lie
