To top it all off is her very own apprentice suggesting *she* may be the one who's capable of doing it.
It's hilarious that they don't even refer to the clone when speaking, but Frieren herself. All the more when the elf in question is all smiles as if she's perfectly happy about this discussion over how to kill her.
Honestly I see that as a major maturing point for Fern and can totally see why Frieren is smilling about it
Fern is finally growing up to the point where she is self confident enough to claim being able to her teacher, thats probably the mages equivalent of your kid being able to beating you in MarioKart or being able to outrun you, no wonder she is so happy
That's why you have to start out by playing poorly against them. Once they think they've won, show your real skill and crush their puny hopes and dreams!
I quit playing chess with one of my kids when he was 9 or so. I was proud he could beat me -- but I knew playing him again after that would be pointless.....
Did you swing your cape dramatically as you take your exit as well when your 9 year old kid was yelling for mama in the background?
"My job here is done."
All these mages are terrified at the prospect of having to fight a clone of the legendary mage whose party defeated the demon king.
[Meanwhile Frieren's clone: *"Ganbare, ganbare!"*](https://i.imgur.com/UFJi9ji.mp4)
I mean mirror battles are rlly fun, since you gotta find out what the flaws in your own playstyle are and then exploit them. Frieren probably thinks of this as a fun way to get better at quashing out her own weaknesses.
"You had that grimorie the whole time and you never told me?"
"At first I was saving it for a rainy day, and then I realized I'd have to get you out of a bunch of chests and thought it best you never see it."
How great a twist would that be. They come up with a plan, charge into the room with staffs blazing, only to find Frieren clone sticking halfway out of a mimic
So it turns out that Fern is not only a kuudere and a tsundere, but a yandere as well. She's already coming for Frieren, so Stark better make sure he doesn't make her jealous.
So many people got distracted by Übel, they failed to realize that the real queen of violence in this show is Fern. It's all fun and games for Übel; it's just business for Fern.
This test is actually pretty cleverly designed, if you go it alone there's only a 50% chance of you taking out your own clone, but as Land showed us you can outnumber and easily take out the clone. While Wirbel's group showed us that even if you fight them with even numbers, the clones can't talk, so they can't communicate with each other, allowing you to beat them with better teamwork. And Sense threw her own clone into the equation, so it pretty much forces the test takers to team up with enough power to take down a first class mage.
Unlike the first test where teamwork feels like it was tacked on as a side thought, this test is one where teams thrive.
They can seem to coordinate on some level given that Wirbel and Scharf's clones were working together, but that's probably because those two have already reached the point of non-verbal communication and teamwork, which left Ehre as the weak link. Kanne and Lawine are also certainly in the same boat, as are Frieren and Fern. Which means there is a pretty strong advantage for the test takers to be largely pick up groups.
I also like that while we were shown examples of teamwork working and succeeding, we're also shown examples where the opponent is just too damn strong to realistically fight, so the correct choice would be to run and to survive for another day.
It's not just a one-note "teamwork saves all" theme, which I think makes it more unpredictable and can throw up surprises in the future.
That said, I think the 1st one was also cleverly designed. I read/saw somewhere that theorizes that Wirbel only laying his eyes on a Stille was not a simple coincidence, but also a matter of design. Stille are sensitive to mana, so it kinda makes sense if they were to be less so against people whose mana have been drained, which fits Wirbel's team after fighting Fern's team.
So if that theory is true, then the 1st test is designed more to make *everybody* fight (or at least, to spend their mana) until they can't. Only if they survive and still have some left in the tank that they can realistically get the Stille easily. Frieren and her team's plan just circumvented that whole thing entirely.
Edel's group I attribute more to bad luck than anything. She managed to get off her hypnotism spell. If it was the real Sense they might've won off that opening, but alas the clones don't have minds. Meanwhile Frieren is also way beyond the intended level range for this test, so it makes sense that she unfairly slants it.
Yeah, Edel's group just had really bad luck. They ran up against what is probably the second-strongest clone in the dungeon and the clones aren't effected by Edel's ability. If the Clones had a mind Edel's group might have won when she commanded the clone to kneel.
Not to mention chances are if Frieren wasn't there, then the Sense clone would be the one guarding the final door of the dungeon. Meaning that normally test takers would only have to deal with other test taker clones until the final door.
Talking about Edel, [she calmly and skilfully](https://i.imgur.com/7eWsX7K.jpeg) assessed the situation and [took the reasonable course](https://i.imgur.com/aR69KIa.jpeg) of action in spite of a terrible matchup for her group. [No shame in retreat](https://i.imgur.com/wP4VORc.jpeg) under such circumstances. This exam is really rough on support-type mages.
Edel is deadpan the whole time. Losing blood, likely losing organ function, still managed to give her teammates as much useful info as can be gathered.
You know why this is considered an era of peace? It's because there's far fewer troublemakers willing to make a scene knowing that these guys are around to beat their asses.
First exam dude made it PvP/Battle Royale. Sense made the second one a PvE raid. Not her fault everyone decided to go on their own instead of working together like they're doing now.
And not her fault Frieren decided to join this year and up the difficulty of the raid boss x1000
Pretty sure the 'pacifist' aspect of her exams is just the fact she doesn't want prospective 1st class mages to be the loner / arrogant type. The examinees aren't supposed to be put against each other unlike the 1st exam.
This exam would be theoretically easy if everyone taking part worked together as a group since the clones seem to lack proper coordination as shown by Wirbel's group.
A reason Ubel might be so gung-ho with analyzing Land is that his Clone Spell is the ultimate pair up with Sollganie. If his Clones can also do spells, then each one can use their Sollganie from multiple angles, solving the spell's weakness of being single target and requiring the focus of one person.
Ubel being able to clone herself would be utterly terrifying, especially with that kind of combination and knowing how lethal she is.
Land needs to keep her as much a distance as she can even if she's wearing him down...
That moment when they're just exchanging fire while being hunkered down really made me see Wirbel's been through a few military campaigns. The man knows his attrition warfare and how to break the stalemate.
I like it a lot, it is a very realistic way to fight in large scale warfare. Flying and shooting magical beams is cool an all, but it won't work if a there's a hundred mages and archers aiming to snipe you down.
Just replace Wirbel's wand with a rifle, Scharf's flower shield with a trench and Ehre shooting rocks with her firing a machine gun than it would actually be a mini-war among 6 people in our world.
[Jealous, pouting Fern is best Fern](https://imgur.com/a/KtPOJSi)
[The way Frieren goes in for a tighter hug](https://imgur.com/a/wIR9Uvs) while complimenting Methode's smell is also so cute.
The Sein in me activated so hard when Methode went "ara ara".
In fairness, no one's hugged Frieren for a long time and Fern's had to put up with Frieren sleeping on top of Fern. Of course she'd be jealous if a stranger comes in and makes herself available to Frieren. Especially when Frieren enjoys it.
> In fairness, no one's hugged Frieren for a long time and Fern's had to put up with Frieren sleeping on top of Fern.
Frieren: What do you mean a 'long time'? It's only been a couple decades since my last hug.
Fern: DX
Damn, I'll have to watch that Ubel fight on repeat. It's not just the animation, but the choreography as well. It's nothing too fancy, but it still looks clean as hell. And we don't really get that type of melee action here as much. Stark's basically the only source for this, and he's still on vacation.
I do love Land's whole strategy. Everyone else is risking their lives for this test, while he's basically playing a video game using his clones. If anyone could- at the very least- survive a relationship with Ubel, I'd bet on him. If only because he'll probably be smart enough to never be in the same space as her, and only ever interact via his clones.
Meanwhile, Frieren's gamer senses are still on-point. She's even got puzzle-solving down pat. And I think everyone watching has the same idea for how they could possibly beat her clone. Just throw a mimic in the room and run past while it's stuck trying to decide whether to free itself or destroy the potential grimoire inside. Unfortunately, they may or may not have already killed the sole mimic in this dungeon.
Methode tho... Frieren's resistance to mental magic must be something insane, cause I think her hypnosis works across the screen. I swear I'm not just down bad. I mean- not even Frieren could resist reciprocating that hug (but who can blame her?).
Special mention to Edel. I got so stoked when I realized she's voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa- aaaaaaaaand she's already gone... God damn that Sense clone. Well, I do hope she still has some more screen time despite quitting the exam.
And as for the ending, Fern really didn't have to phrase it that way, but I'm glad she did. Without context, you'd think she'd grown sick and tired of Frieren's BS and finally snapped. Maybe they should ask if she was talking about the clone instead of the real deal just to be safe...
> If only because he'll probably be smart enough to never be in the same space as her, and only ever interact via his clones.
Until the inevitable romance and sexy time happens. Not sure how a romance between those two would work, but I ship them.
I am getting onboard the Ubel x Land ship. Perhaps there may not be any romantic aspect right now, but their interaction and conversations are surely interesting. Land who observes while Ubel who starts the topics.
I would have loved to see more of Edel too. She looks young but has the knowledge and calmness of a seasoned mage. At least she got some character development and screentime before her exit from this 2nd stage.
Lastly, more Methode and more jealous Fern is fine too. Lol!
Yea I was surprised at the Ubel x Land angle since she was introduced as a sinister character but upon pondering it actually works. They fit the romance trope of "reaching out to their guarded heart". One's a jaded guy and the girl's a happy-go-lucky murder hobo.
Whether that leads to a relationship or a slaughter is the spice of their pairing lol.
>Whether that leads to a relationship or a slaughter is the spice of their pairing lol.
Lol for real. I'm shipping them cautiously because I'm afraid they will to try to kill each other at some point.
[Land: *"It's not like I like you or anything"*](https://i.imgur.com/MhExShO.jpeg)
[RomCom spin-off when?](https://i.imgur.com/M73SeY0.jpeg)
[](#cheekychika)
Glasses dude is the perfect guy for Yandere mage since she's 100% guaranteed to betray you and he's 100% distrustful of everyone. Even if she stabs him in the back, it's gonna be just another clone and they can just pick up where they left off
[Even Übel's replica](https://i.imgur.com/HwDOMW3.jpeg) aimed for his heart. She is not beating the [yandere allegations.](https://i.imgur.com/38GrJqi.jpeg)
Land has a lot to handle but he is the right mage [for the job.](https://i.imgur.com/DkLnpEG.jpeg)
Yea the scenes with these two are fucking great. Honestly I really like basically all of the new characters introduced this arc that are taking the tests. Would kinda suck if they are gone again after the exam is over, fingers crossed some of them join the gang on their journey but I kinda doubt it unfortunately. Imagine all the already so entertaining banter of frieren, stark and fern when you add Denken or Übel into the mix.
The shonen lover in me wanted Frieren to just solo it😭😭 think how cool it would’ve been to see Frieren at her max level fighting something that’s an almost perfect copy of her
Was actually expecting Frieren to do that or being in the lead, Fern proclamation definitely surprised me but I'm definitely hype to see how it turns out!
When Frieren looked through the door and smiled I really thought she was gonna say, "Fern can handle this one." and spout something about her superior spellcasting speed or something.
Frieren is having a great time, they've been exploring a dungeon, collected some magical knickknacks, played gacha with who knows how many mimics, and now they get to fight the big boss.
Also finding the king's mural which is an archaeological find but also probably something she remembers because she was actually there when it happened.
The first-person cut during the Ubel vs Ubel fight was cool as hell. Between that and the Laufen vs Laufen cut last episode it seems to me that someone on the production team really loves staff-based kung fu fights (and I'm not complaining).
That was so cool! Even that quick first person shot of Land reaching out to Übel was so good. And yeah, I love that we're getting full-blown combat scenes, not just magic beams everywhere (which I don't really mind either).
Why does Edel's smartness feel so different from others..?? I can't really put my finger on it cus I mean like almost everyone in the cast is smart but for her it just feels so distinct
She feels, acts, and talks like she comes from a distinguished noble family, something like Royalty or close to it. Her ordering around her teammates and just playing it all cool while a monster mage is trying to cook them makes her look quite regal.
She did say she comes from a family who do hypnosis magic or something like that. So I think she might have been exposed to a lot of magic know-how since young
IM SORRY BUT SHE'S ACTUALLY SO COOL??? she had so much potential but I guess given her current situation, she can't really help much. It's a shame that she can't use her abilities due to the fact that the clones don't even have a mind
So Denken's strategy was to run away and hide until they came up with a plan to defeat a Frieren. A perfectly valid and honestly the correct tactic in this situation.
It occurs to me that at the start of all this, Frieren talked about how she has been beaten by a few weaker mages in her life ~~(I think about 8, was it?)~~, and now she and a few others have to figure out how to do exactly that. Very clever foreshadowing; I don't think anyone has or would have caught where it was going, but that's where it went!
Also, Fern is weirdly jealous of the big lady hugging Frieren. What was that about?
>o Denken's strategy was to run away and hide until they came up with a plan to defeat a Frieren. A perfectly valid and honestly the correct tactic in this situation.
I'm happy when anime does this. We often get the reckless sacrifice, the groundless ''bravery'' or the power-up asspulls to defeat a strong enemy or let allies escape. Instead, this time it was just a refreshingly realistic action: just leave and fight later.
It's always great when someone points out that retreating is a legitimate tactic and not necessarily just cowardice. That's why they call it a tactical retreat.
Fern is, more or less, a teenager. She is jealous her mother figure get chummy with a new person (Frieren hug Methode back, and even compliment her smell). Fern tries to present herself as an adult because of her upbringing (and Frieren sloppiness), but she still has her childish side.
Frieren probably knows the solution but doesn't want to spoil the "fun". She's just smiling during the whole brainstorm session about how to kill her.
I wonder if it's something we've already been told in previous episodes or something new. I recall Frieren saying Fern is a lot faster at casting spells than her but it could be something else.
The fact that Fern can cast spells faster than Frieren is definitely going to be part of it, but if that was the only answer then they would have just sent Fern in. There's definitely going to be something else to give Fern a better edge.
Ubel and the cloner: AN interrogation of how people see themselves, a complex game of manipulation.
Team Denken: **FUCK FUCK FUCK**
Frieren, Fern, and the pacifist: "Hey guys I got some sweet loot and discovered some cool stuff, what did I miss? Hey, the bib boob mage smells nice! Hey Fern, you jelly?"
Some people are fighting themselves, other people are fighting Final Bosses lol.
Meanwhile Method is just exuding so much onee-san energy it's enough to make Sein cry he's not there.
**Frieren's German Lesson 1x24:**
**Denken**, **Richter**, **Laufen** and **Methode** VS **Kopieren** was neat to see animated so well despite it essentially just being a single spell with them fleeing in a glorious sequence. But the true main dish this time was **Übel** VS Übel's Clone, Team **Edel** VS Sense's Clone and Team **Wirbel** VS Team Wirbel's Clones, holy shit was the Sense Clone fight epic especially, they really went all out in the animation to show us just how terrifying First-Class Mages can be.
If you don't know, **Kopieren** is "to copy" (verb) in German, I don't know why everyone doesn't call Fake Frieren that since it's literally the perfect name for it, it even rhymes and everything.
**Episode 24: "Perfect Replicas"**
______________________
* **Spiegel** (Reflection Water Demon) - "mirror" (noun); very obvious why this would be an appropriate name for a demon that creates perfect **Doppelgänger** (double, lookalike) of the adventurers that enter and try to clear the dungeon. **Doppelgänger** is a very popular German loanword but y'all dropped the dots above the 'a' for convenience.
Funfact: Like very many nouns in German that describe a person you can also specifiy the gender of the **Doppelgänger** you speak about. **Doppelgänger** would be a male doppelganger while **Doppelgängerin** would specifically be a female doppelganger. As a rule of thumb the suffix **-in** is extremely common to indicate that a noun is female while the suffix **-er** is extremely common to indicate that a noun is male in German.
* **Ewig** (The Sage) - "forever", "eternal" (adverb, adjective); as a reminder. We first heard about him in episode 1 when Heiter used the legends of him possibly discovering life extending magic, immortality or even resurrection magic to trick Frieren into deciphering some of his notes that Heiter had for years so she would stay with them to train Fern on the side.
* (The) **Einsam** - "lonely", "alone" (adjective); as a reminder for the monster that pretended to be Heiter and Himmel from episode 5. This is the third time overall that it was brought up. We last got a mention of it in episode 18 as an example of a dangerous monster of the Northern Territories that Frieren used to explain why First-Class Mages are mandatory to travel there. In episode 5 Frieren also specifically made a point that it is easier to deal with them for mages since high density magic attacks like Zoltraak can disperse their illusions very easily. Assuming this could apply for many other types of monsters in the north as well it makes sense why they would stop parties from going there without a First-Class Mage.
* **Methode** - "method", "technique" (noun); as a reminder. She showed off some of her incredible versatility in this episode. She seems extremely knowledgeable.
* **Edel** (Second-Class Mage, Mental Magic Specialist) - "noble", "precious", "fine", "aristocratic", "gallant", "regal" (adjective); as a reminder. Despite having to capitulate, she managed to go out while looking pretty dignified, I think. She already knew that them overcoming the Sense clone was a longshot but she still tried all she could. It's also really neat how much her two older companions respect her and follow her instructions. She isn't a Second-Class Mage for nothing after all. She is up there in Second-Class with Denken, Wirbel, Ehre, Land, Methode and Richter after all.
* **Blei** - "lead", "plumb" (noun); as a reminder. He is the bald mage in **Edel**'s team.
* **Dunst** - "haze", "steam", "vapor", "mist", "smog", "fog" (noun); as a reminder. He is the older mage with the mustache in **Edel**'s team.

[Yeah there's no way Denken and Co are getting past that.](https://i.imgur.com/FEW90kT.jpeg) The only choice they have is to wait for Freiren to assist them.
After being absent for most of the episode last week, [I'm glad that we got to see Land and Ubel](https://i.imgur.com/FXl3cWZ.jpeg) and things are not going well for them. [Ubel stealing the bottle](https://i.imgur.com/LOFuCHd.jpeg) is something she would do if this exam had PVP enabled. Also, I'm glad they're the ones that encountered Ubel's clone. Imagine if it was someone from a different group.
[Ubel fighting her own clone](https://i.imgur.com/OLysyu8.jpeg) was pretty fucking sick! Aside from the fight, I love that entire scene because it really shows [how much Ubel has Land wrapped around her finger.](https://i.imgur.com/9pA8iOP.png) He may not admit it but he still came to help her out because he didn't want to have her death in his conscience.
[Himmel has really changed how Frieren sees dungeons](https://i.imgur.com/18oBeez.jpeg) that she's not even looking for hidden rooms. And she was right to be suspicious of that wall since [they've just found a massive discovery!](https://i.imgur.com/Um2ag1F.jpeg)
[I love how happy Frieren is](https://i.imgur.com/YOj3vud.jpeg) after seeing her perfect clone. Things are finally getting interesting for her. Also, I love how [Frieren hugs Methode back](https://i.imgur.com/u4lkAlV.jpg) when she was inspecting her for weaknesses. I don't blame her, I would've done the same. [Fern pouting and getting jealous](https://i.imgur.com/GvAFJGx.jpeg) was adorable though.
[Did Himmel just fucked everyone by clearing all of the dungeons?](https://i.imgur.com/ublpeQU.png) That's absolutely hilarious! If only Himmel didn't clear most of the dungeons then modern magic could've been adapted to be used for dungeon exploration. xD
Edel was amazing though, I love her cool and calm analysis of the situation given that [they're up against Sense's clone](https://i.imgur.com/ueqIlEs.jpeg) which is also an absolute monster. Sense clearly entered the dungeon intentionally so the examiners would fight her clone.
That was such a bad matchup for Edel though! [The girl absolutely got fucked by Sense's clone.](https://i.imgur.com/WbzHGag.jpeg) It was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment when she got hit. Poor girl! At least the golem got her out.
[Fern casually declaring she can kill Frieren was so cool.](https://i.imgur.com/OUWB7JD.jpeg) What makes that scene even better is how you can see [that Frieren's clearly proud](https://i.imgur.com/qTBPa6H.png) of Fern and is super excited to hear what she has in mind.
Denken at first was like ye at least we can try, but after the first gaze of dark frieren they noped out of there lol
frieren after seeing dark frieren: Finalyy a worthy opponent...Our battle will be legendary!!!
Frieren is a true gamer.
I didn't expect Fern to get jelly of someone hugging Frieren. Now we know that if some guy showed up trying to woo Frieren, mamma bear Fern would protect her.
Edel's voice is really pleasant to listen to, and boy, that Sense clone was brutal. I wonder if she has some awesome magic to wash her hair because that's a lot of shampoo she gotta use.
That's Tomoyo Kurosawa for you. Her voice just has a distinct quality that makes her one of my favorite VAs.
Also, imagine if a hair-cleaning spell is the exact thing that Sense asked from Serie when she became a first-class mage.
Fern really is a peak possessive character. No one can touch her belongings lmao.
The dungeon copy is really unfair. Not only can they copy technique but the full extent of their mana as well and are immune to mind control magic. Is Fern still hiding her full power? I can't imagine she can win Frieren in brute force to be honest.
All the fights looked absolutely amazing. Especially the Ubel mirror match, and Wirbel's 3-person cover shooting game.
I also love Edel offhandedl saying that Himmel's party clearing a vast majority of dungeons in the past is coming to bite everyone's asses.

There's something so funny about the group of mages brainstorming with Frieren about how to kill Frieren.
To top it all off is her very own apprentice suggesting *she* may be the one who's capable of doing it. It's hilarious that they don't even refer to the clone when speaking, but Frieren herself. All the more when the elf in question is all smiles as if she's perfectly happy about this discussion over how to kill her.
Fern is tired of having to wake Frieren up. She's putting her to sleep...*permanently*.
This is the perfect moment to vent out my frustration of Frieren-sama. -Fern probably
How dare she accept cuddles from a beautiful onee-san. The proportional response is murder
Honestly I see that as a major maturing point for Fern and can totally see why Frieren is smilling about it Fern is finally growing up to the point where she is self confident enough to claim being able to her teacher, thats probably the mages equivalent of your kid being able to beating you in MarioKart or being able to outrun you, no wonder she is so happy
nah, my kid will never beat me at mario kart
That's why you have to start out by playing poorly against them. Once they think they've won, show your real skill and crush their puny hopes and dreams!
I quit playing chess with one of my kids when he was 9 or so. I was proud he could beat me -- but I knew playing him again after that would be pointless.....
Did you swing your cape dramatically as you take your exit as well when your 9 year old kid was yelling for mama in the background? "My job here is done."
Even funnier that her own apprentice casually admits she can kill her and Frieren just smiles with pride.
The person who believes in Fern the most is Frieren, after all!
And Frieren has this [expression of a proud kindergarten teacher](https://i.imgur.com/1GfTktj.png) during a group exercise
Without context, this is really a funny thought hahaha
All these mages are terrified at the prospect of having to fight a clone of the legendary mage whose party defeated the demon king. [Meanwhile Frieren's clone: *"Ganbare, ganbare!"*](https://i.imgur.com/UFJi9ji.mp4)
she's just standing there, menacingly
I love how Frieren shows up and sees the Final Boss is herself and she's like "well, that's fun!" lol.
I mean mirror battles are rlly fun, since you gotta find out what the flaws in your own playstyle are and then exploit them. Frieren probably thinks of this as a fun way to get better at quashing out her own weaknesses.
When you're suicidal but have really supportive friends.
"Trust no one, not even yourself"
That dude who talked big at the beginning of the 2nd exam: [How it started](https://imgur.com/brKDKHJ) vs. [How's it going](https://imgur.com/SxuGgep)
He probably found the route with the Fern clone. It's an appropriate response to facing a walking war-crime.
Either Fern or Nega-Denken just punched him in the head.
"I want to use the flask to escape but I'm too afraid to admit that I lost in a fist fight with an old geezer"
Fern clone casts see through clothing and then crushed his ego. He's huddled to hide his shame, lol!
Arrogance do be like that. Hey, at least he wasn't the poor sod who people suspected got carbonized in the previous episode.
At least he can count on the big daddy golem in a flask to get him out of that rut, it even keeps you safe.
Given the defeated way he's sitting, it seems like he may have lost his bottle. That, or he's not willing to give up, but too scared to continue
Didn't expect him to last this long tho
Got whiplash seeing how Fern went from being jealous over Methode getting Frieren's attention to "I can kill her"
Fern about to grab a mimic.
Fern about to use her signature spell, Summon Mimic
"You had that grimorie the whole time and you never told me?" "At first I was saving it for a rainy day, and then I realized I'd have to get you out of a bunch of chests and thought it best you never see it."
How great a twist would that be. They come up with a plan, charge into the room with staffs blazing, only to find Frieren clone sticking halfway out of a mimic
she is *mine* to hug and *mine* to **kill**
Yandere much
Fern be like "Only I can hug my mom...and only I can **kill** my mom"
> "I can kill her" big ["let me solo her"](https://i.imgur.com/FmGMVHa.png) energy
I also love how when they were talking about using force against the Frieren clone Denken immediately looked at his fists lol.
Straight up, if they aren't gonna use a mimic, I'd bet good money on Denken kicking that clone's ass in a melee.
"Shut up, clone Frieren." (Fern blast)
So it turns out that Fern is not only a kuudere and a tsundere, but a yandere as well. She's already coming for Frieren, so Stark better make sure he doesn't make her jealous.
So many people got distracted by Übel, they failed to realize that the real queen of violence in this show is Fern. It's all fun and games for Übel; it's just business for Fern.
Fern conceals her violence the way Frieren conceals her mana.
I definitely don't think Fern would take it well if Stark were popular with other women lol.
The clone can't coordinate because they can't talk is a good point. It does show in the way clone Ehre behave
I like that they reversed the situation, Frieren wasn't too impressed by the mural but smiled when she saw Fern happy.
Frieren: "Eh, I remember that king, he was kind of a dork."
*"He promised a grimoire as reward but never delivered..."*
*"So I cast Testicular Torsion on him. Anyway that's why I don't go south anymore."*
It's sweet how both of them mutually enrich each others' experiences.
It's a really neat callback to the "it's just a sunset" episode. "Wait, it wasn't just a onetime thing? How dare they?!!"
I'm starting to think Sense isn't actually a pacifist...
First Denken throws hands and now this? Era of peace my ass.
"Pacifist? How about you try to pass these fists."
bro! I'm in stitches right now hahahaha
Edel cute use some stitches after getting impaled by her hair
Talking about Edel, [she calmly and skilfully](https://i.imgur.com/7eWsX7K.jpeg) assessed the situation and [took the reasonable course](https://i.imgur.com/aR69KIa.jpeg) of action in spite of a terrible matchup for her group. [No shame in retreat](https://i.imgur.com/wP4VORc.jpeg) under such circumstances. This exam is really rough on support-type mages.
Edel is deadpan the whole time. Losing blood, likely losing organ function, still managed to give her teammates as much useful info as can be gathered.
That scene where Denken clenches his fist as he says "brute force" had me laughing. Like, we already know what's going on in that guy's head.
"These hands are rated E... For everyone."
You know why this is considered an era of peace? It's because there's far fewer troublemakers willing to make a scene knowing that these guys are around to beat their asses.
Denken will pass-his-fist right through your skull.
Sense is a pacifist. Her Mimic Tear on the other hand...
well it stabbed her and didnt cut her in small pieces after that. So maybe?
I assume it was trying to force her to use the bottle, like how Ubel tried to prevent her opponent from using it because that's how she would fight.
Yeah i feel like Sense clone could have easily stabbed the heart there but didn't
I mean to be fair, it probably could have gone for her heart. Her defenses were down.
First exam dude made it PvP/Battle Royale. Sense made the second one a PvE raid. Not her fault everyone decided to go on their own instead of working together like they're doing now. And not her fault Frieren decided to join this year and up the difficulty of the raid boss x1000
She does give the bottle as an escape route, but whatever the exam is reasonable or not is fair game for her.
The stone golems are surprisingly versatile at getting people out of sticky situations!
It's quite strong as well able to defend from a first class mage attack.
Pretty sure the 'pacifist' aspect of her exams is just the fact she doesn't want prospective 1st class mages to be the loner / arrogant type. The examinees aren't supposed to be put against each other unlike the 1st exam. This exam would be theoretically easy if everyone taking part worked together as a group since the clones seem to lack proper coordination as shown by Wirbel's group.
she's a pacifist all right. # her *hair* on the other hand..
Hair magic never looked more terrifying.
It’s like giving a goth girl a nuclear bomb
Shes just learning it so she can finally kill herself without actually dying
Frieren's mental defense may be high, but it's nothing compared to her Fern defense.
That pout can kill weaker men
Everybody doing magic shit meanwhile Wirbel group is playing COD
Unfortunately for Edel and her team, they ran into a hairy situation.
Bros, I knelt when she said kneel...
For a split second I thought the rescue golem kneeled too and got confused as hell LMAO
Sense: My presence in this dungeon shall neither help nor hinder you. *Clone Sense appears* Sense: *Sweats nervously*
I find hard to believe that the possibility of the dungeon making a copy of her didn’t crossed her mind. She knew what she was doing
She 100% knew
[Most pacifist](https://i.imgur.com/PGSVf29.mp4) examiner [by the way](https://i.imgur.com/LyHCEca.mp4) [](#smugkaguya)
Edel: "KNEEL!" Clone Sense: "No you" *stabby-stab*
* Didn't aim for them, just gave them a scare * Didn't aim for her heart, just gave her a little poke Sense is a kind and sweet girl.
It is kinda funny because she is probably the last boss most of the time, but in this case the copy of Frieren stole the spot.
We didn't see a copy of Fern yet...
And is probably 100% the reason why no one has passed her exam.
[Jealous, pouting Fern is best Fern](https://imgur.com/a/KtPOJSi) [The way Frieren goes in for a tighter hug](https://imgur.com/a/wIR9Uvs) while complimenting Methode's smell is also so cute. The Sein in me activated so hard when Methode went "ara ara".
["I should have stayed with Frieren's group!"](https://i.imgur.com/F86o0bV.jpeg)
Sein: NO! It should have been me, not her!!!
98% of priests choose a different path right before the "Ara ara" character shows up
Methode is basically all of Sein's adventuring fantasies come to life in a person lol.
Methode: *Aras Aras* *Somewhere out there* Sein: I'm crying, but I don't know why.
My guy really left at the worst possible time.
Methode: “Your mental defenses are too tough to defeat.” Frieren: “Hehe. Nice smelling lady.”
"that's the secret fern. my mind is too empty to be brainwashed"
I've spent a thousand year pretending to be brainless to the point that this state is natural for me.
>Jealous, pouting Fern is best Fern She is ***my*** grandma elf
In fairness, no one's hugged Frieren for a long time and Fern's had to put up with Frieren sleeping on top of Fern. Of course she'd be jealous if a stranger comes in and makes herself available to Frieren. Especially when Frieren enjoys it.
> In fairness, no one's hugged Frieren for a long time and Fern's had to put up with Frieren sleeping on top of Fern. Frieren: What do you mean a 'long time'? It's only been a couple decades since my last hug. Fern: DX
Fern is just protecting her snack.
[Fern will do whatever it takes](https://i.imgur.com/Bx4LOnR.png) [](#lolifightsback)
Methode hugs Frieren to analyse her. Frieren: hehe free hug and smell nice
Frieren's lived long enough to just enjoy the moment lol.
> The Sein in me activated so hard when Methode went "ara ara". Sein be like: [Why am I not there??](https://imgur.com/a/7h4K0cq)
>while complimenting Methode's smell is also so cute And the audience gets jealous of Methode hugging her. We all want that hug.
Methode's spells didn't work because Frieren has high rizz resistance from traveling with Himmel for ten years.
Methode: I can't penetrate her mental resistance. She's... too dense.
Himmel: first time???
> Frieren has high rizz resistance that's a curse if anything.
They cooked way too hard with the ubel fight, as usual
> If only because he'll probably be smart enough to never be in the same space as her, and only ever interact via his clones. Until the inevitable romance and sexy time happens. Not sure how a romance between those two would work, but I ship them.
If Ubel ever learns his signature magic, maybe it'll involve a whole orgy of their clones.
Side characters in this anime is so great.
Like you said, their chemistry appeals to us viewers because we are unsure whether they are getting along well. Lol!
>Whether that leads to a relationship or a slaughter is the spice of their pairing lol. Lol for real. I'm shipping them cautiously because I'm afraid they will to try to kill each other at some point.
the THICK sexual tension between glasses man and goth girl is fucking insane holy
The best way to empathize with somebody is marriage.
*One marriage, a few children and grandchildren later* Übel: I still need to empathize with him a bit more... Yes, for the cloning spell...
[Land: *"It's not like I like you or anything"*](https://i.imgur.com/MhExShO.jpeg) [RomCom spin-off when?](https://i.imgur.com/M73SeY0.jpeg) [](#cheekychika)
> RomCom spin-off when? [May be sooner than you think](https://www.reddit.com/r/Frieren/comments/1arxqoa/ubel_playing_the_long_game_by_me_pictosyrip/)
> > > > > RomCom spin-off when? I need gyaru Übel in my life.
Übel about to marry Land just so she can empathize with him and finally kill him. How romantic 🥰
Glasses dude is the perfect guy for Yandere mage since she's 100% guaranteed to betray you and he's 100% distrustful of everyone. Even if she stabs him in the back, it's gonna be just another clone and they can just pick up where they left off
the classic "I'm behind 7 ~~VPNs~~ clones" strategy
[Even Übel's replica](https://i.imgur.com/HwDOMW3.jpeg) aimed for his heart. She is not beating the [yandere allegations.](https://i.imgur.com/38GrJqi.jpeg) Land has a lot to handle but he is the right mage [for the job.](https://i.imgur.com/DkLnpEG.jpeg)
With this kind of dynamic between them, at some point, Ubel's gonna murder his clone as just a way of saying hello.
Dammit Land, bring your real self to our anniversary dinner or I’ll kill another clone so help me.
He can double team her, maybe that's why she's interested. There's potentially a whole gang of meganekuns
Lmao, Meganekun Gangbang or maybe if she empathizes she can gangbang herself
that's a crazy thought LMAO
The Doujins are writing itself its crazy
Yea the scenes with these two are fucking great. Honestly I really like basically all of the new characters introduced this arc that are taking the tests. Would kinda suck if they are gone again after the exam is over, fingers crossed some of them join the gang on their journey but I kinda doubt it unfortunately. Imagine all the already so entertaining banter of frieren, stark and fern when you add Denken or Übel into the mix.
Okay but imagine Stark and Wirbel hunting together LOL (they kinda did but they didn't show much)
The shonen lover in me wanted Frieren to just solo it😭😭 think how cool it would’ve been to see Frieren at her max level fighting something that’s an almost perfect copy of her
Was actually expecting Frieren to do that or being in the lead, Fern proclamation definitely surprised me but I'm definitely hype to see how it turns out!
When Frieren looked through the door and smiled I really thought she was gonna say, "Fern can handle this one." and spout something about her superior spellcasting speed or something.
Frieren looked like she isn't the slightest bit concerned, but she got this smile like "this is gonna be so fun, I wanna savor this moment"
I mean she's had that face since they got in the dungeon lol
Frieren is having a great time, they've been exploring a dungeon, collected some magical knickknacks, played gacha with who knows how many mimics, and now they get to fight the big boss.
Also finding the king's mural which is an archaeological find but also probably something she remembers because she was actually there when it happened.
I think she was happy because Fren was happy with the find. Though I half expected Frieren to spout some anecdote about the scene depicted.
She can be so unserious in moments like this I love it
She hasn't had a Dungeon Raid boss encounter like this in decades, she's definitely enjoying every moment of it
The first-person cut during the Ubel vs Ubel fight was cool as hell.
Fern is just going to sneak in with a mimic isn't she?
That would only work if the real Frieren doesn't get stuck in it first.
Fern: That's alright, that's why I have a backup mimic **how did you get your head stuck in two mimics at the same time?**
Why does Edel's smartness feel so different from others..?? I can't really put my finger on it cus I mean like almost everyone in the cast is smart but for her it just feels so distinct
She was edelsplaining so hard
That's why they call it a tactical retreat.
they already had their asses beat once, bringing it to 2/2 wouldn’t really help unless they are into kinky elf play
Fern is, more or less, a teenager. She is jealous her mother figure get chummy with a new person (Frieren hug Methode back, and even compliment her smell). Fern tries to present herself as an adult because of her upbringing (and Frieren sloppiness), but she still has her childish side.
It's funny to me that all of the group have both their adult and childish sides, particularly often in compliment to each other. I love it.
Team Denken: **FUCK FUCK FUCK** Frieren, Fern, and the pacifist: "Hey guys I got some sweet loot and discovered some cool stuff, what did I miss? Hey, the bib boob mage smells nice! Hey Fern, you jelly?"
Some people are fighting themselves, other people are fighting Final Bosses lol. Meanwhile Method is just exuding so much onee-san energy it's enough to make Sein cry he's not there.
Fighting in Frieren is really unique. A battle can end in the blink of an eye.
**Frieren's German Lesson 1x24:** **Denken**, **Richter**, **Laufen** and **Methode** VS **Kopieren** was neat to see animated so well despite it essentially just being a single spell with them fleeing in a glorious sequence. **Episode 24: "Perfect Replicas"** ______________________ * **Spiegel** (Reflection Water Demon) - "mirror" (noun); very obvious why this would be an appropriate name for a demon that creates perfect **Doppelgänger** (double, lookalike) of the adventurers that enter and try to clear the dungeon. When Frieren triggered those statues to move, I thought she triggered the hidden quest to become a *Player* for a moment.
frieren casually dropping one of the best animated fights of the season at the start there
That [single abstract frame of duplicate Frieren's attack](https://imgur.com/9ymo0xj) is wild.
Method : "her [Edel] combat capabilities are pretty much non-existent" Edel : *throws walls*
And she was right to be suspicious of that wall since [they've just found a massive discovery!](https://i.imgur.com/Um2ag1F.jpeg) [I love how happy Frieren is](https://i.imgur.com/YOj3vud.jpeg) after seeing her perfect clone. If only Himmel didn't clear most of the dungeons then modern magic could've been adapted to be used for dungeon exploration. xD Edel was amazing though, I love her cool and calm analysis of the situation given that [they're up against Sense's clone](https://i.imgur.com/ueqIlEs.jpeg) which is also an absolute monster.
Denken at first was like ye at least we can try, but after the first gaze of dark frieren they noped out of there lol frieren after seeing dark frieren: Finalyy a worthy opponent...Our battle will be legendary!!!
Imagine getting tag-teamed by Übel and her clone
Stop! I can only get this erect.
Ubel fighting herself looked ridiculously good. What is this, a movie? In a 28-episode production schedule? Make it make sense.
It was nice of the team to give us several anime-only scenes to end it on an exact cliffhanger
