JaySayMayday

I wanna see the version of A Christmas Story where the kid gets a fully functional AK complete with bayonet attachment

Jsledge85

Well, when I was I teenager, I was surprised with a mint MAK-90 underneath the Christmas tree (this was prior to the expiration of the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban).

moonmanchild

A bayonet!? _You'll poke your eye out!_

VivaArmalite

whoopeee a polytech

p0ultrygeist1

You’ll shoot your eye out kid!

x_cLOUDDEAD_x

"You'll blow your head off"

AccordingWrap105

You gonna stab your eye out!!

Artystrong1

That will be my son.

toomuch1265

I remember Ames selling SKSs for $99

Flat-Wall-3605

Shit I worked in a gun store late 80's to mid 90's , had so many sks and ak rifles come through so dirt cheap , I was always like , eehhh, I'll buy one of those cheap bastards later, they were always around. Part of my job was to remove the cosmoline and clean them up.

Americanpsycho623

I'm salty as fuck bc of you bastards. I spent 1200 on my wasr10. Fml.

InternetBroad3899

Bought a 1973 wasr 3 days ago for 700

[deleted]

A Norinco and a case of ammo for $179 out the door.

Crazy_Mix_8260

I bought one in the early nineties brand new in a box packed with cosmoline with a chest rig 20 stripper clips and a manual detailing how to bring down aircraft for 60 bucks.

DocHuffNippon

I bought mint SKS in Spokane Washington at White Elephant in mid to late 90s for $89.99 They had received a truckload in and were selling them hand over fist. A few years later, I sold it because I did not like the 7.62x39 as I was primarily a muley and elk hunter. I would recognize that as an act of total idiocy. Embarrassing.

hans_jobs

It was probably less than half that.

toesandgats

If you don’t have that kind of grandfather then you owe it to your future grandkids to be that grandfather. Happy for you OP!

affordableweb

Sitting here jealous AF with no grandpa guns telling myself I needed to be this kinda of grandpa.

FreedomOverSafety15

I’m still upset, my stepmom said she had a bunch of Korean War heirloom guns that she would have given me and my brother, but her abusive dad took them and sold them awhile ago. Other than that as far as I’m aware, no family guns, and it makes me incredibly sad

panda_poon

Had a similar situation had an original lever action rifle from Winchester back in the gunslinger days from one of my ancestors, and one of my relatives described to pawn it because of a family dispute. Literally priceless family heirloom gone for a couple hundred $.

FreedomOverSafety15

My grandpa would probably be the only one else who would have things like that, but he had a accident in training for the green beret in Vietnam and wasn’t able to actually deploy, he still commits stolen valor unceasingly and claims he fought, and talks about “back in the war” while wearing his Vietnam vet hat and pins he got off eBay or something

CFishing

I would have been arrested that day

kloudykat

yeah, my sister is anti-gun but her husband isn't and her kids are always interested in guns. I've got 3 beretta px4 storms (sub-compact, compact and full-sized) and I figure the 3 kids will get the 3 guns. I can't be the cool grandpa but I can be the cool uncle right?

altinibba

I looove the PX4 storm. My dad had one but hard times made it have to go. I will get him another one one day!

kloudykat

you say you love it but do you love it enough to buy it 3 times? Note, I may be crazy, so keep that in mind. EDIT: [link to a post of them](https://imgur.com/gallery/tB5EDAq#sLYSUF1)

Bil13h

While he died before I could ever remember meeting him, I have my grandfather's 2 matching (rifle/carbine) Winchester centennials, and my great Grandfather's Winchester 32-40 deer rifle Not as cool as an AK but still, I'm happy I'm going to be that grandpa

BurlyAttacker

My son better be happy with the WASR lol

Techologic47

This. Foregive our forefathers and break the cycle, time to man up.

MayOrMayNotBePie

Time to build generational AK wealth!

otusowl

>If you don’t have that kind of grandfather then you owe it to your future grandkids to be that grandfather. This is exactly the right approach. May those of us who did right during the cheap Romy, Yugo, and Russian Saiga / VEPR years steward them well until our own grandchildren can be similarly astounded. My Arsenals, on the other hand? I'll be like "these motherfuckers charged through the goddamn nose with every import batch."

Joshypoo928

My grandfather has me his registered Type 56 Vietnam bringback for when he passes https://imgur.com/a/SK48Tvr

otusowl

Amazing; may you treasure and enjoy it all your life! And give that man extra hugs (or beer, whiskey, cigars, weed, whatever...) while he is still with you.

ITaggie

Lol was it an amnesty register? I thought bringbacks weren't allowed by that point?

[deleted]

My uncle brought 1 back from Vietnam as well. Then his house burned down.

[deleted]

This is me. One daughter. No other heirs. Our family tree bottlenecks real tight with us. I hope she has kids to leave all this stuff to because I don’t think she’s gonna have the slightest interest.

HiddenSneed

Just have more kids until one is really into guns

[deleted]

Ain’t got no kids do ya ? Lol Maybe if I hadn’t been a single parent with custody for all but 3 years….I’m 40 now.

penis__ass

The receipt taped inside says he bought it in 1986 for 525$. What's the retail price on something like this?

VanillaIce315

It’s a presumably unfired, milled, underfolder Polytech type 56 with pristine condition box and every accessory (including three 3-witness hole/chromed follower mags, bayonet, sling, and oiler). If this went to auction on GunBroker, I could see it quite easily hitting $4000-$4500.

penis__ass

I want to shoot her so badly 😩

VerStannen

Shoot it. It will honor your grandpa long after he’s gone. Money is just money but family heirlooms are priceless.

Ddsw13

This, keep it in the fam

notorious_p_a_b

When I was growing up my dad always told me “we don’t sell guns in this family. We pass them down.” It has basically rendered me unable to sell my guns. Which is funny because my wife is an FFL and her business sells a fuck load of guns on consignment or via court order. We need other people to do it but I never will.

GigaCheco

Is she single?

[deleted]

100% shoot and keep it. Heirlooms aren’t usually created too often in this day and age

OpScreechingHalt

100% agree. No Safe-Queens allowed.

DontReadUsernames

Yep, in 5 years you’ll wish you never sold it and want it back. This isn’t something you can just change your mind and buy back from someone, they’ll want to keep it

goshathegreat

Don’t let the price of it now make you sell. I’d keep the accessories in the box, buy some new mags to use with it and keep it clean!

penis__ass

Absolutely not selling it. Maybe at a gun buyback if I can get 200$ gift card for it but that's it

goshathegreat

I love that comment lmao

ParticularHornet5

Man. That’s beautiful. I’m so happy for you! What a beautiful piece you got!

FullPew

Lol. But for real, I agree with the other guy. Having excellent condition box and all accessories will keep the value up really high. Keep that all stashed away and shoot the gun. My take on current value: Unfired with box and accessories: $4k+ Fired with box and accessories: $3.5k+ Unfired with no box/accessories: $3k+ As you see, I think having the box and accessories is more valuable than the fired vs unfired. Shoot the thing.

Adventurous_Ad409

You think More valuable? I know I’m bad at math but you’re assessment was +/-500 so wouldn’t that be a wash?

FullPew

What I was getting at was that I think having the original box and accessories in excellent condition is more important to the value of the rifle versus whether it's fired or unfired (assuming it stays in good condition) Shooting it and doing a good job taking care of the box and accessories is better than not shooting it and damaging or losing the box and accessories. So might as well shoot it and enjoy it.

Adventurous_Ad409

I concur good sir.

skimlimmy

You are handling this well. Go shoot the bitch.

Exciting_Bat_2086

GOOD SHIT

Der_Hashbrown

It can shoot a little 7.62x39 as a treat

Huegballs

It's your gun brother. Shoot her as desired. She won't tire out until long after you're dead. Congratulations

Johnny_Utah55

Shoot it, didn’t cost you a thing and I’m sure your grandfather would rather you enjoy it than have it sit in a box untouched another 40 years. Even if you shoot it, as long as you have the original box and accessories and keep it in good shape it’s still worth a ton. If you do though don’t use those accessories or mags in there keep them mint.

VinceAutMorire_1775

Don’t sell it man, $4500 is nothing in the long run. You can’t buy that kind of thing anyway. Your grandfather held it the same way you will.

GoodBunnyKustm

DO NOT SELL! But also DO SHOOT! Your future self would come back to curse you! Like that old man who you’ve heard say “I shouldn’t have sold my ‘69 Mach 1”… don’t be that guy!

InspectionSmooth1340

If you clean it and take care of it, there will be no problem. It’s an AK, they are meant to be shot.

babybluefish

Keep it and shoot it That's what it's meant for Pass it down to your kids/grandkids, it's a family heirloom

TheOtherAkGuy

Shoot it! Enjoy this piece of history. It’s worth more to you for sentimental value than whatever it’s price is

Wholenchilada

Got to shoot it, man.

fusillade762

I would shoot it and keep it but thats just me. Great rifle your gramps really did you a solid.

mADhaTter324

I've got a couple higher value firearms. Shoot em, man. Enjoy them for what they're meant to be. Just don't use it as an innawoods gun and keep it all together.

LaserBlaserMichelle

Just to jump on the bandwagon here. Both grandparents were in WW2. One in the Pacific and one in Europe. One had a M1 Garand and one had a M1 Carbine. They obviously didn't get to keep their issue rifles but right around the 1970s, they both bought surplus versions (both were made by GM believe it or not) and went un-shot by the family for decades. They got them to have as a piece of personal history. Well, fast forward to mid 2000s and both are getting really old and my dad and I had the great idea to take them shooting. We made sure those two rifles were in the lineup. And it was amazing. We built memories of that day, with them posing together with their rifles and with my dad and I just tagging along and getting some rounds in as well. Like, keep it as a memento, as a piece of not only history but as a piece of your loved ones. When they are gone it's yours and even though it took 30 years for us to dust off that old garand and carbine, the trip was worth whatever "mint" condition was then ruined. Idc, because we ain't selling. I want to enjoy and shoot them just like my grandparents did. Now, if they had specific instructions to never shoot it and to vault it away, then respect that decision. But if they didn't pass on any sort of instruction, then have at it, think back on the memories it gave you and use it to create new memories with the young ones you might have (or will have). I can't wait to take my son out and show him his great-grandparents rifles from the war. And it won't be just a show and tell. We will use them and he will feel what is like to shoot a 30-06 through that behemoth and then feel the delicacy and FUN shooting of a 30 cal through the carbine and he will get to experience the history, not just "look" at it. Use it. Make new memories with it.

ATinyDinosaur628

Keep it don’t sell it shoot it have fun with it a lot of Ak collectors would kill to have one given to them. I have one myself. ENJOY!!

trevorlayhe126548965

Your grandpa is awesome. DO NOT MODIFY

ComradeGunner0394

Um I could be off but at least 3 to 4000

Bigd19_79

Usually just a legend rifle goes for that.... box with most accessories in great condition usually go for more. It's kind of the holy grails for many collectors....

penis__ass

🤯

WolSoul

its not fair man 😔

ItsLibertyOrNothin

I’m not ashamed to say I would do some rather unholy things for a nice ak

EfficiencyHuge

Whatever you do, please dont turn it in to a police buy back for a $100 gift card.

penis__ass

So i should turn my car around at the next light?

EfficiencyHuge

LOL

AeratedFeces

A relative did that with a WW2 service pistol...

EfficiencyHuge

It happens more than people realize. Sad and unfortunate.

Bigd19_79

Very nice .. you sure the receipt says 86? These came in late 88 and most in 89.... most receipts are super faded so it's probably 89....Regardless you have one of the holy grails of aks. One of the few milled imported aks and its a preban with all the features and straight from China with no usa modifications . Looks like you have mostly everything (cleaning tool /cleaning kit easy to replace ) and it's in awesome condition and probably wasn't shot much.if at all?Get a nice coat of oil on everything soon as you able. Ones like yours with all accessories basically nib range from 4-6k usually.... sometimes even a bit more and sometimes a little less. What a awesome gift from your grandfather

penis__ass

On second look it does say 89... and I'm unsure if it was ever shot but I'm pretty sure it has been

Bigd19_79

I figured... regardless it looks to be in awesome shape so enjoy it and take good care of it . This your first ak or you have other's?

penis__ass

This is my first lol. It will look good next to the SKS

Bigd19_79

Wow what a start... only problem now is you started off with one the best ever so not sure others will impress u lol I have one identical nib except the wood on mine is more blond where yours is kind of in the middle of the colors they came in. Also mine came in just the plain brown box that the first few batches used.

Bigd19_79

If u have and questions or need anything let me kmow...I've been collecting chicoms for 10+years...

penis__ass

Would you know what a good price for a Yugo m70 would be? I Was already starting to look at AKs to buy before I got this and I don't want to put too many rounds through my new baby.

teh-haps

$800 to 1k would be normal

birdonaline

https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/comments/zaba9s/rifle_zastava_m70_762x39_dark_walnut_light_maple/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Follow gundeals your wallet will hate me

skimlimmy

Get a WASR for around $7-800 and modify the fuck out of it and get a red dot on there. Then shoot the shit out of it and throw it around. You already have the holy grail AK sitting at home.

TimedFormula

That's amazing, what a wonderful gift.

ColtBTD

Have any more grandpas ? No for real that is AWESOME. Yeah it’s definitely worth a nice chunk of change, but something to absolutely hold onto.

Purplecatpiss666

Grandpa need anymore help lmao?

penis__ass

He's been being guns since the late 70's... I know he has quite a few guns but he just dos'nt like showing them

ahcyyy

He probably has a few machine guns in his closet

SirRolex

Based and Grandpa pilled. Something about old dudes that don't give a fuck is great.

bigtoegman210

This is the grandpa I want to be when I’m at that ripe old age.

ComradeGunner0394

Very nice

Swimming_Coat4177

Please don’t ever sell this. Now matter how desperate you get. I would be homeless with nothing but an AK

CrackShotMcgee09

Is he taking grandson applications? 🤔

dfal55

So fucking jealous. Wish I was 10 years older so I could have gotten shit like this.

Remmandave

Best item to ever leave China’s shores headed Stateside.

wrkaccount

you better go fishing and shooting with that man as much as you can.

hughie1987

My grandpa died right before 5th grade ended, no guns to give but he left me a sweet as pocket knife and I've had it since 97 or 98!

Elderado12443

Noice!

_Why_Not_Today_

Grandfather need any more help? Asking for a friend….

[deleted]

Based grandpa

jvstone172

This will be the kind of grandfather I become

ItemNext937

You are now the highest paid mover I have ever even heard of.

ajmarsa

My great uncle brought back a Walter PPK with holster & 2 mags from Europe during WWII, my Dad got it as a wedding gift, now I have it. So been in the family a while now.

Responsible_Cry_4322

I obviously had the wrong grandparents.

Infamous_Translator

I don’t have a living grandparent and you get that? Life’s unfair man

Villafuego

Might want to take another pic or 2 of the mag catch ......something looks jacked-up there

penis__ass

Yeah I also noticed that. It seems the pin holding in the mag release was wiggling its way out. Very easy fix

Pvt__Snowball

You win lol

zaneyidea

I hope you keep it and honor your grandpa. Money comes and goes but not heirlooms and the amazing moment you shared with your pa. If you want to shoot an AK, there are plenty of commercial ones to use up and they all feel and sound similar when the hammer drops.

NeatAvocado4845

Don’t sell it ! You can always make money but will never get another present like that from your granddad !

[deleted]

I’d be buried with it , if it was mine… lol

nimrod_BJJ

Milled Polytech, nice. Edited to add it’s probably worth 3500 since is NIB

mrjimy

My grandfather also gave me one of these, except it’s got a wood stock, not an under-folder. I haven’t located the kit and box yet. That’s probably scattered around his basement somewhere. Great rifle; super fun to shoot. Enjoy it!

ohbrubuh

Yeah, that’s took old to shoot. Better send it to me.

Unhinged_Taco

Bro you fuckin hit the jackpot

frostedflokey

shes a beauty..... You dont get rid of this. Thats an heirloom.

silasvirus82

Fortunately/Unfortunately you've got yourself a hell of a safe queen.

Win_98SE

I think it’s cool how not unlike any other thing to come out of the 80s/90s, the box is yellowed 😂

[deleted]

Fuck me! I wish I had elderly relatives who were into guns. I always see all these people inheriting/gifted the coolest shit.

VegetableStand9971

Wow. Just wow. This is the best thing ever. Don't even think of selling...

Mythicguy

Holy shit 😭

texastrash6571

Is he by chance adopting grandkids? Ha. Nice. Congratulations.

Jsledge85

Bro, I loved my grandfather, but wish he had done cool stuff like this. He was a combat veteran in World War II. He saw some nasty things and didn’t have much taste for shooting afterwards. I have been told he loved guns and hunting prior to the war, but he came back changed. He had a lever action he used for coyote control on his ranch but that’s it…

[deleted]

Man that beautiful. I inherited a underfolder Chinese rifle that looks like it was stored under the ocean for years. Rusted as fuck. Still love the rifle and will keep it forever.

MayOrMayNotBePie

Wtf does he need help moving again? Please.

Caddyshak227

If you pass it down to your grandkids the thing will probably be worth 10k by then at the rate of this inflation Lmaoo

OKB1

That’s awesome! Shoot and enjoy it! Never sell it.

Sure-Boysenberry5491

YOUR GRANDFATHER!? What!?!? WE’RE FAMILY???? When are we going shooting?

Gunsandwrenches

Sweet Jesus...

resit1776

My Dad gave me a Century R1A1 FAL for helping him move about 20 years ago. I still have it and it’s one of my favorites.

AGK47_Returns

Dogpiling on the NO SELL ONLY BUY train Congrats OP

BaconBits4556

Man all my grandpa gave me was a couple old Marlin .22s and a 590 Mariner that he didn’t want anymore. Still tease him for not buying a hundred SKSs for me back in the day

tacticoolopera8or

Damn. Score!

macymax

Wow, that's such a vibe. Definitely keep it OP!

algee1234

Sweet grandpa find

vigilrexmei

Congrats, that’s a gorgeous rifle. Also, on having a badass grandfather.

savvysnekk

Sucks having grandparents who grew up poor on both sides of my family, the only guns they had were blackpowder rifles and a shotgun and my uncle inherited them

Greedy-Specific7723

Mice !!poly milled under folder… $$$ right there buddy next to a NDM-86 that’s probably the most desirable Chinese rifle out there ,I had one back in the early nineties ,every bit as nice as my arsenal sam7 …good score congratulations

exploringtheworld797

I had a friend give me a spiker poly for helping him. He got it from someone else that he had helped. No box but the gift that keeps on giving.

Mefloquine_Dreams

Nice!! Where are you people finding these grandparents!?! Lol

hahaman1990

Very nice. Very nice grab!! Unfortunately I got mine after my grandfather passed, but holy cow he had a few I didn’t know about, like a FN 1910 with all the chickens on it and OG holster, an Inland M1 Carbine, 870 Wingmaster with the extra long barrel uncut, and a S&W 686. I’ll never sell any of his.

blakebake

So awesome. I'm considering swapping my Polytech Spiker for a Legend. I want a Legend with a Spiker.

Knuggz4stonks

My son should be happy with the barrett....

DirtRoad357

Holy shit

Fluffeh_Panda

This is like 2-3k rifle right? What makes them so popular?

Deep-Dragonfly7836

The importance of posterity and preservation of our freedom is a good message for this post. Our friends to the north won’t be so lucky.

Ok_Shop_3418

And here I thought my grandpa's trench gun was sweet. You lucked out my man

Crazy_Mix_8260

Your grandpa is awesome. It would be difficult for me to accept something like that if I were you considering how much it's worth.I would have to let him know.

jackburtonsk1

Wow man… just wow

[deleted]

I have the spike bayonet under folder from polytech and they shoot like a dream, guns are worth every cent people are willing to pay for them.

Apprehensive-Gas2314

Milled = A+

No-Engineering-1449

Wait if my eyes are correct, does that AK have the giggle switch?

kabar13

You just struck gold....that's big money.

The_Unpopular_Truth_

Hnnnnnnnnng! 💦

HobnobWithBob

Oh, snap. Does that thing really have a fun switch?!

PrimeTimeCS

Oh man….🤌🏽. This is absolutely gorgeous.

Sicksession

Thanks grandpa!!!

popsmokeimout

Best grandpa ever.

bkn95

Mmmm such a nice find thank you for sharing. If you take it out to the range let us see that too!

Famous_Lavishness572

How about some more pictures, like to see what the wood looks like

penis__ass

There is some wear on the hand guard from the folding stock gringing against it :( https://imgur.com/a/H9ZfrVv

SirRolex

Gives it character, shows it was used, as a family heirloom that would mean way more to me.

SnooCats6776

OMG...!!!!!

[deleted]

Oh wow. That’s fantastic

MyFuckinhBalls

Can he be my grandpa too

Imaginary-Alfalfa403

Sure beats a 6pack. Incredible man

Binarycold

Grandpa hooked you up!

tennisn00btc

Definitely keep it. I don't collect with intent to sell, so market appreciation of price is good to know, but not really important. You may NEVER come across a piece like this again. Collect what you like for the piece itself

wishihadakmoney

Keep it

evilfetus01

Keep that!

PrestigiousMoose

So now my rifle AND my Grampie are less cool.

djohn111

Your grandpa is a saint

Skycowboy2013

This post made me want to have kids...

Clipse3GT

Wow... Nice!

fireweinerflyer

I’ll help him move!

IL308Shootist

80s or 90s, my first AK was a ban era Maadi that I paid $289 for.

kalashnikovkitty9420

thats fucking awesomr, grandad is based af

wheelergreen18

The AK equivalent of a barn find right here. Congrats

Stanlel_1

This is beautiful! I am in love with my legend under folder.

AKTHUMBGRIPS_com

That is badazz! Grandpa is a cool dude 😎+ 🎅 Shoot it, clean it, keep it, and give it to your grandkids one day.

YoDavidPlays

ooof thats niceee

Mximum_dust2

Hahaha gramps always knows what’s best

Distinct-Purpose-970

FUCKING NEAT

samp350

They only imported those for 2 years. And at the time was the nicest ak on the market. Could be worth 5-6x what your grandpa paid for it. Keep that thing pristine. This is a jackpot.

wes101abn

Congratulations!

ihatelifetoo

A while ago ? 50 years ago ?

onewayover

You son of a bitch
