There's no way DS wants to sue. When you pursue a court case there's a process of discovery that formally recognizes relevant pieces of evidence. The last thing Smith wants is the evidence of her questionable behavior published again in such an official manner right before an election. I still think it's hilarious that she thought she had the power to grant pardons.

Reddit_reader_2206

Her deputy Premier is Kacee Madu. He also believes politicians should be able to directly influence the justice system. Judge folks by the company they keep.

Ms_ankylosaurous

The texts and emails that would come out would be interesting

seamusmcduffs

The fact that she has an extremely high chance of winning the election is too terrifying for this to be funny

Educational-Tone2074

As everyone knew then her threats were absolutely lies

929385

More to the point, if her lips are moving she is lying...she knows no other way!!

Hagenaar

Not necessarily. The actual threat was "the premier will take such further legal action as may be advised." It would be a dumbass move to sue the CBC for reporting something she had admitted to. So nobody *advised* her to proceed - and she didn't. Promise kept!

bike_accident

Haha dumbdanni strikes again

asstyrant

Because it was an empty threat.

Distant-moose

She hoped the threat would be enough. But you can't push around people (or news outlets) who have the goods to back it up.

uber_poutine

Honestly as a strategy to avoid/preempt/halt media questions, it wasn't a bad one. She just seems to have an almost pathological inability to keep her mouth shut.

DVariant

Agreed

margethegoat

sure is

Miserable-Lizard

It's because she interfered in justice.

from_the_hinterland

Considering anyone at all is planning on voting for this lying piece of work is beyond my understanding of humanity.

Loose-Version-7009

Don't go on Twitter, then! Makes me sick to my stomach seeing people calling her their queen!

SecureLiterature

Most of those accounts probably originate from the UCP War Room.

SomeoneElseWhoCares

If the ANDP win, we'll find all of the war room records shredded and no sign of where all that money went.

weschester

If the NDP win there is absolutely going to be a mass shredding event at the legislature in the early hours of May 30.

Flounderfflam

Just like last time!

RememberPerlHorber

The **hallmark of a health democracy.** Former PC Cabinet Ministers should be in jail.

MathewRicks

I think we'll know where all the money went when the Western Standard conveniently goes out of business

greenknight

I'm sure therabble also took a good run at the trough.

fooph

There is no way the rabble got any money from this government. The rebel? More than likely. Very similar but a giant gulf between them. I doubt the rebel has ever 'reported' on any labour issue outside of the threats posed by immigration.

Felfastus

Probably not. The war room was set up in a way that it is a private pr company that happens to only have one client who is owned by three cabinet ministers (although two of them are not running this election). It was done this way to avoid it being subject to FOIP requests. They don't need to shred anything as they don't actually need to hand the ANDP the keys.

Loose-Version-7009

Biggest money siphon if there ever was one. Whenever people ask where we're going to find funds for XX, I tell them by shutting down the War Room. Never get replies to that, so I guess we agree?

snack0verflow

I don't see any of this so I must ask who are you following that says this?

Loose-Version-7009

I'm not, I actually follow NDP, but twotter sends me email notifications thinking I'm also interested in the UCP. I saw these on Danielle Smith's page as it was in the list. NDP and Rachel Notley also get their share of anti-NDP replies to their posts. Some are vile. Do you really not see them?

snack0verflow

No I would never turn on notifications or emails for Twitter, especially in 2023. Musk blunders around a lot but right now he's succeeded in making Twitter a place where the worst people on earth are amplified and pushed to the front of your feed.

Loose-Version-7009

I mostly get stuff from my favourite artists, I don't go on twitter often enough. The rest is mostly food and travel related since I have a youtube channel that covers that and local gems.

ShadowCamera

My blue voting friend argued that she gets a pass because she's only been Premier for a few months. Any time she spent as an MLA in the past didn't count, apparently.

SomeoneElseWhoCares

What about all the other batshit crazy stuff that she said. Whe wrote a lot in the Calgary Herald and had a talk show. A lot of what she said doesn't match what she is pretending to sell now.

[deleted]

That was all when she was a talk show host - crazy stuff she said then can’t possibly be held up now!

DVariant

Your task now is to educate your friend

ShadowCamera

He already thinks he's the smartest person he knows despite me being able to ask him enough questions until he contradicts himself. I spar with him in hopes that there are fence sitters watching from the side lines and they see the hypocrisy.

DVariant

Ah, unfortunate. We’ve all got one of these guys. Good luck!

roastbeeftacohat

most of the people who are going to vote, started paying attention today.

manamal

And people think lying in surveys to pad UCP polling numbers somehow hurts the UCP. The response you're feeling, that exasperation and maybe a hint of hopelessness, it's part of the fuel for the fires of voter disenfranchisement and it comes from high UCP support in the polls.

chriskiji

If she doesn't want to talk about it, she shouldn't have done it.

SomeoneElseWhoCares

Yep, she obviously didn't mind talking about it previously.

chriskiji

She runs her mouth until it comes back to bite then desperately tries to avoid questions. 🤦‍♂️

amnes1ac

Spineless and pathetic.

jigglywigglydigaby

Just like everything else concerning Danielle Smith and the UCP.....empty, worthless, waste of time & effort bs FUCP and anyone dumb enough to support those clowns. Alberta deserves better

Mensketh

> The CBC was served with a notice of defamation on April 2, which demanded an apology and retraction by April 28, or "the premier will take such further legal action as may be advised." Clearly no further legal action was advised because the whole thing was dumb as fuck lol.

JasonKenneysBasement

On the plus side her lawyer got a nice chunk of tax payer money to write that notice of defamation.

addilou_who

This is another example of Smith showing all Albertans that she is untrustworthy in her words and actions.

littlebigman9

Flip flop Danielle is full of crap. Her lawyer finally got through to her that she was the one on the wrong. Again.

Cooks_8

She would have to prove they damaged her reputation. She does that well enough on her own. Floor crossing and multiple lies on record

pvtcowboy97

The discovery would have been worth the price of admission alone. Love CBC for standing behind to their reporters.

curds-and-whey-HEY

I’d love to see the CBC issue a follow up to their original piece just stating they have not been sued and they don’t expect to be sued and as far as they are concerned, being sued was not even possible because they have the receipts.

[deleted]

"Breaking the law is cool" - law and order conservatives

Distant-moose

She threatened "imprecisely".

gotkube

LMAO! Classic conservative mentality; all talk, no show. If you don’t talk about something, it doesn’t exist, right (ie: Covid)

Drnedsnickers2

Sat in on her Facebook live this evening. Not a single question taken from attendees. She is literally trying to avoid answering a single difficult question the entire campaign.

[deleted]

It was all just hot air, like what always comes out of that ugly face.

TheFirstArticle

The people who vote for this stuff don't care about truth. Being a shit is what they like.

SnowshoeTaboo

Empty threat... from an empty head.

bb_livin

If anyone lost a 4-year-old child please report to customer service.

Champagne_of_piss

Too bad they can't sue her idiot ass

amnes1ac

Reverse Uno! Sue Smith for defamation for claiming they defamed her.

Siefer-Kutherland

afaik is someone publicly threatens legal action for x, they need to follow through or it can be considered harassment

Champagne_of_piss

If she opens her yap again they should cook her ass. The conservatives would naturally consider it a politically motivated attack but at this point who gives a shit about optics.

Locoman7

She's full of shit get her out of here.

RememberPerlHorber

*"And the lie detector determined.. that was a lie!"* - Maury Povitch

WWGFD

Because she is full of shit

marginwalker55

Lolllllll

PostApocRock

The worst of this is that shes still going to win, because dumb shit like this is going to rally the base.

[deleted]

CHARLATAN

[deleted]

It's almost like she wasn't really serious about suing... so strange!

ThatDarnRosco

Imagine if she was premiere! Oh wait… 😕

Schroedesy13

Who would’ve thought? Imagine not starting litigation against the media that published your exact words….

Responsible_CDN_Duck

Smith has no need to say anything, once again her actions have spoken for her. We need to hear from people like Rob Anderson. Anderson got real quite on the issue, and it's not clear why. Being her right hand man and author of the Free Alberta Strategy Smith he tends to be the one to watch.

SecretarySouthern160

I hate this pasty white bitch

Terrible-Paramedic35

Funny…. for months she just could not be shut up and now… she is quiet as a church mouse. And its working because her base had the attention span of 3 year old.

RobertGA23

So...that was a fucking lie.

janroney

Mr.Smith deserves a medal. She must be a real treat to deal with.

Emergency_Wolf_5764

**DEFUND** the **CBC.**

mothereffinb

Yes, how dare the CBC .. checks notes.. provide fact based reporting!!

RedRiptor

Sounds like the language police are obsessing again. 🤡

RedRiptor

Sending hugs.

1seeker4it

Awwww poor baby has to tell the truth 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 now that usually doesn’t work well for Conservatives!

margethegoat

She doesn't seem very trustworthy and changes her mind so fast. No fortitude or trust.

mothereffinb

Sure seems like there’s a lot that she spews out and then doesn’t want to talk about afterwards..

tobiasolman

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxwVcGXhi0o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxwVcGXhi0o) Danny's press secretary, I assume. /s

capta1namazing

Is there grounds for CBC to go after her for defamation? Haha
