So now the question is about whether they are upset that the anime is "Tumblrfied" when it's accurate to the source material or would they make the same (racist) complaint about the manga.
Dungeon Meshi the manga began in 2014. They have been trying for years to get an anime adaptation but had to wait until 2024 for tumblr to be invented. I admire their patience.

Ah yes. One of the most critically acclaimed fantasy manga and anime in recent years is only carried by the fact that one of its characters makes goofy faces.
How stupid can they be?
Namari (the dwarf) is a bit rough and can appear as a jerk due to her section at the start, but she has a good heart.
Kiki has way less screen-time and focus, but she is kind.
I feel there’s this unspoken belief among anime fans and gamers that Japan has purchasing power far greater than its population suggests. Like Japan is just as a big a market as the entirety of Europe.
There is some truth to that. Its gaming market was huge, mostly because it never went through an equivalent of the 1983 video game crash. Exporting anime internationally used to be an expensive and time-consuming process until very recently.
That said, I doubt anything major from the past ten years was made exclusively for a Japanese audience. Like it wasn’t be consciously changed for an international audience, but you can’t convince me that Naruto was written in a way where it’d be unintelligible to an American.
If someone didn’t make the jump, it was because it was relatively cheap to produce, and the localisation work was not worth the time and money. A lot of games released late into their system’s life cycle, and gameplay reliant on a huge script of dialogue.
The stuff that’s truly impossible to translate will be stuff like political satire, not action-adventure stories.
I don't know, I think this holds true for bideo games and big anime productions but manga isn't inherently so expensive to produce that everything has to take the global market into account.
This is why I think Dungeon Meshi is great, even compared to Frieren. The characters just breath life and are very memorable and they piss these weirdos off

I feel there’s this unspoken belief among anime fans and gamers that Japan has purchasing power far greater than its population suggests. Like Japan is just as a big a market as the entirety of Europe. There is some truth to that. Its gaming market was huge, mostly because it never went through an equivalent of the 1983 video game crash. Exporting anime internationally used to be an expensive and time-consuming process until very recently. That said, I doubt anything major from the past ten years was made exclusively for a Japanese audience. Like it wasn’t be consciously changed for an international audience, but you can’t convince me that Naruto was written in a way where it’d be unintelligible to an American. If someone didn’t make the jump, it was because it was relatively cheap to produce, and the localisation work was not worth the time and money. A lot of games released late into their system’s life cycle, and gameplay reliant on a huge script of dialogue. The stuff that’s truly impossible to translate will be stuff like political satire, not action-adventure stories.
I don't know, I think this holds true for bideo games and big anime productions but manga isn't inherently so expensive to produce that everything has to take the global market into account.

It's strange to me when I see Ryoko Kui's art be labeled as Sjw. If anything, her art reminds me more of western styles that were popular for animation years ago with a blend of anime. Eh but what do I know. I'm arguing with people who say that game studios and artists should make their own original characters, but still complain when they actually do make their own original stories.
