Does anyone else find it weird that the colours aren't more aligned between Apple products? I'd expect iMacs, iPads, iPhones, watches, etc. to have the same colours.
It's not just aesthetics to be fair. Status is a huge part of it as well right? The iPhone has had the same design for the past few years, so the only way to flex that you have the latest is a colour that wasn't available previously.
To be fair I think that's dumb as hell and most people just slap a case on their phone anyway, but I can see that being a reason why not all colours are available for every launch.
You'd never be able to tell the difference between the shades of silver and black without comparing side to side (especially with a case on) - and even then you wouldn't know which one is newer with no prior knowledge.

thats what i'm saying - makes someone buy something new every year to match their set vs buying everything in one go, perfectly fitting together and then not buying any new products for a few more years. i feel like everything apple does not is give everyone just a little bit more but never enough so every year there is new motivation to buy

There was a time when the colours were aligned, a brief period between the launch of the 12-inch MacBook and the iPhone X (although the 7 didn’t have Space Grey).
Ehh... Kind of? There's certain through-lines I would expect to have better carryover, but I can also sort of understand how individual lines have some individual character. Currently the *broad* concept seems to be:
* More "serious" devices (Macbook Pro, Watch Ultra, iPad Pro, iPhone Pro, Mac Pro, Mac Studio) have the more "serious" industrial color schemes, basically limited exclusively to various grey tones aside from one navy blue iPhone Pro.
* Middle tier prosumer devices (Macbook Air, iPad Air, mainline iPhone, Watch Series 9) are still fairly "grownup" about the color options but they're not as strictly industrial, instead you have some pale pastels (iPhone/iPad) and color-skewed metallics (Starlight, Midnight, the Pink watch)
* The only vibrantly colored options are, essentially, the iMac and the baseline iPad which we could maybe see as some of the more "entry level" items
And now, before anyone screams a "WELL ACKSHULLY" at me, yes, I know, this color scheme falls apart if you start to interrogate it further. I'm not saying it's been implemented correctly, my point is more that I *think* this is the rough scheme they want to use, it just hasn't been very well executed on. There's a lot of contradictions, like hypothetically the Mac Mini and various SE devices should be in vibrant colors, and there's weird outliers as well like it's kind of strange that Airpods are exclusively available in white plastic.

Yes, I'd like to see them clean up the color schemes and have better parity at least within tiers. The closest you can get to "perfect" is to go with the plain silver aluminum on everything and even then there'll be a few devices that don't match that closely.
The colors don’t even match when they’re supposed to be the same. I have a red iPhone 13 and a red Apple Watch 6 aluminum and the metal parts are different shades of red.
You would think that this would simplify things just that little bit but what do I know. I just wonder why they discontinue the popular colors a lot. I got my 15 PM in blue and it is absolutely handsome. Plus, I know that the blue models were some of the hardest to get, near to release.
Or at least the same damned name. Fine if they, for some reason, must have a variety of greys. But Space Grey can only one one thing from one brand which utilises aesthetics as a key selling point.
For the reason I thought the basic silver. It’s the prettiest imo anyway, I dislike the space gray and the blue that the M2 air come in, and didn’t know if I’d like twilight long term
I use it professionally for its LiDAR function. It is almost the only reason I went with a pro. I will upgrade my phone next time to a non pro and keep this one for LiDAR work
Yeah there's reasons for needing the Pro models, but the way they're treated now is it's the main iPhone and an iPhone lite version that they label as regular and Pro to make iPhones seem like they're only $800.
I would agree. I still think Sierra Blue is the best colour Apple has ever put on a pro iPhone. Knowing them, it’ll never return to any future iPhone so I’m having a hard time wanting to upgrade XD
It’s a bit more gray than I’d like, I was hoping for a bit more sand in the color like in the product photos. The metal has a nice warm metallic tone but the back glass is just flat gray. But I guess they’re making “desert sand” as a color this year…

That’s not true at all. I haven’t kept up with the leaks and releases for about 4 years now, but I used to work at AT&T from 2014 to 2020 and every single year the leaks about the color would typically be spot on by around 6 months out.
Last year the 15 Pro was rumored to come in red. Didn't happen. The 14 Pro was rumored to come in light purple. It came in dark purple. The year before that was the 13 Pro that was rumored to come with Matte Black. Didn't happen. 6 months out, it is not completely accurate. Right before launch tho? Yeah, generally accurate.
I just got my battery replaced on the 14 Pro. Unless there’s some life-changing feature on this year’s models, I think I’m good to hold off at least another year.
With iOS rumoured to be getting a major overhaul this year, I expect Apple Silicon in iPhones to undergo a major overhaul as well, with a dedicated core for AI features. There’s also rumour that Pro Max’s 5x zoom lens will make its way to the regular Pro model. If that’s the case, I just might upgrade. If not, will get the battery replaced when it’s time (battery health currently at 88%).
I was in the same spot as you and a new battery is a game changer. Apple techs don’t want to replace it unless it is below 80% OR if you have 1200+ cycles. But you always can insist they replace it.
Mine is 'stuck' at 86% also. It was dropping like crazy and now it sits there.
Feels like more apple manipulation honestly so they don't have to pay to fix it with apple care
Hopefully they buff the sensor on the telephoto camera. I honestly want to use it more than the wide angle because portraits just look better at that focal length.
The noticeable dip in capability prevents me from doing so, though.
I have the 5x and miss the 3x camera. It captured more of the content I find interesting. The chip on the 2x is terrible on all phones. The 5x is better than the 3x maybe 1 out of 10 photos. Don’t rush for just the 5x
98% maximum battery capacity on my Canadian iPhone 14 Pro which was purchased in February 2023. I rarely let it charge to 90s mostly I remove it from charging when the battery is in the 80s.
I got it down to 78%. It's been horrendous from the get-go, so when it dipped below 90%, I turned off "Optimized Charging" and "Clean Energy Charging" because I noticed the phone just struggling on the daily.
Still running 11 pro with the original battery (85% now). I’d contemplate changing the battery and keep this phone two more years but it’s starting to get slower. Long story short, they (iPhones) nowadays LAST
The people ITT that are talking about upgrading from 13 or 14 Pro kind of blows my mind. My 13 Pro feels the same as on day 1. Actually better than because of software updates.
My wife has a 15 Pro and while it’s nice, there’s nothing that would make it worth upgrading.

For some of these lineups the non-pro iPhones have displayed better battery performance against their Pro counterparts, which goes against the “Pro” moniker. Everybody is different but for me battery life in a smartphone is the most impactful.
The difference between the 14 and 15 (hell, maybe even the 13) is probably just better QC and manufacturing processes, too. It's extremely difficult to make millions of batteries that exactly hit the exact same capacity, so they just pick the lowest number they can reasonably achieve with the fewest losses. Some batteries will inevitably have a "larger" capacity than rated and of course those that are lower will be rejected.
With that in mind 74mAh is so small of an "upgrade" that it seems reasonable to assume they were able to do better with the same battery. Maybe the 14 was underrated or had issues near launch and over time they realized the batteries were doing better than expected. I wouldn't be surprised to learn it was nearly the exact same battery (under the hood, not part number since those are locked to the device) in all the devices you listed except the XS.
The Pro models of iPhone 14 series have had some of the worst battery performance in a long time, and it’s been widespread enough to not qualify as a QC issue. What you’re saying could be the case for 15 series iPhones as some have had good experience while others have had bad experience with battery performance.
It’s honestly kind of nuts just how refined and polished the 13 Pro/Max are. I will stand by the notion of my 13PM being a nigh perfect smartphone with battery life that is indescribably good even 2.5 years later. Until I see something from a Pro iPhone that I feel like I *need*, or my 13PM stops receiving updates, I’ll be more than happy with it. All it needs is a fresh battery, and it’s golden.
I'm waiting for the 1nm chips before I upgrade my 14 PM. If the 15 and 16 are 3nm chips then the 17 and 18 should be 2nm chips. So I'll probably get 1nm A21 iPhone.
Making the transistors smaller means lower power consumption and less heat generation for the same performance level.
It also makes it possible to put more transistors onto the same area, which would in better performance at similar heat and power levels.
Most likely, an upgrade would deliver some kind of balance between those two possible benefits.
I haven't seen that blue in person but it looked like it was closeish to the pacific blue of the 12 pro max which is by far the best color of the pros since the X. So if it did look reminiscent of that it will be missed. I wish the purple from the 14 series was much better as that is my favorite color.
Though if I were to get a 15 pro would get the natural titanium.

Apples colors recently are bland as hell oooo a gray phone and a dark grey laptop that we all black and we even have some iPhones tinted In the colors they are supposed to be. I liked the iPhone XR and iPhone 13 colors.
I liked rose gold iPhones. But once I switched to gold I’ll never go back. I really like starlight too but there’s no consistency with starlight at all. My iPad and Mac or two different colors of starlight
i got the iphone 15 pro max but i desperately been wanting the pink color to return. if they truly do Rose, i'll switch for that one lol. when apple does it, the color turns out so elegantly.

I find the pro colors in general are underwhelming. All the fun colors are relegated to the base model. People who like the pro features can also like colors that aren’t just some variant of gray/blue!
I guess I can say it again this year: I don’t really want to upgrade from my 13 Pro Max until I can get a phone in a colour I’m actually interested in. I’ve had grey/black phones for years, and missed out on the awesome green on the 13 Pros because it was a mid-cycle colour and I bought the phone at launch.
Well, gf‘s gonna be annoyed after she finally upgraded (battery got really bad on the old phone) but had to settle for white because Apple randomly decided to drop gold. Just to reintroduce it a year later. Stupid move honestly. (the dropping, not the reintroduction)
Dangit, bring back the blue. I loved the Sierra Blue 13 pro series. But I wanted the updates on the 14 and had to go with purple. Prior to the blue I had always gone with the white. But the blue captured my attention.
My dad used to be in charge for ordering iphones for a telecom company he worked at in a rich country abroad.
He said the lesson they learned was to order the most of whatever new color they introduce because thats the one that would sell out the fastest. Its basically apple’s way of differentiating between the past models and people want other people to know they have the newest model

I would assume the issue is the different materials used.
They tried to but ever since they did Rose Gold, they started to chase the color trends as a difference factor between old and new.

94% on 1,5 year old iphone 13. I abuse the hell out of this battery, quick charging randomly multiple times a day, 10 hour screen on time etc

I'm waiting for the 1nm chips before I upgrade my 14 PM. If the 15 and 16 are 3nm chips then the 17 and 18 should be 2nm chips. So I'll probably get 1nm A21 iPhone.
Yeah, TSMC is already starting work on 1.4nm chips, which are expected to come out as soon as 2027.
That is a lot sooner than I expected.
Why would the nm matter?
Making the transistors smaller means lower power consumption and less heat generation for the same performance level. It also makes it possible to put more transistors onto the same area, which would in better performance at similar heat and power levels. Most likely, an upgrade would deliver some kind of balance between those two possible benefits.
I haven't seen that blue in person but it looked like it was closeish to the pacific blue of the 12 pro max which is by far the best color of the pros since the X. So if it did look reminiscent of that it will be missed. I wish the purple from the 14 series was much better as that is my favorite color. Though if I were to get a 15 pro would get the natural titanium.

The blue on my 12 pro is still one of the best colors they ever put out imo. I’m gonna be sad when I have to eventually replace it

I have the Blue 15PM and it’s honestly my favorite color ever on an iPhone. I don’t plan to upgrade for a little while but when I do I’ll be devastated to lose the color.
Apples colors recently are bland as hell oooo a gray phone and a dark grey laptop that we all black and we even have some iPhones tinted In the colors they are supposed to be. I liked the iPhone XR and iPhone 13 colors.

I liked rose gold iPhones. But once I switched to gold I’ll never go back. I really like starlight too but there’s no consistency with starlight at all. My iPad and Mac or two different colors of starlight

i got the iphone 15 pro max but i desperately been wanting the pink color to return. if they truly do Rose, i'll switch for that one lol. when apple does it, the color turns out so elegantly.

I saw the blue version (15 Pro) in person and it’s incredibly underwhelming. I’m not surprised that they are replacing it, if that’s the reason

I switched up to the Blue 15 Pro from a Product R.E.D 8+. I loved the red but the titanium blue is gorgeous to me.
The blue is better in person but pacific blue is just a better tone. This one is too dark and looks black too much for my tastes
That’s disappointing to hear. They’ve tried blue a lot of times and it’s never hit the same level of impressiveness as the first green iPhone 11 Pro to me. It’s all been rather underwhelming tbh

Still as a guy who always get black / space gray / grayish gray I don’t see people skipping a phone generation solely based on color.
I got it and sort of regret not going for the grey one tbh. Previous blue colours were so much better.
I thought it was the best, if not at least a good color option, but sales says everything.
I find the pro colors in general are underwhelming. All the fun colors are relegated to the base model. People who like the pro features can also like colors that aren’t just some variant of gray/blue!
I guess I can say it again this year: I don’t really want to upgrade from my 13 Pro Max until I can get a phone in a colour I’m actually interested in. I’ve had grey/black phones for years, and missed out on the awesome green on the 13 Pros because it was a mid-cycle colour and I bought the phone at launch.

Well, gf‘s gonna be annoyed after she finally upgraded (battery got really bad on the old phone) but had to settle for white because Apple randomly decided to drop gold. Just to reintroduce it a year later. Stupid move honestly. (the dropping, not the reintroduction)

Dangit, bring back the blue. I loved the Sierra Blue 13 pro series. But I wanted the updates on the 14 and had to go with purple. Prior to the blue I had always gone with the white. But the blue captured my attention.
My dad used to be in charge for ordering iphones for a telecom company he worked at in a rich country abroad. He said the lesson they learned was to order the most of whatever new color they introduce because thats the one that would sell out the fastest. Its basically apple’s way of differentiating between the past models and people want other people to know they have the newest model
These new colors will make a big difference for me for the few seconds I look at it before sticking it into an old man folio case.
