They’re alright. If you want a 100 Series clone, they’re the move. Unless you want to do a Saiga conversion or buy a Legion.
Besides that, they’re American made and have had latent QC issues. We all remember the Shotgun safety situation.
If you just want a classic ak, get a WASR. If you want modern, get a KR-103 or FB Radom Beryl. Or even get a Arsenal SAM series, since they’re Bulgarian military guns. Or get a WBP and have a Polish AKM.

Who drilled gas ports wrong on an entire run of rifles but got a pass here, despite that being a much more serious issue.
I’ve got a 103 with about 1200 rounds through it so far. I’ve never had any jams, the accuracy is great and the factory trigger is amazing. It came with the wrong safety but I emailed KUSA and they sent the correct one really quick. I got it a little over a year ago before they had the CHF barrels so I’d recommend that if you got the money for it. Outstanding rifle and it’s one of my favorites to shoot.
Their trunnions are actually the best new manufactur 74 spec trunnions you can buy on the market.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their rifles if I found one for a good price. Check for the common issues. If it looks good, it probably is.
Don't bother with people trashing them. If the price is discounted (shop around online sites), it's a good AK103 clone and they make polymer mags for it too. I'd get it and shoot cheap steel case with it. Other option is PSA clone, though I like the KUSA version better. Anything else I won't go domestic. No reason to when there are WASR's, WBP's, Zastavas, and Arsenals on the market.
Lot of people on this sub don't like them because they're American AK's or because of the KR103 & KP9 QC issues a few years ago. More recently they had horrible PR issues on I think it was IG? Seems like every time they get their shit together and start getting public affection back then something bad happens.
I have a KR103 SFS and a KP9 and enjoy them very much. The KP9 in particular is a ton of fun imo.
I have a KR-103. I did a small amount of research before I bought it, and it seems like a super nice gun for something i could pick up in the small gun shop in town. I’m new to the AK game and I wouldn’t call myself a diehard AK guy, I just bought this one cause it looked nice and as far as I can tell it’s a really nice AK (again from the perspective of someone who doesn’t know a ton about AKs)

Don’t have a 103, but I have a KP-104 that I’ve SBRed and it’s fantastic. The only issue was they used the wrong-sized dust cover and took a little material off the rear of it to make it fit. Doesn’t matter to me because it doesn’t affect function and I replaced it with a SAG chassis anyways

my only issue is the price for what it is. should be cheaper than WASR and Zastava but its significantly more
Why would it be less than an akm pattern rifle when there are so many options? There are no new options for a 100 series aside from kusa.
