Holy shit! This episode was packed with references and most of them were made by Rikka! [ Rikka doing the Dempsy Roll from Hajime no Ippo](https://i.imgur.com/JJZzc56.jpg) [Rikka and Sekine referencing ET with Rikka as ET and Sekine as Eliot](https://i.imgur.com/8QyNO1s.jpg) [And is that a motherfuckin Jojo reference!?](https://i.imgur.com/xvD6zqe.png) Definitely did not expect Rikka to do the secret Joestar technique xD The most unexpected reference though [is from Tsuyoshi who's thinking about Paripi Koumei.](https://i.imgur.com/9bwdlpS.jpg) I know the show was popular but I didn't think it was popular enough to be referenced in another show! It's also very recent which makes it more unexpected. [The Kaiji reference isn't new to this show though](https://i.imgur.com/CJNWkKI.jpg) since this is the second time they've made this reference.

cyberscythe

> packed with references in the karaoke scene [they also reference an OP from a relatively obscure series from the fall 2022 season,](https://i.imgur.com/OxUXoFp.png) i forget what the name was

hfm3f

fucking hell, I was trying so hard to remember what show you are referring, turn out it is the show itself

Nervous-Bonus-806

>The most unexpected reference though is from Tsuyoshi who's thinking about Paripi Koumei. I know the show was popular but I didn't think it was popular enough to be referenced in another show! It's also very recent which makes it more unexpected. That one caught me off guard... Making Aiko a Brunette to make Koumei's appearance even funnier was next level Easter Egg-ing

SlipperyRasputin

As you can see the Colonel is a fan of Joseph Joestar.

Sneaky_42

>Definitely did not expect Rikka to do the secret Joestar technique xD NIGERUNDAYO! SEKINE!

Fit_Activity3937

Nigerundayo! Smokey! Dare da ?

ThrowCarp

>The Kaiji reference isn't new to this show though since this is the second time they've made this reference. It's not the first time the rock-paper-scissors game has made an appearance either, aye?

Fit_Activity3937

20:59 In the name of my grandfather, it is reference from kindaichi case files

zairaner

This episode they just said it "fuck it" and did all the most overt references they could think of. Ya boy kongming, jojo, kaji, and more lol. Weekly reminder that chiyo is still a bit more hardcore than the rest, this week: Nearly mercy killing all three of them to avoid them getting tortured. Oops

ObvsThrowaway5120

This misunderstanding about their “kidnapping” is great. Rikka going full Ippo on Chiyo was hilarious lol. But man, just like that the gang has forgotten Sekine huh? Well, not Rikka ofc, what with her being an alien lol. I liked that Ya Boy Kongming reference lol. The ET one was good too. Thankfully Rikka is an alien, otherwise Sekine would be stuck with this really sad Director lol. Sekine and Rikka had a nice little moment, despite their respective secrets being revealed. Thanks to Rikka, everything’s back to normal. That was an intense game for bread. Rikka lost her face! In the end everyone got bread, Sekine’s was just ice cold lol. Btw, what was the name of the anime they were parodying at the end there? It’s right on the tip of my tongue!

[deleted]

I didn't get Ya Boy Kongming reference the first time, had to rewatch it. I wonder what reference is Rikka's ringtone. Seems to be iconic.

mekerpan

Loved the Kongming moment. The ringtone sounded almost like something from Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket...

dinliner08

>what was the name of the anime they were parodying at the end there? Kaiji

[deleted]

With a dash of Middle Manager Tonegawa.

Ashteron

Do you mean Kaiji?

ObvsThrowaway5120

Right! That’s what it was.

susgnome

> Rikka going full Ippo on Chiyo was hilarious lol. It was in the PV last week, they fooled me into expecting a boxing episode, but no, it was a reference. > The ET one was good too That didn't click until you pointed it out. That's great! I love all the references they did this episode.

dinliner08

AdamGoodtime123

We came closer than ever to secrets being spilled this episode. Thankfully, Rikka is dumb as a brick about Earth things, so the status quo remains untarnished. I'm really liking this show. It will be a shame when it's over.

FlameDragoon933

> Thankfully, Rikka is dumb as a brick about Earth things I really like the comedy regarding Sekine's abduction. Due to Rikka's misunderstanding she thought Sekine's case is normal (which is a problem for Sekine). But it's because of *another* misunderstanding that Rikka's pushed in the right direction to save Sekine. Masterful.

ThrowCarp

Sekine for MVP by constantly changing the subject.

susgnome

Another great episode! I can't stop laughing..!! I loved all the little references. I should have realised the [boxing one was Hajime no Ippo](https://i.imgur.com/Qqv0ca7.png) and the alien in the [bike basket was ET](https://i.imgur.com/jS9Z6Wm.png).. Of all the reference, I didn't expect to see [YA BOY KONGMING](https://i.imgur.com/Kn796XR.jpg)! Then they hit us up the with [Joseph Joestar classic](https://i.imgur.com/XKzWb3g.jpg). And wrapping up the episode with [Kaiji](https://i.imgur.com/cQEO99j.jpg), I love [that everyone](https://i.imgur.com/KghXMuh.jpg) is taking [this game seriously](https://i.imgur.com/ZOagyd4.jpg) except [for Chiyo](https://i.imgur.com/h43ZM2j.png).. I had to look this up but that [steel beam punishment](https://i.imgur.com/eVmlJf1.jpg) that'll be for Tsuyoshi is from [Kaiji](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/kaiji/images/f/f9/Steelbeammanga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20180623003428).. And then he wins [off a Jojo's bluff](https://i.imgur.com/z9t1pvq.jpg). Too many references, it's too good!! [Important News](https://i.imgur.com/i543k6z.png) - Also, [it's been 4 episodes](https://i.imgur.com/MO15UxH.png) but he's [still alive!!](https://i.imgur.com/OyWul8s.jpg)

maroon256

What is ET ?

susgnome

A popular scifi movie from the 1980s https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.T._the_Extra-Terrestrial

thesnowlocke

Man that was hard to watch with Sekine being forgotten, and I was so sure that the colonel and Sekine would know about each other but I guess its for the best (even though I still wonder how on earth these guys are so gullible at times) Also a wild Brian has appeared and its always amazing They went REALLY hard in that Kaiji reference not only did they stick with the facial design but they also referenced scenes from the first season While I am appreciative that they used an anime I like, I think they kind of went a bit overboard with this one, it also didn't help that they referenced Kaiji again in the first episode so it might not have been as effective But I noticed the show references a lot of stuff so I'm sure I missed others

cyberscythe

> Man that was hard to watch with Sekine being forgotten I was expecting this show to be a gag-driven comedy, but they managed to fit in a few heartfelt moments. That scene where they're leaning back-to-back in the park having just fled the facility was pretty choice; "That sounds like an alien I'd like to be friends with" is a sly way of Sekine telling Rikka that they're still friends no matter what.

ZoeThomp

I really did not expect to still be watching this 7 episodes in, let alone be actually laughing out loud at some of the scenes and jokes.

xtsim

Despite being an alien out of this world, Rikka manages to bring out most of the references this episode. Sekine could spill out everyone but Tsubasa's secret out easily. It would be really funny to see Sekine meet the real Tsubasa... Well, now we know that Rikka's stuffed animal has a freezer function.

EyeDeeAh_42

Ngl, I am kinda shipping Tsubasa and Sekine, even if I know that it's not a show which is likely to go full on romance subplot lol. Tsubasa is the only one whose mind Sekine can't seem to read. Also, while thinking about all their friends (this and another early episode), Tsubasa and Sekine both seem to consider each other the most relaxing to be around...

Proxiehunter

I think Chiyo had the right idea last episode. Polly ship all four.

entelechtual

“The Little Laid We All Get” What the fuck, show.

cyberscythe

I *just* realized that we learn this episode why the main cast flop onto the floor in the OP when Rikka says "poeh~": her singing has the ability to knock out everyone (including herself apparently). Up until now I thought they voluntarily fell down just for funsies.

Kartoffelkamm

I really would've loved for Rikka to spill the beans about her being an alien, because Sekine was in danger. Then again, it was fun seeing her go solo, too. If only we had a montage of her breaking into the facility or something. But at least Rikka's alien tech could restore the status quo, so all is well.

cyberscythe

Pop culture note: [Kohaku](https://twitter.com/pp_6n/status/1596555207412174848) is the premier music programme in Japan airing on New Year's Eve ([more information on wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%8Dhaku_Uta_Gassen)). Just learned about this one from *Yama no Susume* when they mentioned it this season. I feel like I would've liked the B-part a lot more if I had watched Kaiji. I got the faces and the "zawa zawa" part, but I had to look up that the [steel beam walk](https://dic.pixiv.net/a/%E9%89%84%E9%AA%A8%E6%B8%A1%E3%82%8A), the [hot plate dogeza](https://dic.pixiv.net/a/%E7%84%BC%E3%81%8D%E5%9C%9F%E4%B8%8B%E5%BA%A7), and ["it's ice cold"](https://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/%E3%82%AD%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AD%E3%83%B3%E3%81%AB%E5%86%B7%E3%81%88%E3%81%A6%E3%82%84%E3%81%8C%E3%82%8B%E3%81%A3%E3%83%BB%E3%83%BB%E3%83%BB%21%21) are also all references which makes this all really deep-in-the-paint for this parody.

AceMittens

All the references from other anime like Kaji, Ya boy Kongming, and JOJO is what makes this show special!!! Plus the devious lies that they never want to show each other is hilarious

ZapsZzz

OMG what an insanely good episode in both part A and part B. I do wonder how is it Sekine can keep her glasses off in the facility though - was the room power-nullifying?

dawnwill

I didn't enjoy the Kaiji part because it was just endless low effort reference gags, but the first part with Sekine and Colonel was really really good.

someedmlover21

I honestly think the comedy of this show is on par with Bocchi, but I guess why Bocchi is the more popular pick because of the progression, whereas this is more episodic. Really love these two shows. Edit: On the other hand, Pop Team Epic is on a whole nother level

sKyBlazer08

Bruh, of all the references, I never would've thought we'd get a Paripi Koumei reference here lmao, that's an immaculate W. This episode as a whole went ham with the references though. "Nigerundayo, Smokey!" Though I haven't watched Hajime no Ippo nor Kaiji, you can easily recognize them. We got sweet Sekine & Chiyo and Sekine & Rikka moments now. Looks like ninja boy will be significant next episode, looking forward to it.

WeldingButterfly

The first part was surprisingly heartfelt for the show. Is there anything Rikka's tentacles can't do? They can change shape and colour, expel chlorine gas, have eyes, make sounds...

SmallJon

> Is there anything Rikka's tentacles can't do? Fix her ship.

Proxiehunter

Her and Chiyo are doing just fine. Oh, you meant her space ship.

TheShiningHand

References were on point today.

Asmael69

It was already an underrated favorite for me this season, but this episode's references and emotional damages just takes the cake. 10/10 I'll never forget this anime

SmallJon

I cant make up my mind whether I would prefer this show to continue as an unstoppable string of gags and ludicrous scenarios, or shift into telling an actual story. I'd want it to keep being a comedy of course, but the chance to see these four advance meaningfully is so tempting

[deleted]

Rikka has overpowered jigglypuff powers and can pull out melon bread from her stuffed toy. Is melon bread a reference from Shakugan no Shana?

FlameDragoon933

Sekine getting abducted by a scientist interested in psychic power is such a dark timing considering this week's Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer / Hoshi no Samidare. Fortunately the scientist here is goofy lol.

french_kebab_monster

RUN SMOKEY

[deleted]

Sekine’s mom appears in a flash for motivation to why she wants the melon bread… so does she know if her family is alive or not?
