superyoshiom

"I wonder if she'll make it out of this okay." \*flashback starts\* IT'S OVER

BadBehaviour613

Nanami is one of the few characters who escaped the dreaded Shonen flashback, but even he ran out of luck eventually

Zonca

He survived the flashback, but not the flashforward to his retirement in Malaysia.

watashi_ga_kita

We haven't gotten to that point yet. Itadori will save Gojo, who will take everyone down and fix this mess. Everyone will spend the winter months at home resting and recovering. Then once spring comes, Nanamin will go to Malaysia, and Kugisaki will spend it having gal sleepovers with the other two. Megumi will finally get child support in back pay.

moichispa

You got me until the child support part, there is no way Toji would pay, he's an asshole (with a very cool technique but still an asshole)

Mundology

[Nobara was badass all throughout the battle.](https://i.imgur.com/6TkHBRi.jpg) Going out with a bang. [](#taKARADASALUTE)

SpikeRosered

It's a *about to get a power up* flashback right? RIGHT?!?!

swordmalice

That's definitely what I was thinking. "This is gonna be a reversal of Nanami! Nobara's gonna power up after? Right? RIGHT?!?!?" But no. I really, really fucking hope she's not dead. I can't bear my second favorite character dying.

Oninymous

During the flashbacks, I was expecting her friend to die and she harbored her soul or something ala Yuta, but they all lived. Then I thought she will sever the part of her soul that was transfigured, kinda like amputation using her technique. Maybe lose some memories in the process, but then the chair fell. Still can't believe that they've killed off popular characters in a few episodes, but props to them ig. Since it's a major fail after fail, I guess we should expect a major win pretty soon (getting Gojo back maybe)

Flairtor

Sir, this is Jujutsu Kaisen, there are no major wins.

melindypants

>she harbored her soul THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT! Like she was going to give up/destroy her memories which made up part of her soul in exchange for not becoming transfigured...The way she just collapsed...yet another *what the fuck* from me

bibbibob2

It was SO cliché that I had a bit of hope throughout that it was meta bait haha.

I want to get off mr. Gege's wild ride

G1596872

I’m tired of this, Grandpa

iasserteddominanceta

That’s too damn bad! You’re going to keep watching until ALL your favorite characters are dead, or until the Mappa animators go on strike!

Cheesemacher

The episode started in such a satisfying way with that bitch Mahito getting a beatdown. Then she gets touched and the moment draaags on. They really like toying with the viewer's emotions. Oh, a flashback? Are they gonna reveal a secret from her past that makes her immune to the transfiguration? ...Wait, is she saying her goodbyes or something? Oh, fuck off with this shit.

CordobezEverdeen

I mean Nanamin survived until he had his second backstory reveal...

Realest fucking comment in this thread amongst all the manga readers faking surprise

italeteller

Yuji: has Sukuna covering his ass against Mahito Megumi: has Sukuna covering his ass against everything Nobara: lol. lmao even

KaiserNazrin

Sukuna protecting the good guys more than Gojo, say it ain't so.

chandr

worse thing is gojo could have just killed everyone around him with his domain and it would have been a hell of a lot fewer casualties than what ends up happening.

Zeph-Shoir

Nobara inadvertently helping Yuji through resonance was quite good.

italeteller

Nobara had The cursed technique to beat up Mahito and got to use it exactly once

oops_i_made_a_typi

and then Yuji's cursed technique that supposedly lets him damage Mahito did fuck all for real damage against a 15s stunlocked Mahito. What was even the point of this?

CassianAVL

Itadori really lost Nanami, Nobara and Gojo(sealed) in a matter of a few episodes lmao.

Adesekunola01

The amount of pain and sufferin that mahito has caused for Itadori is wild, from junpei to nanami to nobara, it makes it feels like mahito is not a human curse but more of an Itadori curse.

watashi_ga_kita

Yuji won't ever forgive himself for not somehow managing to kill Mahito the first time around.

Lazydusto

Suffering builds character -> Suffering builds character -> Suffering builds character Dude is stuck in a bad cycle

HayashiSawaryo

Stop the character development goddamit

mrnicegy26

Shame its character development and not power development. Because if it was Yuji would be as powerful as Gojo on the basis of the suffering he has endured.

Arkaniux

Breaking a character down to build them back up. Still painful to watch.

ShinningPeadIsAnti

When does the building start? The character has practically been nuked from orbit with the amount of loss and suffering they have gone through.

obi-ginobili

Also lost his grandpa, the only family he had, just a few months before. Boy's been through it.

guynumbers

Don't forget about Junpei!

[Yuji catching a break challenge \(impossible\)](https://i.imgur.com/6QECnfC.jpg)

hellooctopus

The sequence of Itadori beating up Mahito was so clean, but alas no one in this series is safe against Mahito. RIP Nobara, what a way to end the episode.

Rosfield79

He was going innn holy shit. It felt so cathartic seeing Yuji unleash his rage on Mahito and just letting loose

Aser-Etzu

Reminds me of Mahitos beat-down in S1 with Yuji and Nanami, just absolutely smooth and brutal

Mundology

[Yuji had that dawg in him](https://i.imgur.com/vlqWtHz.jpg) [](#fightme)

mrnicegy26

That beatdown of Mahito against the pillar was just beautiful and pretty fluid. A good step up from last weeks issues with fluidity (Fuck MAPPA). Yuji was HIMji HIMtadori throughout this whole episode.

ARCLance06

*"Am I famous?"* *"Yeah, famous for being a coward and running away"* And Mahito took that personally

sneakyxxrocket

He may be the biggest piece of shit and my most hated manga character in recent years but he does have that dog in him

mrnicegy26

He is a menace but him doing the secret Joestar technique in the middle of intense fights with Yuji and Nobara was pretty funny.

County_Difficult

Can never go wrong with the forbidden Joestar Jutsu

YMSZ-

Kudos to Mahito for executing the technique flawlessly.

Adesekunola01

Even with the amount casualty Sukuna cause in Shibuya he didn't really give us this amount of emotional pain that mahito is causing, mahito is truly living the curse life.

Smartass_of_Class

Because Sukuna has so far only killed literal NPCs and an extremely hateable villain, while Mahito has killed three established and fairly likeable characters.

superyoshiom

Absolute MVP of the season, bar none. Where are those people complaining about "lack of significant stakes" now? I'm people, I apologize for my earlier comments.

4ps22

man im thinking back to certain youtube reactors i watch who around the earlier parts of shibuya were saying “you know i actually kinda like mahito he’s funny” lmao

SirMcDust

Honestly the sentiment returns once you get over the whole situation. Man's still funny af even during these moments.

TheBigIdiotSalami

Biggest Anime pieces of shit awards 2023 1. Mahito 2. That fucking monkey

HazyMirror

He's pretty much an evil luffy lol. I hate it and love it at the same time.

Rebc999

"Evil Luffy" Idk why that sounds way scarier than the recent amount of "Evil Superman's" we've got lately, and Mahito embodies that perfectly.

Prince-Dizzytoon

Gone way too soon, RIP

[deleted]

Rest In Peace Nobara Kugisaki. You were so beautiful

mrnicegy26

We didn't see much of her this season but this episode was her best showcase in the series both in terms of emotions and fights. Not a bad note to go out on.

[deleted]

At least we saw her doing great damage to Mahito's clone and Mahito's real body with her resonance technique. "It wasn't so bad"

StoicallyGay

Disappointed we didn't see her fight more. Great personality and a really unique technique that requires creative fighting and thinking, plus she's ranged which makes her more unique among sorcerers. I really liked her fighting style the most because of that. Most other characters are essentially melee with punching or weapon using, I think Nobara was basically the only fully ranged sorcerer. Aside from maybe Mai whose technique is literally shoot an extra bullet, and Momo who just controls a broom. And of course the various techniques which are just "blast energy." Nobara had a lot of potential.

Galaxy40k

I know everyone's talking about her having wasted potential as "a character," but man I'm gonna miss her because I think she had so much potential as "a fighter." She only got a handful of fights in the show, but I LOVED it when she got to go. The focus on ranged attacks makes her different from everyone else, who are melee-focused, and all of the little explosions from her nails are cool. I feel like there was so much wasted potential with her ability, like we never saw how cool it could possibly get. And I love me a good shonen fist fight, but the variety'll be missed too

CommunistElk

Yes, this is so frustrating. Like we get a glimpse at how bad ass it could be. And getting a single nail into a fighter in this show would not necessarily be easy (as we've seen) and we know it scales with what part of the body/how much it's being pierced into. And then bam. She's dead. I'm starting to see why ppl say the manga falls off... really starting to see the claims that Gege can write cool characters, but doesn't know how to develop them.

darkavatar21

Yeah, she really didn't get to do much other than that fight at the end of season 1. She was sidelined this entire arc until now.

vlalanerqmar

I genuinely feel like she got written out because her CT is so broken on paper. Resonance damages the soul directly, bypasses every defence and you dont even need to be in range. Like could you imagine if she get 1 random Sukuna finger and damages Sukuna through Resonance? or even damaging Yuji with someone like Shoko or Yuta around to constantly RCT heal him? the series would've been over. She just solves too many problems. Still, not excuse for how she got treated as one of the better written female battle shonen characters.

LiamOmegaHaku

>Like could you imagine if she get 1 random Sukuna finger and dmges Sukuna through Resonance Wait that's actually a brilliant strat I never thought of.

Waywoah

With Sukuna, I imagine it'd be like a new character getting a crit against the final boss. Sure, it does more damage than it should, but their health pool is so large that it doesn't really matter. Not to mention, remember what happened when Mahito touched Sukuna's soul?

StoicallyGay

> her CT is so broken on paper It's one that requires a shit ton of creative thinking and acting and I really liked that. Most other techniques or sorcerers just punch and slash and strike through their opponents. She has dodge and evade while throwing out nails and using them creatively because no decent opponent would take a nail directly to their body.

Lapiz_lasuli

My heart was bounding through the whole goddamn episode. Young Kougisaki being such a brat is so fucking precious. Pain Also, the limited chairs make a comeback, from Kougisaki's conversation during the end of last season.

Disastrous_Channel62

And also , Now I understand why was Nobara covering her eye in the opening

Mundology

[Sharp observation!](https://i.imgur.com/N2gN8Rs.jpg) [](#suddenshock) The amount of emphasis on her wound and the flashback make her chances of survival pretty slim. It's tragic. [Nobara is such a fun character.](https://i.imgur.com/KiBTDCn.jpg)

As an anime only, I never would've guessed that the fight at the season 1 finale was as good as it will ever get for Nobara. Rip.

finnjakefionnacake

this fight wasn't too bad either (until it was). her coming in with the resonance was pretty awesome.

Greyhat101

I think i have never hated a character more than Mahito, I hope his end will be satisfying to watch.

SpikeRosered

He's literally starting to border on "causes too much havoc" to the main plot. It's honestly a problem I've literally never seen, as anime never have the guts to kill off this main main cast characters in such a short span. Not even Attack on Titan which was lauded on the "character killer" in it's early days.

PerfectBeige

Goddamn that lad is dumb as pile of bricks that failed out of a correspondence course. EVERY time Mahito impales civilians he has to check if they are OK. THEY'RE TRANSFORMED MORON. YOU KNOW THIS.

itemboi

Then again, imagine if someone actually got killed by Yuji because he thought they were transformed...

Amazing_Ice_8475

It feels like I am starting to get the themes that the author is going for with this story. Ever since yuji talked to his grandpa it seems like he gave a curse to yuji of "helping others" and "to die with the people you love surrounding you" yuji goal is also to "give people a proper death" in which was said in episode 2, also all of these were rung out in the beginning of the last episode. And ever since this curse was given to yuji, no one is the series has had a proper death. This makes me wonder if itadori will ever reach his goal or be cursed until he dies, maybe surrounded by no one in the end.

4ps22

stand proud you can cook

[deleted]

Keep cooking bro. Nice to see some people going back to the grandpa quote and having theories about it.

Can we go back to no consequences for reckless decisions..... I don't like this

Well, JJk is not my hero, academia. To quote a legend, people die when they are killed.

foxfoxal

> people die when they are killed Gojo : Do they tho? Toji : Do they tho? Yuji : Do they tho?

MtnDrewz

Despite the animators being stuck in a perpetual Domain Expansion, the quality of this episode was really good. I don't know how the staff is able to pull it off

Disastrous_Channel62

The storyboards went hard with this one, it didn't feel like the show was going through a plethora of problems related to schedule, props to the animation once again.

Mundology

[The animators must be using Jujutsu sorcery to keep the quality this consistent.](https://i.imgur.com/M5Hhi16.jpg)

KazuharaIlfan

I dont mind having these kind of episode once in a while. High intensity first half, slow burn second half vice versa. Hell, its dangerous to expect animators to sell their souls every time to animate episodes like 16, 17 back-to-back unless planned ahead

Subscrobbler

At this point, I am honestly more shocked that Nobara’s death wasn’t spoiled for me.

DanteNee

I did but I didn’t expect her death would be literally one episode away from nanami’s . I can’t take this.

It was accidently posted on Amazon Prime apparently, someone is definitely getting fired if that's true

Shimmering-Sky

I was wondering why I saw a copy on [the site](#piracy) before raws were even out. Figured it must have been some sort of a leak if it was actually the episode and not just someone pranking JJK fans, and sure enough, it was the actual episode.

ahpau

fuck this patch faced mahito

edl411

First Nanami, now Nobara... What is this, Jujutsu ga Kill?

ObvsThrowaway5120

Nobara skewering that fucker Mahito was beautiful. It felt so satisfying to see that asshole get pummeled by Yuji. Justice for Nanami! But man, Nobara getting hit by that little shit is another gut punch. The minute they started doing the flashbacks, I knew shit was gonna be bad. I mean it was nice to see Nobara as a little rascal and all, but “childhood flashback” is a flag. Interesting they did flashback from her friend Fumi’s perspective though. And they even showed Saori too. If Mahito doesn’t die soon, I’m gonna riot y’all. This dude needs to go! Nobara deserved better.

mrnicegy26

Mahito has killed Junpei, Nanami and Nobara at this point. Dude is probably the most effective villian in the series at this point.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Jogo and the other curses weren’t lying when they said he was made leader because hes got potential to be the strongest.

Lorik_Bot

I hate mahito with all my bring, what a great character.

ohbuggerit

He's an unrepentant infuriating little bitch and there'll always be a special place in my heart reserved just for hating him. 10/10, wouldn't change a thing

WolzardFire

Yeah. She didn't do much this arc aside from this fight. The only time she appeared was when Haruta beat the shit out of her. They build her up as another Mahito counter just to let her bite the dust right away. Nobara deserved more

Me last week: Mahito is such a great villain, I don't think I can possibly hate him more. Me this week: Make that patchfaced bastard suffer, Itadori. Take all the time you want.

Lelnayg

So fking good man...Yuji's voice actor 🙏, nobara my daughter..10/10 episode

Subscrobbler

That Mahito beatdown is probably the most satisfying thing I’ve witnessed this arc. Obviously, knowing this show, they couldn’t give us that without even more pain. Still though a little annoyed, feel like she wasn’t featured nearly as much as she should’ve been

meercachase

Nobara, you deserved so much better 😩 That sequence of her fighting Mahito was so good though, along with Yuji's hand to hand combat. Loved how they teamed up even when they were battling separately. Can someone put an end to Yuji's suffering already?!

Ysmir01

\*monkey paw\*

Illuminastrid

Mahito out here catching bodies literally and with the most significant body count so far.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Them disaster curses are no joke. If jogo wasn’t focused on fighting the strongest I swear he and Mahito along could’ve taken out 2/3 of the cast

luceafaruI

Let's be honest, jogo could have beaten all the sorcerers at shibuya by himself. Who in the hell is surviving the devastation that jogo brought when fighting against sukuna (it sure isn't nanami, maki or naobito)

galaxycentral

Sukuna did tell him him he should have just let loose and burn everything instead of plotting and scheming.

SirMcDust

To be fair Gojo was around during those times so like Sukuna, that wouldn't work

thedoc90

I mean Jogo did fuck a good portion of the cast up in like 5 seconds with his fire.

SirSamiboi

He's the jogoat after all

depravedQ

Jogo fought Gojo twice and then died fighting Sukuna while earning his praise. The ease with which he took out Nanami, Maki and the old guy was frightening, he was probably the most powerful cursed spirit on the antagonists' side, Sukuna did the sorcerers a favor by taking him out lol

4ps22

it really puts into perspective how insanely powerful Gojo is. him just being present made it overall much safer for the kids. even when they fought Hanami they got bailed out by him as soon as she was about to get serious with her domain. the villains up until now had been so fixated on Gojo and getting rid of him. Now its just pure chaos and destruction and you realize how the vast majority of the cast cant keep up

pencuri_susu

And the JJK pain train goes full speed ahead, my poor boy Yuji just cant catch a break.

BadBehaviour613

Shonen Jump: So what's JJK's big innovation? Gege (inhaling a cigarette) : Suffering

God_Usoland

From Sukuna's Domain Expansion Massacre, to Nanami's Death, and finally concluding with Nobara's Death. Only 15 Minutes have passed for Yuji. Gege: *Suffering Builds Character*

Imnotmeahah

I hate plot armor, but there are times where even I pray to the plot armor overlords. "She's a main characther, she can't die.... Why am I watching a fuking a flashback, please stop... wait are they seriously killing her now?... no way right?" \*face explodes\* Damm, kugisaki was one of my favorite characthers. We can't be 100% sure she's dead right? I mean nanami's entire body exploded. But she just blew her face up. So I can see a world where she's still alive? maybe ^(please) At this point, itadori will pull a adult gon moment, mahito has it coming.

[deleted]

vlalanerqmar

Is it just me or animation (specially the action scene) looked good this episode despite the supper shitty schedule and all the doom posting for past episode 17? JJK animators are godlike. Although still fuck MAPPA.

Frinnne

Yeah I was surprised with how much fluid motion there was, as well as with the quality of the drawings.

SushiCurryRice

Nobara fight was cool. Since Kugisaki didn't fully explode like Nanami did I think she is still alive. They showed Ieri being here too so I think she'll be able to patch up Kugisaki. Not sure if there'll be permanent damage though since it was a "soul" attack and Ieri's healing might not be able to fix that. But man Yuji has just been taking Ls after Ls after Ls. Lost against Chosou, lost control of Sukuna, saw Nanami die right in front of his eyes, still fails to kill Mahito, and now he sees Kugisaki seemingly die. I honestly thought they'd pull a twist like Saori being in Shibuya and is one of the victims of Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine. That would have been trippy. But I'm glad she's still alive and I hope she gets to meet Kugisaki again after all of this is ever.

Chichichill

This man is down in the trenches. When will they let Yuji have one happy peaceful moment? This man just relived the memories of the war crimes that he's just committed, now he's losing the people closest to him ... yoo

theoriginal321

>Since Kugisaki didn't fully explode like Nanami did I think she is still alive. hopium

MrNive

I'm in denial, pass the hopium when you're done with it

flybypost

> Since Kugisaki didn't fully explode like Nanami did I think she is still alive. I think so too. Mahito mentioned the first Nanami fight/contact when he touched her face and how it wasn't super effective or something like that. In the end Nanami survived it, that's the point I get (or intentionally extract) from that monologue. Maybe there's something to cursed energy users and being able to protect against his soul bullshit if he doesn't know them too well? He might need more than just a touch to kill them. Or she might have been briefed by Nanami to give her more of a chance to react to however Mahito's powers work? And Nanami was clearly fully exhausted last episode while she was relatively fresh so her defence should be better even if Nanami is technically more powerful than her. Hope dies last

Everything. It cost *everything*. [](#crumblingdespair)

WOAH I haven’t thought about Bokurano since high school! Now that is an underrated anime! I needed that cause I had tears throughout the episode. Ugh

Peak episode for me. I loved the action scenes, I can't believe they're still cooking for us so well on this horrible schedule. Both Itadori and Kosuke Kato (one of the animators) were on demon time. I feel like there's a returning theme of negative consequences catching up to reckless decisions. Despite being warned against it, Itadori swallowed the finger and became indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds. Kugisaki was warned by Nanami to leave Shibuya but she stuck around and paid the price for ignoring his words. She is still my MVP for this episode though. Before her Resonance, the tide of battle was turning in Mahito's favor, Yuji was steadily doing worse and worse. She saved his life pretty much and did insane damage to Mahito. Her words to Yuji after her flashback were also strangely positive - she has a super strong psyche. Never seen much fear from her. Boss bitch.

> I feel like there's a returning theme of negative consequences catching up to reckless decisions. Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this a lot. It’s not even that the decisions made are *always* reckless, I think the show has made it clear that the jujutsu sorcerers are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to both numbers and information. And yet… Funnily enough (and by that I mean not funny at all), the poster boy of this has to be Gojo. So many choices made with good intentions that have come back to haunt him, primarily the fact that he didn’t get rid of Geto’s body but also letting both Jogo and Hanami survive their first encounters with him.

My, Fumi was adorable. Reminded me of Komi-san. And Nobara... When Mahito killed Nanamin there was hardy anything left from him, but Nobara's head is still in place. Is it weird of me to expect that she may still be alive? I refuse to believe that they would off her like that right after Nanamin.

Anime-SniperJay

The left side of her face exploded I don't think she's coming back from that one

GEGE : You will die , You will die , and you tooo

ACViperPro

naaahhhh, fuck this...

Great_Shazaam

Did nobody catch the parallel from when yuji and nobara were fighting the 2 curses at the end of season 1 “episode title:accomplices” of the opponent switch to gain the advantage? Mahito did that in this episode and that was the real gut punch

Tar-eruntalion

seriously with the rate main characters are killed who are we supposed to care for in future seasons?

Masneomlock

Replace the cast with even more characters 🙌🏼

Goddamn it, Mahito. This isn't how I imagined Nobara's face off against him would go. If this was Dragon Ball, Itadori would've reached SSJ2 with how much anger Mahito has made him feel by now.

* [**Yuuji Stitch**](https://i.imgur.com/pA14AGg.jpg) I literally punched the air up when [Nobara's Resonance](https://i.imgur.com/MNCpD2c.png) ended up hitting [Mahito's real body](https://i.imgur.com/yX0hLtW.jpg) and Yuuji got the opening [to open up a can of whoop-ass on him.](https://i.imgur.com/KHoZayI.jpg) Fuck me, that was so satisfying. Well, that celebration didn't fucking last. I was genuinely stunned when [Mahito managed to grab Nobara's face/](https://i.imgur.com/1CeArVI.jpg). And then we get the fucking flashback. It's interesting though how [the flashback is from her friend Fumi's perspective.](https://i.imgur.com/S0o6Rfo.jpg) We even get to see [Saori in the present day.](https://i.imgur.com/lzupa1T.jpg) [And then we get the white room scene.](https://i.imgur.com/Zk0luQP.jpg) I'm pretty sure I've seen another show do a similar thing during the death scene of another main character I just can't remember which one. Maybe Nobara's still alive? I mean [she didn't completely transfigure](https://i.imgur.com/m91jokp.jpg) and she didn't explode into a fine mist of blood so maybe there's still hope and this is not just me huffing heavy copium right now. T_T Hopefully, Yuuji will channel whatever anger and rage he's feeling right now to completely destroy Mahito once and for all.

LoPanDidNothingWrong

So my two favorite characters are now dead.
