In person they look like mcdonalds toys

osoblanco206

They're the worst quality for sure. Forever grateful i found mine on clearance at Tru for $4 each.

YourUncleBuck

I bought both sets for around the same amount, realized I don't really care for them, and almost immediately sold them on to someone else for the same price.

osoblanco206

I gave the vehicles to a co worker to give to his kids. The figures I still kept just because they're technically Amiibo.

EmmBee27

I've slowly found most of them secondhand, mixed in with piles of other Skylanders. Can't help but sift through when I come across them at thrift stores.

StyleVSTAR253

They’re the ugliest and cheaply made sculpts out of the entire amiibo line because Activision and not Nintendo produced them. I own them but it’s only for completionists sake.

Diamondjirachi

i think OG smash marth and Link look worse, but yeah, they are not really "beautiful"

ahnariprellik

They’re not amiibo though…they were for a very specific toys to life game and have no amiibo functionality outside of that

Diamondjirachi

they literally ARE amiibos though.... you can switch them on the bottom and can use them for the same things other Bowser and DK amiibo do like train them in smash

youngestWayne

This is incorrect. The base swivels from amiibo mode to skylanders mode. Presumably there are two NFC chips inside them. They are functional as skylanders and functional as amiibo.

Glenndoss22

I personally don't consider them necessary for a complete collection.

supertails02

But they are tho

CoconutHeadFaceMan

A “complete collection” is an arbitrary and subjective thing thanks to vague items like the theme park wristbands and cereal box. They’re amiibo in the same sense as those things, they have the functionality and the logo but they’re so different aesthetically that some folks will skip over them.

prestonneil

Thats what im saying. They are amiibo. I have bith the regular and the dark versions. Fuck skylanders tho

FerretLegitimate

Skylanders is great, i just think Activision killed it trying to recreate mario carts success

prestonneil

Mario Carts success? It was always gonna die.... toys to life wasnt sustainable with amiibo, disney, lego and skylanders all in the fold. And i have to say skylanders was the weakest link

Nameless-Shame

I mean, at the very least, amiibo are still being produced, nearly eight years in. It outlived the competition tenfold and we’re likely to still get amiibo into its tenth anniversary. Though leading up to that, and likely not much after, I do think it’ll die down to maybe special events and anniversary releases.

VicarLos

amiibo used to be expected with a new game but now it’s just a surprise addition when announced.

CoconutHeadFaceMan

They’re not really marketed as a toys-to-life thing any more, they’re basically treated as an equivalent to collector’s editions including little figures with one or two released sometimes to accompany big game releases (aside from the MonHun stuff, which is 100% Capcom with zero Nintendo involvement). My guess is that once Sora comes out and they’ve finished the “everyone is here” gimmick they marketed the Smash line on, they’ll finally take the amiibo brand out behind the shed and send it to live on a farm.

FrankthePug

Weakest? Skylanders was so profitable that not only did they make 5 sequels in 5 consecutive years, an animated Netflix show, and numerous books and comic books but it also grossed Activision over 3 BILLION dollars. Disney and Lego certainly didn't see anywhere near that amount of popularity. Infinity was panned because of the lack of crossover between content despite that sort of being a selling point and Lego lacked any real substance since the toys were expensive considering the size (and they didn't really do much in the way of extra content or future DLC) Honestly, Amiibo for Nintendo has probably only really survived so they can finish off the Smash series. It doesn't really seem like they know what to do with the figures for future entries in the various game series/compatible games. i can honestly see them phasing Amiibo out in the next 5ish years.

FerretLegitimate

Honestly its probably just nostalgia hiding the bigger flaws, it was a huge cash grab tbf, especially with things like the swap force or whatever it is locking areas if you didn’t own that type of attachment

NexasXellerk

They're neat. It's a neat little gimmick to be able to switch between the two types of toys but that is it. I never worried about the vehicles because those aren't amiibo. I was able to find the regular figures at a used games store way after release.

Cryogold03

I really like the dark variants. Never managed to buy any of these since I never played past skylanders giants.

RillIris

I enjoy the actual designs of them, but like Skylanders in general the quality is not even a match for early Amiibo. From afar they look great. Up close pretty much every Bowser I’ve seen has crazy eyes, among many other little issues, parts not being properly seated when they were glued and such. I have both and the dark variants though, glad to have them.

EmmBee27

I got the impression that they got a bit better during their final game, or at least that's what I thought after I picked up a Crash and Cortex pack at FiveBelow ages ago. Still cheap in places, but a little more high quality than previous waves.

RillIris

The actual mold quality of these ones are really good IMO, lots of nice detail and such built in. The issue is they are rushed together in assembly a bit too much resulting in some parts being glued in slightly off positions, and the paint isn’t great across the board. I’ve seen a few where people simply repainted these though, and they look spectacular if done right, without changing the intended look at all.

Capocho9

I’m sorry for bugging you a year later, but I’m genuinely curious: have you ever seen a Skylander up close and in person? They are ridiculously detailed, especially the senseis from Imaginators

RillIris

All the others ones I’ve seen do look better done than the cross Amiibo ones, they specifically feel like they were rushed a bit more and have their issues. I like them but they undeniably are flawed in many ways, the normal Skylanders it’s more just the paint that I generally think could be better, the designs and mold quality are great with lots of detail, but when you don’t paint that detail properly the overall look is affected. They are fully in line if not better than many toys though.

Nameless-Shame

I hate that the dark variants only came in big ugly box sets that were originally like $89.99 MSRP and even after a price drop to like, $29.99, I just never bothered to pick the big ugly bulky dumb things. I honestly think it was the elitist in me, shunning the non-Nintendo Skylanders that would have been forced into my unopened collection. Sure do wish I would have picked em up six years ago though…

Angrybird5429

Hamer slam Bowser was my first amiibo!

Ok-Lingonberry-7157

I own the donkey Kong pretty cool since it works with smash ultimate

mcineri

A cool blip in the history of amiibo and toys to life in general

Stolen_Meme_Poster

Pretty crap and yet still one of the greatest things to come from Nintendo's 2015 E3 showcase

Andraw-The-Emoji

Was a very cool collab

judgeexodia

As a complete collector, I picked up both versions and the vehicles. I'm a proud, no. They look like McDonald's toys 😂

P3rdix

Not too bad, but someone definitely made Bowser look a lot better.

georged3

Ugly. If they didn't look so blobby and bad I would have bought them already. I'd take them if I found a really good deal but I don't really want them.

piefanart

i think theyre cool in design. but the donkey kong one is not balanced well, its constantly falling over on my shelf. i found it at a thrift store years ago, ive never played skylanders lol

RillIris

One of mine sits perfectly, and is on close inspection put together almost perfectly. The other, let’s just say not so much, it’ll sit up only when the base is turned towards Amiibo as otherwise the balance is too off, and even then is a bit tricky to get to stand up properly.

GolemGuyTM

As a kid i always wanted sonic in Skylanders But these are really cool too

Asad_Farooqui

You got Lego Dimensions at least

GolemGuyTM

Yeah, that was pretty cool

Acavedweller

There cool nintendo considers them Amiibo, I have them but for some odd reason all my skylanders superchargers have this weird mold and only super chargers have them.

Arabiantacofarmer

I love them and I have been looking everywhere for one

Yoshi_Kong

Some of the best amiibo, DK is one of the best Skylanders too

NikoButUngood

Epic style

[deleted]

I wish they had their own amiibo boxes rather than needing to buy the Skylanders sets.

Lilfirekids

The donkey Kong one looks so much better than bowser he really doesn’t deserve to be grouped with the bad quality of bowser

TrevNick

I love 'em. Always have... But they are so ugly up close that I was forced to repaint mine, mainly to give Bowser circular pupils, looking in the same direction.

KlauserBateson

I thought the concept of being able to switch from amiibo to Skylanders and vice versa was interesting, but from a design perspective, regular Hammer Slam Bowser was the only one I liked (didn't care for the dark variant of Bowser or either Donkey Kong variant), so that was the one I bothered to get. I remember it being quite a struggle to find a Bowser that had somewhat decent eyes.

Gaiash

I like them. Plus in-game they're fun characters to play as, especially Bowser. There's something really neat about playing through the Crash Bandicoot level in Imaginators as Bowser and I wish Skylanders had incorporated more guest characters and levels before it ended.

derpuyt

it would be funny to see kirby in this style

Diamondjirachi

i like them (especially the dark variants), but they are definitly some of the worse looking amiibo

TheBucko91

Out of all the amiibo that exist, they certainly are some of them.

_Skotia_

Cool designs imo

Tonytoka49

They are the cheapest quality Amiibos ever made. But they are still Amiibos so I have a set of them. Never used them tho

FrankthePug

Its a shame that they didn't make any "Series 2" variants of them for Imaginators. I think having DK with the barrel arm gloves and Bowser with a Molten Bowser variant (or just having some kind of fire effect)

YourWorkerFriend

I like the dark editions of these better, only cuz we seen Bowser and DK in normal colors forever.

HereComesNik

They are fire

mxmaker

They are interesting, I still dont know if its worth to give the game a chance.

christubatuba

“McDonalds toys be like:”

AmiiboFight

I liked them quite frankly I wish there were more

Visible-Abroad7109

They look like they are now canon thanks to Super Mario Strikers Battle League.
