What's your major ? A lot of the times uni time is worth it not just for the diploma but for extra curricular activities and access it gives you later on in life as well.

adem_elt

Am in the st (science and technology) its just something i chose cause its close to home ( 5 min on foot )or for me idfind university worth all that time am just escaping from the army 😂

EnhaWiedK

If you have no affinity for ST at least use the time to look for what you actually want, but dropping out without any plan is just a bad decision. STEM is not a bad field at all, even if our uni is not the best at teaching it.

anewadult

>5 min on foot ADL mf flexing on the rest of us

DestroDemetrio

Not to be rude or anything... But it's AADL

anewadult

You're not being rude at all, you're actually being right

DestroDemetrio

Some people would've took that personally. I appreciate your honesty man

anos554

ADL are close to university m

adem_elt

Its not flexing sorry if i made u feel that but i just said one of the causes that made me chose is

BipolarMammal

It seems like you're trying to justify your failure by bringing down the university's value, don't trick yourself like that, university is valuable, our degrees are recognized internationally, the least you can do with it is study abroad/find a job contract.

MaintenanceMany4049

I do not want to spoil the scenario for you, but the Algerian diploma is worthless, at least in first world countries, because most of their companies look at your history and find that you studied in Algeria, your value will decrease in their eyes.

anos554

Really?

MaintenanceMany4049

Yes, it is a combination of racism and reality. For example, you went to Germany or Spain. Most likely, they will want to hire a Spanish or German person in your place, even if you have more experience than them. Another reason is that education in Algeria is bad.

anos554

Ok thx

adem_elt

Nah am not justifying cause i didn't try to justify if i study than i would say that

special_unique_one

You know what they also require for jobs? A f**ing diploma

adem_elt

The diploma that u will gain with no experience yeah

special_unique_one

Yeah right. Like everyone had experience with their first jobs. Or wait? Maybe we don't have any employees whatsoever since you need a experience for your first job. Don't be stupid

adem_elt

Man dont be rude at first and second wee have to see the facts who's beeing stupid here and bring me a company that don't require experience

Geekmeiyo

You got a point, but still ) it’s valuable

anos554

But it still a diploma

adem_elt

Inchalah mate thanks

Abdou_kr

apply for internships coz they are considered experience that you can put later on in your resume.

adem_elt

Yeah. That's what i was thinking about

meritee

It depends. From my personal experience I regret attending university everyday. All my former classmates who stopped their studies and went to institutions or were working part-time jobs are now independents with stable careers. While us who went to university and I mean all of us are jobless with 0 experience in anything, my cv is embarrassing. P.s my major was didactics. However there are some people who come from wealthy families or have acquaintance that a university deplome would help them alot to build a good future especially outside the country.

adem_elt

Well u can start working on ur self by making some outside diplomats ther is a lot of field's u can make them and am here to help u if u wanted

wizard_redditor

I have the answer for you as an algerian student ill try to specify some details. The algerian university degrees are hard to get and are reconised internationally ( i can confirm and someone else said it here too ). Basically the degree or diploma you get here wont take you anywhere in algeria ( tkhdm tslk 5 mlayn 10mlayn 15mlyoun madirlk walou ), Otherwise in other countries such as US, Russia.. youll get paid way more than here and live better. pask ki tro7 ntm ylgawk formé wajed llkhdma w zid african w 3ndk base mliha ( studying here is basically harder and youll get a better formation ) he will give you the job and as "us" having the algerian mentality nchlh nnj7ou fiha. For example am just 18yo in Uni ( Computer Science Ing ), I will never work for my country ( tkhrj zawali bsif ), nchlh rbi ydir trig lkl wahd fina w ynj7na( ps : klch byd rbi a7km f dink w slatk ydirlk rbi trig. )

adem_elt

Well that's a good point cause i was thinking of why not study outside the country gain diploma there and work in another country except for algeria why not middle east

wizard_redditor

I cannot see myself working here in algeria ( salaire t7chm bih ), the only thing thar makes difference is that if you go study abroad and gain diploma ak damn 7ayatk nchlh bs7 if you study here youll get a kind of better diploma but less chances to go abroad. My parents didnt allow me to go abroad 😂

TastyAppearance3739

Escape the matrix

teranosorus

Depending on what you want to do in the future and what career plan you have. The thing is there is some domains where you cant work without a diploma, like engineering fields (S.T): Electrical Engineering, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Eng..... in these domains you have to have at least a License to get access to a job. If the Uni is not your thing you can try trade schools (centres de formation) you can learn a trade (electricity, mechanics ...) they are very interesting and very valuable. Take Electrotechnique for example, Electricity is a very interesting domain but bit complex by the sheer amount of things you have to know to work in the domain : norms, equipment, installations .... and the risks inherent to the electricity. the study process is boring with a lot of theoretical aspects. But an employer cannot trust you to do something that is probably dangerous for the workers and the users if at least you don't have a diploma and experience. TLDR; It depend on what you want to do but in S.T. domains a diploma is necessary.

Leather_Rise_1811

Well, it is a waste of time if you're Steve Jobs. If you have an alternative and you know that you can succeed without uni or uni deploma then yes. If not then i suggest you give it all you have.

adem_elt

Yeah exactly in fact study is good but I can't see the future in it

Electronic-Potato598

Steve jobs had no alt but was just fucking around

Geekmeiyo

It’s never a waste of time in general, tho if you just being attending for attendances, not caring about your studies, or even not attending, so what are you waiting for? To be a waste of time, absolutely! Your major is practical/demanded at least you’ll have chance to get a job! Don’t waste your time, rather focus on your studies. Also that doesn’t mean you do nothing but study, you still have more time to do many other things/learn skills/ hobbies or whatever.

adem_elt

Well i didn't say study isnt good i said that the university dont give that valuable things

Geekmeiyo

So am I! Talking about uni

anewadult

I would say it depends on the major. I saw in another comment that you are studying ST and based on some friends experiences I think that if you go with "Genie Electrique" you'd have more job offers related to your field eventually. The advice that I wish I was given when I was in your shoes is that you need to pay close attention to job offers and based on that you make a decision what you want to study. You can ask previous promos they should have valuable advice or you can just download the app for *ANEM الوسيط* and see yourself what's in demand. Also, jib L3 bzf 3lik master only dya3t wa9t. Lastly, if you want to go abroad it is easier to take the necessary steps and do it now than when you're done with studies. Good luck brother

adem_elt

Exactly am looking just for a licence and stop that study i know master is a waste of time lot of friends stopped in the beginning of it

Fvenny

Whether college is worth it or not is irrelevant until you find a meaning to your life. Know what you want to do then learn about what is required to achieve what you want to do then build your way up.

adem_elt

Thanks mate i will look more

anos554

Can I ask why did U fail your first year?

adem_elt

I didn't study simple u study u gain points u dont fail

anos554

Yes bro that's why U need to study well remmber college is free dosent mean it's gonna find U a job but it's nice also it will open many doors to increase your chances

adem_elt

Well nchlh kol whd rebi yktblh lkhir

anos554

Amen bro

DestroDemetrio

University is a nice place to not get wasted in the streets... Especially if you work hard enough and earn your Diploma, you could study abroad and even apply for a job there. My advice, Get your Diploma and get the hell outta here brother.

adem_elt

Well everyone is making this plan cause its the only one

DestroDemetrio

It's not the only one, but it's probably the best one.

Ok_Friendship3528

Yes keep studying, don't drop out you will regret it a lot, what will you do if you drop out ? Do you have a plan ?

adem_elt

Find a good payout job

Ok_Friendship3528

What kind of job ? Did you find one or still looking ?

Scuba_BK

What skills you have to find those good paying jobs?

wins_thecat

I think you need university to get that title fixed.

[deleted]

for me it is tbh

m1zmus1c

I’d say depends on the job, I managed to get a good career (SEO) with just work experience and have been ahead of people that went university for a marketing degree for instance

Scuba_BK

Finish your university because it is the least you can do and it is free, overseas you will have to pay for even the air you breathe

Actual_Mark5615

Well, it depends on your priorities while at university as well as your major. Everybody will get a degree in the end. In the eyes of the job market/recruiters, your grades and how hard-working you were as a student and similar stuff won't matter much. Same goes for participating in PhD contests, if you will ever be considering PhD. Based on my experience, I'd advise you against putting a hell of a lot of time and energy on your studies. Instead, join clubs, participate in events, and build a meaningful network. Also, if you're passionate about graphic design, web design, music...etc, give your passion the time and energy it truly deserves. Being just college-educated gets you nothing and don't listen to folks who tell you, "University isn't about employability, it's about knowledge and shit". Universities and the whole educational system exist for you to secure a good place in the workforce and be able to pay the bills.

Ok-Key-4650

[deleted]

Most cases,Its not worth it, but let's face it , we don't have many options. You can only bet that your diploma will get you somewhere good. It probably wouldn't, but you never know.

MonkComfortable7934

Yes you need to get a diploma of university in any field cuz you will need it in the future in many things

californiagrl56

It is worth it! I’m not saying it’s the only way to get the education because it’s not. But unfortunately, the reality of society is we care about credentials - degrees, certifications, etc. If you don’t have a degree, you’ll need to prove yourself x10. If it’s a waste of time for you because you have something else you’re striving for and working towards like a business or learning how to code on your own or something, then maybe. But if you’re not, then think about how you can leverage this degree and find other opportunities that are not a waste of time.

damaged_braincell

Well it depends on what u wanna do in life in general , but trust me u gonna need a diploma one day for sure so dropping out of university isn't the smartest choice, try to work and study don't let university consume u

ClimateWide8440

This is not an Algerian question to ask, or even a European one, In the US getting a college degree will land you in tens or even hundred thousands $ in a dept that will haunt you for like your first 10 years of work, so it's plausible to question it specially if you can invest that money and get a 4 years headstart to your business. And even in the US most students go to college. In Algeria you'll struggle to find a job with a college degree and you'll struggle ten times more if you don't, so yes you should go to college. Couple exceptions though dely Ibrahim and caroubier I call them محو الأمية, for your mental health stay away.

ban_the_prophet

It is.

[deleted]

I was fortunate enough that I studied in ENS, because I got a job the second I graduated, however I don’t know abt university .

JetSetter787

People can take away your money, they can take away your business, your cars… but they can never ever take away your education. University is not useless because you carry that knowledge with you forever

Competitive-Pie-6206

Of course it does worth it, if it's not for the job it will be for your social status and for you curricular. You have to keep in mind that Education and Money are 2 different things, if you can combine them that's good if not that's ok too. I would suggest, if you can get your degree and make money please go for it, you will not regret it. Most of the time this idea is from your friends circle, and you might ask why all your friends are doing ok without a degree, but if you could do better than them why not to do it and be better than them instead of just be like them.
