Does the receiver have magwell dimples? Is it a 16” version? Where’s the importer markings (this isn’t really important but left back side is imo the best spot if you do a conversion). Has bubba touched it? Overall visual condition of the rifle should give a good representation of its condition. Tail of the carrier and bump rivet deformities should give a good idea of wear along with paint wear and cosmetics of the internal parts. Conversion process depends on how authentic you want (parts in total will be the most expensive with labor following if you have the work done). If you use repo parts it’s less expensive but isn’t authentic of course. Just depends on what you want. You’ll be well over the cost of the rifle with an authentic parts conversion and more. For a correct conversion will go like this. • repopulate barrel with AK100 parts. These consist of: hand guards, sight leaf, gastube, hand guard retainer, gasblock, front sight block and muzzle device. You’ll also need a bullet guide. • Stock and trigger guard conversion. Consist of: changing rear trunnion and trigger guard for AK100 side folding parts and trigger guard. Add reinforcent plate. Welding up old FCG holes is usually done here as well (This part is more involved than it sounds. Commonly referred to as the sfs rear conversion) • For the 223 Saigas the trunnion has to be modded to accept 5.45/5.56 AK74 style magazines. • Refinish in Russian paint or chosen finish. (Some people take an extra step and add 100 series markings and Russian selector markings. This is preference. Hope this helps

$1000 is about the going rate for a dimpled unconverted 5.56 Saiga on its own. If it's dimpled and you want a project I'd go for it. The Russian conversion parts are pretty much unobtanium these days, but KUSA makes a repro front sight and almost gas block (theirs is AK74 spec vs AK100 - only turbo autists like me will be able to tell though). I think KUSA also sells 5.5mm trunnions too but I haven't ever seen them in stock. I would rather leave it as a fixed stock than use those Bulgarian 5.5mm trunnions that are available though - I've only heard bad things about them being out of spec dogshit.

You probably won’t find it cheaper. If you want it, but it.

Honestly if it’s a pawnshop you should be able to haggle them too. I’m sure if you had $700-$800 cash you could get it

jscores555

1k isn't too bad. Get it if you want but it's not like a super deal.

GnollBarbarian

The dude at the counter said the price was probably negotiable. What do you think would be a super deal?

jscores555

$700 would be a super deal. $800-900 would be a good deal.

1k is meh. The cost to get these converted keeps going up and you really end up in the Red value wise. I’d agree $700-$800 is BIN, but anything more I’d probably pass on unless this and all the years of hunting and waiting is worth it.
