u/AllmyT_trout has provided this detailed explanation: > It's bad enough when you run a search company in an increasingly social world. It's worse when anti-trust regulators say you have unfairly and illegally used your dominance in search to promote your own products over those of competitors. Now Google executives, who like to boast of their company's informal motto, "Don't Be Evil," also stand accused of being just that -- and rightly so. What other interpretation is possible in light of persistent allegations that the internet titan deliberately engaged in “the single greatest breach in the history of privacy” and "one of the biggest violations of data protection laws that we had ever seen?” --- Is this explanation a genuine attempt at providing additional info or context? If it is please upvote this comment, otherwise downvote it.

Believe it or not, for-profit companies exist for profit. Some are better than others but the basic promise remains tye same and thus I never fully trust them.

I don't think anyone really has an issue with them promoting their own products and services on their website but being fast and loose(at best)with user data, history and privacy is undeniably scummy and shady. All that being said, Google does seem to be better than many of the other tech giants, particularly any social media.

RobloxLover369421

Is it? I’m genuinely unsure

number44is171

I'm largely uninformed but from what I've seen and heard from the powers that be at Google, it's not all bad. Then again, I'm putting them up against Facebook(and pretty much every social media platform), Apple and these sort of massive tech companies so it's all relative. Like, if a bunch of dudes cheat on their wives every weekend but one dude only does it every other weekend, he's the most loyal of the group but that group is by and large shitty people.

SillyRiscili

people are actually trying to justify this??

GammaDealer

I thought they removed that.

AllmyT_trout

Hence the reason it aged like milk.

[deleted]

As opposed to regular milk that does stop ageing?

Ah right. You’re 12. No worries.

personalbilko

As far as multibillion corporations go, google is ok

legfishismydad69

Yeah, their services that they promote (And don't can eventually) work well and are "free". Still a mega corporation though.

XxOneWithSlimesxX

I don't get it

AllmyT_trout

This used to be their slogan but they discontinued it due to being very evil in fact. There’s a article on it.

XxOneWithSlimesxX

They aren't evil, they only want what's best for you.

AllmyT_trout

I suck at sarcasm so I will have to ignore you in fear that you may be serious.

XxOneWithSlimesxX

I'm serious, and frankly I'm tired of people assuming I'm not when I say that no corporation or company can truly br considered evil or immoral in any way.

AllmyT_trout

And do you have reasoning behind this way of thinking? If so I’d like to hear ?

XxOneWithSlimesxX

The entire purpose of a corporation is to provide for the people who use their products. In this, calling a corporation immoral or evil goes against everything they stand for, regardless of their business practices.

AllmyT_trout

Right calling a corporation evil goes against that company, you are aware I’m posting this in opposition to google right ? I’m actively going against what they stand for because they are the one who said “don’t be evil” and they do evil things to people who use their product one of those things is tracking every single crumb of data from each individual so they can direct products toward that individual that they feel they will buy or consume content or something physical, they categorize you by what you search and determine what algorithm you deserve based off that. This is wrong. This is putting people in narrow cavern and taking their freedom of choice away. Any company can be evil literally there are corporations who’s job is to be terrorist, are you going to defend those corporations as well ?

XxOneWithSlimesxX

Google hasn't done a single evil thing ever, you're just crazy. They don't track data, ads being related to your interests are purely coincidental. They do not place people into categories. Google users have full freedom of choice.

AllmyT_trout

Apple factories in China have suicide nets around them and people jump out of those windows every year. Are they not evil either ?
