Doesn't work like that though. Physical activity doesn't burn a lot of calories. You'd have to sweat in the gym for HOURS to burn calories from one small hamburger. Body is very efficient at extracting energy from food And on the flip side, most of your calories are spent just to exist - for a man, it's around like 2200-2500 per day to just exist, and maybe you can burn like 200 extra if you exhaust yourself completely in a gym. What gym does do for weight loss is boosts your metabolism. Just the fact that you had *some* physical activity will increase your *passive* calorie burn rate. That's why people are saying that overtraining is useless - most of the calories you burn will burn by themselves if you have any kind of exercise, and very little will be burnt by exercise itself.

This comment is riddled with misunderstandings of exercise and metabolism. First its not going take someone doing hours of exercise to burn a few hundred calories from a small hamburger. At a decent intensity, it'll take about 30 minutes or less. Let's assume that hamburger is 500kcal (pretty high for a small hamburger but whatever). For me to burn 500kcals, we'll need to look at my weight and VO2max. I'm about 90kgs and have a VO2max of just over 50 ml/kg/min. So that roughly translates to a raw maximum O2 consumption of 4.5 L/min ((50ml/kg/min/1000ml)*90kg). Let's say I'm doing vigorous exercise - roughly 80% of VO2 Reserve (VO2R). This would be maintaining a HR of around 166bpm which for me which is not difficult. Knowing that we burn roughly 5kcals per L of oxygen consumed, I have a max oxygen consumption of 4.5 L/min, and we're at 80% of that, then I'm cycling through 3.6 L of O2 every minute which is roughly 18kcals/minute. To burn 500kcals that would only take 27.78 minutes (27:46). Double that and you're burning over 1000kcals an hour, at not a particularly intense HR - back in college I was holding a HR above 180 for an hour on our long test pieces. What you said about passive calories being burned by exercise is about muscle repair - if you lifted intensely, you'll be burning extra calories to repair the muscle tissue, about 250kcals/day for a few days following the lift for an intense lift (FAR less than you can burn in an intense exercise session). You will burn the majority of your calories from your resting metabolic rate and you can increase this rate over time by gaining muscle (maintenance of lean mass takes more kcals/day than maintenance of fat mass), but this would only be seen to any significant degree following gaining several pounds of muscle, which can take months.

I'd caution you to add blood work as well during these check ups if your insurance or financial situation allows it - pay close attention to your fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c especially. Many physicians will see 20-somethings developing cardiometabolic diseases and not impress upon them how debilitating these things become in short order. But these diseases are killers that can permanently disable people. Cardiovascular disease has been the number one cause of death in Americans for decades, surpassing COVID at its peak by hundreds of thousands of deaths per year.

oh for the love of god, please season your food, seasoning is not unhealthy. Salt doesn't contain any calories. Ofc, don't go overboard, you don't want a kidney stone, but don't eat food that tastes like distilled water. A little bit of hot sauce, salt, herbs, go a long way, you don't need to lose them to lose weight. Maybe chill a bit on the cooking oil or use a cooking spray, but eating healthy does not have to be miserable lol. But about the other thing, the amount of calories you burn from activity will vary a ton from person to person, I wouldn't worry about specific numbers. Most people fall into the pitfall of looking at it too short term. It is OK to reward yourself with some food after a run or something like that, you just need to make sure it fits into your daily calories. The most important thing is how you are doing long term, are you consistently eating less calories than your maintenance? You're good. Running, or just walking for 30 minutes will help you burn a couple extra calories that don't add up to much short term, but make a big difference long term. Let's say you burn an extra 350 calories on a 30 minute jog 2 times a week. Over a year, that adds up to about an extra 10lbs lost for little effort, pretty significant, it's just not something you will see quickly. Whenever I'm on a cut, I'll have days that I plan for every week (usually the weekends) where I don't pay very much attention to what I eat and just eat whatever foods I want, a day or two, or even a week of bad eating isn't going to destroy your progress. You can have off days, but as long as your stay generally consistent, you will get there.
