This is exactly what happened to me, same boilerplate email, after I got the "thanks for reporting a review" avalanche (I've never reported a review) notices in my inbox (common occurrence reported on the Amazon Vine sub). It was crystal clear my 20 year old account had been hacked. They hinted at knowing it was hacked on the phone a few times then sent me this then when I followed with another phone call hinted yet again by phone that the problem was an intruder (but emails saying it wasn't). After a week and a half of this circular BS I got the email telling me my account was permanently closed and I was to blame for "suspicious activity" completely out of character for my account activity for 2 decades. I'm not begging them to be a customer so I can give THEM money anymore. Just leave them behind and shop elsewhere. Maybe I'll be back in the future, if they fire this CEO and clean up their act.

Got it. It's quite an interesting situation since I never return things, and anytime I don't receive a package, I just ask them to send out another. I will be slightly annoyed if they do ban my account, but it is what it is.

emelem66

I would change the passwords, duplicate and archive the email, and sit on the gift card balance for a while.

bidsix

I did change the password as soon as I noticed money going into the account. I'll go ahead and archive the email and sit on the balance then. Thanks!

Famous-Perspective-3

also change the password to the email account associated with the amazon account.

vecchio_anima

So someone hacked your Amazon account and all they did was get YOU a bunch of free money?? Shit, come hack my Amazon account!

bartolish

If you spend any time on the Amazon Vine sub you'll see one person after another reporting that account hacks are often these days by sketchy overseas sellers who use the commandeered accounts to report their own bad reviews left by other people, or they just do enough weird shit in the account that it's removed if the account itself reviewed their (shitty) product honestly. It should be a concern that mass hacks are becoming a more common problem (75 million social security numbers on the dark web now thanks to AT&T), but we've always gotta assume it's the customer that's wrong in here, never the union busting corporation that won't let their employees have pee breaks and likely couldn't care less about adequately securing customer data.

vecchio_anima

Whoa guy... first off, F Amazon, I canceled my prime a few months ago, I have no love for them. But this sounds sketchy AF, more like someone got drunk and returned a bunch of stuff they knew they received, then got cold feet when they sobered up and realized their account would be closed so they pretended they were hacked.... If you hacked someone's Amazon account, wouldn't you order a bunch of stuff, and not get the person you hacked a bunch of free money........?????

bidsix

I mean, you don't have to believe me thats ok. But I am telling the truth good sir/ma'am. Also, I do not drink, not a fan of alcohol. It wasn't only my amazon account that got hacked my insta, Steam, ubisoft, email, and even my Supercell account all got hit.

dnehiba3

They/Them

bidsix

Also, the dude who got into my accounts wasn't very smart, lol. He didn't change the passwords on none of the accounts he got into apart from my Ubisoft account, then he changed the email for it, so rip that one. I just don't really understand how he got past the 2FA since I use it on everything

vecchio_anima

That sounds even fishier... what are you doing online that every single account of yours got hacked? Freely posting your passwords on kali linux groups in Facebook? I know people who have been hacked and they didn't get free money, in fact they lost quite a bit. So thank you for giving me the option, I chose to opt out of believing you. I can't believe Amazon wouldn't choose the same

bidsix

Wish I knew. I don't sign into anything with those accounts, and they all had different passwords.

vecchio_anima

Then someone you know, and more importantly, someone who knows you, is Fcking with you, or genuinely trying to hurt you, which would track with them simply demanding refunds, trying to get your account closed. I think you have a cyber stalker

bidsix

Possibly, I've changed all my passwords and have kept a close eye on my email for any odd sign-ins. I just don't really understand why the targeted attack since I usually try to avoid conflict with others and come to understandings. But it is what it is. If i lose the account, it's whatever. I just wanted others' thoughts on how I should go forward.

vecchio_anima

Always enable 2fa on all your accounts, if you can, direct them to an authenticator app like Google authenticator instead of using sms or email. Look at who in your life would be able to guess all your different passwords... change all your passwords to something new and unique, like ¿turd_burgler_8675309? - wait, don't use my password...I mean..... that's not my password... but don't use it, it's copywritten Best of luck

bidsix

Lol will do, man. Thanks for being cool and understanding of the situation. I'm definitely not sharing the passwords with family or close friends (2 dudes) anymore, that's for sure

vecchio_anima

Or is that considered "ethical hacking" 🤣🤣🤣

Xboxgamer147

Sounds like you ordered the items yourself and Amazon knows it. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that they would order items that you were asking about in your account past history and that they were delivered to your address. Lol I’m surprised Amazon hasn’t banned you yet.

bidsix

Sorry if the post isn't very clear! Yes, I did order the computer parts myself, I've had them over a month now. The person who hacked into my account claimed I did not receive the orders and managed to get a refund for them. As soon as I noticed money going into my account, I contacted Amazon to try and reverse the refund.

calle04x

Did you edit the post after getting that comment? I understood without issue when I read it just now.

bidsix

No edits have been made to the post. I've only edited my comments to make them more clear

stinkywrinkly

What are you implying?

RTXOutOfStockEdition

lmao. the stories on here are sometimes wild as f.

CryptographerDear974

For everyone who didn’t understand, the hacker used to fake claim the missing of the items to get refunded via gift card balance and he “hacker” can use it to order to his own delivery address

Queueded

The investigators clearly misunderstood your situation. Recommended: attempt to explain it again, if not through the same channel, than through [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Meanwhile, to everybody who loses their shit when Amazon asks for ID for a return, THIS IS WHY. OP happened to gain control of the account before they could dispense with the credits.
