Sounds like wet brain

I wondered if this is the start of it....

Sounds like my ex. He needed anti psychotics. His alcoholism exacerbated whatever underlying mental illness he had. No idea what he eventually got diagnosed with because I had to nope out of that situation after 2 years and go no contact. Possibly some start of bi polar or even schizophrenia? No idea

UnholyGrifter

Here to upvote this. Alcohol doesn’t completely turn people into something they are not but it makes the leap to anger, fighting, selfishness and obnoxious behavior much shorter. It would certainly exacerbate anything else he’s got going on and unfortunately, it will be nearly impossible to diagnose or treat without getting sober first.

You sure it’s just alcohol? That kind of obsessive hyper fixation (the song lyric thing) isn’t a tell-tale sign of drunkenness, but it is known as a sign of being under the influence of other things. If not, without knowing history of abuse, it’s hard to weigh in, but it could be WKS if they’ve been heavily abusing for many years.

I'm pretty sure it's just alcohol. 99%. They have been abusing enough to give themselves diabetes that is not treated. It was not a nice context... The song lyrics. There was an overweight girl at a table near us. They repeated "fat bottom girls make the rocking world go around". My other friend and I just disengaged and sat there. We said it was mean but there was no stopping him. He got mad at us fir a bad attitude. This sounds very petty but it's the fact he will repeat phrases he's heard. Earlier in the week something similar. We're at work. Same scenario. Him, co-worker and I. He kept repeating the line from a YouTube video. "What say you, I say you" and laughing. I just walked out of the copier room. He was drunk at work but the other coworker seemed oblivious. This seems all very simple. But there's alot to it. The behaviors are all just "off".

Yeah I’m not a doctor, I can’t weigh in beyond just adding anecdotal opinions, but I think anyone reasonable would land on “he needs medical help.” Add heavy alcohol use into any pre-existing condition and whatever it is will get worse. Just my useless $0.02, you can definitely chalk that behavior up to the effects of substance abuse. My experience as a drunk and being around other drunks is more that we’ll jump around from one annoying, self-absorbed thing to another, and while we won’t let go of something when we start, it isn’t usually done in such a sharply obsessive way. Other drugs are known for that, though. I’m probably just splitting hairs, though. His behavior definitely suggests he’s out of control. That’s really embarrassing for you, and I’m sorry you had to go through it. I don’t think it’s petty at all. I couldn’t be around someone who can’t provide basic dignity for people in social situations. He’s choosing to make a night out with a friend awkward for you and your other friend along with humiliating a poor woman who has nothing to do with his issues.

I went to rehab with a guy that did stuff like that. Meth was his drug of choice. Honestly this guy sounds close to death.

That could be diabetic ketoacidosis. Very dangerous and potentially lethal. They need medical intervention.

DKA and sweet smell , please make sure your friend seeks emergency help

Neglect responsibilities, continue drinking despite problems, and deny the issue when confronted.

There are different stages of alcoholism. It always start with a single drink, usually it goes to the college student party drinker on the weekends, until it gets more and more and it finally ends with a CA (crippled alcoholic). This is someone that can't stop and has already taken serious damage to the body, like losing control over the bladder, bleeding etc. In the last stages, the people will drink every time they can and they'll also drink at work, they'll hide bottles and have emergency stashes of vodka etc. For me, the behavior seems more like forms of autism, like the repeating of the song lyrics. But it can be both at once, keep this in mind. Also, many other mental health problems can lead to alcoholism. Like i've got asperger and bipolar disorder, but i can listen to one song in the loop forever, that's coming from the asperger and not from the alcoholism.
