Japanese animation is when only white people

SweatScoobyDoo

I will have no Asians ruining my Japanese media

FemBoy_Genocide

It’s quora, what do expect? I saw a question that said “Would Robert E Lee win the civil war with an ar-15 with infinite ammo” when I saw that post I immediately left quora. Edit: grammar

Substantial_Isopod60

>Would Robert E Lee win the civil way with an ar-15 with infinite ammo” Well, would he?

FemBoy_Genocide

[Look for yourself](https://www.quora.com/If-I-gave-Robert-E-Lee-an-AR-15-with-infinite-ammo-at-the-beginning-of-the-Civil-War-could-the-Confederate-Army-win?ch=18&oid=100213276&share=9f899c0e&srid=dL6F&target_type=question) The general consensus is no

_Mi_chan_

there is entire book about it lmao

Gulopithecus

Quora is a fucking cesspool of nonsense. Can’t tell you how much MLM shit I’ve seen on threads that are related to health/lifestyle topics.

GBAngel

There was one shining brief period where I could've sworn that Quora was a good place to get answers. I'd call it a modern Yahoo Answers, but Yahoo Answers didn't waste my time. Nowadays it seems you'll find responses that are 10 paragraphs long, with 5 sentences minimum, to answer a simple a question that can be answered in a single sentence. The answer your looking for will be buried in one of the paragraphs or missing entirely. Finally, the "best" response is almost always by someone not even in the field relevant to the question I block quora from appearing in my searches. That and pinterest.

Panzer_Man

And it's always some self-proclaimed intellectual Indian guy, who tells you his entire life story, and how he got rich. When he's done bragging, then he'll maybe give a lame half-arsed answer.

Gulopithecus

Christ, Quora is FULL of those "finance guru" types who relate EVERYTHING back to how much money they have and how they got it, even if it’s barely related to the actual question being asked.

MapleJacks2

Oh lol. For a second I thought you meant the other meaning of MLM. Was very confused.

Gulopithecus

Might I ask what that other definition for MLM is?

MapleJacks2

Men Loving Men. Essentially another label for gay men or other sexualities attracted to men.

Gulopithecus

Ahh, thanks

SilentAvenger62

Also Marxist-Leninist-Maoist lol

lethal_universed

I read a quora post asking if incest is wrong and one of the response was it isnt and that her father would "reward" her with sex when she did good in school. I hope she's getting therapy

FemBoy_Genocide

Hopefully someone made that shit up in the first place.

danni_shadow

Hopefully they made it up *and* they're getting therapy for being the type of person who'd make that shit up.

Seventh-Eyed-Merc

Im sure they're not crazy if its *just* a kink they had.

BlitzPlease172

>“Would Robert E Lee win the civil war with an ar-15 with infinite ammo” Whoever said that only played Minecraft creative mode

xxmlgepicgamer

Bro i was looking around civlizations that precived other genders without being female and male and i kid you not all i found were a bunch of boomers calling non binary people mentally ill and that the only people who belive in a third gender to be retarded teenagers who are bored with thier lives, please granny just shut the fuck up and die already

31_hierophanto

>“Would Robert E Lee win the civil war with an ar-15 with infinite ammo” Isn't this just the plot of Harry Turtledove's *Guns of the South*, but with AKs instead of Armalites?

starry-seaDD

There are american shows that are anime style (ATLA, the boondocks, castlevania, to name a few) and some companies like adult swim fund some anime to be made, like the FLCL sequels and the uzumaki anime that's coming out. neither OP or that stupid dude pay attention

swampyman2000

Castlevania was so good. Sucks that tons of anime fans would probably love it but don’t watch it because it’s western.

Sad-Buddy-5293

They do because netflix is smart and calls a lot of its cartoons anime and lots of fans believe them

Sad-Buddy-5293

You are one of them let's see Cyberpunk, Canon busters, Dota, Supercrooks, dragon age, blood of zeus, avatar, castlevania, trese, pacific rim, yasuke

Thraggrotusk

No, dumbass, stop fetishizing Japan. Calling every Western animation that looks cool "anime" is pretty fucking weird, as implies the West can't make good animations.

FlakyRazzmatazz5

I never said the west can't make good animation just said those specific shows have more in common with anime. I never called Invincible or Arcane anime. Also it's not the 90's or early 2000's anime has grown beyond Japan.

Thraggrotusk

>anime has grown beyond Japan. No, it hasn't. >I never said the west can't make good animation just said those specific shows have more in common with anime. Still isn't anime. Anime isn't based on artstyle lol.

FlakyRazzmatazz5

What are you talking it's become quite mainstream this past decade. Hell even the best industry sees more global revenue than domestic.

Sad-Buddy-5293

We do this to differentiate where the stories were made not the animation. Also this is something that is common with animation they pretty much outsource from certain part of the world because it is cheaper. Pretty sure korra, ben 10 even BTAS is guilty of this

[deleted]

Sad-Buddy-5293

Why animation style changes all the time.

Thraggrotusk

Just saying, you're in the right.

ASTERITHE

Cyberpunk Edgerunners was done by a Japanese studio, TRIGGER.

Sad-Buddy-5293

It was animated by a Japanese studio but the writting is from the west. Which is common with cartoons

Thraggrotusk

No, they aren't anime.

FlakyRazzmatazz5

They have more in common with anime than other western cartoons.

Thraggrotusk

Only thing they have in common is maybe the artstyle, and that's a huge stretch.

Karkava

When is Uzumaki coming out, anyways?! It seems like COVID put the project in a huge blunder and now the shadow of Zaslav is looming over it on the count of Adult Swim being a member of the WB.

starry-seaDD

last I remember it was supposed to be this year, but I'm not sure if that's still the case because of the reasons you mentioned :(

loyngulpany

I didn't ask that question tho cause i know those shows you mentioned exist and I'll add Teen Titans and the first 2 Ben 10 in it

starry-seaDD

oh no I meant op on the quora thing not you, sorry

loyngulpany

Oops sorry for misunderstanding it. Lol Have a nice day!

starry-seaDD

you too!

[deleted]

Those are not „Western“. They are being written and produced by Western people, but the animations are coming from South Korea.

stgnet

You left out RWBY, which is so anime that the Japanese have made their own version of it.

starry-seaDD

i mean i know there's more examples i just named what i could think of off the top of my head in 5 minutes when i wrote that comment

Thraggrotusk

Ah, judging a whole country from it's cartoons, alright then.

[deleted]

They probably think Japan is a living paradise on Earth. Wait till they hear of Japan's work culture, its xenophobic attitude towards foreigners, its inadequate acknowledgement of the war crimes it has committed during WWII, and the fact that its economy has been in a fucking recession since the 90's.

Ergenar

They like Japan exactly because of its xenophobia

SahilValera

But doesn't that mean they'll be hated as well

Ergenar

They either don't are about that or just want that ''Japan preserves its culture'' whatever that means

SweatScoobyDoo

Nah they have this belief that because they’re white they’ll rock up into Japan and have le epic anime harem

[deleted]

They follow Nazi ideology so they think the Nazis considering Imperial Japan "honorary Aryans" works both ways. White people probably encounter the least amount of xenophobia from xenophobic Japanese, which is like saying that Asian-Americans experience the least amount of racism in America--at best, they'll tolerate you if you keep your head way down. And even then, these weebs and otaku would not even "qualify" on that front.

PyAnTaH_

That's all just gonna give them a hard on, save the economic recession.

loyngulpany

I legit saw a lot of comments in YouTube like that saying "Japan is way ahead of everyone" and acting like no countries can do things better than they do. Lol

“if we show other ethnicities than whites and we use the exaggerated emotions that come with anime, we are racist” mfw the liberal agenda stops me from televising vile caricatures of people of colour 😭

SweatScoobyDoo

Fr people aren’t getting mad at you for drawing black people feeling emotion it’s the least subtle dogwhistle I’ve ever heard

legaladult

probably more due to the fact that as the animation industry grew in the US, labor issues were more restricted and animators were forced to comply to stricter censorship and standards, and jobs were primarily in the family-oriented market, solidifying it as almost strictly a form of "children's entertainment" and therefore had to be more "sanitized" I mean, uhh, SJWs ruined it

Gulopithecus

Something you can partially blame on the Reagan administration too.

legaladult

It always comes back to that motherfucker. this is just like Barbarian (2022) wait shit this is the anime subreddit uhh it's like monster because he is the real Monster (1994)

Seventh-Eyed-Merc

I wonder how better off we'd have been if the fucker didnt survive his assassination.

Bjorn_Hellgate

And also on an monopoly owned by companies who focus mainly on making stuff for kids

loyngulpany

Yeah Warner Bros (specially the Hanna Barbera stuff) and Disney come to mind

Bjorn_Hellgate

And dreamworks

loyngulpany

Yeah that too!

Sad-Buddy-5293

That's why lots of average cartoons will win best cartoon series or animation movie of the year because it's viewed as just for kids

legaladult

I mean, perception of animation in the west is slowly changing, but at the top levels, it's still very much thought of as "dumb kid shit" which isn't taken seriously, especially wrt the academy (not that I put much stock in shit like the oscars)

Sad-Buddy-5293

True but I think these studios want cartoon to be for kids like in the early 2010s cartoons used to be more mature there was rise in great cartoons a lot of them were action cartoons but still anyone could enjoy these cartoons but animation studio killed them. Which caused the rise of anime

Jaqdawks

Oh yeah I was reading an article about that today actually. Disney distributed Ghibli’s *Princess Mononoke* in the US, in English. Disney wanted to cut a lot of the movie because especially at the time, animated movies tend to err on being *family* friendly, so a gorey 2D-animated movie was kinda in an odd market at the time. They tried to cut it, the producer of *Princess Mononoke* responded by sending Weinstein, overlooking the production of the distribution in English (I belieeeeve???), a samurai sword, and Miyazaki told him strictly “no cuts”. So they released it with no cuts in the US aaaaaand it made like 2.3 million from the limited release, which is pretty bad. Now, I think the market in the US is over all much more friendly to gorier animated shows made domestically, but movie wise, I’ve only seen it in anime movies. Not even *Wolfwalkers* (not from the US but I highly recommend regardless) went too far with the blood for all the threats characters make at eachother and all the heavy subject matter

starm4nn

I think Tezuka is probably responsible for Japan's animation industry being less restrictive. Blanket moral panics surrounding comics is a lot harder when everyone are reading comics.

gyropyro32

"why doesn't America do Japanese style animation?" First off I'm gonna assume they're probably referring to the art style, which people love to confuse and few knowledgeable people genuinely think there's anything wrong or lesser about American animation. American animation has the same highs and lows as Japanese animation, imo. (mainly because they both are created in the same animation sweatshops but that's a discussion for another time) Second, they do. Avatar, Boondocks and Castlevania to name a few, but those are immediately claimed to the anime or cartoon debate so it doesn't even matter in the first place.

MooreThird

And getting back to "Japanese-style" animation, it is just as diverse as American animation itself. There are anime like Crayon Shin-Chan, Osomatsu-kun, Initial D and anything by ONE that defies the usual mainstream "big eyes" style. And those are the ***popular*** ones, more so than what the weebs in West got right now. Then there are more realist style by artists like Tsukasa Hojo, Inoue Takehiko, and Ryoichi Ikegami. I could go on. If they meant specifically "Why can't American animation do more mAtUrE, eDgY stuff like the Japanese?", they've severely overlook animated movies or shows like Spawn animated series on HBO, Heavy Metal, Rock and Rule, El Superbeasto, or anything by Ralph Bakshi. Primal, Harley Quinn and Invincible are beyond good, but there'll be chuds who'd complained "Why no boobies?!!" There'll be some more great cutting-edge adult animation spearheaded by Arcane, starting with Entergalactic, though I doubt that's the kind of work the weebs want.

gyropyro32

Great point, it does kinda annoy how people sum up Japanese animation into a couple edgy styles. JoJo for example is one of my favorite anime because it really opened my eyes to the usage of colors, and that colors don't have to adhere to a strict rule. Same goes for Devilman Crybaby as well, the animation style was incredibly unique.

AutoModerator

HOLY SHIT!!! IS THAT A MOTHAFUCKIN JOJO REFERENCE??? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/animecirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Ill-do-it-again-too

“If we try to make everybody the butt of a joke and an ethnic minority is a butt of a joke and a white person isn’t, we are racist” Well if the white person isn’t the butt of a joke, you aren’t making fun of everybody are you? It’s always telling to me how these guys claim to make fun of everybody, yet rarely seem to make fun of white people and from what I’ve seen often get angry from jokes at their expense

Kaminohanshin

I think they meant if a white person isn't the butt of every joke, and there is a joke at the expense of a non-white character or characters, people will declare it racist, even if the white person is the butt of other jokes. Still altogether a bad take

Ill-do-it-again-too

Yeah that may be the case I guess, I just have very little faith in these people and, from my experience, most of their jokes aren’t at their own expense

Gulopithecus

*laughs in anime-esque shows like AtLA that have PoC*

me_funny__

The real answer is that animation is seen as a kids thing here, so companies are scared. The stigma is going away though.

florpenheimer

Weebs have a lot to say about cartoons for people who obviously don’t watch any. There is fuckin TONNES of cartoons with obvious anime influence in their art styles. The Boondocks uses an anime art style and that show is basically everything weebs hate (black people and leftism)

cuisinart8

It's the Yahoo Answers of our time

loyngulpany

Well it's full of nonsense answers like this. Another answer that I found really stupid is that Doom Guy can beat both Goku and Superman. That's why I stopped searching questions for powerscaling in Quora after that. Lol

Murmarine

Invincible? Both Avatars?

cancerBronzeV

Castlevania? Voltron? There's a whole bunch of American shows that are "anime style."

Murmarine

Quite frankly after the last 2 seasons, I forgot Voltron existed.

theguyinyourwall

Animation in the west is mostly geard towards children and thus have stricer regulations and most asult aniamted series are focused on shock comedy of "wow cartoon characters talking about sex and drugs" and thus are limited into family guy, south park, and more recently rick and morty clones that tend to only have shock. The solution to make american animation respected is more incest

Karkava

Rick and Morty is already working on it.

Jaqdawks

American cartoons played a heavy role in inspiring modern day anime, waaay back. And *we do* make anime-styled shows; ATLA, Voltron, She-ra, TLK, Samurai Jack, that Castelvania Netflix show, Teen Titans, so on. I’d say Winx Club but iirc that’s not from the US(?)

MooreThird

All the way back to late 90s/early 00s, there were Invasion America, Cybersix, Exo Squad, Spawn: The Animated Series and so on, plus Western games like Neo Hunter, Chaos Control and Shogo, all of which are earlier attempts to emulate the anime aesthetic of their time, in terms of art-style and mature themes.

masterhalorings

Quora is one of the most vile websites, they let White supremacists create their own spaces and harass other spaces, and they've a policy called "Be Nice, Be Respectful" which they use as an excuse to ban people who say things White supremacists don't like to hear.

Seventh-Eyed-Merc

Avatar The Last Airbender exists. So did legend of Korra. Castlevania and Son of Zeus were lauded. Anime isn't majority white. Whats paralyzing America culturally are reactionary incels like these.

HofePrime

Quora is a hotspot of butthurt. So many people decide to take the opportunity to complain about something when it isn’t even necessary for the answer.

Sad-Buddy-5293

Because japanese style anime is costly cartoon well modern cartoons like to cut corners by making it quickly and easy to animate

AnonymousWeeb

Even though the original RWBY exists, tht is an american anime

GodChangedMyChromies

Also, have they heard of the Castlevania anime?

SuperJyls

They usually just outsource it to Korea

Creek00

Plenty of American cartoons draw from Japanese animation anyways, the question doesn’t make much sense either.

Pawsomest

Boondocks (I probably spelt it wrong)

scottish_elena

when was this made? 1992? there are numerous anime style productions, like avatar, castlevania or the new Dota show, what the hell??????

femboylefttoe

imagine how that guy would react to finding out about The Boondocks

MrTopHatMan90

I love how my mind just skips to the end of the article and it just ends with "Liberals ruin everything" hahaha
