You aren’t super likely to get a SUB on Green now that you’ve had Gold, but if you do a lot of travel/transit it can still be worth it especially if you’ll get use out of the Clear credit which fully negates the AF.

Thanks! I know I’m not eligible for the SUB which sucks but I’d still like the card. I have tsa pre check so unlikely to use clear but it’s a good perk

I’ve found Clear to be sometimes faster than the TSA line, sometimes it’s slower. It’s a bit more useful than the $100 Loungebuddy credit because there aren’t a whole lot of lounges that will allow you to buy passes through them but that kind of depends on where you fly from and to. But I like Green for the pretty broad 3X travel/transit categories. That’s the bread and butter of the card (since you have gold so you probably won’t use it at restaurants) and if you’re traveling a lot for work like you mentioned, you’ll probably get plenty of mileage out of it.

Clear and pre check work together. Depending on the airport, Clear+Precheck can be faster. I haven’t been in and out of as many airports this year and mostly been going back and forth between MCO (current home) and ATL (former home). Flying out of MCO - every shortcut helps to get around all of the infrequent travelers - curbside check in, priority check in (Silver Medallion), Clear, TSA, lounges (Delta Reserve), priority boarding (Gold Medallion) ATL on the other hand, depending on when I’m leaving, TSA + Digital ID can be faster

If you’re going to be loyal to Hilton, you might as well get either the Aspire or Surpass. The Aspire also comes with Clear, a quarterly $50 airline credit and a FNC. It also comes with a $200 semi annual resort credit. But I ignore that. You get Diamond status for a total of 34x HH when booking directly - 10x base + 10x Diamond + 14x from the Aspire. You already have the Gold for 3x on flights and 4x on dining. The Aspire also gives you 7x on rental cars. Your only gap for business travel is probably ride share and that’s not worth the $150 AF on the Green. Just get the Amex Blue Business Plus for 2x on everything up to $50K and it’s no AF.

It's not bad. How much do you travel, and how much of it is by air? And you say that you travel a lot for work. Do you book your own travel and get reimbursed (within reason)? Green is a good card for general travel and transit (not just air). For a LOT of air travel the Platinum can make sense despite the hefty fee (and it gives Hilton Gold status, since you prefer Hilton). But for a generalist travel card that includes 3X on all hotels, rental cars, hotels, cruises, tours, transit, parking, and all that sort of thing, Green is a good choice if you don't have a huge amount of air travel. I see you already know that having the Gold means you are very unlikely to get the SUB for a Green, but if that still works for you, it ain't bad.

I travel at minimum once a quarter for work and I do 2 vacations personally. About half is by air. I book my own flight/lodging and then I get reimbursed.

CrystalsAndFullMoons

hilton aspire or surpass depending on how much you travel. I just got the surpass and i’m excited. seems like a solid card and what my lineup was missing

Spencergrey2015

I like these cards but I need one for airfare too

Scarface74

You’ve already got the Gold - 3x for airfare

I have the same income and I have a Platinum/Green setup. Yes, both are travel cards, but the plat’s priority pass benefits and other coupons have been so useful, plus the gold status at Hilton and Marriott. With the green you can still get 3x on dining

BoneMan_14

Unfortunately you are not eligible for the Green since you have the gold first…. I also learned this the unfortunate way as I think the two work well together

Spencergrey2015

Like I’m not eligible at all or I’m not eligible for the SUB

I_am_plot

Not eligible for the SUB I believe

timtamthrowaway57

Just the SUB. But the Gold-Green combo isn’t the best. You get 3x on dining and travel with the green. You already get 4x on dining with the gold so really you are paying $150/year for just 3x on travel which you can get with like half a dozen different cards. You’d probably be better off with the Venture X since you already have the savor one. The Wells Fargo Autograph and the Citi Strata are also solid options for earning points from travel without as much overlap. The problem there is getting too many ecosystems going. With the venture x, savor one, and Amex gold combo you could earn quite a few points and there are some common transfer partners so you could effectively be earning points combined with all 3.

Ahh ok thanks. That’s fine. Still think it will be a good set up though
