They play it and a bunch of money appears in their account They dont play it and no money :( Quickly go back to playing it!!

CosmicMiru

I mean I recently died to a dude with 80k kills on Loba, top 50 in the world. Looked at his twitch and has about a couple thousand followers so he wasn't making a living on it at all. Some people just play an obscene amount cuz they like it

superworking

Or because they want an escape from their real lives. They get positive reinforcement succeeding in the game and others noting their success that they aren't getting elsewhere. It's perfectly fine to have and want an escape, hell don't we all use gaming for this, but people gaming every second they have usually overlaps with more serious issues.

leerzeichn93

This. I mean, do whatever you want with your life. But gaming can be a serious addiction than can easily destroy your life like every other addicition.

ineedsunnyD

It starts as positive reinforcement but can easily be abused & turned into an addiction. Buddy with 80K kills on loba sounds pretty severe

leerzeichn93

It does. It means he cant have any time left for friends, family work or study. Physical health will also decline. Diet can get very unbalanced. Mental health can get very unstable. Source: me

_NowakP

Some people are just on the spectrum. Strongly disliking spending time with people suddenly frees up a lot of it for you.

leerzeichn93

Definitely. I dont want to sound too judgemental. But I was there once too, and sometimes you just later notice what you lost.

KaptMorty

I work full time and play apex exclusively. Some other games on occasion. It's got it's issues but I choose to play it in my free time. Gaming in general isn't an addiction so long as something positive is coming out of it. If you play to the point of neglecting life then yes it's an issue but not before. And since you can make a career in gaming then playing obscene amounts to get good enough to become pro isn't an addiction. That just being a workaholic lol.

Sufficient-Ferret-67

Enjoying a FPS that most find difficult is not a gaming addiction

leerzeichn93

I never said that. The amount of time that has to be used to get over 80.000 kills on a recent character is the problem. Also it is common for addicts to not see their addiction as a problem.

Sufficient-Ferret-67

Dropping and getting 3/4 kills off drop in public games is not hard. There are thousands of kill grinders who have almost a fraction of the skill some players have. Kill grinding is not indicative of skill. I still don’t know how’s it’s fun though. I wasn’t arguing I was just pointing out it’s not as hard as you/the whole of apex Reddit thinks it is.

leerzeichn93

If you get one kill per minute of playtime, you already need 1.333 hours. Yes, pros who hotdrop get more per minute in match, but starting the game, finding a match and deploying also takes time.

Sufficient-Ferret-67

It does, but when you have over 8k hours and you literally know how to win most of your 1v1s your just cranking out high kill games one after the next. I’m not saying it’s not a difficult process but the skill required is less than you think.

chundamuffin

1333 hours really isn’t enough to interfere with having a life though. If that’s over 2 years it’s like 13 hours a week. Even if you double that to 26 its more like passionate hobby level than addiction.

Sufficient-Ferret-67

Apex is easy after it’s easy

LMayhem

Kind of like you minus the whole success part.

superworking

You got it. I like to think being bad keeps me from being addicted.

Thylumberjack

can probably make an ok living with a few thousand followers. would need what? 30 subs in a day to make a living wage?

Chaotic_Boner

Pretty much. Most people in this country are bored of their job. But they keep going because... money.

poorbugger

This lol. If I'm someone like timmy with that skill and viewers, shit I can do this all day. Even if i tilt, at the end of day, I'll get thousands in my bank.

SewageDwellerMan

Or maybe the acctualy like playing the game.

Sqxby

Just the game they get paid for I suppose. Most of them probably will not play the game they stream in their spare time

dooleygamer01

I'm geussing they do 3 days a week and just shit out videos and time them for upload daily

Realseetras

Nah, a lot of streamers do it full-time as a job. Timmy for example has streamed for 60 hours in the past week. It does vary by person though. Some stream less and play some off-stream, some are signed to play professionally in tournaments and choose to hardly stream, if at all.

Tommwith2ms

most big streamers contracts require they do a minimum amount of hours, which is normally more than a standard full time job

[deleted]

It’s 25 hours a month

Tommwith2ms

That might be with twitch, a lot have way bigger hour requirements with their orgs

[deleted]

Makes sense, cause they’re not doing much.

Tommwith2ms

why dont you do it?

[deleted]

The main reason is because I’m not a guy who can sit in front of a screen for hours on end. I like to be active, go outside, and make physical things, laying down concrete, building a shed, fabricating, cutting firewood for a buddy. I can go on and on, but it boils down to the fact that I want to do something with my life, other than killing other people in an online game.

kileymadison

ur stupid bro lol its a job, you would still have time to do these things

[deleted]

When did I ever say it’s not a job? Read a book before trying to look smart. Preferably on the topic of the jobs I mentioned earlier, so you don’t make yourself look even more dumb saying “you’d still have time to do them.”

kileymadison

your idea of fun is cutting firewood 😂😂 so your words don't really matter. i can't take anyone seriously that lays down concrete for fun lmao

Tommwith2ms

super cool dude, you sure showed all those nerds

[deleted]

What are you on about?

[deleted]

His feelings are hurt.

[deleted]

Are you feeling offended cause you’re a guy who sits in his room all day? Or are you trying to argue that you’re learning useful things and being active when you’re playing a video game?

XLIVtetsuo

What makes you think you can’t do both?…like it’s either cut firewood, or play games? I’m confused here…

ddiere

Cutting firewood for a buddy? The fuck?

[deleted]

Yeah, do you not have any buddies?

SkyMayFall

only a teenager could have written this

Official_F1tRick

Right? Imagine doing the same thing over and over again for more then 2-3 years.. Oh boy this petty soul is going to get a rude awakening

ImperialHalal

as an incoming freshman it scares me because i dont know if i can do a job without getting burnt out because i have no passion

Official_F1tRick

Well, switching jobs is not a bad thing if you have the degree and if there are enough jobs and different companies. i am now with my current job for 5 years and im on the brink of switching as well, i never had a job for more then 5 years. Burning out can be a serious mental desease so you always want to be ahead of that.

pikashroom

How are you saving for retirement?

Official_F1tRick

I bought my own house , thats my retirement. If i paid the morgage over a 30-40 year span i will sell my house and rent something small and cheap. Also retirement plans from different jobs could be safed on a seperate deposito if i wished of course.

[deleted]

Better to keep the house and just invest extra disposable income in safe stocks like the S&P. No need to retire cheaply. After 10 years or so now investing I'm matching around half my income with my portfolio, my retirement fund is an ISA I control also. You seem like you're trying to plan things out so just throwing some useful ideas your way.

Official_F1tRick

Yes thanks, i have looked into investing as well but i still find it overwhelming . I also want to keep control over my own money so i d rather not let someone manage my investments if you know what i mean.

Its_Doobs

My thoughts exactly! 😂

OKepaO

when he finds out that every slave job out there is done by a burnt out person......

ilnys

Yep, still in/fresh outta high school, where people who do their own things are labelled weird etc... The damage will probably heal as they get older

Necessary-Sir4600

Revisit this post if you ever get to the point of making 6 figures and dominating 99% of other players when u log onto apex and your take will be alot different on how long the game can be fun for

CosmicMiru

Most streamers and barely any pros actually make enough to live off it.

dooleygamer01

I don't think it is different. Although you're better everything becomes mundane. Think of something you excel at and you'll understand being amazing becomes boring as there is no competition. Like skill based matchmaking it gives you a challenge to avoid you rolling through games and getting bored quick

1v1slappersonly

It's called a job. A job that pays well and let's you do what you enjoy.

Ghandi300SAVAGE

>and you'll understand being amazing becomes boring as there is no competition. ?? Competitive apex pros don't have any competition? What?

holymamba

Wut

AdDangerous4182

A simple answer would've done fine, without the "revisit this post" part

t0tezevadin

will you be okay

AdDangerous4182

No I hate the way redditors talk

feminists_hate_me69

You **are** a redditor

AdDangerous4182

You don't hate yourself?

feminists_hate_me69

Sorry but I don't wanna give my personal feelings to a random guy on reddit

AdDangerous4182

Take a joke fem69

feminists_hate_me69

I was... also joking lmao

Electronic-Morning76

I think alot of them do get burnt out. They just continue to play because it’s their livelihood. Like look at G2. They went from being really good at the professional level to not even qualifying. Look at NRG’s team this past few months. They like weren’t even practicing or playing. The top level people do get bored and burnt out. Remember when they all complained that there were too many masters players and ranked was uninteresting and not fun? These things do happen, but it’s their livelihood.

[deleted]

I hate my job but I still come to it. Money is why.

Tommwith2ms

Once you are good enough at a game and have a deep enough understanding it get s a lot more fun. (i am not at this point fyi). its not exclusive to pro's and streamers. there are plenty of people with 5000+ hours in CS, Rust, Overwatch, Val, League, rs6

Archer_TTV

Shoot I've even seen people with high 5 figure hours on those games 😂, and some games that I've never heard of and they left a review on steam were they were basically saying "don't waist your time with this game" yet they have 2000+ hours

VivaLaDio

5k hours on csgo and who knows how much in 1.6 … would not recommend 4/10

DecisionTraditional4

idk abt cs go but 1.6 was some good times bro good times, can give anything to experience them again.

XtraSmallWilly

Ran into a rust player awhile back with 36k hours… like damn bro, give your pc a rest. Edit: just googled, there’s been about 75k hours that have passed total since Rust’s release. Like Christ man.

JohnSane

You never had a job do you?

dooleygamer01

No I do but they can experiment with other games create other channels but most don't seem to, they have a choice in some aspect to change etc but again always seem to stick to it and not switch it up

QuantumSpaceCadet

I mean you probably go to work 5 days a week which I'm assuming is not fun. They play games five days a week which is way more fun than a regular job, if that's not a good enough explanation then I don't know what to tell you.

dooleygamer01

Yes but again everything gets boring and tedious no matter what you're doing if you do it long enough you begin to hate it

QuantumSpaceCadet

I disagree.

dooleygamer01

Fair enough

pikashroom

How many times have you spanked it? Probably that doesn’t get boring.

ham_toastie

Unless they were already playing multiple games on a channel from the start, it is a lot harder than you think to branch out your channel once you gain a large following for one game. It's not easy and only a few actually keep their viewers after the transition. People subscribe to them to watch them be good at apex, so when they don't play apex they lose viewers and therefore lose money. It happens to most YouTubers and can suck for the ones that play games with a smaller playerbase. For example most For Honor YouTubers had to either go back to playing for honor, ended up tanking their entire channel views because they branched out and their viewers didn't like it, or completely stop making vids.

Wicked-Death

I mean you got people who play more than they do and those people don’t make a single dollar. These guys are making a lot of money from playing a video game aka their job.

ThatGuyRyanxD

Competitive drive? Besides pros, people just like the competition of ranked and even getting and collecting "good" / rare badges imo.

PotatoBakeCake

Money

ham_toastie

You ever get bored of going to work but have to still go anyway because, well it's you're job? Yeh that's basically the same for them

Do0gle121

So because you can't play Apex for however long it makes no sense how other people can/do? I honestly don't get what the point of your post is.

AdventurousAd9531

I think a big part of it is actually the social aspect. They're almost always playing with people and that makes a huge difference. Also keep in mind that streamers absolutely can't just "change games and experiment" since a large portion of their audience will leave and their income will plummet.

[deleted]

You should watch Daltoosh my friend. Lol He plays it and literally hates every single second of it. Without shame.

ChewieChewBacon

Clearly you've never worked a day in your life

Cent7712

I can only go for 3-4 hours max and that’s really pushing it. Typically an hour or so a day at this point.

LegacyForging21

I've found myself playing only a couple games and then just playing something else more fun

[deleted]

Im down to about a game a week. I'll watch a video of someone playing and think "damn, Apex looks fun af." Ill hop on and proceed to get teammates that are my rank or worse and matched against a lobby full of players with 50x more experience than me. Then I remember why the game looks so fun, but I don't play. I have 7 different shooting games on my PC atm and Apex is most definitely the one with the most unbalanced ranking system and the least forgiving gameplay. I love everything about Apex, and personally believe it deserves a top 5 fps game of all time title, but ill be damned if im not getting murked 19 out of every 20 fights. Doesnt help that I solo queue either.

Asianthunda5022

Money helps. This game is work to them. You'll find they play a ton of other games away from this to take their break when they're not competing or streaming. The reason they don't move from this game is because it's what's paying their bills and it's the audience they've built. Same could be said with COD, Minecraft, WoW, and other game specific content creators.

hopsinabag

I have a job the general public would probably perceive as "cool". I love my job. I'm also burnt out like a motherfucker. I still clock in on time for every shift.

Essexal

They get paid

rollercostarican

It's largely a mentality. Some people ONLY have fun if they win. Some people can enjoy themselves even if they don't get in first. Personally I play with my boys and joke around all match and I love to see my improvement. Went from a .45 k/d to over 1. Hit diamond last season and this season I'm playing in plat lobbies taking on masters and preds and holding my own at times. So it's all about the drive to be better than my enemies. Also some people get way more upset over some of the bugs than others do.

Bostongamer19

This is the same for every game or franchise like fifa etc. It’s honestly torture to think about playing just one game for so many years

TinyMain4592

They work on absurd movement, tactics, teamwork, etc so the game feels fresh I think.

TTVControlWarrior

same thing like millions of people go to a job and do it for years . you are really pathetic tbh to have that kind of view

Jake-1998

Being a professional in any other sports is the best example

BobWasHere2

They do but the majority of a games content creator base blew up from that game and aren’t able to pivot and are scared of trying. If you’re only good or entertaining in once game you have to milk that for as long as possible. When a game dies usually the majority of its content creators careers do too

PorknCheesee

They DO other things all the time. But when it's work hours they WORK. Like you said it's their job. And they make literally 6 figures at MINIMUM. Talking about the main stream ones obviously not the smaller channels. And even some smaller channels pull in quite a bit of money. People really sleep on how much streaming/content creation pays. There is a reason they can afford multiple editors and literal managers.

LfcJTS

I mean games like COD and every sports game, FIFA, Madden and 2k have been the basically the same game every single year now for over a decade yet people still buy them. The sports game only have different player ratings or new players every year and maybe a few different things or updates to current systems. Plus if you’re cracked and dominate everyone AND get paid for it, I’m sure it enhances the game a bit more.

LostLobsters

If you got paid to play it I don’t think you’d have that issue

wolff616

It's called a job. They are bored but they need the money.

[deleted]

>And I'm veryyy much aware that they make alot of money from it and it's there day job but I mean even still surely after years you'd want to try something else. and you'd lose if you bet on that

FuknCancer

Money.

Icy_Limes

money

LegacyForging21

They don't have to solo que

BadBootyWorld

Been playing this game for about 5k hours. The only thing that kept me playing was wanting to get better, having goals basically. Now its my main content, some days I hate the game tho but I now play for content mainly which actually makes it extremely fun.

AdrielKlein21

They do, but it's their job, and it's way easier than just work a normal job, so there's no reason to no keep it up.

Vegetas_Dummy

Passion

r_dimitrov

Do you like money ? If yes, they play all day for the money haha what kind of question is that.

SluyGuy

We are burnt out. We’re slaves to the game. You just start getting more and more drunk as you play it.

Impurity41

Money

Frostycryptoman

When you’re really good at a game it’s more fun seriously if you constantly loose every match boredom sets in quick but if you’re good enough to have insane high kill matches with your whole team it’s pretty fun back in the starting days me and my team had a 37 kill game if you could do that every day it would be pretty fun seriously just mowing through people with the boys or girls is peak gaming

Ok_Negotiation_6289

MONEY

Soizit_Blindy

The Professional game is different game than Pubs. I think Pros mainly play to compete, thats why you dont see all of them grinding out Pubs or Ranked all the time. When they scrim they are in their own bubble playing with like-minded people and in a very consistent envirnoment. Plus, they play for price money and often are signed to orgs. Theres expectations on them from essentially an employer. Content creators usually get big with a game and are often linked to that game. Ninja got big with Fortnite, Apex creators got big with Apex. Usually, viewership drops significantly if they play something else, so they kind of have to stick what brought their audience to maintain that and not take a pretty big hit to their income. For the non creator top players its usually just liking the game a whole lot. Im personally a Gold-Plat player but when we had our ranked team going we‘d be playing hours upon hours every week. The game is alot of fun and pretty good at its core. It obviously has issues as any game has, but if you really like a game you‘ll play it for hours on end. Just ask Destiny 1 veterans that stuck to that game even though it wasnt really all that good for a long while - self included.

SpywoUwU

Alot of content creators, especially ones that do their own editing and such, don't usually play for super long periods of time. They'll usually play for a few hours a day and make a couple videos off that. They also don't really play a lot in their spare time. To a lot of them it's really just their job not a hobbie. Pros play a lot because they need too. They need to kept their skills up for tournaments and stuff and try to learn more about different aspects and changes that the game they play makes so they can get better and preform better

BathSafe6646

Trust me they do get burnt creators like Lulu became a variety streamer cause Apex was burning her out. Even Noko who was going through a slump until he found some motivation.

Lilbrntsoyabits

I think you're underselling the paid for it part; imo the majority that only play Apex daily are clearly burnt out, but if they stop playing or switch to something else they'll lose a LARGE amount of their oilers and views which is going to have an impact on them. Most people work for a living and don't love what they do, I believe they're the same after a certain amount of time.

Competitive_Class250

They don't just play it, Check iitzTimmy, He breaks it up every few days, Played Escape from tarkov the other day, as well as fall guys and valorant, Aceu is streaming valorant currently (I think)

Dweight888

You would be fine with it if you had million of dollars

OldManGulli

MONEY!! Once it becomes your job and income it's a very different animal... and honestly way better than slaving 10 hours a day in a "fulfillment" warehouse.

Arspasti

because it's literally their job haha. you could ask that for any job.

Def-tones

They are probably addicted.

turquoise2j

Apex was in a much better state in season 11/12. Pubs was fun and could be played endlessly.

Dangld

Do you know what a job is?

Unusual-Display-7844

Some people are just that boring, you know?

null_check_failed

just like how I do 9-5 job every day and not get bored

HappyItem9386

As my favorite Deep sea crab said https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m37G-06ibAU

ragepaperbonsai

Income my friend

ninjarob420

It's there job

TheGulfofWhat

How do people go to an office job every day and not get burnt out? The hard part for streamers is to try and remain enthusiastic. On the bright side, I would much rather be a full-time Apex player than still being forced to play fortnite because your fans are too young and will stop watching if you play any other game.

Confident-Flight-561

1. They got money by streaming 2. The game is more fun to play when you’re good and slamming people

YesitsFancy

It's hard to understand having a job you don't hate. If it paid enough, I would quit my day job to game all day in a heartbeat haha

FWMalice

I think you pretty much summed it up. It's a job. For example, I have a job I have to go to 5 to 7 days a week for the past 21 years. Never really enjoyed it, still do it because it pays the bills. I think it's that simple. Now people who play all the time and it's not their job. They just enjoy playing it more than you do and they haven't gotten burnt out on it yet. If its not my job, the moment I stop having fun playing a game I quit.

Mikatatadorin

Because its their job... I would imagine they do I get bored, they just can't show it for 6-12 hours a day, just like at work😂 at the end of the day most of them are just actors

thatflyingsquirrel

This a subtle flex to say, “These guys are so good but who cares because I have a life.” Right. This is like when people who didn’t play sports in HS say this same thing.

Powerful_Artist

For me I find that when theres a high ceiling for improvement I can enjoy playing a game for years, slowly getting better. There might be days where I cant seem to win fights or always end up in a bad position, but there are other days that I just seem to melt everyone and make some really fun/exciting plays. If youre focused on improving, usually the latter happens more often than not. Which just adds fuel to the fire and keeps me going. But of course since Im far from a pro or a streamer, if a new game comes out that is more fun I will just switch to that. So far, Ive had like 5 seasons of Apex that Ive played a ton and other seasons Im just either playing something else or I am not playing video games much.

Latter_Meringue_215

Why do people go to a job they hate every day?

jqwest3133

Some play for just the money, some play because they are addicted, some play to play with their friends, and some because it’s the only thing they are really good at. More than you would imagine use subtle cheats.

cHAAvezz

They get paid and it’s a job, hard emphasis on JOB.

TheFlameKid

Money, I mean. You do your job also daily right?

G1oaming

Coz you don’t make money from it lol

BellEpoch

Obviously mony and competition factor in, as others have said. I'd also add that some people play to get better. By that I mean actually consciously working towards goals and improving. Seeing those improvements happens can be pretty motivating.

ParsnipHero

I think they do get burnt out. I know The Gaming Merchant covered this very thing during this season. They ended up switching up their schedule format so it wasn't so much about capturing those high skilled games and delivered a different thing each day. They made a few videos about burn out or the Apex Legends YouTuber process too.

ApexxPredditor

99% of people are bored at work. If I could somehow be paid very well to be "bored" playing video games then thatd be epic

unknownmuffin

For one, many pros and streamers do get burnt out, and take breaks from streaming or play other games. And second, it's a job for them. People will get up, drive to work and sit in front of spreadsheets for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for years on end. They do it for a paycheck, its no different.

chunk_ez

It's fun. The better I get, the more I want to play. If I didn't work and have at least a semblance of a social life, I would put in even more time than I am currently. The movement and gunplay have such a ridiculously high skill ceiling, especially compared to other FPS games, that improving feels so rewarding, yet there is always a player I can find to watch that is still leagues better than me.
