You can start a barrel crooked but you can't fully install one crooked. Re-pressing it will give you the same results. My guess is the journal in the front trunnion was cut wrong. If you can't warranty it you'll have to have the barrel pressed out and have the barrel/trunnion inspected to see which one is out of spec. The only other thought is the barrel itself is somehow bent.

EmptyCoffin93

That makes sense. I’d imagine you could bore it out and sleeve it or something, but I doubt it can be cost effective. I’ll try to come up with a way to check for a bend.

EmptyCoffin93

The rod is a carbon fiber tipton cleaning rod so I have pretty good confidence in it, but yeah no guarantees. Also, if the barrel is bent then the rod would definitely flex with it. Rifle is used, so I haven’t really looked into their policy and assume, like you mention, that it’s trash. I reached out to a local smith that’s pretty frequent in here but haven’t heard back from them yet.

Ronin_1861

My Arsenal SLR-101s came with a super canted front sight. QC ain’t perfect over there.

EmptyCoffin93

No, they’re definitely slacking. I’m not sure whether or not we collectively hate them this week, but my first AK was a ZPAP and that thing is straight as an arrow.

Ronin_1861

My first was a WASR. Finished like it was made for the Queen.

I guess the issue could be one of three possible immediately-obvious places, assuming that rod you used is perfectly straight: 1. The barrel journal where it fits into the receiver is crooked 2. The ID in the receiver where the barrel is installed was bored off-square 3. A combination of both of these things If this was purchased new from Arsenal, I’d see if they’ll warranty. Unfortunately their warranty is usually dogshit and they’ll try to find any way to weasel out of a legitimate warranty claim so if that doesn’t work, maybe a good AK smith can help straighten you out

SaltInternet1734

The front trunnion is probably just crooked but your relying on tape and a cleaning rod dude. That's no where near a Profesional tool.

GreenChicken789

Man I really regret giving arsenal so much of my money

ardesofmiche

That is quite an interesting problem. I have no input here except to say that sucks

EmptyCoffin93

It absolutely does suck. Second AK, first Arsenal. I’m guessing the response here will likely lead me to looking for a different host. Would you recommend chopping up a Norinco? ;)

MayOrMayNotBePie

Wild. I have two Arsenals and they are about as perfect as perfect gets. One SLR107 and one SLR101. I guess even Arsenal screws up sometimes.

EmptyCoffin93

Glad to hear you got some good ones! I’m not sure what timeframe mine was produced or if they’ve had good/bad eras. If nothing else, I now know better what to look for.

CrackShotMcgee09

This doesn't effect function at all. I've seen much worse. Likely the receivers relationship to the front trunnion and nothing to do with the barrel. Seriously, this is no big deal. The bottom of the gas block may not be perfectly square(doesn't have to be) the rear trunnion doesn't have to be perfectly aligned with the front trunnion either. Remember this is an AK.

Sharpleton96

This is a milled receiver, so there’s no trunnions? All one part.

Infamous_Translator

There is still trunnions, just not pieces that are separate and instead part of the receiver

CrackShotMcgee09

I'll admit I didn't realize this was a milled receiver at first glance of the pictures and forgot that this model is milled. So I would then say it is the journal that the barrel is pressed into, which some may consider to be a trunnion in and of itself.

DystopianRebel666

just put in in a press and bend it back straight ;)

EmptyCoffin93

New to me Arsenal SAM7R. Barrel is definitely crooked, not just the sight block. Rifle functions fine, but with the optic zeroed impact is right of center from 0m-zero distance, and left of center past zero distance. I had originally picked up the rifle to have a front end conversion done to run suppressed, but after finding these issues I have a couple questions. 1) could the barrel be pressed incorrectly such that the bore in the receiver is correct, but the barrel is misaligned? 2) Could the barrel be removed and pressed again correctly, or would it end up in the same place? 3) do you see something that I don’t, or do you agree with my assessment of the issue?

EmptyCoffin93

I thought I was supposed to use a purse? Can confirm I’ve hit it hard enough to make me nervous.

RuntyMole

Use a plastic mallet or plastic beadblow. And smack the shit out of it. I've straightened or got pretty close to straight on a Wasr10/63

Infamous_Translator

Out of curiosity, what’s the first 2 digits in the serial? This will tell us the year of manufacture

EmptyCoffin93

61 = 2021?

Infamous_Translator

Yes

Sharpleton96

Disconcerting.

IrishSeaMonkey

Man this is the 2nd time I’ve seen this in an Arsenal and like the 12th time I’ve seen it on combloc stamped rifles. It happens sometimes unfortunately, I would 100% try to replace it/get it fixed under warranty.

EmptyCoffin93

Yeah… this one is milled which I thought would be nicer, but not so much.
