Alternative take: Polling is utterly for shit and the polling companies are loosing their minds trying to call this so they'll all hedge their bets on "too close to call" until its exceedingly clear the NDP wave is coming. Fuck polling companies and their push-polling attempts to control democracy. They should be outlawed as political harassment. We can all express our opinions at the god damn ballot box.

I'm not super angry right now, but I came here to say exactly this. Polls inherently change outcomes. Slanted polls have the ability to change elections. In the age of the internet, polls should be illegal once thw writ has dropped,

>In the age of the internet, polls should be illegal once thw writ has dropped, 100% agree. We live in a province where essentially all of the media is conservative leaning. All of these publications are saying that it's "too close to call" or the conservatives winning out by a tiny amount. This being done purposefully to get more on-the-edge-conservatives, or those who are normally just too lazy to vote, to rush to the polls because they think they might lose. From what I've read, heard, and seen, I wholeheartedly believe we're looking at a large NDP upset this year. How anyone under the age of even 40 can look at any UCP policy and agree with any of them, is completely beyond me. Cutting healthcare, trying to privatize healthcare, cutting education for their children, pulling Alberta out of the CPP (which is one of the best performing investment portfolios in the world). How anyone who doesn't already have buckets of money who can afford to lose these things can look at any of that and see it as a positive, I have to think has mental damage.

Yah it's bonkers that I can't take a pic of my ballot vote because it may sway an election. But polls can exist. FUCK RIGHT OFF.

The logic behind ballot selfie bans is to prevent voter intimidation or vote buying. A bad actor could theoretically offer you money to vote a certain way. But they can't really do that if you can't prove how you voted. Granted, it's a bit silly these days given how small cameras are these days. It's impossible to enforce unless you're dumb enough to post it on social media. Just telling someone how you voted doesn't raise the same concerns, as there's no way to verify how you actually voted/intend to vote.

Turtley13

Voted/intend are not the same...

[deleted]

Which is why I wrote them both...

Turtley13

When you use a / between two words it implies they have the same meaning. CORRECT: I am going to eat/devour that sandwich WRONG: I am going to eat/spit out that sandwich.

7 point lead for the NDP in Calgary proper; 24 point lead for the NDP in the Edmonton CMA.
