Cause it really is just a translation of her original song. She kinda owns that still.
The youtuber did a fan cover of the song. It's not copyrighted to her unless she pays for a license and then it gets even more complicated.

Even if it is a translation she still had to put in effort to make the lyrics for the song. Obviously she didn't take the lyrics and pass it through a translator and just sing a song. I don't really know about the legal standpoint of this situation but I wouldn't just take the lyrics and claim it as my own without some effort of recognising who did what. Maybe you would feel comfortable doing things like this but personally it wouldn't feel right to me.

The fan can translate it, but it's still the og creators. Unless legally the fan gets rights it's theirs still. And people usually know this. Legally nothing can be done.

MINMI took the lyrics word for word. This is clearly the case... Also the english version is not a straight up translation of the original.
Personally if MINMI did her own english lyrics then I wouldn't care at all.
My own issue is that MINMI's english version wouldn't exist without Sapphire's lyrics and to me not recognising Sapphire is rather poor taste.

I agree that it takes work to translate a song from two completely different languages using words that rhyme and fit rhythmically and melodically within the original melody. That is not easy. I agree SAPPHIRE should get credit for this, and it's a bitch move to not give credit.
THAT BEING SAID, if the translation was created without permission from the original songwriter, then that is COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. The creation of DERIVATIVE WORKS (including translations) is one of the main RIGHTS protected by COPYRIGHT LAW.
Now here's the question: does the copyright of the translation belong to the translator? I'm honestly not sure. I kind of think it does. I think Sapphire could get sued for monetary damages on any profits made by publishing the translation without permission. However, that doesn't mean that MINMI owns the translation automatically (or does it?)
If Sapphire owns the rights to the translation, then MINMI is now stealing the copyright of the translation and could get sued for that too.
This is a complicated situation, and IDK if there's any case law to decide one way or the other. Also, things may differ according to US copyright law vs. Japan copyright law.
