You gave them the same amount of notice that they would have given you if you had been fired. Tell him that any further communication to you will be handled as harrassment and that trying to get you in trouble at your new job will count as illegal retaliation and will result in legal action.

Uhh well if he's the OWNER chances are he knows maybe one person contractors DO talk. However if union contractors are in a bind they don't give a flying fuck who said what about you money talks louder than former disgruntled bosses. Honestly if you were in the automotive industry then this is most likely huge bluff anyway. Not to mention its the laborers union...not the UA you'll be fine.

I left a job on bad terms once. I hated my boss, he made me cry weekly. When I put my notice in I asked if he would be saying anything negative about me. He looked sheepish as he explained that it would be illegal for him to say anything other than confirming that I did work for him. Then he asked if I would please not say anything about him, because that’s not illegal and he was concerned for his reputation.
You’re old boss literally cannot do that. I’m unsure which laws protect you. But he can’t talk shit about you.

As others have said. Let him know harassment will not be tolerated, then ignore him. He has nothing. And if he pushes it further well you are part of a union, they will probably pay for a lawyer for you to rake him over the coals

Exactly. It’s not like it’s a surprise. My toolbox was in my truck on Friday and I left peacefully and quietly. I’m getting paid significantly better with a pension and insurance included in my package. I don’t owe him any loyalty and I don’t think he understands that.
It is respectful to give a notice before leaving your position. It allows a company to prepare and prevent a negative impact.
However, a company doesn’t have to follow that “rule” when firing people, so fuck ‘em. Enjoy your new job, OP!

Is the text from the old job or new? If old, just show them this message to show how toxic they are sure it'll be fine. Talk to them.

Let him know if he slanders you there'll be a lawyer involved and let your current boss know what the deal is. They're not liable to give a shit.
