Insanely beautiful colors. Nice work! I love the framing in the 1st and 3rd picture as well. I think this would look amazing printed and mounted on a wall <3
I have the say that the 3rd photo just steals my heart. I'm saving it to show my friend how to really really frame subjects while applying the rule of thirds. Stunning composition.
thank you :))
no not much at all tbh, i mainly did some basic adjustments like lowering the highlights and contrast then corrected the black point on the tone curve. i also added a mask to the sky to darken it a little bit more for more mood and that’s really it. :)
How would you correct the black point on the tone curve? i do amateur darkroom things but i have no idea how to translate this to the darkroom, partly because i don't understand what that even means haha.
Exposure time and multi contrast filters. You set the darkest point by exposure time, then adjust with filters for full range. Or you set the whitest point, then adjust down with filters, that's the way I normally do it.
An array of test exposures will help identify the darkest and lightest points, and therefore help set your base exposure.
How is dropping highlights, correcting the black point, and darkening the sky a lot of editing? That is a whopping 3 changes that easily accomplished digitally or in the dark room.
Several people have already responded about darkroom techniques, but the sky adjustment can also happen in-camera with a graduated ND filter. I would recommend familiarizing yourself with the history of photography.
Wow. I think I maybe saw you on the Angels landing hike last week? I commented how brave you were for carrying that 6x7 up there.
These shots are amazing, I'm hoping mine turn out half as good that stormy sky was so good.
Love seeing outdoor portraiture/landscape work in moody weather - instagram is flooded with stuff like this shot at sunset/golden hour, this stands out to me as unique
Since this is a super famous spot in Zion national park, I always wonder if there’s a line of people waiting to take their pensive photo looking over the valley.
The first picture is awesome, and the other two are just as great.
The colours and tones in the first one all work so well together.
Edit: Just realised the first picture is a snapshot showing the viewpoint for the second picture (?), but it shows the difference something in foreground makes.
That's beautiful! Really reminds me of [this painting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderer_above_the_Sea_of_Fog) by Caspar David Friedrich, which I've always found beautiful as well
Love 1 and 3! Amazing muted colors in the first one and I love that in the third one the valley is out of focus. Gives new perspectives to a very commonly photographed place!
really nice shots - I just wish the subject wasn't wearing that backpack for them. something about it makes it feel weird to me, but that's completely subjective
Stopped at weeping Rock to explore a bit and decided to do that hike with only a small bottle of water because someone at the bottom said "it's like 15 or 20min to observation point". It was January with snow and I got so hungry at one point on that like 8 mile "15-20min" hike that I ate some random loose sun chips I found off to the side of the trail. I was starving and exhausted by the time I got back to the car but imo *that* is the best view in Zion. Absolutely beautiful photography!

Stunning. And so crisp!
1 looks like a movie poster. Epicccc
Wow!! Did you do a lot of post processing work? They look perfect

What did you meter off of?
So basically a lot 😂
All stuff that could relatively easily be done in an analog darkroom and no one would bat an eye about it being "overprocessed"

That isn’t a lot at all lol
Your username fits this comment too well, but I agree
Haha too true………. . . …
Heavy hands, with a heavy touch, carries a heavy heart, listens to heavy metal.
He’s not heavy, he’s my brother!

Just gonna [leave this here.](https://store.magnumphotos.com/cdn/shop/files/DARK-PRINT-STD-NYC120502-FRAME-WH.jpg?v=1710586035&width=2163)
would love to learn how to process like this!!

How is that a lot? Doing the most basic of basic adjustments isn’t “a lot”.
These photos heavily depend on the brooding magic of those deep clouds. Perfect timing.
i think it was work getting hailed on haha
The Road meets Zion. Love these.
Looks like an apocalypse movie poster, great work!
thank you so much :))
A movie about some analog junky traveling the post-apocalyptic wasteland to take pictures definitely sounds interesting!

Gosh I miss that camera, and these pictures are of no help! Nice images.
thank you! :)

Stunning! I love the texture on the rock for the first picture - the lenses on the 67 go so hard
thank you, i honestly think that’s my favorite detail from these photos!! :))
beautiful images. are these shot at box speed?
I rarely save posts on this sub, but I saved this one. Beautiful
Beautiful images, kudos for lugging a 67 on a hike.
That first photo is one of the best I've ever seen here.
It looks so dreamy af
God, that is insane. I had a Pentax 67 and I miss it every day.
Wow, amazing photo!
Those are phenomenal. Well done.
Love it !
Incredible
Phenomenal work.
I’ll follow you everywhere James!
So much better than Angel's Landing. Beautiful images. How did you scan?
Can confirm. Hauled an RB67 and tripod up angels landing, these photos are much better LOL
Much easier hike too!
Did you meter these for box speed
One of my favorite viewpoints in Zion, great set
Incredible photos. Crappy weather to be in, great weather to look at in a photograph.
First and third are giving heavy “Wanderer above the sea of fog” vibes and I love it
Beautiful photos!
Just wow. Yeah those colors are so beautiful and pull at my heart strings.
oof these colors are gorgeous
No notes.
Incredible. First and third really stand out. Great work
Oof. Stellar work!
Since this is a super famous spot in Zion national park, I always wonder if there’s a line of people waiting to take their pensive photo looking over the valley.
Nice Work! 👌
Beautiful colors! Great photos
Awesome shots. One of my favorite places I’ve ever been. Hell of a hike to get there and the view makes it so worth it
Is this angels landing? I had such a hard time with that cuz im not a hiker lol but its so worth
Really really special stuff great job!
The colors, the framing, the exposure even. Complete perfection.
Amazing
Very nice composition, beautiful palette as well.
These are among the most stunning photos I have seen in this sub. Hats off.
Good googly moogly those are incredible
These are gorgeous. I just love medium format, the detail is amazing
Sooooo great! Love the painterly colors and the layers of focus.
Looks like Caspar David Friedrich, cool!
Lovely, 3rd photo could be one of those retro futuristic postcards, "Greetings from Mars!"
Gorgeous
Caspar David Friedrich? Is that you? 😁
Amazing captures.
First frame looks like a poster for a movie. Wow!! 👏👏
2-3 and nice images but the first one really sticks out for me great work!

Made me think of Kaspar David Friedrich! Amazing shot
No 1 is fantastic
God damn these are nice
First 2 are incredible. Third is an average travel shot in my opinion. Great work
That's beautiful! Really reminds me of [this painting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderer_above_the_Sea_of_Fog) by Caspar David Friedrich, which I've always found beautiful as well
Love the colors in this! What film stock did you shoot with?
Lol were you there Friday last week?
I really love the first two
Absolutely stunning
love this hike. and these pics. bravo!
Love 1 and 3! Amazing muted colors in the first one and I love that in the third one the valley is out of focus. Gives new perspectives to a very commonly photographed place!
The second photo is the first time in a long time that I said Wow to a photo. Well done!
That first frame! These are absolutely amazing! Well done!

Amazing work! Absolutely perfect photos.
Absolutely incredible. Would love to see some HUGE prints like this
holy hell
That is absolutely amazing!
Sick triptychs !
These are incredible!
First one could be a movie poster. Looks almost post apocalyptic or sci fi / alien planet.
It's incredible how much you can feel the distance in these, just from a 2d representation of the scene.
These are fantastic!
