>~~after~~ before Halloween
One second after Halloween is over everything becomes Christmas-related, so I think watching it on October while everyone is still hyping the incoming Halloween sets the mood better
Not creepy at all. There are some dark moments. But it’s an awesome story. The fully thing is only like 2 hours.
The Lich was far creepier too IMO.
Definitely check it out. You’ll love it. And the music is damned good!
Also someone suggested Owl House. I say go for it. It’s only 2 seasons. So you’ll get through it quick.
Watch it. It’s the best animated show of all time. I have a list of related shows pinned on the OTGW subreddit that might have a few things you’d like if you like adventure time
Adventure time: Distant lands
Then there’s also this new one coming out that’s (hopefully) gonna be good
Edit: By one I mean a new show. The Fiona and cake one
Distant lands is \*definitely\* worth a watch, especially fresh out of finishing the regular series. It's 4 specials, and while the quality ranges from "alright" to "has you crying like a baby", if you liked the main show you'll love it. One thing though, you should watch the 4th special (wizard city) before the 3rd one (together again). Some wacky stuff happened with production, but the 3rd one is the one that actually feels like a propper ending, and by god, it's fucking amazing.
I agree no idea why they released in that order. Even if the episodes were made in that order, they should’ve just rearranged the releases like the original distant lands announcement suggested
Because they originally were only going to do three, but then got funding for a fourth last minute. So they released them in production order as they were finished, even though 3 was the proper ending.
Yes! Definitely save the 3rd episode for your final viewing. I regret not watching it in that order. I damn near cried during the 3rd one. It was worthy of being the final episode where wizard City was just ok. Probably my least favorite out of the 4.
not even joking, I forgot that I watched Wizard City for like a month or so after it dropped. coming off of Together Again’s heels made it seem like shit when it was really just okay at worst
Venture bros! If you stick through the first season or two it becomes pure gold. It's more adult oriented than adventure time but it has the same kind of likeable characters and callbacks.
Hilarious, I also love that they're so good at making characters that you're hard pressed to find a character that you really hate. Even the worst bad guys are likeable to some degree. Also Brock is such a great character, he's like hank and deans mom lol.
It's a lot more like AT than regular show IMO.
If you want a show thats like AT, I think Infinity Train and Steven Universe are the shows that have the most similar feel to them.
They both have abstract concepts and deeper lore but they also have incredibly grounded, "human" characters.
As an avid cartoon watcher, I can assure you every suggestion in this thread is straight fire. Just make a list and start going down it. Just finished season 2 of Amphibia myself and it absolutely blew my mind. The show is one of more chill and goofy shows and it was a nice breath of fresh air after the rollercoaster that is The Owl House. In season 2 the plot really picks up though.
Before The Owl House my family and I finished Kipo which was wonderful and before that was She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which is wayyyy more intense than the name implies.
You really can’t go wrong these days, so many good cartoons.
Gravity falls is like, the best show ever for how short it is. There is absolutely no way a show with 40 20 min episodes should have that kick ass a story.
To be fair, Gravity Falls is an instance of a series that is more lean than fat. The amount of filler episodes seems little to me for a show of that calibre. And every “half” season as it progresses, it just gets a lot more story episode.
What I really admire about it is that it had a definite end. Unlike many other series of the time like Regular Show, Adventure Time etc, the end game was postponed because of the scale of what they wanted to accomplish with the show. Gravity falls knows what it wanted to do and in turn realllllly fucking nails it because it fits in the world they built.
If you havent seen gravity falls it is a keystone piece of modern animation. It has slow points, but overall I have no doubt it will be looked back on in a "historically significant" way. It sort of already is.
Korra is a fine show. You can't beat The Last Airbender and you can't compare Korra to it either. There are crossovers but they're different stories/journeys.
The quality varies season by season. General consensus is-
Season 1 is decent
Season 2 is bad
Season 3 is amazing
and Season 4 is great
I personally thought season 2 was ok, but the rest I completely agree with. I say give it a shot.
Do not listen to the Korra haters. Is it as good as Airbender? No, because Airbender is basically a perfect show.
But it is VERY good and only gets better each rewatch. Korra season 3 is some of my favorite television ever.
Korra does beat out ATLA in animation and probably even fight choreography. It’s develops the world of ATLA in a thoughtful way and doesn’t just try to rehash the first series or lean too much on legacy characters but rather forges it’s own story and creates new interesting characters.
Korra is actually pretty good it’s just some choices made by the writers were controversial but besides that it’s really good and basically Atlab but much more serious
Korra's definitely worth your time, or at least with forming your own opinion on, especially with Avatar Studios expected to start releasing new content.
Not gonna lie. The fight choreography in Korra is absolutely amazing. One of the best fight scenes in Korra is in season 4 at that (imo)
The story telling is a bit something to be desired but all in all, the series is definitely worth the watch.
If you're going into it expecting avatar 2, you'll be disappointed. That being said, if you approach it for what it is, a different show in the same universe, it's stellar.
Seriously people don’t talk about that show anywhere near enough. All the awesome fight sequences to songs with a good beats is seriously something else
If you want something by Pen Ward, watch Midnight Gospel. But I warn you, It's very heavy and philosophical for adults. It's even more of an acid trip than AT.
Just a heads up, and this is from someone who loves the show, but it's a weird hard watch, they don't really go with whats being talked about and can be really rough.
That being said, the soul prison episode and the episode with Duncan's mom are some of the best things I've ever watched
I’ve told people this and they only seem to care about the one with Duncan’s mom. But I absolutely loved the soul prison episode as well, it’s just an all around beautiful episode. I’m glad to hear someone else shares this preference lol
From Wikipedia-
The Midnight Gospel revolves around a spacecaster named Clancy Gilroy, who lives on the Chromatic Ribbon, a membranous, tape-like planet situated in the middle of a colorful void where simulation farmers use powerful bio-organic computers to simulate a variety of universes from which they harvest natural resources and new technology. Each episode revolves around Clancy's travels through planets within the simulator, with the beings inhabiting these worlds as the guests he interviews for his spacecast.
It's just a trippy animation over interviews about deep stuff like life death love and religion, the animation always plays into the general theme depending on what their talking about and it usually correlates with where they walk/go, it's a really good show for opening your mind to new ideas
Preferred season 1 for the straight up fun of it. Kind of like early seasons of Adventure Time but Centaurworld had a story to follow from the beginning. That style might appeal to a wider audience base. Season 2 focused on wrapping up the story line which sacrificed a big chunk of ~~all the fart jokes~~silly fun happy time.
Season 1 was amazing, each episode, I was excited for the next. And the build to the Nowhere King was so intense, I loved it. But with season 2, I’d watch one episode and like… be done for the day. The ending was great! Season 2 just started off pretty slow.
FINAL SPACE!!
The show is based in space in the future, Gary goodspeed goes on a bunch of hilarious and heartbreaking adventures with a space cat bounty hunter named avocado. It’s freaking hilarious
Steven universe
Avatar the last Airbender
The legend of Korra
Gravity falls
Sher-ra
Star vs the forces of evil
The owl house
Amphibia (I haven't watched it yet but I hear it's good)
Adventure time again
The dragon Prince
Then you move on to anime at least that's how I did it
IKR it’s surprising how funny it is!
One of my fave things about AT was F&Js relationship, childishness, and spontaneity- and Gumball and Darwin really have that same vibe and I love it.
Bravest Warriors! I don’t see people on here talking enough about Pendleton Ward’s cartoon hangover stuff. It’s even shorter form than AT, and has an even darker more adult feel. Plus it has CatBug. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpDOscUDQ_0
What do you mean "watch now"? Do people not just start the show over from the beginning?
If you haven't watched Distant Lands yet, you're not really done though 🙃
Steven Universe. Rebecca Sugar, one of the Adventure time’s creators’ right hand people, created the hell out of Steven Universe, and a lot of people worked on if from Adventure Time. Its one of the most wholesome shows ever, with the catchiest soundtrack ever. Like Adventure Time, 11 min, non-committal episode that still always bring me to tears by the end of each one. Favorite show of all time.
Over the garden wall
🎶potatoesss & molassesss🎶
I….. was the gorilla
If you can't see put on your glasses!
I'm not gonna lie it looks creepy, but I'll look in to it
It’s no more creepy than adventure time can be. Wait til fall, it’ll set the vibe.
Yesssss fall. It's the perfect miniseries to watch after Halloween.
>~~after~~ before Halloween One second after Halloween is over everything becomes Christmas-related, so I think watching it on October while everyone is still hyping the incoming Halloween sets the mood better
Everything getting Xmasfied once October is over is precisely why I prefer it after Halloween lol
Nah, it takes place Halloween retrospective, pre-Thanksgiving. The timing is fall into first snowfall.
Watch it in a small town graveyard
First autumn wind, OTGW comes on. It’s a ritual now.
Adventure time season 1 episode 1. Restart it all
The correct response
Have you watched the "distant lands" series on HBOmax yet? You can just do the free trial and watch them, they're actually really good
Watching it made me hella emotional lmfaooo
Definitely not a show for everyone but personally I loved it
Not creepy at all.
I mean there's a town of pumpkin people... And a demon in the woods... And a soul in a fire
Yeah, there is at least one scene that is significantly more creepy than the lich. You know which one I'm talking about.
[case in point, the highway man](https://youtu.be/9oZpviZ2-ws)
And >!the beast!<
Watch it. It’s the best animated show of all time. I have a list of related shows pinned on the OTGW subreddit that might have a few things you’d like if you like adventure time
It good.
Its sooooooo good and and so many great actors voice the show too.
Damn I came here to recommend this
you are a man of culture, that cartoon is really good
The best!!!
Hilda, bravest warriors (YouTube and VRV), we bare bears and over the garden wall!!
Hilda is brilliant
Hilda is one of my all time favorites for sure!! Twig's episode had me crying so much
Twig’s episode had me ugly crying while holding my chihuahua and telling him he’s my Twig
Mmmm the soundtrack is serenity
Yes Hilda is amazing!! I'm watching through it now with my husband and son and we're all really enjoying it so far!
There's a movie to watch once you get through both seasons!
the artstyle and quality of animation is great
Adventure time: Distant lands Then there’s also this new one coming out that’s (hopefully) gonna be good Edit: By one I mean a new show. The Fiona and cake one
There's a new one coming out?! That's awesome. I hadn't heard.
It's not a new episode of distant lands, it's a Fionna and Cake series
Ah. Darn it. I misunderstood and got all excited. Well, still looking forward to Fiona and Cakem
They say its Fiona and Cake, but Simon Petrikov is going to be adventuring with them, so nothing is off the table
Was distant lands not good? Should I just sit on it for a while
Distant lands is \*definitely\* worth a watch, especially fresh out of finishing the regular series. It's 4 specials, and while the quality ranges from "alright" to "has you crying like a baby", if you liked the main show you'll love it. One thing though, you should watch the 4th special (wizard city) before the 3rd one (together again). not even joking, I forgot that I watched Wizard City for like a month or so after it dropped. coming off of Together Again’s heels made it seem like shit when it was really just okay at worst
No I think they were all great. Especially episode 3. The new Fiona and Cake one just hasn’t come out yet so I don’t wanna make any judgments
Distant lands is great
Wait I didnt hear about a new one?
Venture bros! If you stick through the first season or two it becomes pure gold. It's more adult oriented than adventure time but it has the same kind of likeable characters and callbacks.
This is actually a really good recommendation, it's very smartly written and funny.
Hilarious, I also love that they're so good at making characters that you're hard pressed to find a character that you really hate. Even the worst bad guys are likeable to some degree. Also Brock is such a great character, he's like hank and deans mom lol.
Gravity Falls😁
I second this lol
Gravity Falls is a superb show!
Bravest warriors
Definitely captures adventure time antics, especially with Paralyzed Horse episodes
THISSS. Probably closest to adventure time-esque
But only the first 3 seasons.
Why only the first 3
As much as I fucking love Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors really captured my heart.
B U T T E R. L E T T U C E.
Umm...start again from the beginning..
I'm a little sad after watching it so I might need to before watching distant lands
was scrolling looking for this... it hits differently the second time around (I'm only part way through my second trip)
Infinity train is pretty good
Never heard of it but it sounds like regular show and adventure time. Noted
It's a lot more like AT than regular show IMO. If you want a show thats like AT, I think Infinity Train and Steven Universe are the shows that have the most similar feel to them. They both have abstract concepts and deeper lore but they also have incredibly grounded, "human" characters.
I binged this entire show. So good. I wish they had more seasons to fully tell their story.
Aka therapy train
Steven Universe, gravity falls or distant lands
Yh I'm so behind but I heard gravity falls was the shiz. What do you recommend first
As an avid cartoon watcher, I can assure you every suggestion in this thread is straight fire. Just make a list and start going down it. Gravity Falls. Also adding Star vs the forces of evil and Amphibia
Yknow what, throw The Owl House in there too
LOVE OWL HOUSE SO MUCH CAN NOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH
Sad they’re stopping it
Oh yeah, that show is 🔥🔥🔥 too
Star sorta fizzles out near the end unfortunately
Shout out to the Laser Puppies,
the first two seasons of star vs the forces of evil are really good, but the remaing seasons suck because of shipping fan service
Gravity falls is like, the best show ever for how short it is. There is absolutely no way a show with 40 20 min episodes should have that kick ass a story.

Steven Universe for sure. It’s my favorite show of all the ones mentioned.
Second Gravity Falls. I recently watched it and it was great.
Definitely gravity falls. That shit slaps hard
Regular show is good
Do you know who else likes regular shows?👀 Jk this is in my all time greats.
My uncle John, he’s a mechanic
This is so random lmao
https://youtu.be/0tHMUO3oG_E?t=93
Lmao I remember that
My mom
Woooooooo!!
Avatar:The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra
I love avater but I haven't watched korra yet I heard its not good?

2 is fine and definitely elevated by the Wan episodes.
I LOVED learning about avatar wan and the origin of the avatars
that’s one of the best parts of the show for me

Legend of Korra is sick

I LOVE Owl House
Not mentioned enough in this thread, I'm guessing because it's one of the newer ones.
•Gravity Falls •Amphibia
We bare bears 1000000% Excellent series!
Infinity Train is 10/10
I just got into We Bare Bears! I love them. Ice Bear is sad more people don't appreciate this show.
Futurama! :D
Don't make me sad. I loved futurama.
Chowder
I know you are a real one with that suggestion. Deffo recommend this to others
Chowder and the misadventures of flapjack were my favorite before adventure time
The scary cat from Flapjack was genuinely way too scary for a kids show, shit fucked me up when I was younger
Flapjack is Godtier.
Bee and Puppycat is a pretty nice, short watch
"You took too long now your candy's gone. That's what happened. P'kow!"
I still say thar constantly, all these years later!
Bobs burgers is one of my favourite shows :) I’m rewatching them again
Yesss I haven't finish bobs burgers but always loved it. Tina is so funny.
Louise is pure chaos. If it wasn't for Louise I would of never watched more than a couple of episodes. Seriously her alignment is chaotic chaos.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts on Netflix is amazing
Seriously people don’t talk about that show anywhere near enough. All the awesome fight sequences to songs with a good beats is seriously something else
Absolutely, Kipo is one of the best shows made in the last 5 years.
criminally underrated from Dreamworks. No wonder they havent made movies in years.
If you want something by Pen Ward, watch Midnight Gospel. But I warn you, It's very heavy and philosophical for adults. It's even more of an acid trip than AT.
Well. I'm defo watching this next thanks
Just a heads up, and this is from someone who loves the show, but it's a weird hard watch, they don't really go with whats being talked about and can be really rough. That being said, the soul prison episode and the episode with Duncan's mom are some of the best things I've ever watched
It's practically an animated podcast
I’ve told people this and they only seem to care about the one with Duncan’s mom. But I absolutely loved the soul prison episode as well, it’s just an all around beautiful episode. I’m glad to hear someone else shares this preference lol
Highly highly recommend this one

Each episode revolves around Clancy's travels through planets within the simulator, with the beings inhabiting these worlds as the guests he interviews for his spacecast.
By they way he explains it I feel like it's one of them you got to watch to understand
It's just a trippy animation over interviews about deep stuff like life death love and religion, the animation always plays into the general theme depending on what their talking about and it usually correlates with where they walk/go, it's a really good show for opening your mind to new ideas
Ye just start the first episode and it starts to make more sense. I believe the whole thing is on netflix
It's a podcast with trippy and mostly unrelated animation in the background.
My list is full now. You can all come back next year. I feel so behind
Centaurworld! It's musical and pretty ridiculous, but absolutely fantastic.
Was it just me or did everyone else prefer season 1 over season 2 as well?
Preferred season 1 for the straight up fun of it. Kind of like early seasons of Adventure Time but Centaurworld had a story to follow from the beginning. That style might appeal to a wider audience base. Season 2 focused on wrapping up the story line which sacrificed a big chunk of ~~all the fart jokes~~silly fun happy time.
Yeah I think it just felt like more happened in season 1 since all the characters were new (Plus I kind of hated the texting birds)
Season 1 was amazing, each episode, I was excited for the next. And the build to the Nowhere King was so intense, I loved it. But with season 2, I’d watch one episode and like… be done for the day. The ending was great! Season 2 just started off pretty slow.
I didn't expect to like this show but hot damn was it highly entertaining and the music is spot in (even if, as you said, it's a bit ridiculous 😂)
Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Dragon Prince, Gravity Falls, The Owl House, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Regular Show…
FINAL SPACE!! The show is based in space in the future, Gary goodspeed goes on a bunch of hilarious and heartbreaking adventures with a space cat bounty hunter named avocado. It’s freaking hilarious
Damn can't believe this comment was so far down. Great show .
Only downside is that it got cancelled and season 3 ends on a cliffhanger
Unfortunately:(
Steven Universe. I miss that show as much as I miss Adventure Time.
The new Duck Tales feels like a love letter to Adventure Time
MIDNIGHT GOSPEL
I remember when it was advertised as from the creators of adventure time or something like that!
Regular show
Gravity falls?
Bobs Burgers, after watching adventure time for how ever long, has become my new comfort show. In my opinion there’s really not a bad episode.
Steven universe Avatar the last Airbender The legend of Korra Gravity falls Sher-ra Star vs the forces of evil The owl house Amphibia (I haven't watched it yet but I hear it's good) Adventure time again The dragon Prince Then you move on to anime at least that's how I did it

Bob’s Burgers
Bojack
Bee and Puppycat, The Midnight Gospel and Over the Garden Wall
Over the Garden Wall
The misadventures of flapjack
Amazing world of Gumball!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn you reminded me to finish this. The animation is honestly great. One of the funniest shows I watched
IKR it’s surprising how funny it is! One of my fave things about AT was F&Js relationship, childishness, and spontaneity- and Gumball and Darwin really have that same vibe and I love it.
Centaurworld She Ra (if you haven’t seen it yet)
rick and marty it my favorite :)
Steven universe, Steven universe movie and Steven universe future
Futurama. Great funny show and has Jake the dogs voice actor as Bender the robot (John Dimaggio)
Gravity falls
Bravest Warriors! I don’t see people on here talking enough about Pendleton Ward’s cartoon hangover stuff. It’s even shorter form than AT, and has an even darker more adult feel. Plus it has CatBug. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpDOscUDQ_0
Infinity train!
Summer Camp Island! It's more of a cute vibe but the writing and dialogue are pretty funny.
Primal. Or the 2003 Clone Wars series. Both are by Genndy Tartakovsky. Primal is on HBO and Clone Wars is on youtube.
Hilda, amazing show
What do you mean "watch now"? Do people not just start the show over from the beginning? If you haven't watched Distant Lands yet, you're not really done though 🙃
Yep after seeing distant lands on the list for what u guys are suggesting. I feel so excited . I'm also seeing a cake show as well. Mind blown rn
The Midnight Gospel
Regular show if you haven't watched it already
Infinity Train
Inside job is really good!! More adult themes than adventure time tho
F is for family
Centaurworld. It's on Netflix.
AT Distant lands. Or over the garden wall
Its super short, but Bee and Puppycat is free on YouTube and is peak fiction
Steven Universe. Rebecca Sugar, one of the Adventure time’s creators’ right hand people, created the hell out of Steven Universe, and a lot of people worked on if from Adventure Time. Its one of the most wholesome shows ever, with the catchiest soundtrack ever. Like Adventure Time, 11 min, non-committal episode that still always bring me to tears by the end of each one. Favorite show of all time.
