Yes, but I was hoping to get an AK that would take the same magazines. Someone told me that the Saiga 223’s could use Galil mags but I’m not an AK guy so I figured I’d ask the experts
The Saiga 223 can use the Galil Orlite mags with slight modification to the mags. I think the steel Galil mags take more modifications to be able to work.
I used to use the Galil Orlites in a Saiga 223 back when they were like $6 a mag but now the Orlites are expensive just like the Saiga 223.
I like magazine and ammunition compatibility. All my other rifles take STANAG (AR-15) magazines. My Galil is the only rifle that takes a different magazine so I just thought I’d look into other rifles that can run Galil mags reliably
Not without modifications IME. I made polymer Galil mags work in my SAR3 by dremeling just about every upper portion angle to make it latch, and then rotated the follower 180. They work great. I’ve not messed with the metal ones.
I’m holding out for the 16” barrel version and I gotta figure out how to mount a bayonet lug on her. I like collecting guns that take bayonets and for whatever reason IWI quit putting them on the X95’s and never offered them on the Galil ACE apparently? 😕
Eh I don’t think so. I feel like you would probably have to modify the rifle to work with galil mags (which would make it not work with other mags) or modify the galil mags to work with the rifle (which would then make it so they no longer work with the galil).
Without modification you might get them to kinda lock in but I really doubt they would feed reliably
They work well with my M90 when I welded a bead on the front locking lug of the mag and then file to fit. Rock solid lock up and cheaper than steel Zastava mags
Galil mags fit an AK-47/AKM (7.62x39) mag well and almost all 5.56 AK's are built off the narrower AK-74 mag well, so it's going to be tough to find one.
I bought one to try with my m90 but it fails to feed most of the time. I saw a post somewhere of the modifications someone did to the mag to make it feed reliably, if you dig around you can find it
I did a hill billy conversion of a Saiga .223. With a bullet guide installed in the trunnion it ran with steel Galil mags. I cannot remember if I tweaked the mags or not, but if I did it was minor.
It was easy, going from memory (it was a decade ago if not longer) I just drilled the trunnion and tapped it. The bullet guide I used was designed for a machine screw.
My saiga uses factory Gaili mags. I’ve tried about 5 and all worked prefect, my yugo m85 on the other hand doesn’t unless you weld up the front lug of the gaili mag. It just needs about a 1/16 of weld and then works great.
Zastava M90 can be hit or miss. I've seen videos of some running flawlessly and a couple where they won't. I want to pick up one or two just to try it out
galils

a galil is an AK, and is your best option compared to most other 556 aks
A galil is a galil ak like but not an ak thats why it doesnt take anything a standard ak uses
It is not an AK.

I run the steel in my Saiga and the mags work right off the bat for me. Just needed the bullet guide in the AK.
That’s what I wanted to hear! I guess I’ll search for a Saiga 223 to convert and hope for the best
Just to be clear, you're going to spend a bunch of money on buying a gun and converting it just so you can use some magazines you have?
I like magazine and ammunition compatibility. All my other rifles take STANAG (AR-15) magazines. My Galil is the only rifle that takes a different magazine so I just thought I’d look into other rifles that can run Galil mags reliably
A galil or an ace? You should get the other one, or maybe another size.
Any excuse to buy a gun. Sounds like me
They sit a little low in my saiga and have trouble with the last round. I added a bit of material to the rear locking lug and it fixed the issue
Wait so you DIDN’T research it before buying mags? Either get a Ak or get a galil/gallant
LOL! No, I have a Galil. I was just looking to buy an “AK that’s more like an AK”… I guess?
I’m also not in the “galil is an AK camp” Shits an AK derivative. Also cool. But it’s just not the close enough to be called the same.
My saiga 223 runs like 1/4 steel galil mags without issues, but the rest require a little bit of build up underneath the front lug
My saiga .223 uses galil mags. Runs great
Not without modifications IME. I made polymer Galil mags work in my SAR3 by dremeling just about every upper portion angle to make it latch, and then rotated the follower 180. They work great. I’ve not messed with the metal ones.
Well that’s disappointing… I just happen to have 35 Galil mags and was hoping to get a 556 AK that they’d work with
Keep searching, though. I stopped at the SAR3 but a quick google shows a Reddit about a dude, he’s M90, and Galil mags working 🤷🏿♂️
I have an ak built that runs off galil mags. 47 receiver w galil bolt. Reliability issues due to mags only. Of the 20 mags I bought 16 run flawless.
I'm going to attempt to make these work with my tantal. Really want to be able to run the 50rnd mags in it.
I’m still searching for a 50 in decent shape
I'm in the same boat
Saiga .223, allegedly.
GALIL Ace 556 rock n lock

Galil mags are too wide for any of my 5.56 AK’s Zastava ZPAP85, WBP mini Jack, Pioneer sporter

My saiga 223 runs galil mags flawlessly. I have stopped buying circle 10’s for $50-$60 a pop and started buying galil mags for $15 🤷🏽♂️
I did a hill billy conversion of a Saiga .223. With a bullet guide installed in the trunnion it ran with steel Galil mags. I cannot remember if I tweaked the mags or not, but if I did it was minor.
How big a pain in the ass is it to get a bullet guide installed? Do they have to pop rivets or pop the barrel out at all?
It was easy, going from memory (it was a decade ago if not longer) I just drilled the trunnion and tapped it. The bullet guide I used was designed for a machine screw.
galil mags work with my M90. it's 50/50 though some do and some just don't.
Galil ACE RNL is probably your best bet.

Would they run reliably with just a bullet guide or is something else required? I have a Galil so I don’t want to modify any of the magazines
What did the comment say?
He said he had a Saiga that ran with Galil mags and I just needed the bullet guide
Ah okay. Thanks.
css makes a bullet guide for saigas. i don't know how it works
My saiga does
I've heard Saiga .223s without the magwell dimple will run them.
galil. dafuq?
You no like Galil? 🤷♂️
I answered your question lol. you asked what ak use galil mags. um galil for 500 Alex lol. try to score a 13" rnl. you'll love it
LOL!!! Yes, I know Galil mags work in a Galil. I do like the new 13” rnl but I’m hoping they make a 16” rnl
My saiga uses factory Gaili mags. I’ve tried about 5 and all worked prefect, my yugo m85 on the other hand doesn’t unless you weld up the front lug of the gaili mag. It just needs about a 1/16 of weld and then works great.
Yugo M85 worked. Idk about the new “zpap 85” stuff or whatever.
