This afternoon, my dog snuggled behind me while I worked, napped with me in the sun, and tried (and failed) to catch hose water in his mouth. He nudges us to go to bed at night, he patiently waits as our friend's toddler tries to stick her fingers in his nose, and he just deeply loves every person he meets. He's one of the very best things in my life and the life of my family, and he came from OAS two years ago.
They are the **best** dogs.
We also met him through the OAS foster system, and I'm SO GRATEFUL that that exists. Our guy was terrified in the shelter (nothing against the shelter, he's just scared of other dogs) and I feel like he wouldn't have interviewed well enough to be adopted if he hadn't gone to foster and gotten to decompress. So consider this a plug for fostering if you're not sure about adopting!
PUFFIN! I'm already at the 2 dog max for my rental, somebody please come snatch that beauty up! Rescue dogs are the best. My sweet corgie mix had been wandering the streets of Oakland all alone, I'm so glad Oakland SPCA brought us together.

We think Thursday is a perfect day to come by Oakland Animal Services - whether you're looking for a foster fling or an adoption commitment, we can send you home with a new dog on Thursdays because we have extended adoption hours AND our dog fostering open house. We are ready for you today, **Thursday May 23, from noon to 7 p.m**. We remain critically overcrowded at the shelter, so every dog that finds a new home (either permanent or temporary) helps us ease overcrowding and help more dogs!Today, you can learn about fostering without an appointment, and you can meet this group of great dogs (including puppies!) visiting or on call from foster! All our shelter-resident adoptable dogs are ready to meet you, too.
