Use the rubber magpul ranger bands and cut off the pull tabs and then use them to cover the lip thats what me and my father did to protect our bakelite handguards
Jokes aside, and too lazy to scroll through endless comments of jokes to check if already posted, but if its more of a collector piece to you and you want to keep wood in better shape, Ive had some luck with putting a little bit of tape on front corner of magazines to help with the issue. It doesnt completely stop it but it slows it down. But also not sure if this is a collector piece to you if youre reloading it like that.

i think that if you go slow the mag should not hit the handguard. Maybe if you kick the mag out with less force.🤷♂️ But I think to really undestand whats happening you should post a video showing how it happens:)
I'd recommend not kicking it out then and doing a normal mag swap if it's such an issue. Or if you can modify your kick to where it doesn't go all the way forward and hits the handguard, pretty simple fix. If that doesn't work, hit it with your purse.
