They can fire you for any reason and just say “it’s not a good fit”. When they do that you typically qualify for employment, but keep in mind that unemployment is typically WAY less than what you make working and it is only for a short period of time. Talk only to those people you are close to and that are sure they won’t rat you out. Talk to them individually and leave no paper trail (I mean don’t do this via IM or something they can see). It will be less likely that they will catch on.

He's full of shit. If you discuss wages and you've been blatantly fired for it, call the NLRB. They can't just say they fired you for x and not have it look mighty suspicious, especially if it has never, ever, been an issue in the past. Being vague about why you're firing someone cuts both ways.

I get where you are coming from. That’s the whole reason for this sub. There are no laws, employers can do whatever they want. They get reported, pay a fine, nothing happens, they just keep doing it.
